Expected to be released in Jan 2019?
There is no "official" information from Mi yet but many sites have some specs.
It seems some sites have confused "specification" with "speculation" as their info varies a lot.
This one seems reasonable... here

Three models that seem to be the RN7 have passed certification by 3C authority in China...
M1901F7C, M1901F7E, and M1901F7T.
Most likely the 7A version, 7, and the 7Pro if they follow past tradition?

Finally announced, Snapdragon 660, 48 MP camera with a Samsung lens. Starting from $150 US (about $200AU)
Redmi also has its own brand now, brandishing the Redmi logo on the back. Xiaomi decided to keep it separate from its flagship models.
Released in China first, a global version will be avaliable in coming weeks.
Almost looks like a super budget version of a oneplus 6T,
A pro version is also expected to be released soon with Sony's imx586 sensor, possibly a faster processor and 5G if rumours are correct.

I suspect that is the Chinese version. There is no genuine "Global Version" being offered for sale as yet.
Global versions usually have more band capability. Sometimes they have other hardware differences also.
Geek Buying has the RN7 listed for sale too and they openly state it is not the Global version.
"Note
It is not installed Google Play Store, Google services, or multi-languages (only English and Chinese). Kindly note with thanks."
...it seems has no NFC/b28 and compass....
Official spec from mi.com shows that RN7 does have electronic compass.
A pro version is also expected to be released soon with Sony's imx586 sensor, possibly a faster processor and 5G if rumours are correct.
Don't think RN7P will have 5G, but certainly Sony INX586 and hopefully Snapdragon 670/675.
Not sure about the glass back and how easy it will be to crack without a case.
Also at around the $400 for the 4G64G the mi8 lite at $300 seems better value ATM and it has Band 28 as well . Prices will settle in the next month or so though. The Global version is rumored to be released just after Chinese new year.
Not sure about the glass back and how easy it will be to crack without a case.
Drop it and you'd be shattered for sure.
Give it few months for the price to settle. It should be below $300 by Easter. Can't get past the Notch on the Mi 8 lite and I'd have it's 3350 mAh battery dead by lunch time. ;)
Drop it and you'd be shattered for sure.
If they are cheap to replace maybe worth it. And how easy it will be to replace it.
Apple wants $600 to replace back glass

Considering the rear glass replacement for a Mi 8 is under $20. Looks simple to change over.
On a side note: Saw a video where they stripped down the latest iPhone. Looked amazing with all the tech squeezed inside, Interesting thing was the lightning connector was literally the last piece to be removed. Xiaomi phones are a lot more user/wallet friendly :)
Does anyone have any idea when it will launch in Australia?
Currently there are no official Xiaomi Mi Stores in Australia, so it won't get launched here in the foreseeable future. The global version of the phone will be announced in France on January 22nd. Which will have Google play store, multi language and no Chinese bloat.
Recently a Mi store opened in New Zealand but tax would be a killer getting one from there.
Alternatively the Kogan.com.au website has some Xiaomi devices. Or grey imports from the likes of aliexpress, eBay, etc
"As of September 2018, a total of 278 million Redmi series smartphones had been sold globally."
http://en.people.c
So I assume most people here will get it through Kogan or ebay?
Aliexpress, Banggood is where I buy mine from just finding a good seller there
I have the mi 8 Lite, and its one hell of a phone. But the RN7 is a real contender too. 4000 mah battery, 3.5 headphone jack....and similar glass back to the mi 8 Lite. The price of the RN7 in China is cheap, but will resellers gouge? Thats the question.
I wonder how many have bought the RN7 now not knowing they are CN versions?
The factory global version is not released yet.
Currently there are no official Xiaomi Mi Stores in Australia
Led to believe this is an official xiaomi store, they have a physical location at chatswood, sydney.
They don't have the full range of phones however, so this wouldn't be your first option for getting any latest handset like the RN7/pro or Mi8/9
Looks like Ausmalltech is changing its name to bNEXT and will be selling other products.
"From today, we begin a new journey in transitioning to an Australian Omnichannel Retailer. This means we will be actively adding high quality and exciting products from other brands besides Xiaomi such as Huawei Phones, DJI drones, OnePlus phones, Segway transportation vehicles and much more."

Yesterday, Xiaomi representatives said the company is prepared to push 1 million Redmi Note 7 units by the end of January. Today was the first flash sale of the phone and 100,000 devices were sold in just 8 minutes 36 seconds,
