Just tried to change a flight. Cost wise it wasn't worth it so will book a new one.
The interesting thing is that when I located to booking on the website (purchases) the various click through options for cancel/manage etc were dead. Tried it on the app via the phone and the click throughs worked.
PS I also tried cancelling the flight but the BOT told me not possible as they haven't cancelled the flight nor is it delayed. You might think they'd like to sell the seat again and give me say 10% back for my trouble but.. we both lose. Strange model

There is no assurance that they can sell the seat especially on a flight that isn't going to be full in the first place. Keep in mind airlines don't have a 100% load factor for an entire year. If they gave you a refund for cancelling, say your 10%, all they will be assured of is they've just loss that 10% money in revenue.
the ticket now entitled me entry too the Plaza premium lounge.
oh wow! that's great...they used to have a lounge in KL but it closed when COVID hit and never opened so this is a nice change...
I think that the AA website is having a wobble.
I found that the AA site works (flights fully populated) on browsers other than Chrome & also on Chrome incognito mode. Maybe Chrome browser extensions are causing a problem.
However, on all browsers & the app, Value Pack isn't functioning properly. For example, when I selected a $423 flight & added a $118 Value Pack (20 kg checked luggage, 2 x standard seat selections, 1 meal), the price increased to $596. It should only be $541. If I uncheck the Value Pack option, the price became $476. It was then necessary to return to previous page and separately add luggage, seat selections & meal.
Pre pandemic, it was a straight forward process booking flights with AA. Now, AA is one of the worst airline booking sites. Pre pandemic, there were various payment options and it was possible to purchase flights with zero convenience fees. The convenience fee for my upcoming OOL-DMK flight is $18.
I found that the AA site on my PC does not work (flights not populated) on the Edge browser.
However, the AA App works (flights fully populated) on my Android phone using the Chrome browser.
AA is trying to claw itself back to profitability by higher fees for checked in luggage and using a credit card, as well as surge pricing on fares and luggage.

Isn't that what a normal business would do anyway? I am not sure what else you would expect from AA. At the end of the day, you as a consumer have a choice – you can chose to fly with them and pay whatever they charge or look at alternatives. I am done a comparison and I am happy with the option of flying with them and will pay whatever price I am happy with (and this is even after the price dropping the next day when their sale bloody started – lol)...and now with the inclusion of the lounge access for their Premium Cabin, I am pleased with my decision to chose to fly with them. I do wish they would offer the option Scoot has with being able to pay extra to change the flights but hey, it just means getting my travel insurance sorted as soon s I purchase the tickets with them.
Air Asia now offering pre-booked ex-airport transfers on their booking app in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Phillipines. Bookings can be made 6 months in advance with choice of various sized cars.
Have not looked at their price. Fare is pre-paid but cancellable up to 24 hours prior.
Not for all but useful if the price is competitive.
On a related note I recently got a Grab from Surabaya airport. Great experience with clearly marked Grab pick up area plus Grab attendants who even gave me a free 10% off discount code
I'm planning an upcoming trip & need some advice.
Looking at taking an Air Asia flight from Lombok to Kuala Lumpur. Leaves LOP 1825 & gets into KUL 2130 $63
Then will take Malaysian/Turkish codeshare flight from Kuala Lumpur to Istanbul. Leaves KUL 2305 & gets into IST 0450.
I won't have check in luggage and will only have a carry on backpack.
I've noticed airlines themselves have 60 minute connecting flights so wondering if 95 minutes is adequate time for me to make the connection?
There are other LOP-KUL flights but they're not direct which will mean I'll need to leave earlier in the day and arrive KUL earlier. There's another indirect flight which leaves LOP 1610 & gets into KUL 2110 $162
Other flights leave earlier & get in much earlier & cost $200+
By getting into İstanbul early it opens up my flight options for the same day to Barcelona or nearby as I need to end up in Aragon for the night.
It actually works cheaper for me to book a return flight from Melbourne to İstanbul and then purchase seperate tickets from Melbourne to Lombok & Kuala Lumpur but if I don't take the first flight I've read they cancel the rest of the ticket so don't want to rock up in Kuala Lumpur not having taken the first Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur flight & then not get let on so don't want to chance it.

