tesla ios app updated to 4.24 and now it supports shortcuts and big win for siri / shortcuts users
What kind of shortcuts would be useful for Tesla’s?
Auto lane change (I have EAP – actually FSD) on roads south of Canberra is actually _worse_
This is why I haven’t bit the bullet to get EAP yet.
Tesla service indicated that they are still waiting on Telstra to recover affected vehicles for the wakeup issue.
I can connect to my M3 easily but not the MY both parked side by side in garage and connected to WiFi. Interesting.
Navigate on Autopilot turns off on every crossroad on the Hume Highway. Apart from the extra chimes, it wanted to change into the right lane before turning off, even if there were no other cars around.
My last gripe, parallel parking has previously been slow but reliable. Yesterday, the car did the worst park ever – reversing fast and ramimg the rear tyre into the curb. Not very impressive.
Gee whiz. Makes me glad I’m only using ACC and didn’t pay for the additional upgrades.
It's redundant but I've added both Teslas to the Home app in iOS. Basically you can unlock doors, open boot and frunk, turn on sentry mode and adjust climate in the Home app instead of the Tesla app. There's Homebridge/ Hoobs plugin that makes it easy.
I don't know how self driving cars will ever work if they rely on incorrect speed limits.
Yeah, our Teslas never have the right speed limit – very annoying. It's not that hard – even Google Maps/ Waze gets the speed limits during different times right. Just not Tesla.
On this part, do you leave your phone in the car while you surf? I've not yet done this (I'll be running not surfing) but my guess is we can't leave the phone in the car, or we need to actually switch it off, so we can 'lock' / 'unlock' with the keycard?
Turn off bluetooth on your phone – you can then leave it in your car.
I consistently getting the notification "Regenerative Braking is Limited" at the end of the same downhill stretch of the road
I get this when our model y is charged to 100% – usually as a green circular icon.
I now drive 2.5 hours to a workplace and back, and the autopilot slows down annoyingly when passing a right turnoff on a 110 km/hr freeway section – only in that section. Weird.
That park assist is awesome and would at least bring Tesla back to being on par with most cars which have had 360 view for many years. Hopefully it cones to USS cars.
So for all my complaining about the new park assist visuals the brilliant Birds Eye view system the others use is 100% available to Tesla
Elon just refuses to pay for the licence patent. So we could have a similar setup to others as Birds Eye uses cameras specifically
Wow, this is news to me. I had always just assumed Teslas lacked the required cameras.
My Y and 3 updated to the holiday update v2 last night. Looking forward to testing it out on a long distance drive later today.
The nags are unbearable
I drove 2 hours on a long distance trip yesterday and interestingly, the nags actually were fewer for me. The phantom slow downs at right hand turn offs at the same spots still happened. Otherwise, seems to be fewer nags (please keep your hand on the wheel) for me.
I believe for the new speed camera warning you need to have both premium connectivity and have entered your destination in the GPS. Can someone who has premium connectivity please confirm this for me.
I can confirm this is NOT true. Speed cameras showing up on Waze but not on Tesla even with gps destination in.
Thanks. Saves me resigning up to premium.
Premium still worth it for sentry mode, plus apple music/podcast etc...
Sentry mode doesn't require premium connectivity. Assuming you mean live view?
I assumed live view and sentry modes were the same – yes, live view.
I love being on the bleeding edge :)
I'm ok for being bleeding edge on my computer and phone, but not too sure for my car lol.
Now that is a system not ready for prime time.
lol I’m used to doing it manually with the teslas I’ve been conditioned to accept it compared to my previous cars.
Elon’s going all in with vision for rain detection and autopilot instead of going with tried and true moisture sensors and radar – we are all beta testers for him right now. Might as well accept that fact.
I'm going against the trend and do not believe they are doing this, and certainly not by region. I think it's just variation in weather conditions, time of day, car condition/cleanliness etc.
I think you're right too.
Also, if it rains, I don't mind manually triggering the wiping – the auto wipe seems to work fine after that. Maybe the AI needs to constantly learn as a form of machine learning as to what looks like rain and what doesn't.
2. Push the button on the end of the LH stalk and then push the LH scroll wheel LEFT to cycle IIII-III-II-I-OFF; or
TIL
I also can't put my wife in a Tesla.
My wife’s the opposite. She loves her Y. And she’s definitely not a techie. She’s gotten used to the quirks.
Certainly lane keeping is not possible without lane markings, but nothing stopping cruise control working.
I use cruise control on 60 zone, and even 40 zone, to keep to the speed limit – works fine to me.
