I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2016 and was taking Somac at the time as I frequently get heartburn and the drug did help. My Nephrologist at the hospital took me off Somac as it could hurt my kidneys and had to to take Ranitidine ( Zantac ) in its place until it were removed from pharmacy shelves everywhere due to a compound within it that can cause cancer. I am now back on Somac, but one the lowest dose as my kidney doctor still has concerns with me taking it. My lowest eGFR has been 28, but is back to 35 at the moment.
