even make sense of it anymore.
If your 'hardware hobby' centers around a gaming rig, sure. Never been better to be getting into server hardware and building your own NAS, learning how to run and administer servers using stuff like swarm/kubernetes/ansible, and what have you. Harddrive prices have dropped a lot, so having 100TB+ storage is achievable on a variety of budgets. Plenty of networking options out there for you to set up 10GB+ networking on your LAN. That's where I focus my time and money, that's what excites me when it comes to hardware. It can be as cheap or expensive, as simple or complex as you make it.
However, saying that, there is a whole community of enthusiasts who take joy in benchmarking their systems and competing against others. There was a guy in here who was taking joy beating Jayztwocents in the rankings – it brings them joy, so I would say it makes sense for them and their needs, still. But again, there needs to be a differentiation between this and gaming. Nvidia pricing their high-end cards at this or that price point is not going to kill PC gaming, the sky isn't falling, PC gaming is fine.
PLE has Zotec 5090 OC for 6600 now in stock
$6600.. I wonder if anyone was able to secure the same card for $4389 at PCCG? Or whether PCCG never received any stock for it.
People take it to the extreme for little reason. Most gamers are 1080p and 1440p – 4k gamers are a tiny minority. Plenty of cards that can handle any game at playable settings for great value.
For decent VR, there is no consumer level card powerful enough to run the best headsets properly. Even the recently released Meganex Superlight is 8k micro-OLED but only has a small FOV. Heck, even the 4090 struggles with something as basic as the Quest 3 in PCVR.
That is where my mind is at when it comes to GPUs. Sure, if all I wanted to do was play flat-screen, I wouldn't bother with the mid or top end GPUs.
For decent VR
VR is its own kettle of fish, for sure. But you kind of contradicted yourself – decent VR? or best headsets? which is it? Are you saying that anything but the best headsets is not decent VR? Anyway, you would know much more than me in that area, last time I touched VR was Oculus Rift DK2 (development kit 2) back in 2014, and I was pairing it with a 2500k and a 7970GHZ.
Couple of 5070ti’s at umart.
Stock is trickling in. AMD is about to flood the market with cards. My bet is on stock leavels being back to normal by end of April.
Surely the 4080s will run almost every game at 1440p/4k for years to come?
It’s when those years run out. If current trends continue I can’t see myself justifying a new build to play games when a sub $1000 console will do.
Frankly computing is getting crazy pricy especially if you are looking at the cutting edge.
Don’t worry will be using what I have for a long time… upgraded from a 1070.

I'll always need a gaming PC of some sort of quality, even if it goes down in specs as time goes on. Consoles just don't allow the same type of freedom in so many different ways. I can be without a console but not a gaming PC.
I can't help but think that they're a bunch of (the one Redditor who suggested this idea) dreamers over on r/nvidia, thinking that Nvidia would bring out a driver that would detect cards that had the ROPS issue and then inform the consumer that their card has the issue and should be RMA'd.
5070 ti ( which is a 5060 ti/5070 under the hood based on architecture ) for $1999 ? I'd rather become a console player

If you're anything like the rest of us, then you can just spend the next 20 years getting through your backlog.
Or spend the next 10+ years slowly picking up bangers for less than the cost of lunch if you're a patient gamer.

Yeah same here, I don't mind having a console but I could easily do without one. Still have a PS5 and Series X but haven't even used them in years, only use the PS5 occasionally for exclusives but I couldn't imagine being without a PC and constrained to the console eco-system.
But you kind of contradicted yourself – decent VR? or best headsets? which is it?
Not at all. The two are not the same thing. IMO, you need a top end headset for a decent VR experience and even then you are compromising on one of either comfort, visuals or FOV.
But, as a race sim and flight sim junkie, VR is the next frontier. Just a shame that it's all so bloody expensive.

That's crazy, around 3x base model 5080's. In the past I would have said buy a 5080 and save the $$ for the next gen, but the way things are going the RTX 6080 may end up $6600 and only 15% faster than a 5080, so maybe that price is a bargain !

The 50 series laptop preorders are live and the pricing is just as bad with less.
Even if you account for discounts the prices are still higher than equivalent discounts with the 40 series. Lenovo typically do up to 40% Asus 30%
Asus G14 5070 Ti $5000 5080 $5900.
Lenovo Legion Pro 5070 Ti $5000 5080 $6000.

Lol it sold out within an hour. But it was the longest time I've seen. Usually they sell out in 5 – 10 minutes. Maybe because it was a base model which RRP should be 4k.
The price won't stay this high, it's just a demand thing. Eventually the prices will fall back down. You just need to wait like 3-6 months.
Is there any info on when Blackwell will start ramping up production and start hitting shelves in sufficient quantities?
Indications are anywhere from late March to the middle of the year. Some factories in China are still closed for the month or on a skeleton workforce, so it's going to take a couple of months at least for production to start ramping out supply. This is about the same amount of time between when Blackwell GPUs were being produced and when reviewers received them, so 2-3 months seems pretty reasonable to expect.
There's a leaker saying RTX 5090 stock availability will "explode" next month... we'll see.
Thanks to this debacle, AMD now have zero incentive to sharply price their upcoming release.
AMD has plenty of incentive, it just comes down to how much they value Radeon as a division. Are they going to actually chase midrange marketshare or are they going to do the classic Nvidia minus $50? I think RDNA4 launch pricing will be quite telling.
Initial:
Cheers.
What's the situation atm with stock?
Looks around there's none bud.

Here here!
Heck, even the 4090 struggles with something as basic as the Quest 3 in PCVR.
Depends on what you define as decent VR. For me there's nothing quite like Elite Dangerous in VR, and from what I've seen a 4090 manages that just fine. My 7900 XTX does as well, I just can't have everything on Ultra. There's different games and variables of course.
Stock is trickling in.
Or nobody is buying them (I know I know, outlandish thing to say at the moment).

It do be like that.
More stock if you got money to burn ;)

Unless it's old news, Scorptec listing all 5090's as $6999 wtf?
