Ok, so I'm using Google Maps turn by turn for the first time on this phone... And it immediately said "GPS signal lost".
I had to reboot the phone to get it working again.
I thought it was no biggie... Until it did it again, requiring another reboot.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried that my GPS radio might be borked.

GPS signal lost.. Hmm.. Did you set accuracy level to "device only"? This mode relies only on the gps and take a much longer time to lock
Did you set accuracy level to "device only"?
No, it's set to 'high accuracy'. :(
What are some things I can do to test it?
Any diagnostic apps?

Just downloaded it.... And it says nothing except 'no fix' and zeroes everywhere. :( I was outside with clear open sky for quite a few minutes too.
Is that it? Nothing else to try? Do I have to return it now?
Is there a way to make the camera work good or do I have to buy a app?
Is there a way to make the colours look vibrant and alive as mine look washed out and dull or is that just the look of this phone.

Different camera software has different looks. The OOB camera has some nice settings for you to get different feels out of. Obviously with Instagram and other lomo type camera apps you get a different feel.
I find Auto very good though, especially in bright light conditions.
Stumbled across this cool article – http://android.wonderhowto.co
Some here might find the info useful I'm sure.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried that my GPS radio might be borked.
I haven't had this problem. I use the GPS every day with one of my apps. It locks on solid every time and very fast to find everything as well.
This phone has the best GPS of any device I've used. I leave it on 'device only' mode and it locks every time within a few seconds at most. I find I'm using navigation a lot more now because of this :)
No, it's set to 'high accuracy'. :(
I use ggps test. It shows a lot of data and also let's you reset the agps data.
Ok, so I've tried GPS test again while driving to work, and... It works. It locked on up to 25 satellites at one stage. Switched to Google Maps and that works fine too.
However as soon as I walked into work, GPS test reads "No fix" again. Shouldn't it at least connect to a few? I'm in a three storey building in an industrial area.
@Corvus
It sounds like your AGPS isnt working, which could mean cell or wifi location isnt working, relying only on GPS sats which can be slow/flaky, esp indoors.
Are you rooted? I can outline how I fixed mine but requires root.
It sounds like your AGPS isnt working, which could mean cell or wifi location isnt working
Why wouldn't it be though? I can connect to wifi networks fine, and LTE works fine.
Are you rooted?
No, running standard CM11s.
I can outline how I fixed mine but requires root.
Did you have exactly the same problem?
It doesn't really explain why it wasn't working while I was driving last night until I rebooted though, does it?
AGPS relies a set of pre specified servers, nothing to do with your otherwise data connection. AGPS settings can be regionalised.
I had a similar issue with GPS randomly going from nothing (no satellites even outdoors) to full reception. Now resolved.
Just trying to help but whatever. Good luck with your problem then mate.
Had the phone for a few weeks now and there's a lot to like, but finding the sound quality when I'm receiving calls ain't great. Voices just don't sound as clear as my last phone (Galaxy S3).
Anyone else experiencing this?
AGPS settings can be regionalised
I think that's the key. How to change this server list ? (just out of curiosrity)
Just trying to help but whatever.
Woah. Haha easy there, I wasn't meaning to me rude. I was asking a genuine question. No harm meant. :)
I had a similar issue with GPS randomly going from nothing (no satellites even outdoors) to full reception. Now resolved.
Yeah that sounds like pretty much what I'm experiencing. How did you fix yours?
Voices just don't sound as clear
Same here. I find the voice I am hearing is muffled. Not as clear as my Nexus 4
Woah. Haha easy there, I wasn't meaning to me rude. I was asking a genuine question. No harm meant. :)
Hard to tell on forums, thought you were being snarky.
Anyway, procedure:
- Requires root
- Edit /system/etc/gps.conf
- Modify ntp server to ours (au.ntp.pool.org)
- Modify other variables (like SUPL server if you want)
- Reboot
If you don't want to fuss around, there's an app called 'GPS Status and Toolbox' on the Play Store which will do this all for you, obviously requires root, but it has non-root diagnostic features.
On my Nexus 5 the NTP server sped up GPS lookups substantially. Also I noticed copying the N5 gps.conf to my OPO borked the OPO GPS. Probably because the GPS capabilities are different between the devices.
Other notes:
- This was quite a while ago (a month or so), when I first got the OPO. Then after I started flashing CM11 nightlies, the problem no longer exists, even with out of the box settings, so I don't bother changing anything. CM11(S) is usually a few versions behind CM11, so who knows.
- If you use a GPS tester like the app I mentioned above, it tells you how long it takes to get a good lock. I've found on average, under somewhere between 5-20 seconds is normal. A telltale sign it's screwed is if the 'maximum' GPS satellites is stuck on 0.
- When working, the OPO GPS is far superior to GPS on my other Android devices, in accuracy and speed.
However as soon as I walked into work, GPS test reads "No fix" again. Shouldn't it at least connect to a few? I'm in a three storey building in an industrial area.
The GPS on this phone beats my old SGS2 hands down. (The Galaxy required a lot of fiddling to get it to work properly)
I've only had to reboot my phone once since I got it to get the GPS working again and I think it had something to do with me mucking around with Privacy Guard then anyway.
Just tried it indoors from my 2nd story office, got a lock on 16 satellites within 20 secs.
Anyway, procedure:
- Requires root
- Edit /system/etc/gps.conf
- Modify ntp server to ours (au.ntp.pool.org)
- Modify other variables (like SUPL server if you want)

Hey thanks for that! Can't wait to try it out.
I'm a first time Android user. Is there a more detailed step-by-step instruction list on how to actually root this phone to achieve this?
What's a SUPL server? And why would I want to modify this?
Am I supposed to modify these config files on my PC?
This is a good start on unlocking bootloader/root:
http://forum
I'd say it's borderline overkill to root to fix an intermittent GPS issue which might resolve itself in another CM11S OTA update. As somebody else mentioned, it's worth checking Privacy Guard and making sure not just the app itself, but 'Android System' and 'Google Services' have location access.
Some threads with others who are having GPS issues too:
http://forum.xda-develop
http://forum.xda-develo
http://forum.xd
However, there are plenty of other benefits of root access (like TitaniumBackup / Xposed modules / system-level firewall / etc) which might interest tinkerers, there's plenty of threads on benefits of rooting already. Personal choice entirely.
If you wanted to, short version:
- Unlock bootloader (this will wipe the device, that's why it's better to do it at the start, or do a full backup first)
- Flash custom recovery
- Flash SU on top of stock ROM, or flash entire custom ROM
- Go nuts
- Entire process can be completely reversed for warranty claims
SUPL:

SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7275
Apps for localising gps.conf:
FasterGPS – https://play.google.com/store
GPS Status and Toolbox – https://play.google.com/store
Root without wiping:
https://forums.oneplu
Only works on some versions.
On a related note, OnePlus stress testing facilities:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY4CJxbauEU
Includes:
- sit/bend test
- small drop test
- large drop test
- usb port bend test
- usb port insert test
- rain test
- heat test
- tumble test
Seems fairly thorough, I'm sure 99% of manufacturers do this, but good to see it in action
I'd say it's borderline overkill to root to fix an intermittent GPS issue which might resolve itself in another CM11S OTA update.
That's not the point though. Other people's GPS's are working fine right now. I want mine to work fine right now. I don't really understand why everyone else's works well and mine doesn't.
it's worth checking Privacy Guard and making sure not just the app itself, but 'Android System' and 'Google Services' have location access.
I'm checking privacy guard right now and both services are 'allowed'.
GPS Status and Toolbox
I tried this, and it says that it will only work for a few days, and I'll have to keep doing it.
This doesn't seem like a good permanent fix. I want it to work just as well as anyone else's phone. I'm trying to work out if it is a hardware fault or not.
You're saying that rooting shouldn't be necessary to fix this. If the fixes you've outlined above are only temporary, will rooting fix it permanently?
I'd followed the following guide on my nexus 4 to improve GPS fix speed – requires root.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU67XHD0kj4
I didn't try GPS on my oneplus one before doing the above, as I did it straight away after getting root on my new phone too. I haven't had any GPS issues since.
The compass, however, was very very wonky when using Ingress this morning. Spinning me around a lot, and only settling down when i was walking (so obviously using GPS, rather than the compass in the phone. Running a sensor test when back at my desk at work seems to show compass working though).
I'd followed the following guide on my nexus 4 to improve GPS fix speed
Thanks, I'll try it tonight.
requires root.
Since I've already got quite a few apps/settings on my phone with custom lock screens/launchers, etc, is there a way to back all of this up so that all I have to do after rooting is restore it and it'll be exactly the same as it was previously?
I'd say it's borderline overkill to root to fix an intermittent GPS issue which might resolve itself in another CM11S OTA update.
Still haven't received my phone yet but if everything doesn't work out of the box as it should, or if it has yellowing at the bottom of the screen it's going back for a refund.
I'm a serial flashaholic and normally root a new phone on day one but I'm pretty sure everyone will agree we shouldn't have to root and generally dick around to get a reliably working GPS.

i believe you can do an adb full backup to basically take an image of the phone and copy it to your computer. then unlock the bootloader, wiping your phone, then restore the adb full backup. then install custom recovery (eg TWRP). Then use TWRP to flash superSU (giving you root).
or, alternatively, there was an exploit on the nexus 4/5 to unlock the bootloader without wiping everything. I can't recall whether it was a generic android option (and so might work on the OPO) or nexus specific. I did it the old fashioned wiping way.
we shouldn't have to root and generally dick around to get a reliably working GPS.
Exactly.
Since my brother has exactly the same phone, I will check his tonight and see if it has the same difficulties.
If it doesn't, then I may just return mine. I really don't have the time to 'root around' just to fix an issue that shouldn't be an issue in the first place.
Is it possible that I could have downloaded something off the Play Store that stuffed around with the GPS? I've got Nova Launcher and a custom lock screen with a theme, but that's about it. :-\

Christ! That sounds like it would take ages!
Is there a step by step procedure for this somewhere??
For the app above that lists fixing it as being 'temporary', I don't know why, you'll have to ask the dev. I've always just modified my conf by shell scripts. As to whether it'll permanently fix your issue, who knows, I'm not OnePlus. There's too many unknowns, we don't really have enough info. What works for some might not work for others. I can only suggest a few things from my experience which might or might not work, nothing is guaranteed.
For example, you haven't said what does the GPS Status app say? How long to get fix (when it does)? How many sats? What does it say about AGPS status? Does the problem happen in all navigation apps? What build number of CM11S? Post a dump of your gps.conf? Etc, etc.
The truth is, official support from OnePlus is scarce at best, that's the price we pay if something goes wrong. I knew this even before buying the phone.
From a common sense perspective, it absolutely should NOT require tweaking of any kind to get basic functionality working, agreed and I've ALREADY said that it could be overkill previously. But for me, I don't mind getting my hands dirty. Each to their own.

No.

I already said that in my earlier post, it's overkill to root to fix this problem. I'm not sure how much clearer I can be. It's entirely personal choice. At no time did I say you MUST root to fix this (and it might well not).

I can remember several posters on here saying that this is the best GPS they've come across. Just wondering if it was like that for them out of the box? Not saying it wasn't.... just wondering. If it was great out of the box for some, it sounds like there may be an issue with some units.

It may not have come across well but I was reinforcing what you were saying...not arguing against it. :)
This is what I don't understand.
In my GPS test app, it says there are 32 satellites in view, and yet it maintains "No fix".
Likewise, GPS Status app reads "0/32" under "Fix/stats", but is stuck on 'finding GPS location'.
Mind you, I'm on the ground floor in a three storey building.
If it's getting signal from the GPS sats, why can't it fix my location??
Is this a hardware fault or not?
If it's getting signal from the GPS sats, why can't it fix my location??
Are the vertical bars that indicate the satellites coloured or grey? If I walk outside my are coloured (the colour depends on the signal strength of that particular satellite) and I get a fix. If I then walk inside they go grey and I lose the fix. Then I eventually lose all the grey bars.
Edit: Galaxy Note 2.
Edit2: Just stuck the phone next to a window. I get half a dozen or so grey bars but no fix. I think you need to try it outside. I've never had much joy with GPS indoors.
Unlikely to be hardware fault. I've just found the relevant bug page, the CM team know about this issue, it's documented but yet unresolved:
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-115
Related:
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-978
It appears to be happening to some people on the older 25R and 30O versions, as well as the newer 33R version (you can check your version in Settings => About Phone)
It's worthwhile to note that 33R is the most up to date CM11S version released by OnePlus, but it's nearly 7 weeks behind. There's been 3 commits to GPS code in the CM nightlies that I've seen since then, which might explain why the issues seem to be only affecting CM11S users.
Short version, if you want to stick to official ROMs, just sit and wait. The workaround in the meantime is to reboot the device it seems.
Likewise, GPS Status app reads "0/32" under "Fix/stats", but is stuck on 'finding GPS location'.
That means it hasn't locked on to any of the 32 satellites "in view".
Probably your EPO data is out of date too.
Go outside and point your phone at the sun, enable data to allow the EPO data to update.
Are the vertical bars that indicate the satellites coloured or grey?
No. None at all inside.
I'll wait till lunch and go outside and try again.
It's worthwhile to note that 33R is the most up to date CM11S version released by OnePlus, but it's nearly 7 weeks behind.
That's the one I'm on. Shouldn't that mean that ALL users on 33R are affected? Why are some affected and some aren't?
Short version, if you want to stick to official ROMs, just sit and wait.
Ok, and what if I want to upgrade to the latest 'nightly'? Do I lose any data on the phone?
Short version, if you want to stick to official ROMs, just sit and wait. The workaround in the meantime is to reboot the device it seems.
What's the difference between CM11 and CM11S. Does the "S" version have anything that's specific to this phone?
Shouldn't that mean that ALL users on 33R are affected? Why are some affected and some aren't?
Not necessarily, maybe it's a combination of factors that cause it to get borked. Read the comments in the jira thread.
Ok, and what if I want to upgrade to the latest 'nightly'? Do I lose any data on the phone?
Yes, as outlined above, you will wipe the phone when you unlock bootloader. It's been said a few times already, and the very first link I posted earlier today had the entire step by step instruction.
Honestly, don't do it. It sounds like you don't have the curiosity or patience to read the links earlier, then you're bound to become frustrated with the process quickly and then I'll get blamed. You just want your GPS fixed, and that likely happen at the next OTA update.
You just want your GPS fixed, and that likely happen at the next OTA update.
I'm not going to wait for the next OTA update just to get working GPS.
As you can imagine, I'm quite pissed off that I happened to have a borked unit.
I want it working now. Not later.
When's the next OTA update due anyway?
S is the OnePlus specific version of CM11, with packaged binary Google blogs, it's own color profile, AudioFX DSP, OnePlus camera, hex visual theme and OnePlus lockscreen. Most of these things can be retro loaded onto nightly CM11 (there's APKs and zips available readily).
As we've seen the CM11S lags behind in driver fixes and updates by quite a bit.
I want it working now. Not later.
I'd stomp my feet too like an entitled child, then I'd actually take the time to read and learn the information that's already been given. It's ALL there. READ the links. Seriously. Nobody's going to hold your hand, people have already gone out of their way to help you, but you're just making it difficult by not wanting to do the work.
As we've seen the CM11S lags behind in driver fixes and updates by quite a bit.
Thanks. So there's no GPS issue with CM11? Are you running it or another custom rom? Looks like there's a fair bit of choice.
then I'd actually take the time to read and learn the information that's already been given.
Who says I won't? I'm at work now buddy, not all of us have the time to just drop everything and embark on an hours long learning experience just to fix a bloody problem that shouldn't be there in the first place. I'm not sure why you're the one getting angry when I've already said thanks for your help.
So again,
Do we know when the next OTA update is due?
'd stomp my feet too like an entitled child, then I'd actually take the time to read and learn the information that's already been given.
This. MadHatter has done all the leg work for you, now (if you are willing) all you have to do is follow instructions.
Edit: sorry saw you already responded
Outside now. Seems to work fine, however within half an hour, GPS dropped out again, displaying no fix for all GPS testing apps.
Restarted the phone and it came good again. When it works, it gets a fix within 8 seconds, and connects to between 10-17 satellites.
I'll have a look at installing nighties tonight. Pisses me off that I'm essentially forced into doing this, but oh well.
Do we know when the next OTA update is due?
Production & Software
The latest OTA is being tested further. We expect the process to take a few weeks, which means you guys should receive it sometime in mid-October.
https://forums.oneplus.net/t
sometime in mid-October
I guess I may as well wait if it's going to be that soon.
I'm just worried it may be an intermittent hardware fault.
Although if it was, you wouldn't expect a restart to fix it every time, right?

This may sound like dejavu to you:
It was unable to pick up a GPS signal and therefor failed to record the route, distance and speed. After I rebooted the phone everything was fine again

Yeah, still requires me to dive head-first into the world of 'rooting' and spend a few hours getting my head around how to do backups, rooting, restoring, etc (this is my first Android phone) and since I don't have the patience/time I may just wait a couple weeks for the OTA update.
One time I also had my accelerometer stop working. eg: you'd rotate the phone, but the apps wouldn't rotate. And in a test app there was no signal recorded from the accelerometer. One reboot later and it's been working fine ever since.
Probably not the greatest intro to Android for you. :(
It does suck as a first experience, but hopefully he won't let it cloud his whole perception of android. :)
It could have been any phone. He doesn't have to get hands on with rooting and changing config files if he doesn't want to. If he can wait, there will be an OTA which will likely fix his issue. If he can't wait, he can root and try and fix it himself.
He might have bought an iPhone4 back in the day, and waited a few weeks for a fix to the reception issues (weeks or months? I have no idea how long it took). Or upgraded to IO8 on his iPhone5 and bricked it, and needed to wait for the patch from Apple. Except in the latter circumstances, he doesn't have the option of getting his hands dirty to fix it himself if he wants. He only has the option of waiting for the fix.
With the Oneplus One, he can wait for the fix, or try and fix it himself.
If he waits, it's no different to any other android or iphone he could have bought, in that it might have had issues, and he might have to wait for an official fix. :)
So chin-up, corvus. It'll all be good once you get there. It's just unfortunate you hit an issue on day one of your first android phone :(
If he waits, it's no different to any other android or iphone he could have bought
I don't mind waiting 2 weeks if it's definitely something that can be fixed with software. I'm just worried that there's a chance it could be a hardware fault.

Yes, fair comments. My last buying experience was 2 x HTC One Max phones in a row that had dodgy 3G reception and no 4G. Must have been a faulty batch.
I think I'll just be in flashing mode when my One arrives. I've downloaded all the tools and am waiting.
Pretty peeved that DWI uses Aus Post eParcel to get the package from Brisbane to regional areas. If they'd used a decent carrier the phone would have been here today to fiddle with all long weekend, but I doubt that's going to happen.
I think I'll just be in flashing mode when my One arrives. I've downloaded all the tools and am waiting.
You won't be disappointed! I got mine two weeks ago and lovin it.
Mahdi + plus Franco kernel + vomertweaks is giving me 7+ hours SOT!
Root without wiping:
https://forums.onep
Only works on some versions.
Dont try this root method. More headaches in the long run. Did you do a factory reset before you started using the phone?
Did you do a factory reset before you started using the phone?
No I didn't. Why would I do that? Isn't the phone already 'factory' when you take it out of the box?
I received my 64gb version from OnePlus yesterday. After a days use I have decided to see if I can try and sell it for what I paid for it. If not, I might hold on to it.
The OPO is a fantastic phone overall but my previous phone, Note 3 just feels better.
2 issues
1. I dont like using the notification light. I used noled on my note 3. Would drain battery if I used it on OPO
2. I think Im too used to the AMOLED screens with saturated colours. OPO screen looks so dull.
Things Ill miss
1. Less bloatware
2. Camera in low light conditions
Good luck. I came from a note 3. With lack of updates, bloatware, GPS that never worked and battery drain. My opo is great and I won't be going back. I do miss the stylus on the Note though.

Are you saying you preferred having a few screen pixels blinking instead of an actual notification light? What's so bad about an actual light?
2. I think Im too used to the AMOLED screens with saturated colours. OPO screen looks so dull.
I also dislike the lifeless faded colours on my OPO I thought it must be stuffed or fixable. I guess its not.
Wish I knew this before purchase.
Wish I knew this before purchase.
Yea what's with that? One reviewer said the OPO screen comparable to the iphone6+??
My 2 yr old iphone5 compared to OPO, both at max brightness, is more vibrant and bright.
Not a deal breaker for me as I don't watch videos or 3d games on phone but wish more reviewers had mentioned this.
Problem with android reviewers seem to be hard core fan bois or maybe just want to avoid the abuse/hate mail/death threats that will come their way lol

Settings -> display -> screen colour -> custom
Go crazy and crank those sliders until your eyeballs burn.
Are you saying you preferred having a few screen pixels blinking instead of an actual notification light? What's so bad about an actual light?
1 light can only notify you of so much. On the note 3 I use the light purely for battery. Then I use no led icons to notify me of:
Missed calls (with contact photos)
Sms
We chat
WhatsApp
Calendar
And 3 different email accounts.
It's one of those things where if you haven't used it, it's no big deal but when you have. ... Hard to go back.
After realising this, I really hope Samsung don't stop using amoled screens
1 light can only notify you of so much.
so, so much. I have lightflow installed. quick green flashes = kik message. slow red = gmail inbox. faster red = gmail important. yellow medium = charging. slow orange = hangouts. medium light green = sms. white = todoist task. blue = ingress. and it cycles through them if there's multiple at once. you should give it a try. :)
edit: i must admit, i haven't used noled since my nexus S import, which i had after a blackberry and i missed blackberry's single flashing red light. noled might be a lot fancier now. :)
Does anyone else have problems using the flash on a third party camera app (e.g. Google Camera)? I find that photos have a split line in the middle... Flash photos work fine on the Cyanogenmod camera however...