Do you use the comfort steering setting on your Y? Have a feel if you do and see if it feels a little lighter.
My objective opinion is it became a bit more comfortable and less heavy after the update.
About to go away for the weekend and do a long drive in the Y – yes we do use comfort steering, will let you know if it's different.
Will be interesting to hear your thoughts. I found there used to be very little difference between the standard and comfort steering modes on my car, but with the update yesterday comfort feels lighter.
I have to be honest – I can’t tell the difference lol. As easy to use as before – not sure if it’s lighter. It could be. I’m just not sensitive enough to tell! Been driving all over the Mornington Peninsula today and it’s been awesome.
Interesting experience with 44.30.5.1 and wipers:
Model Y – rain didn't trigger the wipers at all – had to manually set the pace
Model 3 – worked fine
Weird.
Both cars are a bit dirty from recent rains, so maybe that's a factor.
On the other hand, autopilot on freeway was faultless considering the visibility was soo poor.
Same thing with me this morning – driving long distance through heavy rain – autopilot kept me safe I think. I had to take over to navigate past some shallow flooded areas.
Subtle changes to park assist visualization seen in recent updates (30.5.1, 30.7, 30.8) suggest behind the scene work to get similar visualization for USS vehicles, soon.
I can't wait.
Recent comments on X from one of the Tesla devs confirmed that the system is using manual wiper activations as a learning point.
I suspected so.
Can notice this – As soon as I move stalk to Reverse, wifi connectivity changes immediately to LTE. (Also LTE can go up to 100+ Mbps download and 100+ Mbps upload speeds depending on Telstra coverage of the area)
Also, the Model Y boot button makes a warning noise (similar to model 3), when closing. Not sure if it was already there in older versions.
Sweet updates. Looking forward to it. If only my phone could transition as well from home to out.
Is anyone having trouble with the Bluetooth on their phones not autoconnecting?
No. It's the best BT connectivity I've had in any car.
"Tesla will soon be activating adaptive headlight capabilities in the Model Y and legacy Model 3 in Europe. The new feature will be added through a free over-the-air software update."
I thought they already had this feature.
Car threw a tantrum on third trip this morning…first two trips no problems…..On third trip TACC refused to activate (“……..temporarily unavailable “) Max speed disappeared from screen, speed icon defaulted to 50, past multiple speed signs 70, 80, 60 nothing changed…….all way home… not seen this before….
2024.2.2.1
Time for a live reboot by pressing both buttons and hold while driving – have had to do this a couple of times.
Yeah I’ve not done a reboot before, but if it’s still cranky when I start it up again I’ll have to try the 2 button reboot…..
The two button is a soft reboot. To do a hard reboot you need to be parked, press both buttons AND the brake and hold. You can't do that while driving!
Our 2023 3 & Y both only got 2024.2.6 today – already behind
Same. Except mine were both 2024.2.3.
On 2024.2.3. My 2023 M3LR wipers seem to work really well today in the rain. Started, slowed down, sped up etc all at appropriate rain volume. Interesting.
FYI my understanding is that the auto-wipers off is a smart action so you really only need the Commander.
Can't you just disable autowiper in settings? And then configure the left hand know to adjust the wiper if you really want to?
Are you sure? I have had mine set to OFF for ages now and use TACC occasionally. The wipers haven't been switching back to AUTO again.
Same here. Hence why I asked.
1. What sort of cost is involved with the installation of a Gen 3 wall charger ? I'm assuming it is a simple 1 mtr run from the 5 pin to the wall charger. Google seems to throw up install charges of between $1000 and $7000 ( I guess the later is for if you want 3 phase added to your house).
I paid $1500 approximately to install 2 x Gen 3 wall chargers using a Tesla recommended installer.
2. I back my car into the garage and so only need about 3 mtr from the wall charger to the charge port. Given you can't change the length of the charge cable what is the best way to keep the cable tidy and yet handy ? I can't imagine leaving 4 mtrs staying tidy wrapped around the wall charger. What have others done ?
Like you we reverse both our cars into our garage, with the wall chargers in the back wall. We wrap the charge cables around the charger – no issues really. They are designed to wrap around the charger.
My 3 and Y updated to 2024.8.7 yesterday.
Had 1 dry wipe and a weird trying to turn left when I wanted to go straight on autopilot once. And autopilot stopped working when I apparently accelerated too much once too.
it will only open the boot if the camera sees you standing behind it AND it notes that your phone is also in that location.
Great idea.
A foot gesture might work via camera (can't use hands or phone if hands full with grocery bags).
