I've 65 C835, and when I increase/lower volume all I get is + or – sign appearing for a second highlighting my action. There is no current level indicator or anything. Also there is a rather large jump in a volume for one particular step, which is annoying.
On my C835 55" I get this when I'm outputting sound via my Sonos Beam, when I switch to TV speakers or wires headphones mode I get a proper volume level display going up from 0-100
Not only this, as he wrong compare Factory reset and ResetAll and Reset shop, in which apps remain, instead of Factory reset wiped.
Btw,
as I remember is already many times posted.....
How was I wrong about this? In my original post I said if you follow my instructions and do reset all and then reset shop it wipes everything and you need to set up the TV from new again. Was this wrong? Because this is what happened to me.
Unfortunately Red forgot a critical step. You need to go to Settings>Picture>Advanced Settings>Brightness Settings>Contrast (Highlight only), then key the number. Not all TVs are the same. The process for most TCL models is explained on this page. https://factory-reset.com/wiki/TCL_Service_Menu
Sorry about this but I thought it was different for everyone because for me I couldn't get the virtual keypad to appear by going to the contrast setting. Strangely the keyboard would only appear when I was in the Kodi app but not sure why. That's why I didn't mention the contrast part of the instructions.

You all are absolutely right, it was due to the TV sending sound through my Bose soundbar. I wasn't even thinking about it, as my previous TV worked the same way no matter what channel the sound was sent through.

Like me.
Curious are you using 55" / 65" / other? I'm using the 65c835 getting the same result.
Likewise when posters refer to firmware updates, mentioning them is useless if you also don't specify your TV model!

I have the C835 55 inch. As I said the virtual keyboard only appeared when I was in the Kodi app. Maybe try the same. If you don't have Kodi maybe see if it works when you're inside any other app?
This is odd. My 85C735 brings up the virtual keyboard anytime I press the button on the remote. And I’ve tested that the service menu can be called by the standard method, ie, highlight the Contrast line in the advanced Brightness menu, calling the virtual keyboard and selecting 6, 4, 2, 5. Those numbers do vary with some models and other numbers can call other hidden menus.
I’d still like to know the difference between Reset All and Reset Shop. Anyone?
I’d rather not try them since my TV is running just fine and don’t have enough time to be reinstalling and setting up my apps again without a reason.
My 85C735
You have a different model to us buddy, hence why I said it may be different for some.
As for the difference between the two resets, best you wait for the expert Stas to reply, but all I know is if you do both consecutively as I mentioned in my original comment, it wiped everything on my TV and I had to set it up again from the start including re-installing all apps. That was my experience but if the expert disagrees then he would know more than I do.
see if it works when you're inside any other app?
It does (for Netflix, Electronic Program Guide), others don't. The user manual (C735/C835/C935 SERIES) only specifies to use it when:
- Accessing Channels
- Using Subtitles
- Using PVR
- Using EPG
I'm surprised that @jp8851 can use it anytime ...

I'm fairly sure that when my C835 was on version 469 firmware I too could access the keyboard anytime just by pressing the virtual keyboard button. I'm now on version 474 firmware and the button only worked when I was inside the Kodi app like I mentioned.
Odd one for me, been on 473 and all has been good but today suddenly Xbox has reverted back to HDR10 from Dolby Vision on the games that support DV
Games Master now greyed out too

Maybe that's why they pushed version 474 so quickly after 473. To iron out certain bugs.

Yeah I might try to update to 474 and see what happens before trying a reset
Just seems weird it has worked fine since I updated and suddenly it's stopped working

That is strange. I don't game otherwise I would test it for you on 474.
All fixed for now, I stopped gamebar app. cleared cache. etc then rebooted TV and Xbox and back in business
Will monitor over next few days

V473 is still on TCL server.
V474 is replacement of V469 and not fix of V473

This doesn't really make sense to me. Small incremental updates are always a replacement to previous one. So 474 is an update for 473. There's 7 revisions between those two versions.
If you're saying 474 won't be rolled out to TVs which were updated to 473 it makes more sense though.. but that's a bad thing. No security updates between original 55C835 (469) and latest but it's been revised a lot.

I've updated manually to 473 and then 474 so thankfully we have you and the telegram links.

Yes, this I mean.

@Stasiof, can you please answer my question above? Does one of these leave installed apps and settings in place? And if so, which one. Early on I did a full reset via settings>system>reset. But that was like a complete clean install. I’d rather not have to reinstall everything if possible next time I might feel a reset is required.
