Seat selection is crazy expensive on the positive side food is ridiculously cheap still can get a meal for $5 or $6 dollars. They need to balance cost of food and seat selection more I think, but as I am a solo traveler if you arrive early at checkin I have no problem asking for a window or aisle seat.
It's the baggage costs for short haul flights that are way out of kilter as well.
As an aside there's a big push by airlines and cruise companies etc to get the headline price down and then sell extras.
I long for google or skyscanner to allow you to apply filters such as 20kg bag, ordinary/premium seat and meal.
At least in Australia we are protected from sites that show fares without fees and taxes.
The amusing thing about Air Asia is that it's trying to present itself as a digital play to investors but it has one of the worst digital platforms in the business
Seat selection is crazy expensive
Majority of my flying the past few years has been on Air Asia. While Air Asia has bumped up there add-on pricing a fair bit, enough to cause me to fly Thai Airways for a similar price at times, it's nothing compared to Cathay Pacific who I flew with again for the first time in years.
CX pricing for seat selection and extra baggage on their website was insane. Luckily my travel agent got my seat allocation sorted for free, and I stayed within the standard luggage weight limit.

Even worse, AirAsia has set up a consulting company to teach other airlines the AirAsia way.
All this, while Capital A – the parent company is listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (Bursa) as under financial stress.
The previously announced profit for the y/e 31 December 2023 of MYR 508m has been changed to a loss of MYR 96m after the auditors forced Capital A to recognize FOREX losses on leases in the P&L.

Even though I have had some problems with Airasia if they were to go bellyup the world of budget travel is going to get alot more expensive. They have many routes and times that other airlines dont do. I think in the last 10 years I have flown more with them than any other airline.
On the whole they have been very reliable another thing I dont understand the reward points you would need to circumnavigate the world three times to get a free one way trip to Bali.

Do you have a source for this so that people can have a read of the details?

They are not going to go down easily. As the biggest budget airline in S.E. Asia, many investors would be happy to pump the money in to fortify AirAsia's position in the region because that would make it difficult for others to carve a larger market for themselves. In fact their newest venture, AirAsia Cambodia, has already started flying:

Plus they've already extensively diversified their business such as cargo, travel agent, rideshare, food delivery, restaurants, etc. from the pandemic so that will ensure they are not just so dependent on the airline component of the company. That is why they've slightly rebranded the website and app to AirAsia Move, trying to emphasise AirAsia is not just who you turn to for low cost flights, but also a whole range of other products and services.

They did still make a profit for Q4 2023, just not as much, so unable to close that financial year in positive territory due to losses from previous quarters but the financial year loss is tiny in the whole scheme of things. If the swing to profit does gain or maintain momentum, then profit for this year should be reachable.
They did still make a profit for Q4 2023
Capital A has not distributed the MYR 604m FOREX loss over the quarters in 2023, so I do not know if the 4th quarter was a loss or a profit. I suspect that all four quarters showed a loss, after deducting the FOREX loss.
Most Chinese airlines had losses in Q4 2023.
Capital A has not seen a big rebound in outbound travel from China after the pandemic. It is also facing stiff competition from other budget airlines like Jetstar, Citilink, Vietjet and Bangkok Airways,
Jetstar benefited from the $A2 bn Jobkeeper payments to the Qantas group during the pandemic. Although, Jetstar uses cabin crews from Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia on its international flights.
Bangkok Airways
Just a small correction, but Bangkok airways is not a budget airline, so is not comparable to Air Asia
Doubt its going to let you check in and have a boarding pass issued for 2 separate tickets. Good luck though.
Im sure theres plenty out there that book 2 seats for themselves who want extra room
I tried to cancel the glitched one but the app wouldnt let me saying the flight had not been cancelled or delayed. It was redundant anyway as i and 2 others had the entire row of 9 seats to ourselves
Im sure theres plenty out there that book 2 seats for themselves who want extra room
yeah on a single ticket
Capital A made an unaudited loss of 224m MYR in Q1 2024.

Capital A is still on the financially distressed list at the Malaysian Stock Exchange (Bursa).
There will be a new Air Asia Indonesia route from CNS to DPS three times a week.

Ok something is confusing me. On the AA website they have a banner ad saying fly from GC to KUL from 279. Booking 8th to 16th flying 2nd sep to 8th october. of course i can't find any flights at all for anywhere near that as it's all jetstar to sydney then AA to kul etc. So they are having a sale for flights in a time period they don't even fly ?
So they are having a sale for flights in a time period they don't even fly ?
It appears that way. According to the info above, there are no direct flights in the time frame you require. Maybe there were a few indirect flights priced $279 in that period which have already been sold?
I think that the AA website is having a wobble.
AA is advertising direct AA flights from CNS to DPS, yet no flights appear on their website.

Yes, the website is close to useless. CNS-DPS flights appear on the app. I found a $159 flight for a friend a couple of days ago. I will be travelling OOL-DMK in 3-4 weeks. Direct flights (via KUL) only appear on the app.
It is possible to search AirAsia flights on airpaz.com but it is better to purchase directly from AA.
Not sure if mentioned on here already, but i just had a nice surprise flying Air Asia X out of Sydney 2 days ago, due to flying in flatbed section, the ticket now entitled me entry too the Plaza premium lounge. Was a nice surprise considering iwas just going to hang around at the airport to my flight time.
Evidently it started in April, and those flying D7 premium flat bed section will get the lounge access
