Holy smokes what a deal, Jebus! Congrats and enjoy man! Gotta be the holy grail of prebuilts in terms of value/stonking performance.
Cheers. Think I did the right thing.
For all the complaints about the 5080 – and I get the generational improvement is disappointing – if you are looking at getting a whole new system from pretty much scratch, you are still better off buying a 5080 than a 4080 super or a 7900xtx for that level of performance.
So it's not that it's a bad card (fingers crossed), it just didn't make the generational leap many were hoping for (myself included).
Found this from Civil-Breath-3155 on Reddit who tracked everyones orders on the subreddit which may come in handy for an indication of where they are in the queue across multiple retailers:
Also might not a bad idea to put your name on the list so we can get a better idea of where everything is at.
That's interesting. There's a guy who has an almost identical order to me except he was 2 minutes later and his ETA is 3 weeks longer than what I was told.
One tidbit irrelevant to the actual info, is that Scorptec's first order number is 5700 at 00:51. Their next is 6017 about a half hour later. Over 300 orders in a half hour, taking 11 new orders per minute.

Yeah that is interesting, from what I heard they just had a ton of orders rolling in and for whatever reason didn't anticipate that level of demand.
The guy with the Astral from Scorptec at the top of the list was told by Scorptec that he was the first person in the queue to purchase it which helps establish a baseline. It's now been updated to dispatched status so he will probably get it in a couple days time.
Let's just hope they start rolling in for the rest of us, despite Scorptec now not being able to give me a definite date they did say they may come in later or even earlier then the inital 19th Feb date they provided me, they just don't know 100% yet.
Update from Computer Reliance regarding the current state of orders (not looking good):
ComputerAlliance Sales cs To Re: Computer Alliance Order Processed
We don't have reliable information from 7:57 PM manufacturers concerning 5090 eta in volume. No retailer does. From additional information today, I suspect most existing orders won't be covered for months. Some will be. We will receive a significant number of 5090s within a week that we know are in transit, but that's just a drop in the ocean relative to total orders we have for 5090s (we have covered 80% of the 5080 orders already).
There are larger numbers we have been promised/allocated but eta uncertain and they won't cover all backorders. I gather at least one competitor has started cancelling their orders given the uncertainty and pain related to managing many orders with uncertain etas, and others will likely follow.
Retailers are making next to no margin on these, so if the wholesale price increases even a few %, that's a big problem for us. We are not blocking new orders or cancelling orders yet but I did add a note to all SKUs today making it as clear as possible that the likely wait will stretch into months and to discourage new backorders for anyone who does not understand its a long wait.
Any reviews on the 5080 MSI Inspire yet?
I paid for one seconds after launch with PLE when it was available to order with delivery date as "TBA". It was never in stock so I went for it knowing I'd likely not be fighting with others and I just need to wait for the first batch to arrive. PLE confirmed I was second to make the purchase and that stock is due mid to late Feb. They said stock would be very limited and they didn't seem too confident I'd even get my order in their first allocation. So they were ok to promise Feb but indicated they're expecting a single card to maybe come into them in their initial order for this SKU – which I think is crazy. I assume the AIB/distrubtor would have x amount a carton for shipping efficiencies. If PLE are correct it shows how wildly limited stock is.
I saw a video of from a European who got their inspire from Amazon. He indicated it was exclusive to Amazon in his region (I can't recall which country sorry). Outside of this one YouTube account I haven't found any content whatsoever, and I'm keen to find out how it runs as I'm eagerly waiting for my card.
I'm wanting it for my SFF case and currently running a 1070. I was umming and arring for ages about a 4080 super pro art but could never justify the price. Ironically, I've now accepted a 5080 for more money...
Update from Computer
thanks for sharing. Indeed its not looking good.
Mwave said yesterday they will be sending an email TODAY to all pre-orders so lets see what they say and whether they decide to do cancellations of pre-orders and refunds.
Its also kinda mindblowing to read that retailers make little money on these cards that are +$4K.
Also might not a bad idea to put your name on the list so we can get a better idea of where everything is at.
from that it looks like 10 people ahead of me ordering on Mwave the 5090 Suprim SOC despite ordering at 1:15am. And thats only few ppl that have contributed information for the spreadsheet, there could be another 50.
is that Scorptec's first order number is 5700 at 00:51
I ordered a 5080 at 00:51 and my number is 56xx.
My card was installed in my computer at lunchtime yesterday

I'm not surprised. It's always been small profits. That's why you get company's like msy (the old msy) refusing returns and being shady. And why no store wants to refund gpu's without getting confirmation from the supplier that they'll cover the refund/replacement. It leads to pretty shady unscrupulous tactics but what can you do. It's not the stores fault.

Not really. These are zero effort sales.

Not just the retailers but also the AIB margins. It leads to this weird situation we have where an ultra premium and expensive gpu is surrounded by cheap craptacular plastic and retailers dont really care if they sell them or giving the customer a good experience after buying.

I accept that these cards essentially sell themselves, but as we have seen for the last couple of launches there is a level of reputational risk when retailers are unable to keep up with the demand.
Scorptec certainly took some ire over their move to cancel the backlog, but it is looking increasingly likely that other retailors are moving closer to a similar outcome both here and abroad.
Unfortunately I cannot access the google docs from work My order was pretty early 31-01-2025, 00:49 was my timestamp for a Ventus 5080 OC Plus and it has shipped. I can't access my order number from work. But I will update it all when I get home.

Core components are 2-5% gross margin. The only real profit is on peripherals and consumables. Buying the right bundle deals from suppliers is how you squeeze more margin out. It's a tough business, race to the bottom on pricing and service. Build fees are decent margin as well. Complete builds also use cheaper parts sometimes to squeeze out more margin from full system purchases.
Retailers will be cancelling day 1 orders most of them anyway with the next set of stock coming being priced higher.
Cant fault them as they are being charged more themselves.
5090FE cards are also affected.
If i remember correctly Paul's Hardware was also having this issue, he tried various things like changing the PCI 5.0 to 4.0/etc, but his card simply was not functioning properly, that's why he never did a 5090 review
Retailers will be cancelling day 1 orders
All of the retailers knew there is bugger all stock. Why take so many preorders? Just stupid.
Unless they wanted the cash for few weeks to make some interest while holding it. Eg 200 x 5090 cards wouls be close to $1M. At 5% interest thats $4k of interest per month. Worth it? I dont know, depends how much they collected. Could be $5M in which case it gets interesting.
