Jinjer touring
Bah, not near me this time.
I wouldn't ordinarily listen to them, but they are excellent live. Recommended.
New nightwish album is awesome
I really should get back into them. I switched off after the first album (or maybe Imaginaerum) without Tarja did absolutely nothing for me.
I'm off to the UK next month, looks like I've timed it well for once so I can catch Anthrax, Kreator & Testament touring together
My Wind Rose Trollslayer arrived today. I accidentally ordered 2 of the same LP's somehow and no idea how it happened. Got the tankard whic is pretty fun. Haven't had a chance to listen to the album but heard good things

Not really feeling it to be honest and it feels a little un-inspired perhaps, even with the return of Mike Portnoy. Even Petrucci's solos couldn't save it for me. Let's hope this is one of the weaker songs from the album!

They've been pretty weak for a while now. I used to love Scenes from a Memory.
Watched Heavy Trip last night. Finally a good and funny heavy metal movie. The Finnish accents really help.

Yeah a bit flat – but a lot (most...) of their stuff has been for a long time now. Too much technical noodling and forgetting to add a melody or any emotion. The time signature change at 4 minutes in felt like it was done for the sake of doing it. The one at 5:30 was better because it came with a nice change to a creepy chord progression – but then spoiled with a terrible synth pad.
Solo at 8:20 was nice.
Some of the riffage in this track isn't bad and reminds me of something Jeff Waters might do – but then it probably deservces to be in a trash track instead.
And, three kick drums on Portnoy's kit? That's veering dangerously close to Spinal Tap territory if it isn't already there.
Glenn Hughes across the country in the coming week. I'm looking forward to it.
Purchased ticket over six months ago for last Saturday night .
Worth the wait.
For a vocalist of his age, Glen Hugh's put on a superb show.
Plenty of great riffs, drumming and some nice keyboard work.
Played tracks from Burn and Stormbringer and a nice Tommy Bolan tribute.
Support act The Dirty Pagans put on a great show to warm up the audience, these guys can play , and what a great performance by the lead vocalist.
Perhaps this deserves its own thread but since he should recover maybe not as Epic an Event.
Ozzy has worked with many awesome guitarists, perhaps only DLR would attain a similar level of former band mates. Jake E. Lee was one of Ozzy's guitarists who made Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin. He has been shot multiple times whilst walking his dog. Lucky many of us don't live in that effed up place! Pray Jake goes on to make a Solo out of it.

I enjoyed it a lot too. Got to the front row in my venue too :) Stormbringer was a great opener.
Perhaps the only downside – which bothered a couple of my friends more than me – was that he could have cut down a couple of songs (and that drum solo – which, although showing some pretty good skills, did go on a bit) to fit a couple of extra songs in.
Knotfest lineup has been announced. I’m gonna try & get the day off for Sydney & get tix.
Pretty happy with the lineup, Slipknot, ADTR, hatebreed, in hearts wake.
My taste in heavy isn’t probably as heavy as a lot in here lol
and that drum solo
It was way too long but I tried not to let it bother me coz the rest of the show was pretty good.
Very lacklustre
I didn’t think it was too bad. Nothing compared to what they get overseas or the old Soundwave but I think it’s only 2 stages & no clashes so I’m not complaining.
I’d have happily gone to Good Things to see Korn & Gaslight Anthem again tho.
Very lacklustre, hot on the heels of other disappointing festival line ups
Slipknot, Hatebreed (23rd anniversary of albums is a thing now?) and Within Temptation for me, the latter just for the sake of it out of needing to justify seeing more than 2 bands. I guess they're going all in on the metal/deathcore crowd these days, which would be fine, but the bands they've selected are pretty average at best.
I'm thinking a proper arena tour with 2 or 3 proper decent bands would've been a much better option
Hatebreed (23rd anniversary of albums is a thing now?)
I found that a bit different as well. I was listening to his (Jamey’s) podcast yesterday with John 5 & he was talking about their 30th anniversary in general.
Still, the last few times I’ve seen them they always put on a good show.

I’d have preferred that as well but I’m not too fussy these days. I’m a good couple of hours from Sydney so is what it is.
I’ve seen a lot of the bands but my daughter (14) has gotten into metal & wants to go to it if she can.
I was hoping Machine Head would’ve been part of it but I guess they were out here earlier this year when I missed them.

I think that's what I need to come to terms with. A (relatively) old fuddy duddy in his 40s isn't who they're trying to please anymore, this is good exposure for a good number of bands for the next gen of metalheads.

Haha, that’s me as well mate! Flip side is I might become a fan of a band I wasn’t before & potentially watch them in the future.