Guys, I'm not getting Facebook notifications (never have since I got the phone). At first it didn't really bug me, but it's a bit inconvenient now.
I've tried flushing the cache on the app, deleting and installing it again – no effect. Notifications are enabled both within the app and its settings.
What can I do to fix this?
I have a feeling this is a general Facebook problem since they released Facebook home. It is not just opo but android generally.
So it's happening for you too?
I have the exact same problem on my g3.. I get notifications for fb messenger but not for the fb app itself.
Received my OPO last week but killing me that I'm not using it as my daily phone yet until my tempered glass screen protector and Diztronic case arrive! Being treated with kid gloves until then.

You're way more careful/strong willed than I am! I just hope they get here quick! Today I though I got a small scratch at the corner of the screen, it was a false alarm thankfully.
Flashed Franco kernel and set warm screen color thru kcal. Much prefer a uniform yellow screen than a yellow band at bottom. How did everyone else deal with this?
You don't have a OPO running CyanogenMod?
Nope, just thought I'd chime in so you didn't feel left out haha
This Nillkin one from eBay.
Yeah considering that one or orzly
Been reading this and its pushing me towards orzly
think ill get it

Let us know how your one is
So I have had my OPO since Friday and loving it! But having really odd battery drain from android services, also my display isn't staying on while I watch videos and and like?
Is this a know issues? Currently running the cm11s that comes with the phone
Let us know how your one is
I have an Orzly. I believe its a few mm small in size across its width. Not a major issue, as other than this its very good.

Wow, that is wierd seems like 2 different tones completely.
No I didn't. Why would I do that? Isn't the phone already 'factory' when you take it out of the box?
Just try it. Possibly you will get the .au settings for satellite search without rooting.Used to be easily modified on the old Nokias.
Being a Cyanogenmod phone I thought everyone would be ready for a bit of "fun" with their phones
battery drain from android services
Some older version of google play services are known to cause battery drain. There's no way obvious way to update this service. One way to make it happen is to update one of google core apps, esp. Hangouts. This will then require you to update google play service. See if this helps.

Install TWRP and go on the nightlies.

That flew over my head. How do we force an app to update from google play?

Thanks I'm fairly sure I'm running the latest hsngouts, but I'll try the others

I don't know if this would work or not. What if you uninstall and then reinstall the app.
How do we force an app to update from google play?
I dont know. Sometimes my wife's phone receive app updates quicker than mine. No matter how I tried to refresh, I was unable to get the new version until a few days later. I remember this from the Gmail app update a while ago.
Just try it.
Ok, so let's say I do a factory reset.
Since I haven't used an Android phone before, what's actually backed up to Google servers from my end? Are my SMS history and system settings preserved?
Also, is there a particular way I have to reset it? Or just press "Factory data reset" from the settings menu?
If you can, root your device and use titanium backup :)
Best app you'll ever purchase!
But nothing can beat a nandroid backup :)

Sorry, I'm new to Android and I simply don't have the time to spend hours learning how to root my device and fiddle around with code and supplementary apps. I shouldn't have to do all that just to get something as basic as GPS working.
I've decided to return it to DWI, since the problem is now actually worse. Now I can't even get it working for more than a few mins after I reboot. Hopefully they can organize a replacement quickly. I've sent them an eBay message this morning, but haven't gotten back to me yet. Hopefully I'll hear from them tomorrow.
Super pissed-off, because I've just applied a $25 glass screen protector that will now be wasted, and I've also got the phone customised exactly as I wanted.
and I've also got the phone customised exactly as I wanted.

option 5: backup everything, without root required.
you just need some drivers on your computer (if you have windows), and activate a setting on the phone, and connect the phone to the computer.
then when you get your replacement phone, restore the backup. All your settings and icon layouts should be there.
I shouldn't have to do all that just to get something as basic as GPS working.
Totally agree.

FWIW I've found their online chat to be a fairly efficient way of communicating with them.
Super pissed-off...
I can imagine. I'm no stranger to purchasing faulty phones but the screen protector is adding insult to injury. :(

Not going to work in this case, as they don't seem to want anything to do with their eBay team/orders.
Not going to work in this case, as they don't seem to want anything to do with their eBay team/orders.
If they are going to be like that I'd probably just go for a refund. Trying to get an exchange could turn into a long painful process.
If they are going to be like that I'd probably just go for a refund.
Why?? I bought it incredibly cheap. Getting a refund would be a crazy idea, because it means I would have to re-buy the phone and MUCH more inflated price.
Can you please explain your suggestion?
Because they well just give you more grief, with no guarantee of a trouble free replacement unit. It looks like you're not ready for a 1+1. This is a CM phone running on China designed & developed hardware. People who use the community supported CM ROMs are root/flash happy. This culture has crept into the retail CM11S too. There well always be niggles requiring root, custom kernel, ROMs to fix. My unit has the yellow band defect requiring Franco kernel's configurable RGB to workaround it, not 100% but at least 70-80. I think you should ask for a refund and buy a Nexus 6. You will get professional after sales support.
If you can, root your device and use titanium backup :)
Best app you'll ever purchase!
But nothing can beat a nandroid backup :)
What a nandroid backup?
And how does it differ from a backup using the titanium app that you recommended?
Wow nice! Thanks, salem!
Yes follow the xda link. Also you should factory reset before sending it back. So when you fact reset, it may work. Does it have theyellow banding? If not, its a keeper. So fact resetand use it a few days.
Ps Pls ensure you manually delete t he photos, as a few cases of factory restore has not deleted them.
Nandroid is booting into recovery mode, and making an image of each partition on the phone.
I've owned 5 android phones and 4 tablets, and it's the first thing I do with each device.
Unlock the Bootloader, install custom recovery, and root :)
Check out Clockworkmod or TWRP.
Standard warning, it's a bit advanced and will void your warranty, but it's the best way to fly with android :D
The OnePlus One Toolkit helps make it easier tho :)
(PS. Unlocking the bootloader wipes everything, so best to do it before your use the device too much)
Because they well just give you more grief....
This.
A friend of mine always factors in the amount of what he calls "nervous energy" (stress) he will expend when embarking on an exercise. Sometimes the dollars saved just don't tally up with the nervous energy expended.
I had to send my G2 back to DWI when the battery failed after 2 weeks of use. They told me it was going to take 4 weeks before I'd get the phone back. I contacted the Dept of Fair Trading and they confirmed what I thought, that 4 weeks was excessive.
After several calls to DWI I ended up getting the phone back in about 2 weeks. Lots of nervous energy expended.
I was outside the 2 week refund period so I didn't have a choice.
It looks like you're not ready for a 1+1.
What a load of crap. It's a defective unit! Tinkering is all well and good, but I shouldn't be expected to be FORCED to do it because of a shoddy unit. Saying I'm 'not ready' for a 1+1 just because I want to return it for a completely functioning unit is completely ASININE and INSULTING.
It's a defective unit!
Corvus, you've expended a lot of energy in this thread, just return the unit and hope your replacement phone is more to your liking.

I've already messaged DWI's eBay store, they've asked me to take a screenshot of the problem, so I sent them two screenshots from two different GPS testing apps telling me neither of them can get a fix. I'm currently awaiting their response.
Additionally, I've asked that since they've got a Sydney office, if it'll be possible for me to drive there and replace the unit on the spot.
I'm currently awaiting their response.
Good luck. Hopefully they can replicate the issue but also be prepared for a drawn out prcoess of it being sent back overseas for further testing.
I've asked that since they've got a Sydney office, if it'll be possible for me to drive there and replace the unit on the spot.
They won't let you do this and I doubt they carry local stock either. If they agree to a replacement I would suggest one will need to be sent out from Hong Kong still.
....but also be prepared for a drawn out prcoess of it being sent back overseas for further testing.
They use the AU based Atech for warranty testing.
If they agree to a replacement I would suggest one will need to be sent out from Hong Kong still.
That was the case with my faulty LG G2.
They use the AU based Atech for warranty testing.
If this is the case, then it shouldn't take THAT long, surely.
That was the case with my faulty LG G2.
Considering that they were fairly quick in sending me out my current unit, I would say that the major bottleneck would be the warranty testing procedure.
Can anyone give me a tip on setting up tap and pay with the 1+ One, I've installed the commbank app and noticed that that it's now listed under tap and pay settings.
I tried to put through a payment with it before and no luck. Do I need to set it up via CBA? Any hints would be appreciated
Thanks.
If this is the case, then it shouldn't take THAT long, surely.
Hopefully not, but having said that they originally quoted me 4 weeks to replace a battery on my G2. I found that leaning on them sped things up.
Considering that they were fairly quick in sending me out my current unit, I would say that the major bottleneck would be the warranty testing procedure.
Yeah, you'd think so. The delivery from HK is pretty quick. At least to a capital city it is.
They then hand it over to Aus Post eParcel for delivery to regional centers. Mine arrived in Brisbane at 5.35am last Thursday and I'm still waiting for it to be delivered today. Aaaahhhhh.
Edit: Finally got my phone. No yellow screen is a good start. I'd read the reviews but not until you unpack the device do you really appreciate how well it's packaged.
Flat usb cable is good but it's a bit of a fail imo that the end that plugs into the charger can be plugged in the wrong way round. No biggie but I thought crap like that was a thing of the past.
Display looks good set on "vivid". GPS is the best I've used. It maintains lock indoors like no other phone I've had. Still have to test the call quality and a few other things before I jump in and unlock and root it.
anyone on telstra (prepaid) having the same problem as me?
every now and again data stops working – i dont actually know that it stops because the LTE/H+ indicator still shows, but its only when you visit a website (or wonder why you havent recieved an email/whatsapp for half a day), it takes you to the telstra my account page that says you need to recharge even though i have plenty of credit. a reboot fixes the problem and phone calls (in and out) work.
all was working fine for a couple of months but has happened twice in the last week.
i checked my APN settings and all match up to the telstra site.
38r is being rolled out..
We are happy to announce that the latest OTA update for CM 11S (38R) is slowly rolling out starting today!
This CM 11S 38R release comes with a new firmware that improves the responsiveness of the touchscreen; a new and very cool lockscreen; the ability to take photos in RAW format, enhanced audio capabilities (now the One lets you play high resolution music—24 bit, 96/192khz—flac/alac/wav files without resampling); now that health is that important, we’ve added ANT+ support; and a slew of bug fixes we know you’ve been asking for.
Here’s a comprehensive list of other changes you’ll find in this update:
Added method for users to report bugs directly to Cyanogen.
Added pause button during video recording.
Improved battery life.
Fixed issues with camera exposure compensation stuck in ‘auto’.
Fixed issues with ‘4G Preferred’ option not connecting to 3G data.
Fixed issues with delay in torch activation.
Fixed issues with unresponsive screen requiring reboot.
Fixed issues with static in speaker when changing volume while headset plugged in.
Fixed issues with rotation not triggering when rotated slowly.
Fixed issues with Quiet Hours / system UI causing battery drain on last day of month.
Fixed issues with camera not starting when LED torch is already on.
Fixed issues with Bluetooth volume low on connection.
Let us know what you think once you've tried it!
Haven't hit my phone yet
I don't think I've ever got an OTA, I always flash it manually before it hits.
Just came through on my phone, really curious to see what the battery life is like with this update.
Have to say I think I prefer the old lock screen though, the new one is quite bland.
Think it might be a little early to tell, will update tomorrow after I've had a bit of time to test it out.
Rotation seems to be fixed at least, the phone needs much less persuasion to flip to landscape and back now.

do you have some photos of the screen?
anyone know how to turn off led notification during the night e.g. sleeping hours..
Settings -> sounds -> quiet hours (yes, the led quiet time settings are in there and not in "display and lights").
I'm not sure whether I am going crazy, but touch response seems dramatically improved.
With regard to the raw photos, would they automatically upload to google plus if the auto-backup is turned on?

thx

Blue box is gone completely, it's just a blurred background image now. The default android one is possibly a better option at this point unless there's some way to customise it that I haven't found yet.
Also sometimes slides the wallpaper over a little bit to remind you that the camera is available by wiping. Tried to get a screenshot of that but wasn't overly successful.
With regard to the raw photos, would they automatically upload to google plus if the auto-backup is turned on?
They don't seem to with dropbox/carousel camera upload. The phone doesn't recognise the .dng raw file as a photo so I'm assuming that google plus won't upload it either.
Got mine today. Love the speed of it so far. The design is OK, bit like a galaxy and nothing special. Certainly worth the money though and I am quite happy with this phone.
Its Cyanogenmod that is the big disappointment. Its android with some crap tacked on, like the launchers people hate. I expected it to be very customizable, yet even the most simple things like changing font and icon color are not possible. I suspect quite a lot of the missing features are because of the paid themes. Cyanogenmod isn't exact bad, I just don't understand how people talk like its something transformative. Its very slightly altered android, nothing more.
Still, great phone for the price, and I love the packaging and components, reeks of quality :) I hope for the onePlus.. next they take some design ques off Sony or dare I say it even Apple.
how big are raw files compared to jpg?
16mb compared to 2-5mb. Haven't done a quality comparison at all, I'm assuming that you won't gain a huge amount from shooting jpg.
Ok so since the 38R update is being rolled out, would it be safe to say I have a hardware fault if my GPS still doesn't work after the update?
Will this update incorporate the changes found in the 'nightlies' that people in here were telling me to root and flash with to fix my GPS issues?
Just wanting to know, since if that's true, then there's no point in me rooting it if it still doesn't work after this update.

What the heck?
That is is far from the truth, I don't know if you're using the same phone.
CyanogenMod is the reason I purchased and continue to use this phone over any other Android alternative. It's not a disappointment in any way to me – and if you haven't used Android long enough, you might not recognise the tweaks and mods that make turn Android from "okay" to a "great" OS (I'm talking things like screen off gestures, theme engine, AudioFX equaliser, screen calibration + adaptive backlight and choice of capacitive/on screen nav keys).
The great thing about Android and CyanogenMod is the customisability, if you don't like the "crap launcher that people hate" then change it? Trebuchet is used because it's fast and clean – switch to a different one if you don't like it.
Yes, font and icon colour change isn't as simple as you might want but it's a good trade off given how powerful the theme engine is – being able to mix and match elements from different themes is very good (something other OS's can't do). If you really must have a certain font/colour just make your own font pack and run it alongside any other theme pack you like.
Updates are coming out monthly adding new features and fixing bugs – on that note, the newest OTA fixed my keyboard typing issue completely so I'm a happy camper!
the tweaks and mods that make turn Android from "okay" to a "great"
screen off gestures
That dont really work.
theme engine
Which does nothing I didn't do with stock android, and for free.
AudioFX equaliser
Worse than the Walkman app
screen calibration + adaptive backlight
Ok one thing, but it has worse toggle screen brightness settings, so plus 1 minus 1.
capacitive/on screen nav keys
Oh, like the standard android keys then?

I did, just like with stock android.
fixing bugs
Yeah that is one big thing I noticed. Sooo many bugs. I thought stock android had bugs, omg I hadnt see anything yet.
What the heck?
That is is far from the truth, I don't know if you're using the same phone.
I agree, this phone is the best. Try Mahdi rom any other rom etc its great. Unlock bootloader and warranty still valisd, what else do u need?
@Corvus, mate just Factory reset, itll be all good. If not you already started the return process so send it back!
I've flashed Mahdi rom and want to go back to CM11s. What's the simplest way? Is there a flashable zip of CM11s that when installed will then use OTA updates to upgrade to the latest version?
Edit: solved. http://forum.xda-developers.c
38r link:
Just installed after reading Franco's (kernel) post on Google+
Re-rooted, new nandroid backup done.
Next pls,,,,, <G>
Since 38R my phone keeps waking up in my pocket. I assume it's the double tap to wake and the proximity sensor isn't detecting that the phone is in my pocket.
I've got an armband I put the phone in while running and double-tap to wake never used to work while it was in that and now it does. So it's definitely the proximity sensor not working while the phone is asleep.
That dont really work.
They work fine, was a small issue when the prox sensor wasn't enabled but any recent version of the ROM has it fixed. Double tap on and double tap off has never failed me.
Which does nothing I didn't do with stock android, and for free.
So you could one touch change your icons, fonts, visual theme (notifications menu, pull down shade, system menus), boot animation, lock screen and sound pack?
Some theme packs are free, the really good ones need the purchased and rightly so – no one works for free.
Worse than the Walkman app
Coming from a Z and Z2, the Walkman app is quite good but it doesn't match the AudioFX app which allows equilisation depending on output e.g more bass on Bluetooth but less on speaker.
The Walkman app also doesn't let you change the global eq. What happens if you use Spotify and Pandora? YouTube app?
Oh, like the standard android keys then?
I didn't realise you had a choice between on screen nav keys or more screen space with capacitive keys on any other device?
Yeah that is one big thing I noticed. Sooo many bugs. I thought stock android had bugs, omg I hadnt see anything yet.
I've had this device through 4 over the air updates and the only bugs that I've ever noticed are the previously mentioned gestures and the lockscreen not being able to have independent wallpapers both of which are fixed now.
Since 38R my phone keeps waking up in my pocket. I assume it's the double tap to wake and the proximity sensor isn't detecting that the phone is in my pocket.
Yep, looks like they've disabled the prox sensor again.. Weird.

That's terrible, my phone is constantly waking up in my pocket :(
How did you install the update?

Oh I see what they've done. In the settings -> display menu scroll down to the bottom. Tick and untick the prevent accidental wake-up check box.
Fixed it for me :)
I got my update yesterday night.
New lockscreen is pretty smexy.

That seemed to fix it for me too. Mine was already ticked. I unticked and ticked it and now it works. Cheers :)
New Franco kernel up R34 for R38 bacon update.

What's the usual process/wait time with OTA updates? My OPO (Chinese version) is still reporting no update available. I don't need a sim in it do I as I'm only running it on wifi while waiting for a screen protector/cover to come in.
How did you install the update?
I renamed the zip file to just "38r.zip"
In Command Prompt (Admin), I navigated to the folder where I put the zip, and typed:
adb sideload 38r.zip
, while inside Philz Touch recovery, adb sideload mode.
adb needs to be installed on your PC ...
CyanogenMod is the reason I purchased and continue to use this phone over any other Android alternative.
Quick settings tiles – allowing you to set single tap of wifi icon to be a toggle instead of taking you to wifi settings. That is my #1 reason for preferring custom roms (or xposed) over stock android. There's a bunch of other good stuff too (eg: I hear cursor movement arrows on the keyboard are coming in R38?), but the wifi toggle is my #1.
I'm using Chomp SMS the same as on several previous phones and the APN settings are the same Telstra settings that are automatically allocated but MMS won't send.
There are 2 APNs set.... Telstra Internet and Telsta MMS and all settings within them are exactly the same as my Note 2 that has no problem sending MMS.
Any ideas?
I accidentally started recording the screen when trying to take a screenshot. Record is Power + Volume Up, screenshot is Power + Volume Down. I can't get the damn thing to stop. I clicked the stop button in the notification drawer and it still has a timer going up with the option to share. I swipe away the notification and it keeps coming back with the timer going. I ended up having to reboot
MMS can be painful.
Tell me about it. I've never been able to figure why a sms app will work flawlessly on one rom and then fail to send mms on another rom.
Have you tried another SMS program like Textra to see if it works?
I'm going to have a mess around with it now. I'll try the stock app first then Textra. For several reasons I really like Chomp though.
I accidentally started recording the screen when trying to take a screenshot. Record is Power + Volume Up, screenshot is Power + Volume Down. I can't get the damn thing to stop.
The app is called screencast. Next time try open the app and see if that works.

or press and hold the notification until the 'app info' button appears, click it, then force stop.
Been using the phone for a couple of weeks now. Absolutely love it. I have the international 64gig version. Everything is super snappy and fast. The camera is great. I went on holiday with the family and took several hundred shots with it with hardly a bad photo!
I moved from an iPhone 4s and was worried the screen would be too big. Nope! I now cannot go back to a smaller screen. I have almost stopped using my iPad at home simply because web browsing on a 5.5" is actually doable!
One complaint and its the fact the screen doesn't quite 'pop' in comparison to an iPhone 6Plus – but that is about another $700 on top of this so you can forget that!
Im running some custom launchers and the like – currently on Nova launcher just because of all the additional stuff you can do. I really like it. All in all, crazy value for a new phone and I can't really see myself ever spending much more on a new phone ever again.
Is there anyone who is running 38R and using Telstra that definitely has mms sending working ok?
If so, do you have the automatically allocated APNs or have you changed something? I can't get mms to work irrespective of which sms app I use including the stock Messaging app. :(
I'm using Chomp SMS the same as on several previous phones and the APN settings are the same Telstra settings that are automatically allocated but MMS won't send.
Any ideas?
Im using stock app and couldn't retrieve MMS or send. Changed settings to auto open and then it worked.
On 33R Telstra prepaid
I've international 1+ on33R using helstra prepaid. Any ideas when I could expect the update?
This is only a guess, but I think it has a bit to do with when you got the phone and then got updates for it. Meaning the longer you have had the phone the sooner you will get the update. Time will tell if I am right or not. Don't hold me to it though.we will see , I guess.
Changed settings to auto open...
Do you mean "auto retrieve" in the settings of the stock Messaging app? Mine is ticked by default.

