The link no longer works. Looking at the publishing date and the stats mentioned, the below link details the same story

https://cityhub.com.au/cannabis-use-sparks-concerns-after-over-72000-prescriptions-dispensed/

It seems to be less of a story about medical cannabis and more about the unscrupulous practices of doctors working for a medical cannabis company- who appear more motivated to generate higher profits for their parent company than they are finding the best medical solutions for their patients. The accusations are to do with market manipulation; forcing patients into products that are higher priced by artificially limiting the supply of lower priced alternatives. It's really juse a good old fashioned consumer rip off.

Additionally given that doctors in Australia are generally reluctant to prescribe medicinal cannabis, patients likely have very limited options if they seek a MC prescription. If most of the doctors willing to write those presciptions are directly employed by a MC company there's a clear and obvious conflict of interest, which fails to put the health of the patient first. Think about the influence opiod producers wielded in the US and Canada in recent years- I don't think Australia wants to go down that path. Our regulators have a right to be concerned. It's not so much about taking issue with cannabis as a medicine, it's more about the ethics of companies who seek to put profits above patient care.
