As we all know, Optus have been in the process of upgrading several of their ADSL2+ enabled DSLAMs to remedy the port-locking problem.
Can anyone tell me when the upgrades will be completed, specifically for the Wolfe exchange in Newcastle?
Thanks
Can anyone tell me when the upgrades will be completed,
I asked a similar question on the Exetel forum (not much point asking it here !!!), the answer was that Optus don't even notify them when or where it is done, so there is not much chance of us end users finding out.
As I was one of the first ones to have problems with the Dynalink/Dslam faults, I too would like to know to have the 8000 limit taken off my connection and it put back to normal, but no one can tell me, as I have changed to Billion modem I suppose I can just ask to have it restored to what it was before and see what happens !!!
to have the 8000 limit taken off my connection
You can have your line reinstated to ADSL2+ connection, but force your Dynalink to connect in ADSL2 mode only, not ADSL2+, and you will get about 11Mb download
Dynalink to connect in ADSL2 mode only, not ADSL2+,
You didn't read my post properly, I am now using a Billion 7300G (bought off you by the way), the Dynalink has gone to the great Ebay in the sky, I have started a ticket with Exetel to have it brought back to normal, we'll just have to wait and see if it makes a difference.
i have tried both a netcomm nb9w and netgear dg834gt, both with the same problem.
Later i found, they both use the same chipset. So going off that, any other brand which uses the same chipset would probably have the same problem.
Geez... you got to be kidding. I have the same 2 modems (Netcomm NB9W) and (Netgear DG834GT), that I can use for the Exetel ADSL2+ connection from one brisbane location... same chipset hey... interesting to know - thanks.
The crazy thing is the NB9W goes into a EPipe 2344 box, as well as using a wireless 1MB/1MB link for redundancy, which works, but the damn thing throttles the speed back to about 200KB/sec for downloads :-( Unless of course, I setup a box right off the extra ports on the NB9W... then I am back up around 600KB/s to 900KB/s etc...
BTW, what is the port- locking problem??? Is that only outside QLD?
Cheers.
yeh Cocka I know exetel arent gonna help me on this forum (or even on there own forum :P )
Just wonderig if anyone had dates for completion. I know they planned the rollout this month, but no firm date (that ive heard of) on when it is to be completed.
The using ADSL2 modulation (instead of ADSL2+) might be a good idea as a short term solution. Considering the limited bandwidth pool for ADSL2 tailings into exetels POP, i would be lucky to have access to the full 11mb potential let alone the 18mb which i was syncing at prior to safety profile. What kills me is the 384kb upstream speed!
That will be interesting. Keep us posted!
It did not make a scrap of difference, when I reset the modem to ADSL+2 it actually slowed things down as compared to G.Dmt so I went back to that and it's the same as it was before.
It's probably got a lot to do with the fact I'm 3.9kms from the exchange with some very old (is there any other kind ??) Telstra infastructure in the way.
Further developments are that I am now getting continuous dropouts at 22000 kbps so I have asked Exetel to reset it to the 8000 kbps "safety' setting, my max speed is around 5500 kbps anyway so that shouldn't be a problem, I would just like a bit of reliability if possible.

That's interesting. My map distance is 2Km from the exchange, but my maximum never goes beyond 4000k. I don't get dropouts that often though (maybe 1-2 times a week), so I haven't asked Exetel to drop my profile to 8M.