I have NEVER understood why all phone keyboards dont have cursor movement arrows as a stock standard feature ....
i have been using ai.type keyboard (download from the playstore) as my stock keyboard almost from the first day that i changed to an android phone because it has cursor movement arrows plus many other features that i like and use a lot > there is nothing worse than trying to position that tiny little blinking cursor thing on a specific space with fingers ... i always found it very hit and miss
> https://play.google.com/store
There is a 14 day trial version ... i bought the full version within the first 30 minutes ... i have been using the app for a very long time now and it has always woked flawlessly for me ... its features should be standard in my opinion.
cheers
try unticking and then reticking. Might do the trick for you..
Thanks. I gave that a shot but still no mms getting sent. Deleted all the APNs and then let them all automatically reconfigure for Telstra Mobile. STILL no mms getting sent. It's starting to get tiring.
I'm tempted to Nandroid this CM11s installation and then restore a Nandroid of a clean install of Mahdi rom that I have and see if mms will send from it. I'm quickly running out of ideas. It shouldn't be this hard. :(
I have the Chinese version of OPO and have 33R installed, but not receiving the 38R updates OTA
anyone else got the Chinese version and not getting any updates yet?
I have NEVER understood why all phone keyboards dont have cursor movement arrows as a stock standard feature ....
As you know ai has the option for them and so does Swiftkey but I prefer to enable them on the Nav Bar where they don't take up any extra vertical space.
there is nothing worse than trying to position that tiny little blinking cursor thing on a specific space with fingers ... i always found it very hit and miss

anyone else got the Chinese version and not getting any updates yet?
Are you unlocked and rooted? If so you can download it and flash.
but I prefer to enable them on the Nav Bar where they don't take up any extra vertical space.
how do you do that Lotan? ... how does it work?
I am with locked boot and not rooted and still I have downloaded and flashed on 33R. So that is not essential to be unlocked and rooted.
how do you do that Lotan? ... how does it work?
In the Nav Bar settings.... "Arrow keys while typing".
Has anyone found a way to stick a custom button (Screen Off) on the Nav Bar with the stock rom? I know it can be done with roms like Mahdi.
Unreal writes...

I bought it from DWI and they have pre installed CM, so i think its rooted
if the flash fail do i lose my data on my phone?
sorry for noob question
thought all updates suppose to come OTA anyway
Thanks
I bought it from DWI and they have pre installed CM, so i think its rooted
Not sure. I didn't check mine. I just used a tool to unlock and root.
if the flash fail do i lose my data on my phone?
Somebody smarter than me probably needs to answer that one.
thought all updates suppose to come OTA anyway
That's my understanding but seeing it was available I flashed it.
anyone else got the Chinese version and not getting any updates yet?
I have the Chinese version, flashed to CM11s 33R, and I have still not gotten the CM11s OTA update. Don't panic, they usually roll out over days if not weeks.
If I don't have it by the weekend I'll probably just manually flash it.

I use the free Hackers Keyboard (which probably puts me on some NSA list) for when I am SSH-ing somewhere, as it has 4-direction arrow keys, as well as ctrl, alt and tab. All very handy on a linux command line.
But day to day I like the Google Keyboard (with it's swiping). I just wish it had left-right arrow keys too. Not sure how (if) the CM arrow keys will work if I am not using on-screen nav bar.
Not sure if this has been answered already but are the OPO Bamboo version on aliexpress legit and available?
I understand that the styleswao covers have been canceled but how about the stock ones that is built with the phone?
How can I stop the screen lighting up when an sms arrives and/or stop it showing the contents of the sms on the lockscreen?
I bought it from DWI and they have pre installed CM, so i think its rooted
Same and of course I didn't think of that, I rooted and unlocked my current HTC One X a couple of years ago so haven't had to think about it since.
With that phone, I just dropped update files, roms etc. onto the internal storage, booted into bootloader (recovery?) mode and flashed/updated from there, is that what I do with the 38r update file now?
When I try to update to the latest update on my OPO phone from OTA, it rebooted and it stucks at the One Plus One logo screen Powered by Android for a long time.
How can I stop the screen lighting up when an sms arrives and/or stop it showing the contents of the sms on the lockscreen?
settings -> lockscreen -> customise lockscreen
or maybe
settings -> notifications -> heads up
or maybe somewhere in the settings of your messaging app? Are you using Messages or Hangouts? Maybe switching from one to the other might help with your MMS issue, too.
Found out that I had Update CM Recovery disabled in Develop Options. It did update after turning it back on.
settings -> lockscreen -> customise lockscreen
That got rid of it.
Are you using Messages or Hangouts?
Messages. I'll try Hangouts for the exercise but I really want to be using Chomp if possible. At the moment mms won't work on Messages, Chomp, Textra or Handcent.
It has to be some weird issue that maybe has something to do with the APN settings even though I've tried a heap of different settings I've found online as well as the ones that work on my Note 2. PITA

Edit – yep, sure did, piece of cake :)

Tried it but no luck as the servers must be getting hammered.
Though I was the lucky 100000 visitor and won a prize.

Mediafire mirror worked for me.
Having said that, phone has rebooted and immediately getting some scrolling issues, ie I'll scroll through menus and the bottom 0.5cm of the screen appears stuck, then unsticks, something is not right...
Small update on battery life with 38r –
Currently sitting on 71% after 11 hours on battery, with 1h27m screen on time. Wifi/LTE/bluetooth all on, with ~2 hours of music listening thrown in during the day.
Hard to tell since the screen-on time is fairly low compared to a normal day, but I'd say it is an improvement over 34 but not as drastic as some posts elsewhere have suggested.
Whelp, at first I thought the update fixed my GPS issues. Didn't drop out for almost 24 hours.... Almost.
Now it's disabled itself again.
Back to DWI it goes!
They'd better not screw me around. I will raise hell and high water if they dare.
Successfully updated my 16GB from DWI last night. Note that my phone was not rooted.
Simply followed this:
0. Make sure you are currently on stock 33R firmware
1. Download: http://forum.xda-developers.c
2. Turn off phone
3. Hold Power + Vol down
4. Select Update
5. Navigate to the download folder and find the following file: cm-bacon-3628510d76-to-ac1ccf7921-signed.zip
6. Wait

Did a few ookla speed tests 3 different locations different times. In Perth
Varies 12.6 – 13.6 Mbps no peaks.
My Telstra frontier same places times of day but a few months ago would easily sit on 25Mbps and peak higher.
Using same account both pH's transfered old one onto blank microsim.
OPO says its using LTE.
Any ideas if I need to change something on my OPO, call Telstra or is it just congestion from everyone jumping ship from Vodafail?
Currently downloading 38R could b a while, any idea if it will help?

ai type keyboard has up down left and right direction arrows in several places, as well as undo, cut, copy, paste, redo, select all, selection off, home, end etc buttons. It also does the swype thing, which is the main method that I use as I can't stand tapping buttons. It also has an integrated google voice button for speech to text typing which works pretty well.
But one of the main reasons that I started using ai.type keyboard was because of the ability to make the keyboard expand or contract up or down the available screen space with just a slide of the finger. With other keyboards I often found that the top part of the keyboard covered part of the screen that I was trying to type on or trying to read. With ai.type keyboard I can just slide the top of the keyboard up or down to make it bigger or smaller… its a pretty handy feature
I also find ai type keyboards text prediction and corrections methods the best of all the keyboards that I have tried, but that may just be because I have been using out for so long.
I don't think it does alt tab etc, although it does have a fantastic "shortcuts" function which I use a lot do that I don't have to type out names, addresses, email addresses etc in full… and it works really well, maybe that function can be used for the alt tab etc stuff?
In the Nav Bar settings.... "Arrow keys while typing".
Sorry to be a pain, but I can't find that setting anywhere… altho I did find a setting under buttons to use the volume up and down buttons to move the cursor left and right
Sorry to be a pain, but I can't find that setting anywhere…
Yeah. There's a ton of settings. Go to Settings/Buttons(under Device)/Arrow Keys While Typing(under Navigation Bar)
I'm getting intermittent shimmer when shooting video. Also if I have the camera focus set to "continuous focus" when I shoot video with a suject that is only moving slightly, for instance a person's head movments while speaking, or if I'm moving the camera around a scene, the video is trying to refocus every 5 seconds or so when this isn't necessary.
Anyone else seeing this?

Any idea what I'm doing wrong

Multi touch issue still exists while Adaptive Backlight is enabled.
Having said that, phone has rebooted and immediately getting some scrolling issues, ie I'll scroll through menus and the bottom 0.5cm of the screen appears stuck, then unsticks, something is not right...
Hmmm, ok so touch/scrolling issue still there, even after a factory reset!??! Every time I touch the screen it jumps all over the place. What to do now??

Download might be corrupted. Try downloading it again.
The plot thickens with my mms saga. After trying a million different APN settings including the automatically configured ones I ran out of ideas on how to get mms working. I figure it should at least work with the stock app. It wouldn't work with that or Chomp, Handcent or Textra.
I did a Nandroid backup and restored a backup of a clean install of Mahdi that I'd done yesterday. With the automatically configured APN settings which are exactly the same as those in CM11S 38R I'm able to send and receive mms with the stock app and Textra. Chomp still doesn't work but I've found it to be temperamental with mms in the past.
The common denominator is CM11S. Not impressed.
So when should I expect this update to appear on my phone as an OTA update? Also I've been seeing a bit more battery usage during the day? Anyone else seeing the same thing?
Hmmm, ok so touch/scrolling issue still there, even after a factory reset!??! Every time I touch the screen it jumps all over the place. What to do now??
Nothing can be done. Just disable adaptive backlight & it's kinda OK.
So when should I expect this update to appear on my phone as an OTA update?
No one knows. Could be up to a few weeks.

Between the screen/menus jumping all over the place I managed to do that and still no luck. Restarted and the same. Another factory reset, re-downloaded 38r and flashed again, exact same issue, screen jumping all over the place.
Flashed 33r back and all back to normal. So this is very weird as I'm trawling OPO forums and finding it hard to find others describing this same issue!

Yes that's a strange one. Thankfully mine doesn't show this problem.

I remember seeing radio being updated in 38r. Try flashing the radio from 33r (not sure if this is safe to do).

I'm back on Mahdi now. I'll see how it goes.
This phone is a mile better than my old phone. So many issues I thought were different things were actually my phone. All of a sudden chrome does not reload the page when I go back to it. I thought this was an OS level thing, but maybe I was just always out of ram or something, who knows but I love just being able to go back to a web page without suffering a reload.
And my network responsiveness has shot up. I always thought the mobile network was slow to the point of unusable. Good for sending message but little else. But now its snappy, like I am on a different network all together.
The GPS also, not perfect but usually much quicker.
Of course these things would probably be the same on any similar spec phone, but I am very happy with my OnePlus One.
Im on stock 33R and my device (international US model) cant see any updates yet
why would it take a few weeks to get pushed out if already available?
Think ill just do it manually then. multi touch being a PAIN
Im on stock 33R and my device ... cant see any updates yet
Same here... don't know what version mine is though. Purchased from Cam Paradise.
why would it take a few weeks to get pushed out if already available?
Very simple reason. Oneplus is not big like apple that they can support huge bandwidth to roll out firmware update sized as 207mb worldwide at once for all the users. They simply don't have money or backbone or infra structure for this.
Why do ppl prefer NOT to use the hard coded menu, home, return buttons…
I tried switching off the hard ones via settings and using the on screen ones but they just reduce the available amount of screen space… otherwise I don't see much difference
Have I missed something?
Have I missed something?
For me it's personal preference. I've always preferred on screen buttons. Plus with the on screen nav bar you can add more buttons. If you are using a custom rom there are even more options for button configuration.

Not even Google roll nexus updates out to everyone at the same time. Look what happened with ios8 updates making devices unable to use ¾g. You want a slow initial rollout with incrementally increasing coverage so that if there's an unexpected issue you can halt the rollout and you haven't ruined your entire customer base.
I know Corvus was having GPS issues. Anyone else had issues with their GPS? I used mine in earnest for the first time this morning. Prior to that I'd turned it on a few times and was impressed by the way it acquires a lock indoors where previous phones wouldn't.
This morning I used it in conjunction with Endomondo when I went for a run. On returning home Endomondo had recorded the first 100 metres and then the GPS must have dropped off. I opened up GPS Test and it couldn't see any satellites until I rebooted the phone. Perhaps this is a once of but I'm very doubtful of that given the experience that Corvus has had.
I'm running Mahdi rom which shouldn't be causing this. I've never had any GPS flakyness on my Note 2 despite running more custom roms than I can remember. The reason I'm using Mahdi is because despite spending hours yesterday pissing around with APN settings I couldn't get mms to work on CM11s. It works fine on Mahdi.
I'm going to give the GPS a good workout in the next couple of days. Any more issues with it and it's return for refund time and I'll move on. :(
Any more issues with it and it's return for refund time and I'll move on. :(
I've already logged an RMA (replacement) request with DWI for mine. It's gotten really bad. Sometimes I even need to reboot it three times in a row to get any GPS activity at all.
EDIT: My brother's works fine on the other hand. Continuous GPS signal.
At this stage, I don't want a refund only because I bought it so cheap, and there's no other Android phone I'm pretty much interested in. The Nexus 6 (if the renders are accurate) looks way too rounded and plasticky for my tastes.
I opened up GPS Test and it couldn't see any satellites until I rebooted the phone
Sounds like we have a like recurring pattern.
I haven't used the GPS extensively. The only time I was using google maps navigation for about 20-30 mins in the car, but didn't notice any signal drop. I'll test it on the way home later today and report here.
Edit: hmm... http://forum.xda-developers.c

The problem is (at least for me) is that it never loses signal while it's actively being used. Eg, I could leave Google Maps navigation on for an hour and it won't miss a beat.
However once I leave the phone locked for an hour or so, GPS is completely disabled and doesn't even pick up any satellites until I reboot.
If you want to test yours, download the app "GPS test" and open it periodically to see how fast it gets "3D Lock".
EDIT: Unlike the link you posted, my phone doesn't get any lock, even if I turn all mobile data off.

Is your phone on 3G or LTE when it occurs?
How about Wifi?
I am in the office and have Wifi connection. According to the other ppl (XDA thread above), this problem is not reproducible on 2G or LTE but only on 3G.
So I guess one reason I have never seen the problem is because I am on LTE.
Is your phone on 3G or LTE when it occurs?
It's impossible to tell even WHEN it occurs, since I'm not aware until I go to manually check it.

How do you selectively disable 3G anyway? All I know is that I've tried turning all mobile data off and still no GPS signal.
Ok. So GPS Test got "3D fix" on my phone after ~1minute. Inside a multi storey building and not close to window.
My phone has never been rebooted in the last 11 hours.
Turning off Wifi now and leave it on LTE. Will try GPS Test again in a few hours.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll decide today but I think I'm just going to return it. I like the phone but I need consistency and reliability. Aside from the GPS issue, I have the already mentioned the mms issue on the stock rom and I've already posted about issues I'm having with the camera when shooting video.
The camera issue by itself I could live with and use a third party camera app. Same with the mms issue, I'd continue to use Mahdi rom to get around that. But stacking the GPS issue on top of them is probably too much to look past.
I know no phone is perfect and I'm no Sammy fanboi but my 2 year old Note 2 has been rock solid and reliable. If I get rid of the OPO I'll go back to using the Note and see what the new Nexus specs are when released on the 16th. I'd love to buy a G3 for the camera but the phone has too many other issues from what I can tell.

Yeah if the device isn't performing to your needs than that's just the way it's gotta be. Strange that my device is perfect and reliable and some others have so many issues – I think it comes down to the QA they put the phones through once they've been built.
Installed the OTA update an hour ago, all went smoothly but when booting into Android I see this awesome message:
Unfortunately CM Lockscreen has stopped
Hit ok, a second later the same message shows up, over and over. Restarted, same thing. Screen off and on, same. I can get maybe one screen tap in before the message shows and I have to dismiss it again.
I thought I'd try and disable the CM Lockscreen, I can get into Settings but any interaction with the Settings screen is impossible. The Settings screen is viewable but doesn't respond to scrolling or tapping.
This wasn't a manual update, it was the standard auto update, what worries me is I'm not seeing other reports here so looks like I'm lucky enough to be one of the few with this problem. Googling what I can at the moment, yay I can't use my phone :/
Weird, it briefly worked for some reason, no idea why. Anyway it was short lived, after about a minute I'm back to the same 'CM Lockscreen' error. If for whatever reason it randomly starts working I'll get into settings ASAP and try to select a different lock screen.
The good news is I managed to submit a bug report for the error so hopefully someone receives it.
what worries me is I'm not seeing other reports here so looks like I'm lucky enough to be one of the few with this problem.
While I was researching my 38r issue yesterday I came across quite a few who had reported lockscreen problems with the update so you aren't alone.
I'm a long time Android user but new to CM and I'm surprised by what seem to be the large number of bugs people experience after an update and their apparent randomness in who they affect, across the same devices.
I spent hours last night trying to sort out my 'touch screen goes crazy with 38r' issue but no luck, tried different ways of updating, even a new full stock rom someone had made on the XDA forums using 38r but basically every single time I load 38r on, I get the screen issues. Load 33r back on and no issues. Highly annoying!
I'm able to access the Power + Volume Down rescue interface where I have the install update option, could I download an earlier release and 'update' to that? What would be the right place to get the version?
could I download an earlier release and 'update' to that?
Yes you can do that, I have. 33r image could possibly already be on your internal storage, it was on mine but that was because DWI had flashed CM on it before sending out.
What would be the right place to get the version?
Stock 33r available here – http://forum.xda-developers.c
What directory was the image in? I'm guessing it won't be present on my phone but worth a shot. Of course now that I've downloaded the older image and am trying to copy the image to my phones internal storage I get the Windows message:
Cannot copy item – The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected
I can navigate around the storage device on Windows and view all the directories but it won't let me copy any files across :/
Load 33r back on and no issues.
When you did this – was it a restore from nandroid backup in twrp or fastboot?
If yours a chinese version, your seller might have used the 'dirty' 33R image (the zip file that is now removed by CM).
What directory was the image in?
Mine was just plonked in the root of the internal storage by DWI.
I can navigate around the storage device on Windows and view all the directories but it won't let me copy any files across
Bah, bugger. Have you tried playing around with any USB connection settings or enabled developer options, USB debugging etc?
When you did this – was it a restore from nandroid backup in twrp or fastboot?
It was from the 33r image left on the phone, did it through recovery.
If yours a chinese version, your seller might have used the 'dirty' 33R image (the zip file that is now removed by CM).
Yes I'm on a Chinese version, not sure what type of image it was. Having said that in my mucking around last night I somehow managed to delete it. I've just installed the stock 33r rom from the XDA forums link I posted above and all appears well. Annoying the hell out of me I can't get 38r working properly though.
Ok if updating now to 38r still end up being problematic then maybe do
fastboot format system
fastboot format boot
Then flash the full 33r in fastboot mode, and finally 38r
I think this whole one plus one experience will humble the CM guys esp Steve K. a little bit as they now know how it feels like to support their own device.
Mine was just plonked in the root of the internal storage by DWI.
Yep no image there on my phone, not surprising as this One was bought directly from OnePlus.
Bah, bugger. Have you tried playing around with any USB connection settings or enabled developer options, USB debugging etc?
Not sure if they're enabled but I can't make any changes to them anyway as I can't access the menu's in Settings.
I found an identical issue logged on Cyanogenmod JIRA, I've posted there and let them know about the submitted bug report. A developer was quick to respond and mentioned the matching bug report has been located, not sure where things go from here tho or how long. I think I'll need to go back to my old phone.
If I manage to run the update through recovery either from internal storage or ADB will I lose data? I've tried an ADB sideload, the .zip is transferred to the One and starts to update but fails with:
E:footer is wrong
E:signature verification failed
I'm tempted to look further into forcing it to install but now I'm worried about losing data.
I'm tempted to look further into forcing it to install but now I'm worried about losing data.
Did u have a custom theme?
If you are comfortable messing around with the phone, then google kondik usb drivers for nexus and install them as a system admin on your windows pc. May be the usb drivers are not installed correctly, but you def need these drivers for the next step.
then try this toggle that I did to unlock bootloader in the xda link. Although your issue is different to mine, it may save your data, but be ready to loose everything and read up everything before you jump in.
sorry forgot the links

Hi
How/Should we root this phone before we update to 38R?
Anyone got a good guide?
when we root it, do we lose the data/photos etc..
Hey guys two questions, is anyone able to get a 4g connection on the vodafone 1800 frequency? both the band and frequency is correct, but it will only connect to the 3g network.
Also, Is anybody having problems with wifi connection? I am getting problems connecting with my home network (DNS error). The wifi symbol goes orange. The status of the connection states that it is connected, but I cannot connect to the internet.
How/Should we root this phone before we update to 38R?
Think I will too. Just becuase others seem to be having issues with 38R and after root we can use nandroid backups/titanium backups which I will use as my recoveyr back to stock 33R should there be any issues (rather than flashing stock 33R) – if I recall correctly from my old android/htc days nandroid/titanium would allow for a full system restore of settings/apps/data
Anyone got a good guide?
The wiki link on here seems to have a good guide on xda. here it is:

when we root it, do we lose the data/photos etc..
Yes

Ah ok, thanks, wasnt aware some already had it over OTA, thought everyone was doing it manually.
edit – after manually checking for update (i thought it would auto check) it found it :) XNPH38R
Question now, Can i root phone (cust recovery/unlock bootloader/flash supersu) and then full backup, then apply the OTA incremental patch?
Yes. The buttons are arranged the wrong way, onePlus screwed up so if you want the buttons in the correct android order you must use on screen buttons.
Edit:.. Forgot to check the quote. Was responding to guy asking about using the on screen buttons..
I ended up returning my OPO for a refund after a month, because of the yellow screen thing. Also, it was a bit too much phone, size wise, just personal preference. Otherwise, excellent device, really can't be beaten in bang for buck, or even outright. It's a tinkerer's dream. But I'm back to my Nexus 5 while I suss out what else is on the market. I still read OPO forums out of interest.
Anyway, back on topic, as for GPS issues some have been having, my best guess is the issues people are having are software/driver related, since it appears to be intermittent. My phone came with ColorOS (Chinese version), not CM11, so I immediately blasted that away and unlocked the bootloader to flash CM11 on.
On CM11 at first, I did have various small issues with multi-touch, bluetooth and some occasional GPS problems. The GPS issues were self-inflicted (I was messing with gps.conf and also accidentally disabled the com.qualcomm.location service), the rest were completely resolved with later nightlies and also AK kernel (Franco's was not stable for me), which is the other half of the equation.
Development on everything was and is still happening at what appears to be a very fast pace. I found the nightly builds to be incredibly stable, there was no point running the snapshots or CM11S, which lagged behind. For comparison, the recently added 'Sunlight Readibility' feature in yesterday's 11S has been in 11 for around 3-4 weeks or more, IIRC.
It took a fair bit of tinkering to get it all working in the end, but it was definitely working flawlessly, finally. Bit of a shame I had to return it. Being that it's hilariously easy to unlock this phone and flash it, as well as relock it if required, it's probably one of the best to tinker with, just like Nexus, except without design flaws. I knew this going on of course, if I wanted a no fuss phone, I would have paid double and bought a Note or iPhone, where I can walk to a store and swap it or get tech support.
As to why other ROMs like Mahdi might also have this issue, I'm not sure, but if I'm not mistaken, Mahdi is built directly from AOSP, not CM-derived sources, correct? My best guess is that the CM nightlies receive the latest driver updates and tweaks for this hardware. Mahdi might not even get the required fixes at all if there's no backports available? I'd say safest best is to stick to CM derived ROMs, for this phone anyway, IMO.
The camera's 'Clear Image' mode is the only feature of the OPO that I miss. It takes some very good low light shots (combines 10 photos to 1).
- The relevant GPS bug is here – https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-115. General consensus on forums is that it alleviates the issue for some, but problem still exists – bug is still marked as unresolved.
- Note that CM uses it's own kernel based on CAF – see here – https://www.codeaurora.org/pr
ojects/all-active-projects/linux-msm
Question now, Can i root phone (cust recovery/unlock bootloader/flash supersu) and then full backup, then apply the OTA incremental patch?
Unlocking the bootloader will force a factory reset unfortunately. Best to backup everything completely first, then restore it afterward. I would recommend people to unlock bootloader first thing when they get the phone, then they don't have to worry about losing anything later.
Unlocking the bootloader will not affect the device getting OTA updates. You'll still get updates when they come out.
Also a good idea to backup your EFS partition just in case as well. And a tip if later on you want to sell or return your OPO, make sure to reset the tamper/flash bits to 0, since they will have been triggered, fairly easy though.
Hi madhatter
Thanks for reply and found your comments interesting :)
Am aware will lose data only had phone for less than week no real data apart from pics will backup.
I was more interested in using nandroid/titanium backup as a means to come back to stock 33R (rooted) if issues with 38R
Nice to know I can still ota upgrade to 38R after boatloader unlock/cost rec/root. Cheers
I ended up returning my OPO for a refund after a month, because of the yellow screen thing
How did you do it? Refund period is only 14 days, and I read opo were rejecting warranty claim based on yellow screen.
Also how did you send it back? Dhl?

