OK, so when I try the Paramount + App (which I recently subscribed), to on our 75C835, it only ever outputs stereo via the TOSLINK optical out. However all other Streaming Apps like Netflix, Disney, Apple TV, Amazon Prime etc do output DD5.1 via the TOSLINK optical out on the 75C835

The Receiver I'm using doesn't have eARC/ARC, so S/PDIF via TOSLINK optical out this the best I can do.

I believe S/PDIF supports the following:

Lossless 2.0 (stereo) PCM audio
Compressed Dolby Digital 2.0/5.1 and Dolby Digital EX
Compressed DTS Digital Surround, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1

I checked the Paramount Site for "Can I get surround sound when watching Paramount+?: here:

https://help.paramountplus.com/s/article/PD-Can-I-get-surround-sound-when-watching-paramount

Which is what it says:

Can I get surround sound when watching Paramount+?

Yes! Surround sound is available on select shows for these supported devices:

Apple TV HD and 4k
Roku devices and Roku TV
Android TV
Fire TV

Note: Supported devices must be connected via HDMI to a receiver capable of decoding Dolby Audio.

So it is because I'm not using eARC/ARC via HDMI to send sound to Receiver that I can only get Stereo sound?

Thanks!

I am using s/pdif from my 2010 Panasonic plasma TV to my Yamaha HTR 3067 with no problems. The Roku, PVR and DVD connect via hdmi to the receiver and again all works as it should. TV avi output decodes as Dolby Pro Logic

I just played a movie on Paramount Plus on my Sony Android TV and when I looked at the audio options of the stream, I could choose between Dolby Digital Plus and Stereo. I'd say that is why you're only getting stereo from the toslink as it can't do DD+.

You can certainly spend money ($50-$100) on a device that will solve this issue, but I wouldn't do it just for Paramount Plus.

What model AVR do you have?

OK, thank you for your reply sdrambo. I don't have any 5.1 sound issues except for the installed in our TCL 75C835. Free to Air Channels and other Streaming Apps work fine. it is just the Paramount + App that will only output Stereo.

I suspected as much. But thought I let someone else confirm, my thoughts. But I wasn't completely sure because Dolby say:

Is Dolby Digital Plus content backward-compatible?

Because Dolby Digital Plus is built on core Dolby Digital technologies, content that is encoded with Dolby Digital Plus is fully compatible with the millions of existing home theaters and playback systems worldwide equipped for Dolby Digital playback. Dolby Digital Plus soundtracks are easily converted
to a 640 kbps Dolby Digital signal without decoding and reencoding, for output via S/PDIF. The 640 kbps bit rate, which is higher than the standard 448 kbps used on DVDs, is fully compatible with all existing Dolby Digital decoding products such as A/V receivers, and can provide higher-than-DVD quality from Dolby Digital Plus soundtracks when played back through existing systems.

Yes I guess I could try and find an eARC/ARC Audio extractor that I could connect the the TCL eARC/ARC HDMI 4 input I guess.

What model AVR do you have?

It is an old Sony STR-DA7100ES that was given to me and which is excellent for everything. This is in our Family Room not our Home Cinema Room.

Chances are that the problem is in the app itself. I believe you can play Paramount+ stuff from the Prime Video app – maybe that will work properly.

This seems like a really good option. especially with the current "prime day" promotion which makes Paramount Plus $4.49/month for 3 month (need to subscribe by 12 July, but don't have to keep it for the full 3 months).

OK, But only if I have Paramount+ via Prime and I would have to stop my subscription directly with Paramount+ and I would lose some things doing that from what I understand. So not really an option as a monthly sub costs more than a yearly sub.

I only get the Stereo option. No DD+ shown.

Just have to watch on Apple TV connected to Yamaha RX-A3080 in our Home Cinema Room I guess.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

So just to try and confirm Mike S thoughts. Can anyone who has a TCL 2022 TV such as the 75C835 or say 65C735, see if you have more than just the "Stereo PCM" listed under the audio section in the Paramount+ app that should/does have DD+.

Open the Paramount+ app. Select a title you wish to watch. Select the speech bubble icon in the top right corner of your screen. Once the pop-up window opens, select the audio you want under the Audio section.

I get that the Paramount+ app might query the audio hardware in/or connected to the TCL TV and set audio option accordingly. But I'm just trying to see if anyone is able to stream with DD or DD+ audio. Or does everyone just get the "Stereo PCM"

Dolby Digital state that Dolby Digital Plus content backward-compatible and "Dolby Digital Plus soundtracks are easily converted to a 640 kbps Dolby Digital signal without decoding and reencoding, for output via S/PDIF. Anyway, I would appreciate someone confirming they get DD or DD+ as an audio option within the Paramount+ app on a TCL 2022 TV such as the 75C835 or say 65C735.

I think I will try and setup a trial Paramount+ Sub via Amazon Prime to see if DD/DD+ is available from within the Amazon Prime Video App for Paramount+ content.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone figure out how to set up picture in picture on TLC 835 google TV?

Have been googling, can't seem to find an answer, would be handy with so much big sports on now.

AFAIK there is no PIP, only something called Multi-Visual or Multi-View, which only lets you cast stuff from your phone while having something else on the TV in another window. It seems pretty limited, and seems to not work in certain circumstances. Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu-mjIdsy4I (if you can stand the horrible computer generated voice).

Thanks Mike, I was very surprised I couldn't find anything, I thought there might have been a workaround somehow.

only something called Multi-Visual or Multi-View,

Yes I tried to configure this but couldn't get it working.

Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu-mjIdsy4I

I was googling and searching YouTube and I should have searched TCL multi-view.

When I tried to configure multi-view, whenever I cast to TV from the multi-view screen, whatever I was casting from the phone would take over the whole screen in single mode, looking at that vid, maybe I should have just cast phone first before selecting what I actually wanted to cast, perhaps that was my mistake, I'll test this out another day.

Question, doesn't this TV have built in Chromecast, and doesn't Chromecast do PIP now? I saw reports it was coming or was now available for Google TV, but no instructions on how to actually do PIP.

Yes the TV will do Chromecast, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that PIP will only be supported in Android 13+. I wouldn't hold your breath for TCL to upgrade the firmware for their current TVs to Android 13 though.

Android 13 will not be available for TV......
Google confirmed that it is "retiring" Android 13 for Android TV, moving straight to Android 14...

Just wondering if someone could do me a favour and measure gap between the thicker lower and thinner upper of a C835,ie how much extra space from the wall is there up the top portion .

Are you asking how?

I mean you just go to the play store and install any Google tv browser you want.

Just curious, I don't use Web browsers but a look over the tcl browser I thought would be ok, and I thought I saw it had a built in ad blocker, is it not very good?

was asking for my brother (I have my pc hooked up to my c835 so i dont use the tv functions at all) as he said he tried using the in-built browser and had lots of issues...

So my brother can just open up the google app store on the tv and install a different browser? didn't know it had the play store xD
