Brightness: 30

Sharpness: 50
Dynamic Contrast: Off

My settings after calibration with Spyder 3 Pro and comparing with 2209WA:
Brightness: 35
Contrast: 75 (default)
Input Color Format: RGB
Mode Selection: Graphics
Sharpness: 50 (default)
RGB: Custom
• R: 100
• G: 95
• B: 90
Still does not look the same as 2209WA but that's the closest I could get.
Thanks for those spyder settings, will give it a try :)
ps. have you found the spyder a worthwhile investment from a photographic viewpoint?
So am i correct to assume the 2209wa has better colour etc? hence u could not calibrate the u2311h to match it?
just found another review with calibration settings. They're VERY different to flatpanelHDs http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/r
I just tried 87, 100, 93 – it looks VERY weird... anybody getting weird results?
I haven't tried these but my screen as it came was very blue so these settings would not be correct at all. My current thinking is that there is a lot variation between individual monitors and that someone would need to test at least 30 monitors to make sample large enough to draw any conclusions on how the colours vary in production batches.
here's another set of calibrations:

Red 78
G 75
B78
Brightness 36
Contrast 75
just found another review http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2311h.htm
Good find, makes for an interesting read – they measure the average input lag to be quite low 10.6ms in that review. Here is a comparison chart

So to answer the question...
but is it good for gaming?
Apparently yes. Very good performance here and this shouldn't present any real problem to even hard core gamers.
It won't displace the 120Hz TN panels from the top of the LCD gaming list, but should be a better multi-purpose monitor.
VERY different to flatpanelHDs
I expect the difference is because each reviewer is using different brands of colour calibrators. each brand will produce different results.
I expect the difference is because each reviewer is using different brands of colour calibrators. each brand will produce different results.
Except in the two reviews that Jacko3000 was comparing:
TFT Central Review: The U2311H was tested at default factory settings using the DVI interface, and analysed using LaCie's Blue Eye Pro colorimeter and their accompanying software suite.
FlatpanelsHD Review: We use the DVI input for testing... The monitor has been measured and calibrated with a LaCie Blue Eye Pro.
Seems both reviews settle on about 30% brightness and both claim the default colour Gamma isn't too bad out of the box, but end up with quite different RGB levels after calibration.
Contrasting with these we have the hardforum user that calibrated with a Sypder3 Pro and settled on brightness around 35 but with each RGB level reduced to around 78.
I don't understand all this – if you reduce the RGB levels evenly isn't that the same as simply lowering the brightness level? Sorry if that is a dumb question.
Also I expect each monitor will have minor variations anyway which limits the usefulness of using other's settings on our own monitors?
Has any of you tried this screen in portrait mode? How's the text/colour?
In portrait mode everything viewed straight-on looks good up and down. If you view from an angle right-of-screen there is very noticeable darkening. (This is equivalent to looking down at the screen when in landscape mode i.e. you notice the screen darken when standing up from your desk.) Looking at portrait at an angle from the left also results in darkening though perhaps not quite as bad as from the right.
So if viewing pictures in portrait mode they may look good to you but not so good for your colleague/customer sitting beside you.
Hi all
I'm after a monitor like this. I don't want to spend 700 on the U2410 UltraSharp.
I'm using this mainly for photoshop. Can anyone think of any reasons why i shouldn't get this?
I really cant....Im just about to order one.
Dont forget to use a discount coupon

I am about to order one of these as well from the Ebay Dell site ($339 with coupon) which includes delivery, does the Dell site cost include delivery?