I guess I must be a lucky guy then.
I sent it back in an Auspost satchel. Have you tried the UV / heatgun thing to fix yours?
If anybody wants a Diztronic and/or Nillkin case for OPO, drop me a message. Free, just cover postage.

No... Never trusted that bit. If it was glue it would have hardened anyway after so long. I just use Franco rgb/kcal control to lessen the yellow band
Some news from the OnePlus Forum, they've finally acknowledged that there are problems...
"Hi everyone,
In regards to the touch panel issues- we have seen your concerns and would like to address that this is a priority we’ve been working with Synaptics to continually fix and improve.
This issue affects user experience and is thus a major focus for our project team. However, because the touchscreen firmware is built by Synaptics, our hands are mostly tied in releasing real time fixes. Touch screen tuning has been a step by step process. Synaptics sends out new firmware, OnePlus gives feedback, and Synaptics provides fixes based on our feedback.
With the 38R update, the newest firmware we received from Synaptics has been implemented. This firmware fixes the major issues most people have been encountering. But some are still experiencing touchscreen irregularities. We’ve also observed these in our offices, but Synaptics was unavailable to further calibrate the firmware for us due to holidays. Please trust that we are doing everything we can to alleviate these lingering bugs. We will immediately notify you when new firmware is in place. Thank you for your patience."

The camera's 'Clear Image' mode is the only feature of the OPO that I miss. It takes some very good low light shots (combines 10 photos to 1).
What is this "clear image mode" you speak of?
I cannot find it and my OPO takes terrible low light photos, actually it takes terrible photos unless its very bright light. Even my kids have commented on the shity camera.
What is this "clear image mode" you speak of?
When you have the camera open swipe down from the middle and it'll change through varying presets. One is clear image.
Low light with a sensor this small is always going to he difficult. In order to get a decent low light image you'll need to compromise between shutter speed and ISO. Typically a person can only keep a camera steady to .8 sec shutter speed. Low light often requires more exposure. You can up the ISO (stock goes to 1600) but the higher you go the more grainy the image will be. Consider playing with both of those settings until something works.
Ideally you'd have a very long shutter speed with very low iso. Which would require the phone remain stable in one position (I.e. a mount).

Thanks did that and camera improved marginaly.
Then the panic set in the zoom was all erratic. Went to a web page touchscreen was all erratic and crazy.
Back to camera changed settings still crazy touchscreen.
Reboot all OK again. For now?

Are you on 38r? Probably getting the touch issues many are reporting.
Is it just me or was the music/audio quality better before the latest update? :S
The sound clarity was definitely better on 33R compared to 38R, what the hell! These new audio codecs are crap.
Thanks did that and camera improved marginaly.
Hmm apart from extremely low light, my onePlus takes pretty good photos – so much so that my gf keeps taking my phone to take pics of food and selfies rather using her z2.
I found the camera to be complete crap. The hardware is capable of decent images but the software sux. If you are interested in experimenting download the free versions of Camera FV-5 and Cinema FV-5 from Play. The free versions have limited resolution available.
I've purchased the paid versions and am getting much better results than I was with the stock camera.

Interesting.. the "clear image" feature in CM11S camera was talked abt so much and got very positive reviews
If it comes down to it I guess I'll give it a go, at this stage I'm hoping the Cyanogenmod JIRA issue raised will have a good outcome. If an update is pushed out hopefully I'll be able to activate the update process, tho I'm quite worried about this as only some items on the screen can be selected.
Rocking it on my old Samsung Galaxy Nexus for the time being, it feels tiny and its slow...
EDIT – no custom theme, using the phones defaults but I changed the desktop background, nothing else.
so much so that my gf keeps taking my phone to take pics of food and selfies rather using her z2.
wow. my gf has a z2 as well, and the photos (with the main camera, not the selfie camera) are pretty impressive. I'd say my oneplus is pretty close though.
For people complaining about the quality, I have two tips.
1) Settings – set quality to 100%
2) check to make sure a tiny piece of fluff hasn't lodged in the lens surround. I got a few iffy photos until I noticed that there was a tiny cat hair or something caught in the edge, protruding out over the lens. You couldn't see it in the photos, but it must have messed up the auto focus or light meter or something.
Also check for fingerprints on the lens. :)
if you're still getting shoddy photos, it could be the old inconsistent QA bugbear that's been plaguing these phones :(
Is there a simple way to decrease the size of the app icons on the home screen? I've played around with a few different icon sets, as well as the grid size, but they all look a bit big and 'out there' to me, I'd rather a bit smaller and subtle.

probably want to change to a more customisable launcher. Not sure if trebuchet (the default in CM11) lets you resize icons.
other launchers let you define the number of icons X by Y in the grid, so obviously setting more icons will mean they'll be smaller to fit.
Nova launcher and Apex launcher are ones I hear about a lot. I just use Google Now Launcher instead as I like the swipe-from-left to get to google now.

Im using nova launcher and that lets you make them as small or big as you want. Mine sites at about 80%. Feels really nice.
In Trebuchet menu, set Larger Icons: Off.
If not small enough then you'll need another launcher like Nova
Yeah, ran Nova on my HTC One X so I'll load that on my OPO as well. Thought there may have been a standard CM setting somewhere but happy to change the launcher.
Is it possible to get a custom rom that uses nova launcher as it's "inbuilt" launcher..
Alternatively, is it possible to remove the inbuilt launcher on a custom rom and replace it with nova inside the actual rom?
The wife wants to use nova launcher on her one plus because of it's ability to have the little notification badges show up in the corner of the actual app (like on the apple iphone)
Personally I hate those badges and always turn them off, but it's one feature from the iphone that she seems to miss (other than the game "beetle lines")
she is getting a bit confused when the phone sometimes asks whether to use nova or the CM11 inbuilt launcher (trebachet?) which doesn't seem to have this feature
Other than that, she has really started to enjoy the phone – and is even starting to appreciate the ability to (almost) customize the phone to your hearts content :)
Is it possible to get a custom rom that uses nova launcher as it's "inbuilt" launcher..
SLIM uses Nova and is an excellent ROM. I've used it on multiple devices.
Apex launcher also has the option you're after.
Cheers,

When is it asking that? I've never seen that before. When the phone is told to "always" use a specific launcher in my experience it doesn't ask again.

Thanks… that's excellent information
Sorry Lotan ..I don't know how to double quote… I use nova as well and I sometimes, but very rarely get that option since the first time that I hit the "always" button… but for some strange reason she seems to get it quite often… as in at least once a day. . and it's really bugging her .. so I thought that removing the option to choose might make it less confusing for her
I have checked all the settings and they seem to be the same as mine, so l have no idea why she is the "lucky one"… probably user error rather than the fault of the software… lol… hope she never read this :)
Hmm, just went to wake my phone and it wouldn't come on. Turns out it had turned itself off because when I held the power button down for a few seconds it started booting.
Also, someone just sent me an MMS and it sits there saying downloading and then fails to download. I think this is the first time anyone has sent me one.

Are you with Telstra and are you using the stock sms app?
Good article on how to solve most problems that people experience with the OPO. http://www.androidauthority.c
Although I don't experience these problems and I am still on 33r.

Not sure it's a good article, some of the "solutions" are bizarre.

Hey. Thats very good to know. Do you have a custom recovery like TWRP. Might be an idea to jump on nightlies! !
Since updating to 38r, I have noticed that my phone now wakes in my pocket. It never once happened on 33r.
Also, the torch comes on a lot more readily... often during the day.
Thinking of rolling back to 33r.

As I mentioned previously in this thread, they disabled the proximity sensor default for some reason.
To fix this, just head to the settings menu -> display menu scroll down to the bottom. Tick and untick the prevent accidental wake-up check box.
I cannot get over how good the battery life on this phone! Have only had it since Thursday and charged it that night.
Restored most my stuff from my S3 as well as updating to 38 and have about 3hrs screen time and 1.5 talk time 28hrs without charge and its sittting at 30% now.
My S3 had a 4000mah battery and would only last a day of same usage.

I know, I've had the phone for 3 months and still feel the same. Battery life + CM are the killer features for me :)
I left my phone on over the long weekend without charging between Friday morning and Monday night, and only used it occasionally. Maybe 2 hours SOT all up.
It does check several email accounts, as well as update checks, etc.
By Monday night, the phone was down to 74%. Insane stuff, considering the battery powers such a large screen, and high-spec'ed innards.
I think the settings in the Franco kernel really make a difference.
for those people who have had this phone for months now, how has it been?
have you come across any hardware issues? etc
chum
I'm assuming you can't send mms either?
I never tried, but it turns out my mobile data wasn't working. I was on wifi at home so didn't realise. It wasn't until I went out this morning and my internet wasn't working that I noticed. I rebooted the phone and it was ok.
I'm having lots of issues since this new update.
I was using google maps to help me get somewhere earlier, it was working fine. Then I tried to use it to get home and I couldn't get GPS signal in any app.
Also, I'm seeing horizontal lines randomly, like some gfx driver glitch. Never saw this in the 3 months I've had the phone prior.
On 38r for a few days now. No new problems exceptb that touch screen still isn't 100%. Its an improvement over 33r.
I don't experience any other issue ppl are reporting. Maybe I'm just lucky. If anyone wants me to do some tests/extract config to compare etc. just let me on e
Does this phone have an option or maybe an xposed mod to not change an sms to mms like I had with my htc one m7 using the tool kit
you can install Xposed on it if you root it. Check the xposed modules site to see if there is one there that does what you want.

I've been on the fence about this phone since I'm skeptical about phablets, and that it just might be a bit too big.
From what I read, this phone has a great camera and great battery life, although I'm worried about the battery being non-removable – how would Oppo handle failed battery issues?
No SD slot also sucks but with the 64GB model I shouldn't need it.
I assume the early reports of bad call volume have been fixed with updates?
How is 4G on this thing? In the UK this phone only gets 4G with certain networks.
Thanks
EDIT: This video indicates that it should actually be possible to replace the battery should it fail. The only issue is whether replacements are readily availably to buy.

Using clear image mode I have been able to get some nice photos but only outside in bright sunlight without shadows anything else is not good,

Yep that's good

Been fine for me

I'm on Telstra pre paid it seems to b half the speed of my old crappy Frontier. Ookla says so too.
I'm persevering with it for a bit longer as only had 10 days but i am close to getting rid of it.

The phone?

I'm starting to get the impression that a major issue with this phone is quality control. I love the phone but I think I'm going to return it to DWI for a refund.
Today is the second time in the week or so that I've had the phone that the GPS has dropped for absolutely no reason. I use it in conjunction with Endomondo and I'm under clear blue sky the whole time.
The first time was the day after I got the phone and the GPS stopped working and refused to work until I rebooted. I was hoping it was a once-off. Today I got home from my run and Endomondo hadn't recorded any distance. The difference this time was that after initially firing up GPS Test and seeing no satellites, a short while later it started to work again. A reboot wasn't necessary.
I use my GPS virtually every day so this isn't acceptable. I'm going on a holiday shortly where I'll need the GPS to navigate through cities. The last thing I need is a drop out. :( Back to my Note 2 until I can find something else. Maybe I'll give the G3 a go.
How is 4G on this thing?
The last speedtest I did was 55mbps down and 18mbps up in a metro area, around the same as my Nexus 5 and slightly faster than my iPhone5. For UK freq, this might be relevant: https://forums.oneplus.net/th
The only issue is whether replacements are readily availably to buy.
Yes, there are replacement screens/digitizers (around $110) and batteries ($40) available for DIYs. The teardown guide is here – https://www.ifixit.com/Teardo
No SD slot also sucks
It's a plus in my books – messing around with two storage areas is a headache. Also since 4.4 heavily restricts app access to SDcard, it causes a number of issues. Add onto that the lack of external SD encryption in nearly every ROM and it's a security nightmare. I think OnePlus is doing the right thing here by only charging $50 more for substantial internal storage.
I returned my 1+ for a refund after the yellow screen glue issue, which affected quite a lot of people and unfixable, plus I didn't like the size. The GPS and multi-touch issues that people are having is also concerning, these are marked in progress on the issue tracker, presumably they can be fixed in future software updates. Some people had luck loading the gps.conf from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.
Bit of a lottery with this phone, some problems can't be fixed, some can be worked around, the best results are found when tinkering. It can be incredible (and importantly, unmatchable) value if everything goes right. That's why people opt to pay doubly for similar specs – better QC, better return policy, retail locations, etc, it's a trade off.

I think you've summed it up perfectly.
Thinking about it some more, if I hadn't yet bought a OnePlus and was looking for one, I would hunt down a second-hand one from local/forum sales, for an in-person transaction. That way, I can inspect the unit first hand, take a few minutes to give it a proper yellow screen, GPS and multi-touch test before buying. Better than nothing, and it's much better to have a working unit first, than to spend time later messing around.

Yes, probably not a bad idea but the GPS problem I'm seeing has only occurred twice in a week. I really don't want to sell this phone but I just know the GPS will be major frustration if I keep it. If I was one of those people who only use the GPS occasionally it wouldn't be the deal breaker that it is.

I'm using Telstra and the fastest I've got sofar is 13.66 Mbps

Might just sell it when it arrives without opening it and get Z3 compact :/

It's a biased sample. People with issues are more likely to talk about them then people with no issue .
I've had one issue. On about day 2, the accelerator stopped working (screen wouldn't rotate with the phone . I rebooted it and it started working again, and the issue has never returned.
Other than that, screen is fantastic, GPS works all the times I've tried it in Ingress, maps and runtastic cycling. No issues with swiping on the Google keyboard. Very occasionally a quick light touch won't register, but it's never caused problems.
Except for as of this post, where tapping space twice should leave a full stop and a space, it's now leaving a space and a full stop, deleting the last letter of the sentence. So I have to manually put in a full stop. Probably a keyboard issue rather than the OnePlus though.
Looks like a Chrome issu . Seeing same thing on other websites, but not in gmail app or Facebook app.
Reading all these comments is making me regret getting the phone
It is upto you friend, but I don't have any issue with my OPO except yellow banding at the bottom of the screen which I think is sorted with late production units. Overall I am happy with my device for its offering and price point.
....I don't have any issue with my OPO except yellow banding at the bottom of the screen....
Don't you think that's a pretty big "except"? If mine had arrived with that, it would have been returned immediately.

Exactly my experience with opo too. Yes i would have asked for a refund, except that i got it from oneplus and returning via dhl means I end up losing a hundred bucks.. Auspost dont accept anything with li-po battery for international shipment
It's a biased sample. People with issues are more likely to talk about them then people with no issue .
Yep I got mine on the ebay sale and have had 0 problems with it. No yellow banding or anything. Great phone and loving it so far so just haven't seen the need to post.
Likewise fellows its not all doom and gloom
Absolutely loving my OPO coming from an iphone5
Rooted but no custom ROMs or kernels loaded. In the past when I had android devices, CM would always be my target ROM anyway.
Stock 38R been good for me, GPS and yellow band not been an issue for me. Camera pretty good too.
Getting used to the size.
Default keyboard was difficult to type (coming from iOS) got swift key doing stellar job.
Love customasibility of this phone
Only find the vibration motor intensity weak. Set at max but not good enough. Even though i used vibe a lot I'll just find a nice ringtone now lol. Willing to live with that compared to everything else and at this price point
Only find the vibration motor intensity weak.
another OPO inconsistency. Mine is crazy powerful. I have it turned down to 60 or 70%, and it still feels like it's rattling the buttons in their slots. :)
It's a biased sample. People with issues are more likely to talk about them then people with no issue .
This, how people don't understand this is beyond me.
Don't you think that's a pretty big "except"? If mine had arrived with that, it would have been returned immediately.
For me, no it is not a big except. For others, yes it might be. I don't want to send this unit to China and wait again to get the replacement unit. That is a long wait time and money involved for posting. If they had a physical store I would change it. But I have accepted the yellow banding issue for the inconvenience of sending. Further more I am using a app which give a blue gradient at the bottom part of the screen which can successfully hide yellow banding.
another OPO inconsistency. Mine is crazy powerful. I have it turned down to 60 or 70%, and it still feels like it's rattling the buttons in their slots. :)
And my vibration motor is very powerful as well, I had to turn it down to 30%. When it is 100% it makes annoying noise which is unacceptable for me.
Overall I am happy with my device for its offering and price point.
That is my second most hated statement behind "well its a good phone considering what you paid".
Well no its not! It may have been good for the money if I had just brought it down the road with 2 year warranty and full backup but u can't. If it was sold retail with backup it would have to sell at Flagship prices. If a M8 was sold factory direct it would also be $350 USD or less.
OPO is ment to be a Flagship Killer and Antutu says it is but side by side my mates SGS5 whizes past this supposed 3Gig Ram beast.
I'm gonna stop my rant because I may b selling it soon and also I have no yellow band or GPS issues so I guess should consider myself lucky
And my vibration motor is very powerful as well, I had to turn it down to 30%. When it is 100% it makes annoying noise which is unacceptable for me.
Same here and I set mine to only 20%. At 100% it goes crazy.. My colleague who sits next to me notices the vibration too lol
I don't get it.
For those who have been following my GPS problems (even after I updated to 38R), the phone has now been able to miraculously achieve GPS lock in under 5 seconds for at least 3 days with no hiccups now. Even after deep sleep (overnight), I can still pick it up and it locks my location effortlessly. This was previously unachievable by my device – as not using the GPS module after a while would cause it to stop working until reboot. I have now not rebooted the phone in over 3 days.
Here's the thing though: I didn't do anything.
I didn't load any new apps, change any settings – nothing.
Given that I still had the issue after updating to 38R, why would it now behave completely different and work solidly all of a sudden? Not that I'm complaining, but I've already logged an RMA ticket with DWI and they are now awaiting my response. Kinda don't know what to do now. :-\
EDIT: Whelp, forget about it. Literally less than 30 mins after I've written this post, it seems to have disabled itself again. I can't tell you how pissed off I am, especially since for the last 3 days I've held off on posting anything on it seemingly miraculous recovery. It's almost as if it waited for me to write this post.

Certainly is a strange one for sure. Maybe it knew you were going to send it back. Hard to know what to do now I guess. Do you keep it now hoping it will be fine or send it back. Good luck with it.
Edit: now I have to edit my post. Looks like you better send it back. Sorry to hear that, man.

I noticed that it immediately stopped working again as I loaded the "Aus Weather" app for the first time in over 3 days.
Rebooted the phone, confirmed GPS is working again, loaded up Aus Weather again – instant GPS failure again.
..... Could it possibly be that Aus Weather was responsible all along? I do have the widget enabled on my home screen after all. :-\

I guess there is only one way to find out.
I've rebooted it again, and confirmed that GPS is working... Now I'm going to wait a while with the phone locked before confirming GPS is still working and then open Aus Weather again. In the meantime, I have removed the Aus Weather widget from my home screen.
I'll report back with results.

