AirAsia X isn't just the Australian route. "Delhi and Tokyo" are described as star performers at 90% on your airasia link. One might reasonably suggest that Australian flights are under 80% from this? Hard to tell.
Maybe for under 80% but El Saif is claiming less than half so less than 50%. That is what I am disputing. If "star performers" are 90%, there is no mathematical way an under 50% load factor from Australia will result in an average load factor of 80% considering a substantial amount of their network is to/from Australia.
Just looking at Air Asia flights on Skyscanner (Melb to KL route) and was surprised to see that they are now flying daily. Not the most friendly times schedule wise but decent prices.
Surprised that I had not seen a press release as AA are quick to trumpet almost anything.
On the load factor a friend flew KL to Mel last week and there were lots of spare seats

People have been burnt during the whole COVID debacle. I'm not game enough to book Air Asia yet. People book Air Asia because they're cheap. But they're only cheap if they deliver, not if they swallow it and give it back as a time-sensitive credit when travel is prohibited.
Thanks to scoot leaving Gold Coast i now have no choice but to use Air Asia again. Fingers crossed they don't go under again.

I flew Syd-KL just over a week ago and it was packed. Flight was fine – as good as any other airline.
I was always spruiking how good Airasia is but i think they have lost the plot they want like @ $140 extra for the red seats at the front of the plane, to choose a normal seat is like $46 this is one way Perth to Jakarta flight.
Throw in they cannot be contacted by phone when i tried to cancel a flight for my insurance I am putting them at the bottom of the list for airlines. Also they only give one option to pay for flights so they can get that CC fee.
I am trying Citilink Airlines on the way back from Bali I will see how that goes, i try to avoid Airasia now but still got to use them on certain flights.
Just flew back. My comments are:
- seat width is narrow – a squash if you are in the middle or a bigger than average. Planes were full going both ways.
- on overnight flights they make these loud announcements up until about 2am local time, then wake you up 2 hours before landing to sell you duty free
- they use Terminal 2. If you are transiting between airlines allow at least 3 hours assuming your plane is on time, as you have to go out of one terminal (ie through immigration), catch a train or bus to the other terminal then in the other. Coming through terminal 1 immigration took an hour (although you can apparently pre register with immigration and go through the fast gates if you are from certain countries). The walk from immigration to the gates is looong.
- Putting your bags onto the plane in KL can be done yourself (print bag tags, boarding pass and loading onto belt). The queues are otherwise really slow because for some reason many Asians seem to travel will 2 bags each, some boxes and the kitchen sink and it takes ages for them to get through.
For a cheap flight to Asia, I would go with them again for sure.
I am guessing that you flew AA from KL to Jakarta?
Given the last item, it could easily be the Philippines. Pinoys love taking stuff home, even when it's cheaper to buy there.

Almost A$50 for a 20kg bag Singapore to KL
Totally ridiculous
Often cheaper to use full service airlines but the timing doesn't suit

If you are referring to me, KL to Syd.

It was the same going to Vietnam last year. People with boxes of cherries, boxes of ...
Does anyone know the price of an 'upgrade' at counter check-in for Premium Flatbed?
Flying from Syd to KL this weekend (D7), can see quite a few empty flatbeds in the front end, and wanting to nab a couple if available.
Website says can only upgrade on 'manage booking' for fare difference, or at the counter...
the price of an 'upgrade' at counter check-in for Premium Flatbed?
This was several years ago, but a few times i upgraded at check in from Economy to premium flatbed, and the price was around $400 pp each way.
If you got an absolute bargain fare it was a steal for that price.

I like this. As it means less people want the seats so if you purchase one yourself then there are good chances there will be nobody next to you. I'd pay for that!

I paid $84 for an extra legroom seat, in the middle of the plane. I even had my boarding pass but they changed it at check in and put me in a normal seat. I've been trying to get my money back since last December!
Anyone done the pth-kl AirAsia flights lately? Just wondering how full the flights have been lately. Cheers

Haha yes true. I ended up on Citilink from Bali to Perth left 1am, smoothest flight i have had plane was only like 30% full so everyone had a full seat to themselves but to be honest it was still not comfortable laying across the seat with fasten seat belt sign going off every 40mins. It was the fastest trip ever also we left the ground in Bali at 1am and touched down exactly at 4am not sure how they cut 30mins from that flight unless there were very favourable tail winds.
With citilink I believe you get 15kg luggage included so its my new budget airline way better than Airasia on that flight i paid $200 Airasia was @ $330 but better time leaving in the afternoon.

Yes, travelled on 7th July, maybe a couple of spare seats. Full on return on 19th.

AirAsia X, the medium/long haul arm of AirAsia Malaysia, has reported their first quarterly profit since the resumption of flights after the pandemic, and shareholder equity has returned to positive territory. They will be applying for the removal of the PN17 status on the Malaysian stock market, a status usually assigned to public companies that are in financial distress in Malaysia.
With increases in capacity and passenger numbers, the load factor for Q1 2023 has been 80%. Ancillary revenue (e.g. luggage, food, drinks, seats, connecting fee for "fly-thru" bookings) was RM244 (~A$80) per passenger.
Thai AirAsia X, the medium/long haul arm of Thai AirAsia, also had increases in capacity and passenger numbers with the load factor in Q1 being 88%.
AirAsia X is returning more of their parked aircrafts to the skies with five more aircrafts for the Malaysian side, and three
on the Thai side still parked. As the aircrafts gets reactivated, they will look to increase frequencies on some routes and serve new routes including to China and Turkey or Central Asia.
