the 3600 is 6/12 the 3700x is 8/16 which is what ps5/xbox has :)
Pedestrian speed 8c/12t though it'll be slower than a 3600.
2K/4K basically the same
That was previously GPU limited. Faster GPUs may widen that gap.
take advantage of as many threads as I can throw at them
More threads used by the app doesn't necessarily mean faster. More loaded threads means lower average frequency per thread. Games are normally bottlenecked by the slowest task. You make that slowest task slower when you increase the number of active threads, so what's best for each game will typically depend on the type of game and the engine. eg: A RTS or turn based strategy game can easily use a large number of threads by spinning up lots of AI threads for the units. Fast paced action games like CS:GO (all human players) and rocket league it's harder. You also need to weigh the cost of synchronisation as the number of threads increase, leading to diminishing returns and higher latency.
Also remember that overnight the consoles move to 16 threads come launch
Xbox will have 8 threads at a faster speed or 16 threads at a lower speed, basically for the reasons stated above. Also wouldn't be surprised if they reserve cores for the OS. I think you'll see a split of games optimised for 6-8 cores and 8+ cores.

That is very true.. Already seeing 100+ FPS at 4K using DLSS Quality. We may be hitting 150-160 in the next generation of cards with PS4 Pro era titles meaning CPU limitations will become apparent again.

3090 x2 performance vs 2080ti in Control/Minecraft RTX 4k/DLSS
3090 x1.8 performance vs 2080ti in Wofenstein YB 4k/DLSS
Given they are RTX titles, that is unsurprising. We won't be seeing those gains in titles without RTX.

Might be fake
Maybe, but what's highlighted in those zooms is standard DCT artifacts from JPEG compression. Doesn't look like anything unusual.
A little over 18 hours to go. Just a reminder of where you all can find the livestream:

Looking forward to posting my thoughts tonight throughout the event!
Does anyone know if we in Australia will be able to place orders this evening?
Or is it a NA / Europe thing?

Yeah we will be able to over at https://www.nvidia.com/en-au/shop/
Nvidia launched an Aus shop a few years back and should open up preorders by the end of their presentation as they did last time for the 20 series.
Good luck!
Well, we'll find out late tonight if what Nvidia has put into Ampere's gaming offerings is enough to satisfy people. After sitting on a 1080Ti for this long, I'm looking squarely at the 3080 and 3090 levels of potential performance.

Kopite7Kimi on twitter, a leaker with about a pretty high accuracy rate, has simply stated in a tweet:

Big Navi will be very strong. GA104 (3070 & below) cannot beat Big Navi. GA102 will pay a huge price. Wait for November.

Kind of implies that Big Navi (top end) will compete with 3080. But 3090 will still likely be king. But given the price rumours for the 3090 the 3070 and 3080 seem like the sweet selling point for most. If AMD can level that with competitive prices nVidia may have some decent competition to face.

Indeed, it all lines up. Additionally, if Big Navi does in fact beat the 3080 but not the 3090 then we'll probably see that 3080S/Ti card Nvidia probably has up its sleeve.
I personally will wait for AMD to reveal Big Navi before buying. If I do decide to go Nvidia again, it'll give the new cards a couple of months to weed-out any first-run/early-adopters issues (and to get better quality silicon) and time for them to adjust pricing relative to what AMD has.
With spending (potentially) as much as we might be on this level of GPU, I'm happy to wait a bit longer to make a smarter purchase decision. Nvidia is also supposed to have a radically redesigned software stack & control panel for the new GPUs as well, and with how many features the new cards will have that's important to consider as well.
Seems like even if you are likely to go with NVIDIA it's probably better to wait for AMD cards to hit.
I am looking at a 3070 but if I can get 3080 performance from AMD at the same price it's going to be a tough decision.

It will happen.
I am more interested that in the new xbox with the 200watt power input they have a full console at 2080 super levels using 200watt meaning Navi is fairly good with power – but that topic isnt for this thread :) :P

Indeed. I suspect at this point things like VRAM and the overall software stack offered by each brand will determine the purchasing decision. Nvidia have a lot of very nice features on their cards, but AMD has apparently also been working on a similar-level of features debuting with Big Navi.
We also just got microcode in BIOS updates for 500 series AM4 boards that contains Ryzen 4000 support, so once this Nvidia event is over it's probably going to be full steam ahead for AMD's side of things.

Yeah i'm quite excited to see what AMD delivers on the Zen 3 side of things and from what I can see it might be coming sooner rather than later (hopefully around October from what i've been hearing). Glad that AMD is getting stronger in competing in both markets, competition really works out for everyone at the end of the day. I'm keen to find out how well they do with big navi and hope they end up giving Nvidia a bit of a run for their money even though i've already made up my mind to go with the 3090 this go round.

Nvidia CEO usually announce the date and prices on when to order Ampere GPU's at the event. PCCG are very good at getting their order early.
Hmmm aud to usd is tipped to hit 80cents soon too.
Good chance we might see the RTX 3090 @2k after 6mth once availability stocks and competition kicks in.