I Love it. I had dramas with connecting to amaysim but apart from that its a beast. Battery is amazing. Takes fantastic pictures cannot fault it.

It could be a fault with the secret mind reader/mind control app that's hidden in all China phone's and is ment to lay sleeping until the time is right for world domination. ;)

Crappy Aus Weather. If you'd been using Weatherzone life would have been good lol. Seriously though, I've never heard of Aus Weather causing issues on any other phone. That's the thing with this phone. Not everyone experiences issues which is great, but the issues that are being experienced seem to be many and varied.
I'm very hesitantly returning the phone. There's no way mms was going to work for me on the stock rom so I flashed Mahdi. mms then worked flawlessly. I was really hoping that the GPS switching itself off on day 2 of ownership was an aberration that wasn't going to repeat itself but it did it again today.
So I'm going to very hesitantly return the phone. I love everything about the phone except the problems I'm experiencing. I'm going back to the safety of my Note 2 for a while while I regroup and decide what to do.
I'm 99% sure that the new Nexus is going to be too big for me and the only other alternative that I see that would suit me is the G3 which seems to have a few issues of its own including ordinary battery life.
So I'm going to very hesitantly return the phone. I love everything about the phone except the problems I'm experiencing. I'm going back to the safety of my Note 2 for a while while I regroup and decide what to do.
How you removing to return the phone? From where you have bought it?
G3 does have few issues which makes it sometimes laggy and sluggish and after using OPO it will feel very slow. Either go for a note 4 after waiting few weeks with your current note 2 or you can go to the dark side if iOS is your cup tea. ;-)
I'm very hesitantly returning the phone
hi
can u tell me what issues are occurring with this phone?
what is this gps issue?
That is my second most hated statement behind "well its a good phone considering what you paid".
So what is most hated statement behind ?
I don't beleive if M8 was sold directly from factory it would be $350 USD or less. Not gonna happen mate.
How you removing to return the phone? From where you have bought it?
I'm returning the phone to DWI under their 14 day money back policy. I've unrooted, relocked, flashed stock CM11s and filled out the online RMA so I'm now committed.
G3 does have few issues which makes it sometimes laggy and sluggish and after using OPO it will feel very slow.
That's not the experience I had with the unit that I played with at the local Telstra shop. Telstra shop demos are usually the worst example of a phone but the G3 that I played with there was very snappy. The battery life is my biggest concern. I need to decide if I can live with 4 hours or so SOT. Removeable battery would alleviate that if it became a problem. Spare batteries and charger are usually pretty cheap on Ebay.
Either go for a note 4 after waiting few weeks
Way too expensive for what it is. If I was going to go the Sammy route again I'd probably go for a Note 3 that can be had for a fairly reasonable price right now and it will only come down more when the Note 4 is on the shelves. The Note 3 is still a very capable phone. Regardless of that, I'm over Touchwiz and a physical Home button. It's a personal thing.
....or you can go to the dark side if iOS is your cup tea. ;-)
Wash your mouth out with soap. ;)
what is this gps issue?
Read my posts from the last few pages if you are interested. If it's not affecting you, and it probably isn't, don't worry about it.

my other issue with the phone is it is wide and hard angle edge
this makes it hard to hold for very long without feeling uncomfortable/slight numbness in my fingers unless I re-adjust my fingers
Overall, I'd say the OPO is *almost* a perfect phone. I do have some issues with it:
1. Very slight yellow banding at the bottom – you really can't notice it unless you have a completely white background and even then, you have to be looking for it to notice. It's somewhat of a big problem but personally, doesn't really bother me.
2. Front facing camera, despite being 5MP, is pretty average. The back camera could perform better in low light but the Clear Image function helps it in that department.
3. For some, it might be a bit big – I'd say ~5.2" is a good size. For me, I don't have a problem with it.
4. Software seems to be hit-or-miss – some people (myself included) don't really have any problems but others seem to have lots of weird bugs.
5. Limited performance in some countries (USA) if you have the Chinese variant (like me).
That's basically my issues for now, however, I think the good things outweigh the bad things.
1. Incredible battery – I can sometimes pull off 2 days on a single charge.
2. CyanogenMod (and franco).
3. Top notch specs (Snapdragon 801, 3GB RAM, 64 GB).
4. Very smooth, rarely skips frames (unlike something like G3).
5. Supports both of Optus' 4G frequencies in most cities (4G Plus).
6. Obviously, the price is great.
7. The screen is very good if you can ignore the yellow banding.
8. I think it looks very nice, personally, the Silk White looks better than the M8.
EDIT: Whelp, forget about it. Literally less than 30 mins after I've written this post, it seems to have disabled itself again. I can't tell you how pissed off
Are you interested to do some debugging? No root required. If you enable developers option you can gather a bug report. Basically this is a dump of the state of the device and kernel messages.
I am not a kernel developer and I am mostly wasting your time.. But if luck is in our side, we can see some obvious screw up like "SEGFAULT at qcomm-wlan.so 0xffff" ( just making this up ). That tells us the WiFi driver crashed.
If you are interested (remember, 99% chance I am wasting your time). Do this:
- once you see the problem. Take a bug report by: Settings > Developer options > Take bug report
- let it do its things. May take a few minutes
- when done, share it via email & send it to yourself.
- the report is a text file. Quite big. Open it using an editor like notepad++ and search for keywords like sigsegv, error
Now, reboot your phone & run the same app (weather oz, ndomondo, etc.). What we want to do is capture a working case, but what you do must be very consistent with what you did when you saw the problem. Take bug report again.
We now have 2 reports. Good & Bad. We can compare and hopefully see a pattern. We can also upload to xda for some clever ppl to look at.
We now have 2 reports. Good & Bad.
Which one's the 'good' one? You told me to do it 'once I see the problem'. Shouldn't I take a bug report whilst everything is working as normal?
Good one is when GPS works.
Ok, so since it's working now, I'll just take a bug report?
Then make it fail by launching Aus Weather, than then take another one, yeah?
EDIT: I can't see 'developer options' in settings though.
Hi. Was wondering if anyone can offer any advice. I can't seem to send/receive MMS. I get a message saying click to download, but after I do, it just stays on downloading and the picture never appears. I'm on Telstra pre paid. Can anyone offer any advice. Some brief research suggests changing APN settings and such, but I have no clue. Cheers.
EDIT: I can't see 'developer options' in settings though.
Keep tapping build date under about phone in the settings. Should appear.
Wash your mouth out with soap. ;)
Haha. No seriously. iOS is not bad if you are not demanding. It does its limited job almost flawlessly and fast. With ip6 and 6+ they have improved their battey and camera is awesome. So if these are your cup, then drink it. :-)
Take a bug report by: Settings > Developer options > Take bug report
Ok I've gotten to the Developer options, but I can't see anything called "Take bug report". I can see "Android debugging: Enable the Android Debug Bridge (adb) interface" though. It's currently set to the off position. If I try to turn it on, it says it works through USB.
I also see "Select debug app", but there are no options there.

I had the exact same problem.
Turned autoretrieve off then on and now it works.
Edit: and the irony of it all I was trying to brag about my super OPO by sending an Antutu benchmark screenshot of my 45K score to my mates 42K

Hey mate, thanks for the reply. I had a go but it doesn't seemed to have worked.
I seem to be able to send them. Can't seem to receive them. I checked my APNs and put them to default – this is what I got:
Well no its not! It may have been good for the money if I had just brought it down the road with 2 year warranty and full backup but u can't. If it was sold retail with backup it would have to sell at Flagship prices. If a M8 was sold factory direct it would also be $350 USD or less.
Have you considered that some people may have a phone with no issues? Apart from that, I could buy two O+O for the price of a current flagship at release, so even if I had issues it wouldn't bother me too much.
It doesn't matter what the m8 sold 'direct' would cost since you can't buy it for that price.
OPO is ment to be a Flagship Killer and Antutu says it is but side by side my mates SGS5 whizes past this supposed 3Gig Ram beast.
The o+o *is* much faster than the gs5, I'm literally holding my colleagues phone in my hand and switching between different apps and the gs5 is laggy with the system ui. In app performance can be considered the same, but general operations take longer.
Though it may have different faults for different people, I don't think anyone in this thread or any reviews have said this is a slow phone.

Well, unless they're running an agenda, anyway.

Yes you need to enable "Android debugging", and "Take bug report" (2nd option from top) should now be enabled.
If you don't see "Take bug report" AT ALL, then that's very very strange.. This is my screenshot: https://drive.google.com/file
Stock 38R. Except my device is rooted, but this isn't necessary to take bug report.
Anyway, here's an alternative way posted by someone else on oneplus.net:
XNPH38R includes the new CM Bug Reporter where you can capture a full bugreport and send it directly to us (on another JIRA project locked down to developers only). The bugreport includes the last_kmsg and you don't need to be rooted to capture a bugreport. It takes a little setup so if you are experiencing random reboots please do this ahead of time:
In Settings->About phone tap build number several times to turn on Developer options; then go back to Settings, hit Developer options and enable USB debugging and 'Power menu bug reports'.
After one of these random reboots hold the power button and tap the bug report option. Once it's generated (a minute or two later) tap the notification...
share via email, and send to yourself. You can also send to CM it may just sit there for weeks
Did u get any slowdown when scrolling pictures in the gallery?
It seems to slowdown for some pics that are 13 mb
Mine is slow when first opening gallery all pixelated for a few seconds but then scrolls fine.
Though it may have different faults for different people, I don't think anyone in this thread or any reviews have said this is a slow phone.
See above. Also my downloads are slow but that may be Telstra ile have to put an Optus chip in an try
Mine is slow when first opening gallery all pixelated for a few seconds but then scrolls fine.
Not sure how gallery compares but QuickPic is worth a try. Best image viewer by far imo. YMMV.
Does anyone have an issue with Google music? Sometimes when I play a song it will just flash the Play and Pause animation and nothing happens. A reboot fixes this problem but its pretty annoying.
..... Could it possibly be that Aus Weather was responsible all along? I do have the widget enabled on my home screen after all. :-\
My GPS keeps dying too, really annoying. It comes back after a reboot. I don't have Aus Weather. I do have Pocket Weather and use the widget though.
Have you considered that some people may have a phone with no issues? Apart from that, I could buy two O+O for the price of a current flagship at release, so even if I had issues it wouldn't bother me too much.
Except u can't just go down the road and buy an OPO in a few minutes it takes a few weeks.
It doesn't matter what the m8 sold 'direct' would cost since you can't buy it for that price.
Last weekend the m8 was selling for $588 instore at JB $587 at TGG with full warranty and instantly in your hands.
That's only about $150 more than my OPO cost but with no waiting and no shenanigans or wasted time tying to purchase.
The o+o *is* much faster than the gs5, I'm literally holding my colleagues phone in my hand and switching between different apps and the gs5 is laggy with the system ui. In app performance can be considered the same, but general operations take longer.
As has been said they're all different. Mine is lagging as I type right now. I put mine up against my mates s5 too show off but it didn't happen. He just shrugged and said don't be upset its good for the price, arghh
Best image viewer by far imo. YMMV.
I would second this. Never seen faster gallery app then QuickPic. I am happy with it.
I don't get all the hate. My One Plus One flies along. does everything super snappy – an that's still with battery saver enabled. I sometimes bump that up if playing a demanding game but that's rare. Performance is crazy on this phone
My GPS keeps dying too, really annoying
Have you had the phone long? Do you have the option of returning it?
....an that's still with battery saver enabled.
If you can get a day of usage without it, I'd turn it off. Battery life is pretty decent with everything turned on.
As has been said they're all different. Mine is lagging as I type right now
Your unit or software is faulty. Try to factory reset and restart in fastboot mode and clear delvik and clear internal momory. If it is still slow then it is a hardware issue. OPO is not a slow performing device, never heard. It is not supposed to be slower performing with a handset which has to deal with Touchwiz
Ok so today I have captured my own debug log and extracted the relevant lines. Firstly, my phone settings (been like this all along):
- Location: High accuracy
- Google Location Reporting: On
- Google Location History: On
I like this crap because occasionally I would log into https://maps.google.com/locationhistory/b/0 and see my daily travel pattern :). Back on topic...
My route this morning:
- Left home around 8:13
- Drove around, made a few stops
- Arrived work around 9:16
From the log extract (below), my phone did not receive Gps location between 08:17:25 and 08:31:11. All it got were Wifi and Cell locations.
Did the Gps crash during this time? I don't know.. During that timeframe I was in a highly built-up inner suburb. No errors showed up in the logs. If I was using navigation, I believe the error "signal lost" would've showed up..
Log extracts (read bottom up): https://docs.google.com/docum
Edit: Not raising alarm yet.. Let me try disabling Wifi and Mobile data on my way home and see what happens
share via email, and send to yourself.
Done. I now have two bug reports. One taken when GPS is working, and one taken right after I replicated the error after running Aus Weather.
Whim me with your email address and I'll gladly send them to you.
hey guys expecting to get my phone today
Read the whole thread on rooting.. just to confirm I can unlock bootloader, install custom recovery and root.. and still be able to get OTA update
and every time i do get an OTA update, ill just have to root again
Is that correct?
Is that correct?
Yes that's exactly how I went from stock 33R to 38R
Edit – don't know if affects future OTA but my device got OTA notification for 38R before I unlocked and rooted 33R. After rooting it still had the 38R avail notification so I proceeded to update then. Then flash the supersu zip after update to gain root back
My OPO just arrived in the mail. Will start playing around with it tonight, hopefully it doesn't have all the reported issues that I've seen in this thread.
Will keep you guys updated :)
Yes that's exactly how I went from stock 33R to 38R
Thanks!
Will use this guide to root mine
https://forums.oneplus.n
Having said that, phone has rebooted and immediately getting some scrolling issues, ie I'll scroll through menus and the bottom 0.5cm of the screen appears stuck, then unsticks, something is not right...
Just an update to this if anyone is interested and/or having the same issue (it is a recognised problem some users have got after upgrading to 38r)...it can be solved by turning on Developer Options and ticking "Disable HW overlays". The issue then magically disappears. Only problem is I've noticed that setting doesn't stick after a restart and has to be re-ticked but at least it has allowed me to stay on 38r for now.
I got the original advice here – http://forum.xda-developers.c

Yep exactly what I used but on a mac. TWRP recovery + I remained on custom rom/kernel for now
CM is stock for this phone....?
It's stock as in the default, but vanilla android is available. https://forums.oneplus.net/th
But using vanilla is so much boring in a OPO. Better to try nexus 5 if vanilla android is your preferred OS.
Better to try nexus 5 if vanilla android is your preferred OS.
I'd probably use Mahdi if I had a OPO. CM doesn't have a great reputation when it comes to stability.
CM doesn't have a great reputation when it comes to stability.
This was true previously but CM11s on the O+O is their first attempt at an OS since turning into a business/company and I've found it quite stable.
I've found it quite stable
Good to know.
I seem to recall there being a thread on XDA about enabling certain LTE radios. Does anyone know if there's a way to enable 4G 850MHz that Vodafone uses?
EDIT: This is what i was looking for. Anyone tried it? http://forum.xda-developers.c
got this from oneplus one forum
for those who still didn't receive the ota, try the below steps n u might be lucky.
1) go to Settings
2) go to Apps
3) swipe to right until All
4) scroll until System updates
5) tap on Clear data
6) enable Location
7) restart your phone
8) try system update again
* got my ota via data, not sure if is working on wifi.

Just flicked on my directly sourced OPO for the first time (posting on it now), its fantastic. No yellow band or anything. Very happy
Quick question, until I can make it to the shops tomorrow can I use my old S3 charger? Or is there some voltage regulation on the official cable? appreciate the guidance.
Yay!

You can. Charging wud be a bit slow though
Has anyone regretted their purchase based on the size of this thing? I'd be coming from a Galaxy S2, but I think my hands are big enough.
Also, reviews mentioned problems with call volume. I realy hope that issue has been fixed, because there is zero point having a powerful phone if it can't adequately perform basic phone functions.
Has anyone regretted their purchase based on the size of this thing?
As a previous user of a Lumia 1520, I laugh at anyone complaining about the size of the OPO.
Has anyone regretted their purchase based on the size of this thing? I'd be coming from a Galaxy S2, but I think my hands are big enough.
This is a hard question because what may be perfect for me may be too big for you or vice versa. I've had a Note 1, Note 2, Lumia 1520, and HTC One Max in the bigger phones. Have also had a S2, and LG G2.
For me, the OPO was the perfect size. A 5.5" screen is the ideal size for me and the OPO managed to stick the same sized screen as my Note 2 in a package that's around 4mm narrower. You can really feel the difference in the hand. The OPO has a rounder back as well which I think improves the feel in the hand.
Not sure where you were considering purchasing it from but the safe route is to go through somewhere that has a return policy. Both the grey importers Kogan and DWI have a 14 day return policy. With DWI it's from the invoice date, can't remember what Kogan has. If you buy from one of these and after a couple of days you feel it's too big you can return it and cost yourself only the return postage to an AU address.
Call volume has been fixed. My hearing isn't great and it was plenty loud for me.
hth.
Has anyone regretted their purchase based on the size of this thing? I'd be coming from a Galaxy S2, but I think my hands are big enough.
Personally went from a Galaxy S3 to a OPO and found no issues (except with my school shorts :O ) Either way I have small hands and am able to do most things with this phone one handed. The screen on gesture (double tap the screen) is really handy as well as double tapping the status bar to lock the phone.
Also, reviews mentioned problems with call volume. I realy hope that issue has been fixed, because there is zero point having a powerful phone if it can't adequately perform basic phone functions.
That issue was fixed long ago in one of the first updates I believe. No issues with call volume for me

I too came from the S2 and was a little intimidated at the size of the Oneplus at first. While I was waiting for the case and screen protector, I didnt even use it and considered selling.
However decided to have a crack and got completely use to it within 2 days and now a happy owner. Having said that, yes I find the phone a bit tall and kind of wish the top and bottom bezels were smaller.

I am also an s2 owner to OPO
I find the width and hard edge of the phone makes it uncomfortable to hold in one hand after a period of time..and need to re adjust or change hands
anyone find swiping right of all your images in the gallery, produces a stutter or slowdown...
not seem be an issue as much when swipe left
Only problem I have at the moment is that Snapchat keeps crashing the camera and stops any app from being able to use it unless I restart the phone. This isn't caused by any other app only when Snapchat is used (happens from time to time)

I get this occasionally with Heart Monitor. It uses the flash and camera to check your pulse when you squish your finger tip on them. Sometimes it craps out and won't let anything else use the camera. I thought it was an issue with the app. Although I find just swiping the app away from the task switcher list of apps fixed it, no need to reboot.
Yes, there are replacement screens/digitizers (around $110) and batteries ($40) available for DIYs.
I've been searching online and I can't actually find the replacement batteries you speak of.
Has anyone else?
If I can know for sure that a failed battery can be easily replaced, I won't care that it is 'non-removable'.
EDIT: This is what i was looking for. Anyone tried it?
Tried it. Doesn't work with LTE channels, only 3G. Reverted.
Not going to read through the whole fourm, but I managed to get 4g working on the Oneplus. Currently running 4g on vodafone's network. If anyone is interested in knowing how just ask...
Also, has anyone had any problems with the phone not waking back up after standby/hibernation. Sometimes I can get the phone to wake, other times I cant and have to do a hard reboot. Any solutions?

Did you see this post? It lists "LTE:Band 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20, 21 (no 23 at this time)". http://forum.xda-developers.c

It should work on Vodafone's L1800MHz by default. Are you referring to getting it to work on the new L850MHz network? If so, then yes, I'm interested to know if it's possible.

whats the video quality like on snapchat with the phone?
Also i read on the OPO forums people have been using a 3rd party snapchat client and the crash doesnt happen on it

Yeah, I had seen it. I probably glossed over it though.
I might give it another rip. I still have the software installed.
Maybe this evening.
I'm still on 33R. I think I read something about encryption not working in 33R? Is that right?
Also, are there any issues turning on ART instead of the Dalvik runtime? I'm not running xposed, and don't really feel the need to with CM's plenty of customisation options.
I got a Nova Launcher update this morning while on 33R. Just now received the OTA update to 38R and it seems to have killed Nova. All I get is "Unfortunately Nova Launcher has stopped working".
Anyone else?

I have been using ART for the last month without problems on stock 33R. Cannot say I noticed much difference in speed. I was hoping game speed would be better.
So many issues with the latest update. Regretting it now. Have to keep rebooting for various issues. Touchscreen multitouch goes crazy, horizontal lines on screen, gps stops working. Battery life seems worse too

Did you get the update OTA?
I have to say this is a great phone.
I updated manually to 38R, no root, stock standard, and have no issues, battery life is great

cheers.
ART should just make loading faster, and use very slightly less battery. edit: and apps would use up slightly more storage space. It wouldn't improve frame rates or smoothness of scrolling/animations or anything like that inside a game.
I'll flick it on and see how I go :)
I wonder if that could be part of the problem?
I do not think updating manually can cause any issue compared OTA as it works in a similar fashion. Bad download or currupted download can commonly cause this kind of issues.
A clean install is suggested by many experience flasher (not sure if it is a word!)
I wonder if that could be part of the problem?
I installed it manually as well. I got that flashing black line and crazy touch once, but it's never occurred again after a reboot.
Phone is still pretty much perfect, battery life is even better than before.
I was a little worried that my update hadnt showed up (I never got the last update, and had to root/reinstall CM11), but this morning I woke up to the update there in my notifications.
very bad STATIC using an iphones headphone on the oneplus. Used them for a business call first time today BAD IDEA. Same headphones work with other android (galaxy) and on PC no issues.
These little issues are starting to get annoying. Anyone else notice this? Theres a small thread on the Oneplus forums: https://forums.oneplus.net/th
:|.

