So $2299 USD is 3,698 AUD plus local rip off tax and we have minimum $3,999,- launch price for base model, OC models will be closer to $4,500 likely.
I got $4069 for conversion + GST, which is a price we never pay at launch, probably $500 Australia tax, so maybe starting from $4650

So you saying that AUD$5,090 is a chance for some AIB 5090 RTXs then.... Pretty shocking if true.

I didnt add gst as the quoted price had their own 13% tax included so if you add gst you are doubling up tax.
PC gaming entering a dark age
Not all pc gamers buy top end hardware, quite the opposite. 5090 and 5080 are enthusiast grade/level. According to chatgpt and grok, less than 1% of PC gamers have rtx 4090.
Its talked a lot about but very few buy it.

my mistake, $4500 for base model huh, I wonder if they changed things this generation so that when you buy base model you really are buying a lesser product, which except for some rare examples wasn't the case with 40 series as far as performance,
If these kind of prices eventuate, I see PC gaming entering a dark age quite soon (perhaps 2026).
I'm thinking the same thing. But I went and checked a few figures and the GTX 690 was $1000 USD back on 2012 on release. Titan rtx was $2500 USD on release in 2018.

It's really the xx80/super class that's the problem imo. Sure have a halo product that they release for enthusiasts that can write a blank cheque for a GPU but have something gamers realistically want and are happy with the performance. It's like NVIDIA have the AI market locked down and they don't give a stuff about gamers anymore (if they ever did). Now they can just say buy it or don't. We don't care.

Nah. These sorts of prices are only on the highest-end of the GPUs that people can buy, and the Steam hardware survey (as Bait pointed out above) still shows that just 1% of surveyed systems have a 4090 in them. Even if you account for some systems that don't get surveyed or people that opt out, that's at most likely to only go up another 1-2% or so. The overwhelming majority of people are still only at most buying up to the x70 class, so as long as those GPUs don't get squeezed as hard as us 1%ers like to complain we will be, things will containue as normal.
The current x70 class offering, the 4070, outperforms all current-gen consoles and has almost the same amount of usable VRAM for games (12GB), so as long as the 5070 continues the trend of offering more performance than the PS6/etc. will, nothing will change.
4060 & lower cards massively outsell all the 70 & higher class cards even if you combine 70/80/90 cards from multiple generations. Enthusiasts talk about how 4070's are 'mid-range', but really they're the low end of the premium cards in terms of the market.
Half the people in the steam survey are on 6 core CPUs, using 1080p monitors with 16gb ram playing on 4gb, 6gb or 8gb VRAM GPU's. In the top 11 GPU's, the only high end card is the 3070 and that's still only 2.4% of the survey.

The overwhelming majority of GAMERS. I think we can be fairly sure that a lot of sold 4090's have never seen a game, let alone a Steam survey.
This will be even more so with the 5090.

Initially yes, but eventually they trickle down to gamers and hobbyists. All those mining cards from 2021/2022 ended up in those massive Asian tech malls and I imagine the same will happen with these AI cards when they're sold in bulk by data centres looking to upgrade.

The world economy is set for a shake up/recession/depression, and spending 2-5k on one component won’t be palatable – or possible, for an increasing proportion of enthusiasts.
Honestly, you need a snap-back to reality. People spending 1k-2k on gpus aren't the ones defining the industry, the millions who get by with 3060s/4060s and gaming consoles are.
or people that opt out
They don't opt out, they like to let everyone know they have a 4090.
The prices of the 5090 may even get bumped up if Trump enacts hits tariffs. Even though it had nothing to do with its it's an easy target item for price gouging.
They don't opt out, they like to let everyone know they have a 4090.
So would I lol.

If momomo is to be believed, this would mean there'd be PRIME, TUF, ASTRAL and the already leaked STRIX SKUs of the 5080. If they have OC variants, that's potentially 8 different 4080 SKUs alone.
Wonder if ASUS is targeting 8 different price points lol.
Wonder if ASUS is targeting 8 different price points lol.
ASUS averaged 9 SKU's per type of card in the 40 and 30 series, so you might be slightly low on your estimate. Especially if they copy what they did with the 3070 where they ended up with ~20 SKUs.
PRIME, TUF, ASTRAL and the already leaked STRIX
Give each SKU another "OC" sku and 5080's might end up being in the long run:
- ROG Strix OC
- ROG Strix
- ROG Astral OC (White)
- ROG Astral (White)
- ProArt OC

- TUF OC
- TUF OC
- Prime
- Prime OC
- Dual
- Noctua Collab
- Noctua Collab OC

- Turbo Blower Style
- Waterblocked
- Korean Origin

Many other websites now reporting $2600us for 5090 and $1500us for 5080 . Will be interesting the backlash this will unleash

Every time a new "leak" appears, every website just parrots the same thing.
I highly doubt either price is correct. Although, maybe with the tarriffs, they will be once implemented?
One thing is for sure, the coming month(s) when they announce pricing, there will be some intense discussions in this thread lol.
US$2000 seemed too low to me as why Ive always assumed itd be a minimum.
Recent talks of US$2600 seem too high but somewhat believable for at least a high end variant, given that Nvidia is throwing in an additional 8GB VRAM, they have zero competition, this also doubles as a professional card, and Nvidia is..... Nvidia.
