I've been using Internode for a little while but recently switched to Dodo Internode. I was on the $99 per month package. Before the switch, my connection was no more than 11MB per second. After the switch my speed easily reached 50+MB per second. The same modem. The switch was instantaneous.
Apparently, Internode is overloading its own servers, not enough bandwidth/engineer/investments.
I called their customer support many times, but everytime they claimed it was my own problem. It was **their** own problem.
This is a warning from a former Internode user. Don't choose Internode under any circumstance. The only thing Internode is doing good is their payment system charging money they should not have earned. The Internode engineers are only good at writing online payment system only.
have been with Internode for around 10 years
now on a 50mbps plan
have no issues with speed, not even thinking of changing providers even thought i could do cheaper,
as for their engineers, i had an issue, with a Billon modem that was playing up, maybe.. 5 years ago.
Internode assigned a Cisco guy to me, and he worked on it remotely, i thought i was a nerd but this guy was off the scale with his knowledge and skill.
he troubleshooted my modem, showed me exactly how it's faulty, and the modem was not even supplied by Internode.
if i said my 10 years with Internode was 100% smooth i would be lying, but Internode has always been there to assist.
Been with Internode since they were just Internode rather than through the multitude of mergers / takeovers since. Never had any problem with their connections etc, on the rare occasions I've had to call them, their customer service used to be great but seems to have deteriorated with each new parent company.
I was with Internode for literal decades, however since their sale to TPG their performance has truly been wanting.
Internode was a premium product now under TPG group, it's just another brand
I don't even think there is any premium features attached to iinet/Internode anymore. They all use the same routing, no data prioritisation, same customer service team. Just iinet/Internode customers pay more compared to TPG customers
There are better value providers out there and iinet%Internode was the darling of Whirlpool now it's other RDP with local support run by people who care about their customers
any premium features attached to iinet/Internode anymore.
Iinet/internode additional features over TPG standard residential are 4g backup if you get their router and internode has ipv6.

You are correct
I haven't been with Internode for a while now (left when NBN came to my area, as their offerings were underwhelming compared to my previous ADSL2+ deal). It's pretty jarring to hear that they're worse than Dodo. They were an excellent ISP, once upon a time. Even being iiBorged didn't seem to affect their service too much (from my perspective), but things definitely started going downhill after the TPG takeover. RIP, the real Internode.

Posts that have statements like "This is a warning from a former Internode user. Don't choose Internode under any circumstance" generally dont have a lot of substance to them. A bit like reading the Product Review website, of which if we followed the commentary, wouldn't get out from under our beds each morning let alone use the internet. You are taking the word of one single person who thinks Dodo are better than Internode.
I doubt Internode are realistically any better or worse than most of anything else out there. The Internode forum doesn't have much in the way of complaints about performance.
Internode doesn't really exist – it's just a zombie brand for the current owners, and eventually the brand will be extinguished.
but things definitely started going downhill after the TPG takeover. RIP, the real Internode.
Agreed. Shortly after the TPG takeover speeds in many parts of Queensland turned to rubbish. Many assurances were given that things would improve shortly. The only thing that really increased was the rate of assurances, speeds remained terrible. There was even pretty reasonable anecdotal evidence that Internode-TPG was fiddling with traffic prioritisation to ensure the Internode hosted speed test would return good results. I left at this point. Eventually things did improve and assurances were given that 'we have so much capacity now that this will never happen again', then it did. Speeds turned to rubbish again.
Perhaps speeds are better years later, but I won't be paying TPG to find out.
Speed was only part of the decline. The rot had set in well before TPG came along. The merger with iinet spelt the end of Internode. Today simply managing additional mailboxes via the web site is not fully functional, and hasn't been for a very long time.
I have no regrets at bailing out when I did.
I also agree. Very happy to be away from internode's dysfunctional management systems. They aren't even capable of raising an invoice for an email account.

I agree, the OP clearly has little to no understanding about what they are bleating about. The post should be deleted.
Internode/iiNet/TPG is well-known to be a pretty bad RSP. Their service is among the worst and their kinda famous for unreliable internet. I'd say from all the people I know IRL, around 80-90% have had issues with them. If you're gaming, definitely avoid. It's very common to say short dropouts (like 5-10 seconds at a time). For reliability, you really want Superloop, ABB, or Future.

As someone that's used the internet in several states, different addresses, and equipment, it's very clear that TPG/iiNet/Internode are by far the least reliable RSP. For gaming, their latency is completely unreliable even nationally. Their international pings will regularly jump from 100 to 300+. That's the normal experience.

Thanks for these suggestions. I seriously need to get my housemate to ditch Telstra bigpond or whatever it is they call it. It’s only 50 Mbps and the Telstra modem (and extender) sux so much. It’s not even Wi-Fi 5 I don’t think, only 802.11n? It frequently has problems.
I can certainly say that in the past iiNet is one of the worst customer experiences I’ve ever had. They didn’t even connect me properly and then tried to blame me and didn’t compensate me at all despite taking over a month to connect my internet. What a shit company. I too remember when Internode were good and independent. That was a long time ago now.
Of these, which do you think is best? Wi-Fi 6 would be a minimum but I don’t believe we have any 6E devices in the household yet.

Your house mate's problem is not renewing or jumping around to the new plans and you are currently sitting on a old plan. Telstra has had a WiFi 5Ghz router for 10+ years. You would get a new one if you just switched plans when you login.

No one really knows. Everyone still thinks ISP routers are crap. Telstra SM3 has great range, however firmware is a little buggy but will get fixed eventually. In saying that, a lot of people are happy with Telstra SM3 and SM2. There is also a lot of users that provide their experience here on Whirlpool so be happy about that.
You will jsut need to take the risk with ZTE, Netcomm, Optus and the TP-Link ones that superloop, AussieBB, iiNET/Internode/TPG/Vodafone and Optus provide.

You are exactly right. I tried to help but he is old and stubborn. I’m not staying much longer anyway. I just tried to help out because his internet frequently has problems, especially when he has guests over.
I need to look after myself. If he doesn’t respond to prompts or offers to help that’s his problem. Some people just don’t want to be helped.
As for me I want to go the 5G route. It’s not the cheapest but speed is potentially excellent and I’m not as heavy a data user as I once was. Most have infinite data at a capped speed after the allocation is exhausted.
I have been with internode for 3 years and never had a problem. $89 per month and a very stable 250mbs. FTTP