I've used iPhone earphones with no issues.
Hey shokk saw your post and checked mine. Update is now available wasn't available this morning.
Have to wait till I have some WiFi then I'll download, hope there's more pros than cons with it, as we all know everyone's OPO can react differently ;)
Just received the OTA update notification. Downloading now.
I've used iPhone earphones with no issues.
Strange. Okay just tried with my old trusty htc's and they worked fine. Great.
Iphone earphones definitely an issue. Strange. Never heard of 3.5mm compatibility issues?!
IIRC I think I also got some static when I connected my car aux to oneplus. (3.5mm aux to 3.5mmaux). Il try that out again.

Just finished installing. So far so good. Everything is good ATM.

They're not quite the worst headphones in the world, but they're close (in addition to having Apple's non-standard wiring pattern). Good ones will be better for everything anyway.

Good to hear.
Hoping it stays that way

And I thought those magic earbuds or ear pods or whatever they called would actually be decent quality.
Actually REALLY glad I went looking for the old htc's. :). The htc buttons work with controlling volume/mute etc which is great

Apple is the king of marketing. And if you are that, you don't need to make good stuff.
Just updated to 38R. Now my home screen icons are small icons inside larger coloured squares. Anyone know what's wrong?

Try changing the Grid Size. Press the menu button from the home screen and then touch on the 3 dots that appear above "Widgets". That will bring some settings up.

Must say it is very strange that some things play up on some and not others after the update. My icons are still the same as they were before I did the update..
When I had the phone I found 38R to be a real pain in the arse. I ended up flashing Mahdi and life was good.

Have ota updated and haven't noticed any differences yet but haven't had time to play around yet.
But sofar icons are the same and no screen issues.
Grid size, icon size, didn't matter. Google now launcher, trebuchet, didn't matter. Hexo theme gives some normal icons like I had in 33R, but now some are micronized.

Holo theme gives back standard KitKat icons. But they look weird now after having the L-style colour block icons for the last few week .
hey guys in the app drawer, cant you drag one app over the other to create a folder?
is there any way to make a folder in the app drawer
is there any way to make a folder in the app drawer
No. That totally defeats the purpose of having apps in the app drawer.
Folders are only for the home screen.
Coming from Sense UI where you could do that, just got so used to it
Never used Sense, so I can't comment, although it seems silly why anybody would want to do that, given that it's supposed to be an alphabetised catalog of your apps.
I'm sure there are launchers which allow you to do this, or even put them into categories.

I have the same issue after updating OTA to 38R. Even my app drawer icon is an circled ellipsis within a larger square. Not really a big deal to me so far, but please let us know if you do find a fix for this! :)
does anyone get stutter slowdown when swiping right while browsing gallery?
the gallery app in my CM11s only scrolls up and down. And no, no stuttering (but I only have about 40 photos in there)

I never liked the Hexo theme & icons.
get yourself a new icon pack and alternative CM theme from playstore.

What are your settings?
Are you using a custom kernel? Underclocking? Undervolting? 25r/30r/33r/38r? A different rom altogether?

I did have a look at the ones available, but nothing really caught my eye. To be fair, I don't have a particular aesthetic in mind that I want at the moment. Perhaps I will create my own icon set in the near future. :)
Got the 38R OTA last night. Haven't really dug into the changelog, but I am digging the new lockscreen. Looks sexy as hell now, not to mention the camera is only a swipe away.
Haven't read all the posts here, anybody come across a fix to the icons? Three quarters of my icons have boxes around them.

I just switched back to Holo icons.
I just switched back to Holo icons.
Damn. I love my current setup. Hopefully they update their icons or something to be compatible with 38R.
So 38R is causing the icons on the stock launcher Home screen to get screwed up or is it only with custom launchers?
Really? Hmm I just noticed it after 2+ months with my phone :S
yea, not sure if its just mine but since the update it keeps appearing to 'announce' itself that it's there even though I've disabled camera access from the lockscreen. I can't access it but it still shows everytime the screen is waken up..
nybody come across a fix to the icons?
Its just Icon themes Android vs Cyanogenmod (names are halo/hex etc whatever just choose the android ones)
Settings > themes > icons
ea, not sure if its just mine but since the update it keeps appearing to 'announce' itself that it's there even though I've disabled camera access from the lockscreen
This happened to me first few times I went to unlock after the 38R upgrade. It doesnt seem to happen anymore.
I think it just went away by itself (i.e. After a few certain count of unlocking and seeing the camera icon reminder, I should know I have that option already?)
But I had also changed the lock screen security from "slide" to "Face unlock" and then back to "slide". Maybe that helped?
Just charging my phone for the first time since the 38R upgrade. I notice that the % is not being shown now. It has always shown on the screen before. It is showing the battery icon still , just not the %. I don't know if it is because of the upgrade or not though. Bugger.
I thought my battery percentage had disappeared too but then realised if it's 100% charged it won't show a number, as soon as it drops to 99% or under it shows. Could this be your issue?
Could this be your issue?
That is not a "issue" rather it is a feature if you select circle battery. It was like that way in 25R 30O and 33R and it is still the same in 38R. The OP here having a new issue which was not there in previous FW.
I thought my battery percentage had disappeared too but then realised if it's 100% charged it won't show a number, as soon as it drops to 99% or under it shows. Could this be your issue?
No, mine was showing 18% when I put it on charge. Now it won't show the percentage at all. This is as it is charging, just to clear that up, with the phone off.
The OP here having a new issue which was not there in previous FW.
Yep that is right. It wasn't the case before the update. I don't know if it because of the update though.
This is as it is charging, just to clear that up, with the phone off.
Just as i thought, which i mentioned in my earlier post while replying to you. It is a new feature/issue introduced in 38R. You are not perticularly having problem. It is with me as well.
Considering purchasing this phone now. The only reason I'm hesitant with my purchase is that it might be too large.
I do have larger than average hands, however, I'm worried this phone is impossible to type on using one hand. Can anyone clarify this?
So 38R is causing the icons on the stock launcher Home screen to get screwed up or is it only with custom launchers?
38R did the screwing for me and a few others I read on here, but doesn't seem to be universal.
I got the OTA from 33R to 38R, installed via TWRP interception.
On either Trebuchet (stock launcher for CM11s) or Google Now launcher (installed from Play store)
33R: Hexa icon theme gave square coloured icons for stock apps (and notifications), but 'normal' looking, flat and squared icons for third party apps.
Holo icon theme gave back the standard Kitkat icons.
38R: Hexa icon theme gave square coloured icons for stock apps, but now third party apps are shrunk down to half size, and set inside a full sized colour square. The icons also appear weird like this in the notification drawer.
In Trebuchet, changing number of squares in the grid didn't help. choosing different icon size settings didn't help.
https://plus.google.com
Same icon theme with both 33R and 38R, but now different appearance.
That is not a "issue" rather it is a feature if you select circle battery.
Apologies for making a suggestion that related to the OP's issue post. We'll leave it to your expertise on the issue matter :)
On to an issue I've been having... has anyone had the lockscreen do funny buggers when unlocking? Sometimes I'll unlock and the screen goes black, have to double tap to wake and unlock again, sometimes this happens 3 or 4 times in a row, sometimes not at all!
Now it won't show the percentage at all.
Just double check this;
Settings -> Status bar -> Show battery status percent [ X ]
I thought my battery percentage had disappeared too but then realised if it's 100% charged it won't show a number, as soon as it drops to 99% or under it shows. Could this be your issue?
Mine always showed 100% when charged.
Settings -> Status bar -> Show battery status percent [ X ]
That shows now when the phone is on. I mean when charging with the phone off. It shows a large green battery on screen, which always showed the percentage of charge , while charging. Now it doesn't. It stil shows the green icon, but now %..
Reasonable says it is a known issue on 38R. I will see what I can find out later. These updates seem to cause more problems then they solve if you ask me. I realyl had very little issues until this update.
That shows now when the phone is on. I mean when charging with the phone off.
I see.. Thanks for clarifying. I almost never power down my phone so never noticed this
What are your settings?
Are you using a custom kernel? Underclocking? Undervolting? 25r/30r/33r/38r? A different rom altogether?
stock cm11s
just 33r
Hey guys,
Regarding Google voice search, is it crippled in Australia compared to the states?
The reason I ask is because I can't get it to do even half of the things in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vT0AWDq3DE
It's a real bummer, since I really like the contextual search (eg. when he asks what the capital of france is, and the follows up with 'what time is it there', and Google voice remembers he's talking about Paris and gives him the time there).
It's been mentioned previously here that quality control could be an issue with this phone, given that some are getting yellow screen, bad gps etc. I wonder how small a percentage this is, and whether it has been acknowledged and addressed by now?
And are most of you happy with the cameras? I'd be interested to know how it compares to the LG G2 which has optical image stabilisation (I've basically narrowed my choice down to these two phones). Is picture quality something that can be improved with software?

Definitely very bad quality & consistency.. So far I know lotan & corvus have gps issue. I have yellow band.

I've returned my phone for a refund because of GPS issues. I've owned a G2 and imo the camera on the G2 is better. OIS counts for a lot. The G2 isn't as lag free in daily use as the OPO though. Hard decision.

I just tried what you said
and it does work
it shows the time in france after I ask
-what time is it there
We kind of only ever heard problems in this thread, so on a positive note; done the 38R update and this phone is still rock solid. Best android phone I have used and I have used many over the last 8 years. Battery life is insane. I just leave everything on now and have a ten minute screen timeout. I can finally use a phone as much as I need without sacrificing usability. CM11 is a huge bonus for me. This is the first phone that I have not had to run custom ROMs on. GPS is instant for me which makes ingress nice to use. I occasionally miss the amoled screen and stylus of the note 3, but meh. :)

Nope. I don't use CM icons. Tried 5+ different icon sets via Nova all have coloured squares around icons.
Does it have anything to do with desktop grid size? Mine is 9x6. Most people probably don't have it that big.
OPO might receive renewed interest & demand now that N6 price is announced.
You can almost guarantee it. I for one am in that boat. I'll looking to get myself a OPO depending on what Lollipop does for my N5 battery life.
battery life
Project Volta? Did you test the L Preview?
I flashed the (unofficial) L Mako Port on my N4 and battery life was horrible. Phone heated up for no apparent reason. No apparent performance boost from ART either.. But again, it was an unofficial port based on a Preview.. So could be an ugly ***** of a ROM
Hoping my OPO arrives today. MORE than happy to have ordered having seen the N6 announcement.
Mine arrived at 7.30am today. I bought mine from a Whirlpoolian on Tuesday. I too am pleased I was tempted, given the size and price of the N6.
My initial impression is that it's definitely a big phone, but it doesn't appear to be too big as I feared. That could change once I use it as my daily phone, but I'm feeling like it was a good decision so far.
The first thing I thought when I opened the box was "this is one beautiful looking phone". It has an elegance about it.
The more you use it, the smaller it gets, too.
The other day I whipped out the phone it replaced – the Samsung Galaxy S! Holy crap, that thing now looks like an 8-digit calculator, with half the RAM!
Have you guys changed the DPI setting? It's 480 by default and text in the settings menu is huge. I changed it to 390, but people report that 380 to 420 is the appropriate range. I used the app texdroider_dpi to change it. You need to reboot after changing the setting (and you need to be rooted).
So I'm still getting a flickering horizontal line every now and then since the latest update. I've seen others complain about it before, but I never experienced it. I have to reboot to fix, then it comes back after a day or so.

I got that after the update too, a few times. But I also switched to ART just before getting the update, which was a silly move as it makes it hard to isolate the cause of issues.
I've switched back to dalvik yesterday, and I haven't seen it since (yet).
Does it have anything to do with desktop grid size? Mine is 9x6. Most people probably don't have it that big.
nope. I had the standard 4x4, and also had tiny-icon-in-a-box (TIIAB) syndrome.
Nope. I don't use CM icons. Tried 5+ different icon sets via Nova all have coloured squares around icons.
Ah ok, sorry a mate. I thought it was part of the resetup after OTA but I think that only happened to me cause I unlocked bootloader just before my OTA upgrade to 38R. I had to rechoose the themes at that point.
I did get wonky multi touch issues again today (pinch to zoom doesn't work as expected) disabled adaptive back light and reboot seems okay now. :|
Hey in the notification drawer.. you can tap and hold a notification and it says something like "ignore message like this"
Is that ignore till you undo it, or for a short period of time?
Also..how do you undo it
Thanks

Has anybody used MHL to HDMI successfuly on the OPO? Thinking about trying video from the phone to a plasma tv. Any thoughts.
OPO doesn't support mhl to hdmi. Tried it a few weeks ago. Shame. The only negative i could think of really.
Roku have screen mirroring for androids in Beta as part of latest firmware. Tried out OPO to Roku 3, pretty cool. Very similar to iOS-AppleTV. Youtube and media files play perfectly. BBC iplayer buffered quite a bit.
Just in time as I made the switch to Android. Reckon my Apple TV aint gonna get much of work out now:)

Damn , I tried it a couple of times too. I thought it was just me when I couldn't get it to work. Thanks.
The more you use it, the smaller it gets, too.
After only one day, my Nexus 5 seems totally inadequate. *laughs*
I think I'm ok with the size in terms of handling it, but I think it's a little on the heavy side. Anyone agree?
Great phone but it seems like every update made the phone worse or introduced more bugs. Got over the "we'll fix it promptly" attitude of CM/OP only to wait 6-8 weeks for a update that broke the phone more then it fixed. This rinsed and repeated a total of 4 times.
Prime example where top hardware can be let down by software. Battery life that lasted 2 days and 8hrs+ SOT to 1 day battery life and 4-5hrs.. had to keep rolling back to 30R to get that performance and deal with the bugs. Ended up selling the OPO and went back on my G2 with Cloudy G3 until the new flagships release.
but it seems like every update made the phone worse or introduced more bugs.
Do yourself a favour and install https://forums.oneplus.net/th
until the new flagships release.
All 2014 flagships are pretty much known & released. If you want something this yr, better place your order now before the Christmas frenzy.. price markups, postage slow-down, etc.
Otherwise turn away & look again in another 6 months. Next big thing should be 64-bit soc.
Where is everyone buying this phone? I have just received an invite from a mate, so I'm considering using a mail-forwarding service to buy one direct from OnePlus, but I'm worried if the one ends up being a dud, I can't return it. The invite expires soon, so I need to decide whether to get this, or hold out for a Galaxy Note 4.
I've seen others complain about it before, but I never experienced it. I have to reboot to fix, then it comes back after a day or so.
I had this happen to me once after the update, and it happened only after using a certain app. After reboot, it never happened again.

My experience has been pretty much the opposite, almost perfect phone from the beginning and the updates have brought new features and improved battery life.
Not sure why different people get different things with the same updates/phone; I think it's a combination of QA and the sheer variety of different apps people use.
I had this happen to me once after the update, and it happened only after using a certain app. After reboot, it never happened again.
Be interesting to know what the certain app was.
Does anyone know if the "Ok Google" command will work on the OPO running Lollipop, even when in sleep/lock? Or is this feature limited to Nexus devices?

Does it effect battery time in any way? What is your experience using it?
I don't think it effects the battery much. I don't use it much at all but it's good to know it's there when i do need it.
Regarding the battery, I came from a nexus 5 so no matter how many apps i have running and how much drain it still far outperforms previous phone :)
need to set language to English(US).
Does this affect search results/voice commands then?
Do we miss out on any regional-specific commands, such as "Remind me to get milk when I go to Woolworths" for example?
Will voice search results be based on the US google.com or the AU google.com.au?

I don't use it, try it and find out :)
This is probably not specific to the OPO but mobile phones in general, but what is the best video codec to record in? Just recorded a video at 1080p and it was ~180MB for 1min of video. Any of the other codecs have a higher compression?
anyone else considering between the note 3 and the opo? seems that the price difference isn't that huge any more, given the age of the note and the weakening dollar.
decided i'm not going for a latest and greatest phone this upgrade.
currently rocking an old note 2, but the screen's cracked.
other than a bit of lag occasionally, it's still working well.
looking for a 5.5 inch minimum, seems the note 3 and the opo are the best bang for buck at the moment.
can get a grey import note 3 for about $75 more than the opo. figure that it might be worth the few $ more for the potentially better support, after market stuff, battery, occasional use of the stylus. really interested in the opo though.
finally, can get australian stock of the note 3 price matched at officeworks for about $677 delivered (matching from uniquemobiles stock).
makes me wonder if stretching that bit more would be worth any warranty issues...
i might be missing something, but i'm genuinely amused at the number of posts i've read on other sites discussing between the opo and note 3 making mention of touchwiz as the main reason people are avoiding the note. i don't think i've ever used TW. always gone with nova prime, even when using a CM rom.

I think you misunderstand that changing the launcher doesn't rid the phone of TW. TW is still the overlay of Android that is an integral part of Samsung phones unless you flash an AOSP rom.

I went the other way around. Note 3 software from Samsung is very buggy. Battery life was crap after the last update they did. You will not get 4.4.4 let alone L. GPS was hit and miss. IMHO Note2 was a better phone. I am very happy with OPO. But whatever rocks your boat :)
Cannot seem to get my headphone jack to work on my 2week Opo, only tried to use it for the first time last night. It detects it's plugged in but will only play sound from the handset.
I tried both in-car FM transmitter thing and some headphones too. Any idea?
If you haven't left it too late, return it for a fully functioning unit.
I just tried a Samsung "3 ring" earphones and it works fine. but the other 3.5mm jacks with only 2 rings didn't work. Not the end of the world.
hey guys hows everyone finding call qualities in terms of audio
Call quality is excellent for me. I've also noticed that my OPO seems to have slightly stronger signal than my Nexus 5. Maybe it has a better antenna.
Hi guys, how do you write an underscore on the Oneplus One? I know I can press and hold on the – key however that is a pain and I would like a dedicated square.
Any ideas?
Just ordered one of these from Oneplus after receiving an invite from a mate. Had not actually heard of this phone until he showed me his. I quite like it. It was either this or a Note 4 on a new contract. Decided to get this, and if I change my mind later and decide I want a Note 4 I will just sell the OPO.
Looking forward to receiving the phone in hand. Will be replacing my Nokia Lumia 920 with smashed screen.

Yeah this latest update is no good.
I don't understand what they were trying to fix when they got these issues.
Just wondering if there's anything special I need to do to enable 4g on the device? I only get 3G h+ in a Vodafone 4G area?
Just wondering if there's anything special I need to do to enable 4g on the device? I only get 3G h+ in a Vodafone 4G area?
It only supports Voda's 1800mhz, band 3 4G. Not the new 850mhz 4G. Which band is in your area?
To make sure 4G is enabled, settings -> mobile networks (the words, not the on/off toggle) -> preferred network type – > set to LTE (recommended)
Just need a question quickly answered. I have the Chinese version with CM flashed with the latest update. If o do a factory reset on the phone, do I lose CM and updates? Does it revert to Color OS? Having a few issues.
If o do a factory reset on the phone, do I lose CM and updates?
it will revert to the most basic install of your current rom and version. you just lose apps, customisations and settings, essentially.
Does it revert to Color OS?
nope. There's no colorOS anywhere on the phone anymore for it to find to revert to, even if it wanted to.
If you're currently on CM11s version 38R, and you do a factory reset, it will be like wiping the whole phone and freshly installing a brand new CM11s version 38R.
Anyone experiencing the earpiece not working? Its happened a few times but a reboot fixes it! 38 has been full of bugs!! :(
Just wondering if there's anything special I need to do to enable 4g on the device? I only get 3G h+ in a Vodafone 4G area?
You also need to make sure you are using the correct APN.
The default APN on my SIM was vfinternet.au and this never allowed me to get 4G/LTE.
Once I changed to live.vodafone.com the 4G/LTE came up immediately.
M.
I have read a lot on these forums about the OPO screen not being as good as the Note3 screen. I had always assumed that the Note3 was better, but for the first time I compared them side by side and I think I prefer the OPO Screen. Lot at this screen dump https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/489441/IMG_0009.JPG
I am testing a multiuser version of a game I have developed, which caused me to borrow a Note3 and run it side by side. Then I realised that the colours on the Note3 look washed out in comparison to OPO. Is it just me? I tried looking from all angles and the OPO always look better.
Also 38R is totally rock solid for me. Everything works and I cannot complain about anything.
Who would have thought.
The default APN on my SIM was vfinternet.au and this never allowed me to get 4G/LTE.

Thank you _Machiavelli_! That is perfect, LTE came up immediately after switching APN!
Apologies if this is an android question rather then a One Plus question, in a text message how can I copy just a part of the text rather then copy the whole thing? (i'm coming from an iPhone)...

This is an Android question generally and not an OPO question, but because we are a friendly lot here.... Press and hold your finger down in the text area. You should get prompted with some arrows to mark the start and end position, once highlighted, you can press copy. This is something that is actually difficult to do on an iDevice I think.

It works that way generally in text fields on android. Yet for the life of me I have never been able to get it to work on texts I have received in hangouts. It didn't give text select tools, just a pop up menu of things to do, one of which is copy the whole text.
Yes that happens for me too. I think that is an app issue more than an Android issue. Google not following their own standards maybe.
On ending phone calls do you guys still have the notification drawer dropping down?
If so, is there an easy fix?
is there keyboard shortcuts on this phone?
on normal cm11, there was but on OPO, not sure..

