O.P.

Hi, has anyone else who has updated experienced a significant drop in battery life? I updated my phone 2 days ago and now the battery will barely last a day from a full charge, my usage has not changed.

Also same, can sometimes take 10 secs for screen to register the first ctouch when turning the screen on.

i can confirm the phone takes ages to register the first touch when bringing the phone out of standby... i.e. when i try to double-tap the phone to unlock it, nothing happens for ages... its kind of annoying because when i try to do something with the phone it doesn't respond.

Also, the phone is now more laggy – or unresponsive. For example, sometimes when sms messaging with the onboard keyboard, either the key doesn't register, or when i press the key on the keyboard the key gets stuck for a while and doesn't release on the screen.

This was when i updated with the new software update version 3.7.15. Before that when i was on the standard 3.7 software there was none of these issues.

Any solutions anyone ?

Okay well, I guess I will leave my wife's phone alone then.

It does what it needs to do quite adequately with Android 1.6. I wont mess it up for her.

My battery life is better.

After Update had to Ring Optus support because my phone would divert all incoming calls to voicemail.

They somehow reset my configuration and everything is back to Normal.

looks like they have removed the v3.7.15 update from the garmin-asus (Australian) website. Hopefully they come up with a fix real soon.

Yeah just noticed also. My battery life somehow is back to normal, no change in the amount of usage. Anyway agree, hope they fix the other issues with the update.

Mine is a couple of months old and it came with 3.7.5 (No issue it works, stock standard and the battery lasts a few days with moderate use). The only downside is, when it is dashboard mounted and it is a hot day it tends to over heat and shutdown. That is a major issue as it points to design flaws in heat dissipation, when used as a GPS navigator, if it is overheating now before the full onset of summer, I would hate to see how long it lasts in the midst of summer.

I have been looking around for updates and came across the spec for the A10 in Singapore .. It runs Android 2.1 (Eclaire): http://www.garminasus.com/en_SG/phones/a10/specs.html

The software update in Singapore is also up to version: v5.0.66
http://www.garminasus.com/en_SG/support/a10-software-updates.html

I wonder, why Garmin and Optus are using an older version of Android (1.6) in AU?

posted 2010-Nov-10, 3:15 pm AEST

I would suspect that Optus took in a shipment of the things 6 months ago with the old firmware, and the haven't sold. So now they're trying to dump them cheaply.

posted 2010-Nov-10, 3:45 pm AEST

That is probably likely, but why not put the 2.1 version on the AU support site also? It all seems very clumsy. It couldn't be the Optus specific apps, since those already work on Android 2.1/2.2 with other hardware that Optus sells. The phone seem to have the same spec, although CPU on the Singapore page is not mentioned.

Very clumsy indeed.

The same old story since July/10.And I now have A10+A50.
For info purchased A50, inserted Telstra Sim and after waiting to renew Pre-Paid, now up and running.

I now have a unit that is 90/95% GPS as well as 75/85 % Phone

Garmin/Asus support advise both A10/A50 are Network Free.
He also advised that A10/50, would default to Telstra Next G Network ,
when another network was not available.
This I can Confirm. Have to check out my A10 with Vodaphone Sim)
And will report over the next 2 /3 days.

Garmin A50 before upgrade to 2.1 was the same as A10,
Now A50, with 2.1 upgrade is so much responsive,
there are other learning curves.

These Units are not perfect but come close.

Without future support, if I was asked could not recommend.

But at ¼ 1/5 the price of Iphone go for it.

We have 2 A10's and have had a number of issues with the Google Maps updates conflicting with the built in GPS software so that it keeps crashing and the Recently Found addresses button no longer works.

A quick hard reset and everything is back to normal. This also solved the short battery life issue. We reinstalled everything else and it works well. I think it might even be a bit faster? (Turn the phone off and hold the Volume down button while you turn it back on to reset it. The screen will turn blue ** Wipe user data **. Once it's back on you have to go to settings -> Sync -> Google and log in again. This will return your google calendar, email and contacts – it does take a few mins though so don't stress that your contacts are missing at first)

We use them to view and edit each others google calendars (in different colours) and to flick quick emails (gmail) to eachother and it's all working flawlessly. You can add appointments via the web or the phone and we get an SMS and an update in a matter of seconds. It's free and it really does work well so I'm about to get a third unless some amazing tablet comes out that can make calls without a headset.

The GPS is really accurate and hasn't let me down yet *touch wood*

I very much doubt it as the updates are carrier specific.