No way... they are different terminals (KLIA 1 and KLIA2) requiring you to go landside, catch a train and go through immigration again.
3 hours minimum and 4 to be safe
BTW I would never rely upon an afternoon Air Asia flight to be on time. Morning flights are okay but typically they get delayed as the day goes on.
Fly the day before and stay at a nearby hotel is my tip.
Damn Daniel. Thanks Mr Codger, makes sense. I'll arrive earlier in the day or travel the day before. 2 minds are always better than 1. Appreciated
I've noticed airlines themselves have 60 minute connecting flights
They have 60 mins connection because they are connecting between flights of the same airline or flights of partners, usually situated in the same terminal or area as each other. So there is no need to go through the whole process of clearing immigration, customs, travelling to another terminal/area, re-checking-in, clearing immigration and then heading to the boarding gate.
if 95 minutes is adequate time for me to make the connection?
AirAsia operates from KLIA Terminal 2 while Malaysia Airlines and Turkish Airways operate from Terminal 1. It is a 5-10 min journey by train between both terminals depending on the schedule (not free), or a 20 minute journey via the free inter-terminal bus service, both options not factoring waiting times:
https://www.kliaekspre
https://airports.ma
The issue with KLIA is that if you especially don't have access to the autogates which you won't have on your first entry into Malaysia since the implementation of allowing certain foreigners to use them, the queues at the standard immigration counters can be a while.
A 1.5 hour transfer between both terminals is risky especially when check-in closes 60 mins before departure, meaning you only really have a 30 minute window to transfer. While you can check-in online, you will have to see if you receive instructions in your email to present yourself at a check-in counter for document verification. Depending on your destination and what airport you depart from, certain airlines require you to present for a document check.
if I don't take the first flight I've read they cancel the rest of the ticket
That is correct especially for full-cost airlines. Only some low cost carriers will allow you to get away with it because they price the ticked by the segments.

I was going to take a one way ferry from Serangan to Gili Air but will now take a return ferry to take an onwards flight from Denpasar to Kuala Lumpur as there are many more direct options to KUL.
I wanted to have my cake & eat it by spending the 26th lounging around but appears it'll be a dedicated travel day so it is what it is. All fun & games.
Thanks sir, appreciated.
Has anyone used AirAsia recently from MEL-KUL? How strict are they with the 7kg? I plan to use a backpack and maybe a sling bag with a laptop and iPad. With the laptop and iPad, I believe I would already be close to 3-4kg so I’m worried even with minimal clothing plus the weight of the backpack, I’d surpass the 7kg weight. Alternatively, I have a small lightweight cabin luggage and a smaller work backpack. Will they weigh both bags?
How strict are they with the 7kg?
Pretty strict.
With the laptop and iPad
Why do you need to carry two large devices? The laptop can do what the iPad can, and vice versa: the iPad can do many functions that laptop does. You are just carrying devices with duplicating functions.
I’m worried even with minimal clothing plus
If you are not involved in a transit, then there is very little need to carry spare clothes in your carry-on.
weight of the backpack
You can opt to carry a lightweight pack.
Will they weigh both bags?
Yes, as the permissible weight allowance on AirAsia is 7kg across both pieces of carry-on:
https://www.airasia
The total weight of both pieces must not exceed 7kg.
Has anyone used AirAsia recently from MEL-KUL? How strict are they with the 7kg
I flew about 3 weeks ago from Syd to Kul, and they were weighing bags.
I got pulled up due to carrying two carry on bags, but due to buying a fastpass which includes two carry on bags of 7kg each i was waved on once showing proof on my boarding pass.
They didn't check everyone bags, but in my observations it was probably 50/50 one the amount of bags they were checking.
I haven't flown MEL-KUL, but have departed many times from OOL. I usually travel with only carry on and my experience is that as long as the combined weight of my backpack & shoulder bag is @ 8 kg there is no problem. I will be flying out from OOL on 4th July, but on this occasion my backpack will be checked in & I will carry on two small shoulder bags. Thus, I won't know if there is stricter enforcement of the 7 kg weight limit. In connection with this, I have been told by Jetstar ground staff that they are allowed to give leeway up to 7.5 kg.
Flying with AA from various airports in SE Asia & South Asia, I've found that carry on luggage is often not weighed, esp. when one has a e-boarding pass. When I flew KUL-OOL in February with FACES verification, there was not need to physically check in at all.
Air Asia has just announced that it will be operating direct flights between KL and Port Blair on the Nicobar Islands.
This enormous news as the Nicobars have rarely if ever had international flights.
Initially, AirAsia plans to operate thrice-weekly flights between Port Blair and Kuala Lumpur. Departures from Port Blair are scheduled around 11 am, arriving in Kuala Lumpur at 4:15 pm. Flights from Kuala Lumpur depart at 10:40 am and arrive in Port Blair at 10:25 pm, according to AirAsia's brochure.