Just got mine delivered, got it from DWI, ordered last Thursday 16th October. So pretty impressed with the speed of delivery. This phone has class written all over it, I love the packaging. Was also impressed that DWI included a Power adaptor. Loving this phone so far, coming from Nexus 4, I was worried about the size difference, but I already think the Nexus 4 is too small now.
My impressions, I bought a 64gb directly from Oneplus along with a case.
Coming from an iphone the packaging was top notch, nice little addition was the nano to micro sim adaptor which comes in handy.
Phone is bloody gigantic, really fast and no yellowing to be seen. In my basic rundown I'm really impressed.
Works excellent on vodafone 3g, yet to find any problems with it really.
Hi
I've had my OPO for about 2 weeks now.
The Battery life is amazing. I can get about 12 hours with a moderate use.
The screen is very clear and bright.
I have had no software/ROM issues.
The size has taken a little getting use to, but I wouldn't go back to a smaller phone now.
I also have a spare invite that expires tonight at 10PM ADST
Anyone else have the "GPS Signal Lost" issue where it will work fine, GPS status app will even show 8+ fixed sats, then boom – 0 and searching. Needs a reboot to fix.
Both in previous and latest release. One guy thought it might be the connection tile/widget not swapping between power saver and high accuracy mode properly.. will stop using that and see if it makes a difference...

I had the exact same problem. Apparently, it was due to a SINGLE app (Aus Weather) that I had installed which would trigger the problem. I got rid of it and it fixed my problem instantly. Hasn't missed a beat since. Do you have that app by any chance?
My GPS stopped while using runkeeper last week, had too reboot to get it working. Runkeeper updated the app a day later. Now it works perfect.

I use runtastic pro. Maybe once or twice a week I get GPS issues. Solved with a reboot. Kind of annoying. Google maps still seems to work fine.
Post removed – lack of 4G/LTE connection to Vodafone was due to a grandfathered plan. Changed to a current plan!
I seem to have lost my contact card that is loaded from Google+ with my picture.
It's the top left box when u drag down the quicky access panel from the notification bar.
I'm not sure what happened and cant get it back? It only loads up the local unsynced profile now when i press it.

So I don't haven to worry about CM being effected? It's just I've had a few niggling things I can't resolve and I'm hoping a complete factory reset will help.

Pretty much my thoughts, especially on the size and battery. I am not sure why people have difficulty, I am small with small hands, yet its easy to use for me. When I first got my Sony Xperia S I was disappointed with it being so large, but then I got used to its size. Now though when I look at that phone it seems comically small, like a toy. I could not use a smaller phone now. The OPO does not seem big, just phone size.
I've also had zero hardware issues. Though it does seem like the power button is not 100%, its taking a direct press in the center to work rather than if I miss a little to one side. Hope it does not fail further. And the case could be a lot more highend, looks and feels a little Samsung cheap. Not sure what would happen if i dropped it either, my Xperia S was epic in its toughness, bounced on many a road and pavement with still to this day a perfect screen.
For the next version I'd love an aluminum case and better camera, that's about it.
Mine arrived this morning, and I was so excited about using it I forgot to unlock the bootloader and root it. OK, time to do that and then let it re-download all those apps :-)

Good to see your phone arrived. I hope you enjoy the experience.
Edit: Yours seem to take a fair while to get here.

Hmm, perhaps use the double tap screen to wake up and double tap the notification bar to minimise power button usage?
Build quality is quite good – very solid with no wobble and I think it looks very sleek. Of course, these things are just personal opinions.

Correct, and cost about the same, I think :-)

Well, it would be if I could get drivers installed. Rooted many an Android device before, but never had issues like this.
I assume many of the new batch of OPO don't have the issues of the earlier models, ie dead pixels, yellow banding etc?
Why do you need/want to root?
Habit/run Xposed, etc. Might as well do it now at the start, but the drivers are being a complete PITA.
Why do you need/want to root?
Adaway
Titanium Backup (app settings and saved games require root)
Edit gps config file to get faster GPS lock
Those are my top 3, in order. I am sure there's other stuff I have needed root for, but adaway alone is enough to make it worth it.

+1 for Adaway
Plus Rooting allows you to have a custom DPI amongst other things
Edit gps config file to get faster GPS lock
I returned my OPO because of GPS problems but one problem I never had was a fast lock. Mine would always lock inside 5 seconds. It was super sensitive as well. I could get a lock indoors like I've never been able to do with any other phone. Are many people having issues requiring editing the gps config file?
I'm thinking of giving the OPO another go. There's no other phone that ticks all the boxes for me like it does. imo perfect size, fast and great screen.
The new Nexus isn't cheap and is a bit of a handful and in their infinite wisdom Google have removed the notification light which may not be a big deal to everybody but it is to me.
My first OPO didn't have any yellow banding. Are people still receiving them with this problem or is it a thing of the past?

Plus custom roms if you are that way inclined.

mine was shipped three weeks ago and is fine. (Photographer, so pretty picky about screens.)
(Photographer, so pretty picky about screens.)
As a photographer what do you think of the camera hardware and software? I saw a review somewhere of the camera and the guy doing it was a photographer and rather than using the CM camera software he was using Camera FV-5. The results he posted looked really good.
I ended up buying Camera FV-5 and Cinema FV-5 and the results I was getting seemed better than what I could get with the CM camera. Thoughts?

Seeing as you are a photographer, it would be great to see what you think of the 1+1 camera. When you get the phone sorted , that is.
Edit: Beaten ^^^^.
Are many people having issues requiring editing the gps config file?
Well I didn't have any issues that I noticed before, but I never really tried it. I'd just done it the week before on my nexus 4 (which was usually a bit slow to lock on GPS), so figured I'd do it to the OPO too.
The new Nexus isn't cheap and is a bit of a handful and in their infinite wisdom Google have removed the notification light which may not be a big deal to everybody but it is to me.
They what? Oh man, even more glad now that I bought the OPO. Who removes a notification light?!? Although moto with their OLED screens can just use noLED I guess, but still. It's a 2c LED!

Shokk has it right – all day trying to get drivers installed, not even taken a photo with it yet :-)
Who removes a notification light?!?
Especially when doubling the price of the phone...
all day trying to get drivers installed
pfft. Ubuntu FTW. I didn't need to install any specific drivers, and I already had ADB and Fastboot installed from previous nexus tinkerings. ;)
I already had ADB and Fastboot installed from previous nexus tinkerings. ;)
I used to as well, but did a clean install of W7 a month ago.
The phone itself is great :-)
And defeated it in the end. #yeah #completelyrooted
Love this screen, and the general snappiness of it. Funny how small the N4 now looks...
Hello all. I hope I have selected the correct forum to ask this question. I have also tried to search for the answer prior to posting... with no real success. I suspect that's because often knowing how to word the question is more important than the answer :>
I'm looking to the good folk out there to assist (please).
I am looking a buying OPO Chinese variant from DWI off eBay. This is the Chinese OPO which they say had Colour OS replaced with CM11S & has Google Play Store prior to purchase. Seller has said that Android Version is v4.4.3 installed.
My questions are,
1) Will this phone automatically receive and install Over The Air Updates now having CM11s installed, or does this not work because the handset was originally a Chinese version? If location matters, I live in Australia.
2) Can I upgrade the Android Version from v4.4.3 to v4.4.4? I believe v4.4.4 has a number of bug fixes such as SW yellow screen, loudspeaker volume, clear camera, etc. See http://www.androidpolice.com/
I also note other updates such as multi touch would be good to install. See http://www.androidpolice.com/
3) Is the Android Version a separate thing needing updating to the CM11s or does the Android Version update itself when you update CM11?
4) Are the Downloads listed on Cyanogen website v4.4.4? See https://cyngn.com/products/oneplusone/
@AussieOne2:
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. It is part of the CM package. Basically, CM is a tweaked version of Android. No other updating is necessary
4. No. CM11 is different to CM11s. CM11s is specially designed for the OPO, and has (technically) monthly updates. CM11 is the one with nightly updates, and would need to replace CM11 in order to be used.
I have the Chinese one, sourced from China. I replaced ColorOS myself with CM11s, and it runs smoothly. I have underclocked my maximum processor speed, and it is still smooth. Just gets longer battery life (3 days without a charge).
Yes, I use it and it works fine.
PS. This is for the jawbone 24 question
Awesome...ordered a OPO last night then realised the UP24 is pretty selective about which android phones it supports.
So just to confirm you have the bluetooth version? not the regular UP?
Thank you Arnold J Rimmer,
That gives me confidence to buy Chinese version.
Thanks for clarifying that the files on Cyanogen site are the stock CM11 and not the customised CM11s for OPO.
So to upgrade CM11s / v4.4.4 should I source the download files required directly from OnePlus Website?
Can you point me to the location of the latest CM11s with v4.4.4 that will have all the bug fixes for multi touch, louder speaker volume, SW yellow tint adjustment etc?
Or is it easier to just wait for the phone to check for updates inself?
I have underclocked my maximum processor speed
And how you have done that? I think it requires rooting?
I have underclocked my maximum processor speed, and it is still smooth. Just gets longer battery life (3 days without a charge).
Please ... how do you do that?
thanks
Why doesn't 'silent' actually mean SILENT?
ie. When I press and hold the power button, and I press the 'muted speaker' icon, why when I press my volume rocker, is the ringer still up to max? It seems it only mutes notifications and music/video sounds.
I can see that you can change the Maximum CPU frequency in Settings > System > Performance.
Thanks for that, I didnt know it. How much clock speed you have set on it? And how much it has affected your daily use sluggishness? I have just selected two step down to 1997Mhz to see how much compromise it makes in performance.
Do you also change the governor to powersave? I havent changed anything from there as I do not know what I am doing.
What if I select higher speed in minimum CPU frequency from 300mhz? Will the handset feel zippier sacrificing more battery charge? Anyone here tried that?
Any one done a comparison of this to a S note 4 edge ?
I am thinking of getting this, cause i can get one nowish.

Silent mode for me works like all my previous phones, no ringtones, notification sounds, camera shutter sounds, etc. Not sure what else you were after...?
Using the volume buttons takes the phone off silent and back to your previous volume level, similar to how mute and volume buttons work on your TV remote.

I don't think you understand. Pressing the silent button after I hold the power button only seems to mute notifications and music/video. It does NOT mute ringtones.

Except it totally isn't.

Sorry but I'm holding my OPO right now and tested it. I held the power button, then pressed the silent icon to switch it to silent mode. Then I called my mobile from a land line and the call appeared but with no ringtone.
Except it totally isn't.
Maybe your TV and remote work differently to mine then.
Then I called my mobile from a land line and the call appeared but with no ringtone.
Are your ringtone and notification sounds paired, or unpaired?
ie. When you hit the volume rocker, and press the 'expand' button (if enabled), do you have separate controls for notifications and other audio? That's how I've set mine up.
Maybe your TV and remote work differently to mine then.
Orrr my phone is set up differently to yours.
I'm aware of these settings but haven't played with them.

Have you tried using profiles. You can set things individually. I have a work and home profile. Apart from silent or vibrate you can also set WiFi and Bluetooth etc....

"Link ringtone and notification volumes"
Dont get what the drama is about :/
If you want to unpair them, then you have to silence ringtone separately.
Thats just how it is stock
Hi All,
I have just received my Chinese version OPO from DWI flashed with cyanogenmod, and I love the phone already.
However (and it's a big however!), I can't get it to work with my Telstra 4G postpaid SIM card.
When the SIM is in, it has a picture of a SIM with a question mark in the notification bar, and I think I saw something flash up about needing to do something to enable the SIM??
It sees the networks, including "Telstra Mobile" however will not register on them.
I was under the impression the Chinese version should work, but maybe I was mistaken?
Anyone else experienced this, or any hints what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks
Anyone else experienced this, or any hints what I'm doing wrong?
Have you got the sim card in the right way? It has been put in backwards before. Worth checking.
Got this in the mail today, loving it so far but there's one thing that I can't seem to figure out.
How can I change the default icons (Messaging, Phone, Clock & etc) into the normal android ones? Cause I swear I found it when I was first setting it up.
Have you got the sim card in the right way?
God damnit. Now I feel like a retard. I swear I tried it the other way and it didn't go in, so I assumed it was constructed smartly enough that it would only go in one way.
Then as I was repacking it all I saw the little diagram on the screen cover, and the lightbulb went on.
Thanks
Hey guys, Those who ordered from Oppomart, how long did delivery take for you?
My package has been sitting in HK for like a week without moving according to the DHL tracker.
How can I change the default icons (Messaging, Phone, Clock & etc) into the normal android ones? Cause I swear I found it when I was first setting it up.
settings -> themes -> styles (or Icons) -> holo
Have you got the sim card in the right way? It has been put in backwards before. Worth checking.
Yep, I put mine in backwards the first time around.
settings -> themes -> styles (or Icons) -> holo
Thanks! Now me and my OPO can live happily ever after.
Okay, new question.
My contacts saved as 04xx are not recognised when I receive SMS.
It shows +614xx and doesn't make the connection.
Short of changing every saved contact to +61, anyone know why that is happening?
God damnit. Now I feel like a retard. I swear I tried it the other way and it didn't go in, so I assumed it was constructed smartly enough that it would only go in one way.
No worries. You aren't the first and there will be plenty of others to put the sim card in the wrong way.
Edit: I nearly did it myself as well. Not that I am any expert, believe me.
So I've had my OnePlus One for about a month now, been running perfectly up until this morning. When I woke up and grabbed my phone it was really hot, which was strange considering it hasn't been used for 9 hours, and it wasn't responding when I tried to wake it up. I had to do a hard reset and it has been fine for the rest of the day. I was just wondering if this might be a sign of a more serious problem or maybe it was just an app that crashed hard?
In which case "I don't think you understand" is way off the reservation.
Yeah, that guy is pretty hostile. Don't think I'll be responding to him anymore :(
Back on topic, pretty happy with the phone other than it being quite slippery (sandstone) without a case. Might look into one of those third party denim/camo textured backs.
Anyone find it somewhat laggy while going to the emotion-cons on Skype? It's a minor delay and it really bugs me. Talking to two people at once is also annoying, the return to contacts and re selecting another contact feels somewhat slow. Anyone know why? or is it just me, just wanted to know. Is it Skype on Android in general?
Short of changing every saved contact to +61, anyone know why that is happening?
Let this change them for you: https://play.google.com/store
Let this change them for you: https://play.google.com/store
was actually looking for something like this a while ago....would have saved me exporting my google contacts to csv and then writing some excel formulas to format the numbers
Just pray you don't get one with touchscreen issues. Sometimes it's nigh unusable.
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-55
The 38R update did nothing for me.
Did anyone have this same issue and fixed it with another with any other ROM?
The speculation is it is either grounding problem or firmware for the screen.
Download the Multitouch tester from play store.
I think it is better but still unresolved.
Overall, I don't see much benefit from 38R.
How many inputs is it meant to detect? Mine does 4 smoothly and 5 is very glitchy. I hit 10 but it glitches all around the place. Is this normal? I read that it's meant to be 10 able to be detected at once.
I get occasional extra-touches when I double-tap to wake the screen. Sometimes it'll wake with a widget held as if I had done a press-and-hold to relocate or delete the widget, even though I don't have a finger on the screen. And sometimes it'll have moved the widget as if I did a press-hold-drag-release. CM11s 38R.
Tried googling.. but no answer because its probably the simples solution
i feel way dumb.. but i just cant figure out where to change the alarm tone?
Its not in settings, sound or clock settings
Its not in settings, sound or clock settings
I can't find it either. Although it seems to be referenced in themes.
I'd install Timely instead. It's a much nicer clock app anyway, and you can set the alarm tones easily, and individually per alarm.
I can't find it either. Although it seems to be referenced in themes.
Its in the alarm clock, when you turn on the alarm clock it will shod you what ringtone is assigned, just select and choose another.
Got that off the OPO forum.
Will check out the app
thanks
Open the Clock app. Select the alarm tab (far left one). Press the little arrow under your chosen alarm. There's a little music note symbol with the current alarm tone listed next it. Select that to change your tone.
on 38r atm, bugs with my phone,
-data will drop out every now and again
-sound recording at festivals horrible!
-camera laggy
-phone will become laggy and unresponsive when browsing net and will have to hold power button to reset
-with auto brightness off it still changes brightness?
seems to be all so far, hopefully And L will solve all this and i can enjoy my otherwise quite decent phone :)
So after being disappointed by the release of the nexus 6 I decided to pull the trigger and get a OPO. Got it on Thursday, rooted it yesterday and so far really liking it :)
I'm giving the OPO another go. I asked DWI for a refund because of the gps issue I was having and something got lost in the translation and they are offering me a new replacement unit.
I really like the phone so instead of insisting on the refund I'm going for the replacement. One thing I found with the last phone was that there was no way I was going to get mms to work on Telstra with CM11s. I fiddled with apns for ages, which shouldn't have been necessary anyway, and only after flashing Mahdi rom would mms work... on the stock standard apns at that.
Has anyone got Telstra mms working on CM11s?
Did you have trouble sending or receiving MMS? Or both?
Both. That was with 38R. What was really weird is that everything worked perfectly on Mahdi rom.
Hopefully I'll have more luck with CM11S with my new phone when it arrives.

This review shows just about every feature possible. The man is a machine.
https://www.youtube.
So after 3 months without touch screen issues, today it has been terrible. So unresponsive, I've tried rebooting several times and it doesn't help. No idea what has happened. I had this issue in the early days but thought it had been fixed in an update.

haha thanks
will watch it at 2.0 speed
So if you had your time again would you update to 38R?
I would. The only trouble I have had which I don't like is that the % doesn't when I charge the phone with it switched off. I haven't noticed any other problems yet, anyway.

Some say it has got something to do with the phone running hot
Or if you use it in a hot environment. One guy said he took it to the desert once and the phone was totally unusable
I read that one oneplus forum. Let me try to search
Interesting. Could be a pita if it's a widespread problem. Not that I ever have my phone anywhere where it gets hot.
Could someone recommend me some NFC tags that are compatible with the 1+1 and where to purchase them?
Cheers!
Some say it has got something to do with the phone running hot
I've read that before. It's hardly hot though. I'm in Hobart today and it's cold and wet. Phone was fine last night again and now the touchscreen has gone crap in the last few minutes :-(

Might be less to do with the ambient temperature and more to do with the internal temp, such as when playing games or using GPS navigation
So far mine is performing really well, hope I don't end up with problems as I'm enjoying this phone so far
Has anyone managed to download the Presto anytime app from Google play? Its not available from the device and when I use a browser it says its not supported for my device. I've got the 64GB device... :(

Cheers,

It installs on my tablet fine, so maybe it is for tablets.
Thanks guys. Looks like its tablet only. I was thinking for a moment I was locked out of some apps. Installed fine on my tablet.
Thanks for the help guys.
Hi everyone, I'm really interested in the OPO.
Thing is, after reading through this thread there seems to be heaps of issues with the phone, or is that just the nature of this thread – where people who don't have problems don't post.

Yes, like EVERY OTHER PART OF THE INTERNET.
Woah, caps. *backs slowly away*
Some threads wax lyrical about phones...so I thought I'd ask the question.
Do you guys who own this phone think its worth buying ? Or is there to many bugs and issues that its not worth the drama?
i pulled the trigger recently.
should be here soon.
will report back.
coming from a note 2 and an equally ios / android fan.
I've used one for a bit, they're a great phone for the price. If you could use either ios or android it's a great phone and your wallet will be about $800 better off :)

There's plenty of OPO Fanboi's here.
But in reality theres also plenty of bugs that need dealing with.
Only problem I have is pinch to zoom going crazy. A reboot fixes the problem temporarily. It's a known issue that hopefully will be fixed soon. Not a deal breaker but annoying.
The big issue is that there are bugs... but not everyone has them.
My phone has been almost rock solid, unless I play with a kernel or something.
The only hardware issue I have had, has been ghost swipes for about 45 minutes one day. Other than that it has been faultless.
Are these ghost swipes on 38R?
Can you give a little more detail on what "ghost swipe" means to you on your phone please and why it took 45 minutes to stop/cease?
Do you guys who own this phone think its worth buying ? Or is there to many bugs and issues that its not worth the drama?
Worth it. I got mine last week and can happily say I haven't had any of the bugs mentioned.
I would say it's worth it. EVERY phone out there has bugs, some admittedly larger then others. It's something thats part of technology. I've owned a OPO for a good 3 months and I can say I love it. It's snappy and smooth. You may of read about the yellow band, It really isn't that noticeable in everyday use. I have it but I really don't realise unless I stare at it. It's a great phone, trust me. S5 Level Specs at $400~ AUD.

It was on 33r. I have a hard shell case on the back of my phone, and it was pinching on the right side of the phone.
It took a bit of detective work in order to see where it was coming from (45 minutes). I trimmed the shell case a little bit, so that the pinching stopped. So did the ghost swiping.
I would go to type something, and it would read something like plllppppllppplllplplplplp. Or the home page would suddenly move one to the right, never the left. Because I am using Nova, it would just keep going.
Just wondering if anyone has any issues with the Chinese version and vodafail 4g . Can't seem to get 4g connected.
So after being disappointed by the release of the nexus 6 I decided to pull the trigger and get a OPO
Same, I was waiting for the Nexus 6 to be released to replace my dying Nexus 4, but the price of it is ridiculous. Half of the appeal of the Nexus line was its cheap price, so I'm really not interested anymore.
I ordered my OPO from DWI with express post so hopefully it arrives this week.

They're pretty quick. I ordered mine off DWI ebay on thursday and it came in today.