This morning on the .9 firmware my M3 started to dry wipe driving the kids to school. My daughter said "stop it, it's embarrassing!" lol
The Tesla vision system does this perfectly. Looks like it's coming to USS cars in 14.5 (non Intel at least).
Can’t wait.
It's another thing that gets obscured by your left hand in the new UI.
How big are all your left hands? lol. I can still see everything. I must have tiny hands. Also I do ride with my car seat at almost highest level maybe that’s why I can see everything.
I'd rather drive with the seat and steering wheel set to optimum driving comfort
Sitting high up in a vehicle is what I’ve been doing for decades because I’m relatively short. So I’m used to it. I usually have the steering wheel low as well.
I just updated and tested Park Assist.
I like it better than standard. Resolution is not great but hopefully it improves over time.
High Fidelity park assist, ironically, is suffering from low fidelity.
lol true. I’m hoping that like the resolution and colour improvements of the side cameras that the low fidelity will improve over time with better AI and software.
the biggest limitations is that it can't see kerbs
I set up a new profile with everything the same except the left side mirror is pointed all the way down to show the wheels. I don’t use the auto fold mirrors when reversing function as that folds both mirrors and I prefer my right mirror normal when reversing but left one down.
I don’t know it’s been in development for a decade.
Good point. The advances in AI and computing have been growing exponentially though, so progress may be accelerating in the near future hopefully.
New vision park assist is great and most of the time is better than USS. It’s not perfect but very promising
Same here -we actually like it. We reverse our Teslas into our garage and it’s able to show not just things around the car but also the beam above the cars as well, which a 360 view won’t pick up. Interesting.
Well I hope they add the feature where the trunk opens only to the height of the ceiling in the multi level car park.
Y’s trunk wing? goes well above 2meters
“Open the trunk, then manually lower or raise it to the desired opening height. Press and hold the button on the underside of the trunk for three seconds until you hear a confirmation chime. Confirm that you have set it to the desired height by closing the powered trunk, then reopening it.”
LOL what is it with almost real time updates on everyone's download recently?
Sorry I thought this was Twitter/ X lol!
I have a man in my garage
And today Tesla Vision Gained X-ray vision and can see a dog next door through a brick wall
lol same here I get a weird invisible man in between our cars each time we reverse in. Also people behind walls – maybe it does have xray vision?
The last 2 charges completed took the car to 83% while still being set to 80% in the app.
That's occasionally happened with me. I wouldn't be too concerned.
I’m no longer getting phantom wipes, has the previous update fixed it for others?
I’m still getting them.
I live at number 219 but the car thinks it is 2 doors down at number 215. To make it sleep in the garage I have "home" set to 215 – sleeps like a baby
Interesting. I thought Tesla has a margin of error around where "home" is. When I'm parked on the street a few houses down, the car still thinks it's at "home" and doesn't lock or turn on sentry mode – I have to remember to do it manually.
If you tap the reverse camera button on the screen you can keep the cameras showing while driving, even while switching between drive and reverse.
Yeah I do this often. Very helpful.
Automatic tilt of side mirrors is not that great a feature for me – it would be better if it was a button you could select on the screen when reversing.
Pro tip – create a new profile that’s based on your current one. Then point the left side mirror down to the wheels. Save it and name it “reverse”. When you reverse choose that profile. Once done go back to your normal one. Done. :)
Only when I parallel park, which is the minority of the time, then I'd like the mirrors down.
I really only want my left mirror down and my right mirror normal to check for oncoming cars.
I find it's usually when there are shadows falling across the windscreen camera – so trees, truck driving by, etc.
Anyone else had a problem like this?
This has never happened to me to be honest. My charging scheduling has always worked properly. Maybe there was a software update in between or something started charging manually via the app by accident?
We see phantom figures walking around our car all the time. My mother-in-law now thinks my garage is haunted. lol.
“Dry steering” can cause greater wear on a single patch of tyre and stress your steering components.
There’s a driving game in the Tesla arcade that forces you to do this?
I'm happy with the recent improvements to the in-car sentry viewer.
Yeah, it's great. Much easier than having to muck around with the SD drive.
Telsa (actually all cars) is allowed for L drivers. But for P license holders only RWD. LR and P are too powerful so not allowed.
Great info. Thanks.
But you can NOT take the driving test in Tesla or any other var without a hand break accessible to the instructor/tester.
Is there any EV out there that does have a hand brake?
However in NSW you CAN do a driving test in a Tesla.
Hmmm... do the test in NSW and then transfer the license?