Make sure that you are using the correct (current) APN. I think a few pages back, someone else had an issue with vodafone supplying the wrong APN.
Have a look here: whrl.pl/Rd7cWH

That's my opo only problem.
No ghost touches on mine but there's pinch-zoom issue that happens every 2-3 days requiring a reboot.
In all honesty, is this phone everything it's hyped up to be? Trying to get my paws on one and their website just can't handle the pre-order demand. Perhaps I should just order it off ebay or get a nexus 6. What does the current owners of this phone think?

imo the Nexus 6 is too big and it's expensive. The quickest and safest way to get an OPO is from DWI. Unless you are very sure of the aftersales and backup of an Ebay seller, don't go there.
My first OPO had a GPS problem and I'm waiting for my replacement from DWI now. The process has been a bit slower than I would have liked but otherwise has gone pretty smoothly.
Happy owner of the One here. Got this over a month ago. Gorgeous phone. Running CM11S 38R. It's a huge phone to use one-handed. All in all, it's the closest thing to a Nexus phone (and with much better camera than the N5).
Recently I've enabled the auto-brightness in CM11S, then I noticed the battery life become sh!t – At the end of one full day use the battery is at 8%. Screen on time (SOT) about 3 hours. Mostly using browser and no games.
Now I've disabled auto-brightness and the battery life is:
- 41% charge left
- 1d 2h on battery
- 3h 34m SOT, 35% screen
- 11% cell stanby
- 9% phone idle
- 8% andrioid system
Has anyone experienced battery drain issue with auto-brightness on?
Go to settings> Themes> Lock screen wallpapers> and here you need to browse your gallery to select your desired wallpaper for the lock screen.
Has anyone experienced battery drain issue with auto-brightness on?
No I have not seen that drastic change if I keep it on auto brightness. I mostly keep it auto though since I got it and I am happy with its SOT which is always 3+.
Go to settings> Themes> Lock screen wallpapers> and here you need to browse your gallery to select your desired wallpaper for the lock screen.
*slaps head*
Of course!
Thanks! :)
Has anyone experienced battery drain issue with auto-brightness on?
i was getting a full day use with around 5hrs SOT with auto brightness. I manually set it to 100% the other day while I was outside, and forgot to change it back, and got only about 3hrs SOT with a day usage.
what brightness % have you set it to manually? While on auto, it will obviously use different amounts of battery depending on how bright a situation you're in with the screen on.
Has anyone experienced battery drain issue with auto-brightness on?
FYI, you can change the auto-brightness tolerances based on how much brightness is detected by the phone's lux sensor.
Swipe down to bring up the brightness slider, turn on auto-brightness, and you'll see a 'settings' icon to the right of the brightness slider. Tap that, and it'll
let you set the sensitivity to preset levels, OR you can tap 'adjust' and it'll present you with sliders to adjust brightness values for custom-defined lux ranges. You can even set these ranges yourself.
It's incredibly detailed and allows you to fine-tune to an infinite degree.
Only problem I've had with the phone is when I pinch to zoom and it scrolls the page up or down away from what I was trying to zoom in to, which is a bit annoying.
Apart from that really liking the phone, the double tap to wake works really well, screen is nice and big and its not that much heavier than my n5. Still getting used to the size, doesn't fit in my pockets as good as the n5 did.
Flashed Mahdi ROM yesterday, my OPO feels more like a nexus than the Nexus 6 (which looks more like re-badged Moto X)
Just wondering if anyone has any issues with the Chinese version and vodafail 4g . Can't seem to get 4g connected.
I had a loooked.... and my International OPO does not get 4G, its connected to H+(@5Mbps) on Voda.
When I had my Telstra Prepaid SIM... I was getting LTE (@28Mbps).
I am at carlton(4g area).
So had the OPO for 1 day now, and I'm somewhat surprised to say the phone feels small compared to the Note 2 I had previously! Both phones have 5.5 inch screens but it must be the aspect ratio of the OPO that makes it feel smaller! Starting to think the Nexus 6 wouldn't have been too big.
Why flashed to Mahdi ROM? In perticular reason for doing that?
I used it for a long time on my n5 and got used to it. Has a few extra features that I like. Main one being on the lock screen I can shake the phone to activate/deactivate having to enter my pin.

Off the top of my head it's 4 or 5 mill narrower. That's a lot of difference in the hand.
OnePlus One: 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm
Nexus 6: 159.3 x 83 x 10.1 mm
As you can see the N6 is about 7mm wider than the OPO and a bit thicker too, i think that would make it feel too big for me as the OPO is pushing the limits
EDIT: Note 2 dimensions are: 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm

+1. A real handful. (N6)

possibly, or vodafone don't have 4g in your area?

edit: use this as your device "generic – 4G 1800". As 1800 is the voda 4g band the oneplus uses, according to the wiki.
@salem, I get roughly 3 – 3.5 hours SOT with auto-brightness on. Most of the SOT was spent indoor (office, commute on trains). And yes, right now I manually set the screen to very dim, may be that's why the battery life improved so much.
FYI, you can change the auto-brightness tolerances based on how much brightness is detected by the phone's lux sensor.
Yeah, already tweaked the sliders. I only changed the low lux sliders (mainly for making screen dimmer in indoor / low light environment). I didn't increase any sliders. I'll try to change the "high lux" sliders after my next charge.
I also enabled all the options, e.g.:
- Adjust for day & time
- Adaptive backlight
- Sunlight enhancement
- Color enhancement
- Sensitivity: High
I wonder if any of these options are particular power hungry?
possibly, or vodafone don't have 4g in your area?
Thanks Salem.
It in 4G Coverage. I am not complaining as the H+ is fast enough for Youtube, web browsing and liveleak.
Sunlight enhancement
Does increase power, as it maximises display brightness and contrast in order to make the screen more readable in direct sunlight.

How does this compare with the nexus 5 or upcoming 6? I broke my 5 and was going to wait and get the 6 but the price is a little out of my range. Any recommendations on the one plus or repurchase the 5?

From my perspective the n5 and the one plus are very similar in terms of the user experience. The one plus is the closest thing you will get to an n5/nexus experience
I would sum it up as
One plus Pros;
Larger screen
Larger battery/longer screen on time
Slightly better SoC
Better Camera
The loud speakers are louder
One plus Cons;
The physical size of the phone makes it harder to use one handed and fit in pockets
I think the ear piece speaker isn't as loud/clear but having only had the phone a week need more time to test
In general if you like the n5 you will like the one plus
I think the ear piece speaker isn't as loud/clear but having only had the phone a week need more time to test
When I use earphones with mine I certainly can't have it up all the way or it would blow my ear drums apart.
One plus Cons;
The physical size of the phone makes it harder to use one handed and fit in pockets
Hardly a valid con imo. If you are going to step into phablet territory one handed use is obviously going to be more difficult or non existent depending on the size of your hands. It's a given.
And even then, difficult one handed use could only be described as a con if one handed use is important to the individual.
When I use earphones with mine I certainly can't have it up all the way or it would blow my ear drums apart.
Same.
When I use earphones with mine I certainly can't have it up all the way or it would blow my ear drums apart.
I was talking about the phones earpiece used for phone calls. Usually headphones or ear buds having no relation to the quality of the built in earpiece
Hardly a valid con imo. If you are going to step into phablet territory one handed use is obviously going to be more difficult or non existent depending on the size of your hands. It's a given.
Of course it's valid in response to the person who i replied to
Also, there is no clear and distinct line in the sand between what is a phone and what is a phablet. This comes down to the individual and what they deem appropriate
Ease of use is always a factor and the opo is harder to use, i would still recommend it though as the pros outweigh the cons
Of course it's valid in response to the person who i replied to
Can't see your logic there. He didn't mention size and if he's considering a N6 it doesn't sound like size is a big deal to him.
And as far as the OPO being harder to use, it's not if you use 2 hands. One handed use may be important to you, and that's fair enough, but it's not for everybody.
Can't see your logic there. He didn't mention size and if he's considering a N6 it doesn't sound like size is a big deal to him.
He didn't mention a bunch of things, so should we not talk about anything because he didn't mention it?
I was being objective rather than assume to think i know what people who I know nothing about value
It's extremely valid to compare the size differences between two devices and how this may impact use
You are imposing your personal preference on this situation and I don't know why
Also, I was considering the n6 but eventually ruled it out due to it's size and ugliness. Who's to say what point people are at with their own decision making process?
Hardly a valid con
Yeah tell that to all the reviewers that say the same as Lewythefly, stop being anal views on comparo's takes everything into account.
Of course it's valid in response to the person who i replied to
i'd agree. say we were comparing the note series to the opo / n5. i'd say note has a nod there, being easier to use one handed. the shrink screen thingo from touchwiz is something i miss every day (still on my note 2, but using CM11). it's also WAYYYY better than apples "solution". i'd actually go back to TW based roms for that feature alone. that, and the ridiculous amounts of bugs and crashes in the CM version i'm running.
So I was looking at getting either the Moto X or Nexus 6 but this phone has certainly caught my attention the past few days. Might be a good alternative since the other two will probably be out of my price range.
How would the updates be for this phone? Would it be as fast as Google?
Any one experience any software issues (I watched a review video just then and it mentioned lag: probably nitpicking)?
Do we have any ideas when Android 5.0 Lollipop will be available and if they will be modifying it a lot? Also, do you recommend buying from the OnePlus one store and using 3rd party delviery systems to get it to Sydney, or just buy one from ebay? Cheers.
Any one experience any software issues (I watched a review video just then and it mentioned lag: probably nitpicking)?
Lots have and lots haven't.
Its completely random in how the bugs affect different OPO's and if they do at all.
Do we have any ideas when Android 5.0 Lollipop will be available
Three months after Google release source. Historically CM always beats every phone outside Nexus and Silver programs.
will be modifying it a lot?
No, just preserving the current CyanogenMod features as usual.
do you recommend buying from the OnePlus one store and using 3rd party delviery systems to get it to Sydney, or just buy one from ebay?
DWI is your best bet.
DWI is your best bet.
out of stock from the other thread.
If you can't wait for an invite or jump in on the pre-order a reseller is best. There's a small difference in radio frequencies from oneplus to oppo nothing that will affect you in OZ.
oppo's phone doesn't have the cyanogen branding and that's about it. Aside from the OS, in that it's either ColourOS or they'll flash it to CM11.
DWI is your best bet.
out of stock from the other thread.
Cant find anywhere that says DWI out of stock.
Wife purchased one from the DWI ebay store 2 days ago.. no response so far.
Should i be looking elsewhere?
Cant find anywhere that says DWI out of stock.
this may clarify their dodgy practices on their website.
Three months after Google release source. Historically CM always beats every phone outside Nexus and Silver programs.
Huh?
What do you mean by CM beats every phone outside Silver programs?
But yes just like a lot of the popular custom ROMs, once the source for L is released it wont be long until CM develop their ROM based on L for the OPO
out of stock from the other thread.
Might depend on the model/colour. My 64gb White with ColorOS left their store yesterday.
Is anyone else having issues with the GPS on the OPO?
I can seem to get an initial lock but it takes ages however it will never continue to track location and just remains idle on the spot.
Only issue with the OPO so far other than PayPal app not working.
Is anyone else having issues with the GPS on the OPO?
I use my GPS everyday. So far, over the last 2 months or so it has been faultless.
Is anyone else having issues with the GPS on the OPO?
No issues, and I use it for walking/cycling every day, and maps/navigation every so often.
There have been issues reported with it, however.
Is anyone else having issues with the GPS on the OPO?
I believe a member here lotan had the same trouble and sent the phone back under warranty to DWI.
How does this compare with the nexus 5 or upcoming 6? I broke my 5 and was going to wait and get the 6 but the price is a little out of my range. Any recommendations on the one plus or repurchase the 5?
I have the OPO and N5. N5 screen is better to me. Overall N5 is a better phone. Unless you need the big 5.5 screen.
That are just my thoughts. Don't get caught up in all the hype.
What do you mean by CM beats every phone outside Silver programs?
Historically when a new version of Android is out a CyanagonMod release is out in under a month.
Most manufacturers take a year to update their phones or don't bother.

I know this, wasn't debating this, as I stated above CM will roll it out soon after source is released just like all the popular (and even obscure) ROM developers.
For instance I am running Mahdi ROM, I'd bet it (L) will be out for the OPO at roughly the same time as CM, if not sooner due to them not supporting as many devices as CM does

You mentioned the "Silver Program"...... sounded like you were making it up? I've seen no Silver phone or specific details of any "program" other than rumour
ANyway, will be good to get L on the OnePlus when it does happen, even just the improved battery life will be great alone

Interesting, can you explain in a little bit more detail how you came to this?
Hmmm that is quite annoying...
May have to factory reset the phone :( I bought it from OPO directly so sending it back would be a pain.
You mentioned the "Silver Program"...... sounded like you were making it up? I've seen no Silver phone or specific details of any "program" other than rumour
Ah, I meant Google Play editions (HTC One, Galaxy S5). My mistake.
stop being anal
Not being anal at all.
Yeah tell that to all the reviewers that say the same as Lewythefly....
Are these the same reviewers who complain about the size of a phablet in the first paragraph of a review? They never cease to amuse me. Anything with a 5.5" or larger screen is going to be a handful. Any prospective buyer can see that.
Interesting, can you explain in a little bit more detail how you came to this?
Just initial thoughts after using both phones. I am not knocking the OPO but just trying to have a balanced perspective. The OPO can lag a touch on occasion as I noticed in several comprehensive reviews. The N5 never lagged in touch for myself on any app. As I now scroll through the OzBargain app it hesitates just a little. The screen of the N5 looks more vibrant and precise. The oneplus one, is a fantastic form factor and weight. The N5 is a great but casing it not as nice.
It could just be that after listening and reading multiple and comprehensive video reviews and articles that my expectations were too high and after using the N5 for 12 months that bar was set pretty high. I also own the N4 so noticed the huge leap when I got the N5. I did not notice that huge leap in the OnePlus as expected. This is only my view but lets see as time goes on. I was merely cautioning getting in to the hype too much.
To clarify, I bought the Chinese variant with the very latest stock Cyanogen. Others experiences might be different.
EDIT – The touch issue was meant to be addressed in the 38R which I am using but I still notice it.

Yeah, as I said the user experience between the N5 and the OPO is very similar, if people are expecting a big step up from the N5 then they will be disappointed. That being said I think both phones perform very very well so its hard to improve on the performance of the N5 anyway.
I have had a few instances of some slightly buggy behaviour on the OPO, it may be a tad less stable than the N5, but in general it seems to perform as good as the N5 from what I have seen to date. Maybe if a few more bugs can be ironed out this wont be as noticeable in the near future

Yes, you have given perfect perspective here. People need to consider this. But I had to try. Couldn't help it. I have a tech weakness.
I came from a Galaxy S. I think smacking 2 rocks together is an improvement over that, so the OPO is leagues better.
I can't compare it with any current series phones, except for my wife's S5. I think I'll keep the OPO. I don't like being nobbled by in-house software.
FWIW, I don't get any lag, and I run Sky Safari Pro (1.18GB), which also controls a fairly expensive telescope from the phone.
I think the only current issue I have is occasional sudden reboots. I suspect that it has something to do with the Franco kernel. I just had one about 15 minutes ago, but the most recent one before that was about 3 weeks ago.

EDIT – The touch issue was meant to be addressed in the 38R which I am using but I still notice it.
Try the latest franco kernel released today – has big touch improvements.
On 38r and can no longer record phone calls.
Very annoying as I'm dealing with insurance ATM.
I want to like this phone but the problems just keep coming.
Edit:
Also cannot turn hapatic feedback off on the keyboard, sometimes its on sometimes not.
Pretty sure the latest update from a couple of weeks back removed my root. Is that normal? When I open up SuperSU it says "No root binary found. If you have recently updated you need to manually re-root."
Has anyone else had to re-root?
Just wondering if anyone got the white version?
Is it the same 'sand paper' feel compare to the black version? Or is it like a glossy feel?
I want to put a flygrip on it, so if the white one has a glossy material it'll apply better with it?

The white back phone is apparently smooth.

lol love your humour. You're right as is Lewy-fly, if you're coming from a older slow phone generation you'll love any phone with the spec's the oneplus has. So it does come down to what phone you're coming from to the oneplus. Big jump in performance and features- Big jump in feelings towards it. Small jump in performance- small feelings towards it.
The feeling is no different when upgrading to faster PC's, buying a better tablet.... Me coming from a symbian device I reckon it'll be huge, performance and functions it will be able to do.

Pretty sure this is normal. I havent had to update my OPO yet since I just got it Monday, but it used to always happen on my wifes Nexus 5.
Its just a simple matter of flashing the su zip again via recovery so no big deal. However, you might need to flash a custom recovery again if you didnt untick the box in developer options "update cm recovery".
Has anyone else had to re-root?
yup. I had already unlocked my bootloader and installed custom recovery (TWRP) while on 33R. So after I updated to 38R I just downloaded superSU v1.9something (I think he's into the 2.something now) to my internal "downloads" directory, rebooted into TWRP, chose 'flash zip (or whatever), and reflashed the superSU.zip.
Or maybe TWRP asked me automatically if I wanted to re-root after upgrading? I forget. I've done this stuff so many times over the years they all blur together.
Ok great, thanks. I always forget the steps to do this stuff so I'll hit the XDA forums and follow the steps there.
However, you might need to flash a custom recovery again if you didnt untick the box in developer options "update cm recovery".
This option was ticked on my phone. So that means I'll have to flash another custom recovery? Should I have this box unticked?
I am able to boot into my custom recovery which is cyanogen recovery, but I get errors when trying to flash my new supersu zip. I get "Install failed" with the errors "failed to verify whole-file signature" and "signature verification failed".
Any idea?

You'll wanna flash a Custom Recovery such as TWRP or CWM and then fix the SuperSU binary to regain full root
Should I have this box unticked?
That should be unticked.
Then once you complete root with your custom recovery and restart your phone, you need to go into SuperSU and in the settings, uncheck the "Respect CM root settings" field. Titanium Backup wouldn't work for me until I did this.
Yeah, as I said the user experience between the N5 and the OPO is very similar, if people are expecting a big step up from the N5 then they will be disappointed.
Yep, the phones are not even 12 months apart in age.
Better camera and double the battery life of an N5 are the only noticeable things.
Hi everyone,
I managed to get a Oneplus One in the preorder on the 27th. I've been thinking about the glass screen and what would happen if I dropped the phone and managed to crack it – would the only option be to send it back to Oneplus One to repair? I've been really lucky with my HTC and it has survived lots of drops, but realising that I'm a bit clumsy I'm worried about the availability of local repair in Perth.
Thanks :)
This option was ticked on my phone. So that means I'll have to flash another custom recovery? Should I have this box unticked?
Yes because during the OTA update it would have put the stock CM recovery back
I am able to boot into my custom recovery which is cyanogen recovery, but I get errors when trying to flash my new supersu zip. I get "Install failed" with the errors "failed to verify whole-file signature" and "signature verification failed".
Thats the stock recovery, you cant flash the supersu zip because its unsigned and stock recovery only takes zips that are signed.
Any idea?
Just follow steps 2 and 3 here. You should already have your bootloader unlocked if you rooted previously so skip step 1.

Do I need to change any settings or do anything special to get this phone to pick up writing on objects in photos?
Tried to take a photo of a part at work today that had a part number etc on it, and it just couldn't get a focus on the text at all.
Any help?
Strange issue with my OPO alarm...
When I snooze or dismiss an alarm there's a constant crackling/humming/droning sound from the speaker.
The phone is completely responsive but the only way to get rid of the sound is to shut it down.
Any one else have this?

Hi, I've had this happen a couple of times with my email notification tone. The noise stopped each time when I clicked on the email notification.
Really have no idea why, or why it's only happened a couple of times.
Have you asked over in xda, or the oneplus forums ? Any response?
Cheers,
is there anyway to toggle to 120fps mode for shooting video instead of having to go through the settings menu?
what would happen if I dropped the phone and managed to crack it – would the only option be to send it back to Oneplus One to repair?
I see there is a seller on eBay, selling the digitizer/screens for about $148.
So you could buy one and replace it yourself. There are instructions online, for stripdown.
Tried to take a photo of a part at work today that had a part number etc on it, and it just couldn't get a focus on the text at all.
Are you tapping the screen to get it to focus on the text? I just took a photo of some very small text on the back of a chewing gum wrapper and it came up brilliantly and I had mine still on Auto settings
Hi, I've had this happen a couple of times with my email notification tone. The noise stopped each time when I clicked on the email notification.
Seems fairly simple question, but have you guys tried changing the music being played etc
Hi everyone,

Yes for warranty, as Oz is not a release country. (not sure who can repair one here) Buy a very good case and Tempered glass protector that you can use as soon as your unit arrives. I installed a tempered glass on my OPO and I am impressed. I also grabbed a Ringke fusion case.
does it matter that much buying the color os version from t – dimensions ? im stick of waiting and dwi do not have stock at the moment.
t – dimensions says no google play store? is it hard to get it on there?
t – dimensions says no google play store? is it hard to get it on there?
You just need to flash CM11S
and this gives u google play store etc?
dunno, I don't think so. You need to flash gapps http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps, but if it were me I'd flash the rom of my choice and gapps from the get go and start from there.
Using manual brightness for 2 full days. 5h 45m Screen On Time with one charge :). So it seems that the battery and the screen are working fine.
I'm testing with Sunlight Enhancement – OFF, and using the following auto-brightness settings:
0 lux – 6%
5 lux – 9%
15 lux – 9%
50 lux – 11%
100 lux – 12%
200 lux – 12%
400 lux – 19%
1000 lux and up – Default values
Anyone know at what lux does the Sunlight Enhancement kicks in?
can some 1 please fill me in? as i have just purchased a color os model via t-dimension
You'll just flash the phone, you can follow this instructions, I'm in the middle of doing it myself to my ColorOS phone that arrived today.
http://forum.xda-devel
Once you have a custom recovery set up you can then follow the install instructions for your rom of choice, I have chosen Mahdi.
id prefer to just put cyanogenmod on it.
The proper full rom of CM11s includes gapps, as cyanogen got approval from Google to include it for the OnePlus one specifically. Regular CM11 for other phones will not include gapps.
Anyone occasionally getting their battery stats looking unnaturally sparse sometimes?
https://plus.googl
CM11S already has gapps. Just get the latest factory image from here (scroll to the bottom):
https://cyngn.com/products/oneplusone/
To flash that there's a link in the wiki.
Other roms you would need to flash gapps

Looks normal to me. When you use it the graph trends down and when you don't it flattens out ??
