Gday Guys,
Got the 3gs the other day and as a new iphone user ive never had a case.
Now i was thinking i would buy something over the net and wait for it to come but its becoming more and more annoying treating the phone with kid gloves so i need to go to a retail shop to get a case tomorrow.
My choice is probably JB hifi as they are the only apple retailer i can think of in the area..
What would ur choice of cases be from jb hifi?
I know :( and that has been the story with all my phones including the N96 i just recently had.
Decided to no go with a case for that and its missing chunks and scratched to the shithouse.
So truth is im a rough bastard and probably am going to need a bit of protection :)
Or buy an InvisibleShield/BodyGuardz!
Highly recommended.
ohhh they still make this sorta stuff hmm i used to have it on my old clickwheel back in the day
but can i get it at jb or a similar retailer?
My brother picked up one for me today from harvey norman.
I'm not real fond of phones cases but this one fits very well and I don't think it looks too bad. I'll probably take it off when the novelty wears off
:P

I've seen lots of cases in non apple retailers, like DSE or even Target.
I personally haven't put anything on my phone (3G). I've had it for a few months, dropped it a few times and there's just a few light scratches on the screen (only visible when the screen is reflecting light).

yeh its a bit of an each to there own sorta thing.
i know if i have to look at this thing everyday for 12 months i want it to look new and at the end of the 12 months if apple decide to upgrade again it will still be it good selling cond
I got this from the Optus store. Seems to work really well, it feels hard and sturdy, and somewhat scratch resistant; it also isn't too bad on the eyes either.

I would not recommend invisibleshield:
1. bodyguardz is the cheaper (cheaper and you also get two sets just in case you make a mistake on first attempt)
2. orange peel effect
The bodyguardz doesn't have the orange peel effect. I've owned these two products.
I'm a bit anal with my iPhone cases. I found the harder shell types (depends on product) will damager your iphone instead of protecting it. It will leave marks when removing/installing. Brands like switcheasy know this which is why they always have a silicone/soft material before the harder shell get's installed.
Also, I personally think that a silicone solution is better. I've been more scared of my phone dropping when there is a hard shell on it compared to when it has a thick silicone which I think absorbs the impact a lot more. I'm also protective of the earphone and dock ports, which is why I only get cases that have them. I've used switcheasy rebels and colours, great cases. I've just purchased an iskin revo2 which has integrated port protectors, I haven't used it yet as my iPhone 3GS is still in the box and I'm unboxing it now. Currently backing up my older 16gb 3G preparing to restore it to the 3GS.
I have more cases then you can poke a stick at. Black ones, white ones, clear ones. In the end they all come off and stay off. Gone naked. (except for a screen protector.) I figure I'm careful enough and a case hides it which defeats the purpose of getting it. I want to enjoy the look and feel in my hand. A case no matter how thin changes the whole thing. IS would be the way to go except the look crap on the white.
Or buy an InvisibleShield/BodyGuardz!
Where the hell can i buy this?! is it online only?
is there a store that stock them in melb area?
I've used bestskinsever.com for my current iPhone skin and my previous iPhone skin as well as screen protector for my windows mobile device. They are great and really cheap (about US$10 inc postage for a skin).
On my previous iPhone I had a screen protector fitted and a body protector, that worked great, for my new on I'm only going to fit the body protector as I think the iPhone screen is very hard wearing whereas the back will get scratched very very easily when placing on a table etc.

where can i buy air jacket and InvisibleShield/BodyGuardz ?
How much are they ?
Can someone please let me know where I can buy BodyGuardz in Sydney City includes (CBD, Bondi Junction)
same for above ^^ i live in Melbourne and trying to find Switcheasy Neo capsule, checked chadstone no luck >.< , now Im finding invisible shield or any screen protectors that protect back and front. Where do i find them in Melbourne?
in regards to the switcheasy stuff, I bought off ebay for $27 UPS shipped (San Fran USA) a switcheasy colors. brand new, was here within a week. Been happy with it thus far :) feels good, grips surfaces, but is easy enough to slide in and out of the pocket, and any lint wipes straight off with your hand. Dropped it once, and was quite happy with the soft thud :)
I think this is looking really good

Please let me know if its worth buying. Also how long the shipping takes ?

Bought one of these before. Great quality, exactly the same as the Invisible Shield in my eyes. I've used both. Shipping is fairly good, about a week or so from the US.
thanks benneb2. Just like to confirm that this product is like a scratch proof coating. It doesn't have any cushion sorta protection ,right ?
Fusion by contour totally as if it's not even there and protects the whole phone screen included however @ $44.95 in Apple store :( but pick it up off ebay for about $30.00AUD delivered

Yeah just a scratch proof coating. Should do wonders for your resale value if you put it on as soon as you get your iPhone, virtually impossible to scratch.

You won't be disappointed :)
I bought power support anti-glare film for $20 when i picked up my 3gs last friday, so far it's the best film i've ever used. Ordered two BSE skin for the rear for $21 plus shipment, a twin set of griffin wave case for $24 from ebay. I might use these combined together to protect my iphone.
Where did you buy that and how much?

I got my from Apple store in Sydney.
I had my iphone replaced and asked the genious what case he recommended.
He showed me his Iphone which had an air jacket. Then yelled to a few other staff and 3 other staff pulled out their iphones with air jackets.
So I bought one.
It comes with 2 screen protectors (normal and anti-reflective) which retail for $20 each and the case.
It has kept the back of my Iphone 100% scratch free. Not even those tiny little swirls in the sunlight show up.
Got 2 of these ordered, one for me and one for the missus. They look shit hot imo.

You can pick them up from http://rushfaster.com.au/SWITCHEASY-STORE/SWITCHEASY.html but they are out of alot of stock.
I picked mine up off ebay.
apple store or apple online store
Thanks but unfortunately I live in Canberra so no apple store.. and the apple online store doesn't express post and I need it before the end of the week preferably, as I'm going away on along drive and need a case that will fit in my griffin roadtrip, my switcheasy rebel doesn't.
Also anyone looking for the switcheasy cases, just head into an optus store, they sell them all there, that's where I got mine.
i picked up a switcheasy rebel serpent in black from TeleChoice and its great.. fits perfect!! Definitley recommend it! www.ilounge.com rated it an A!! :)
It comes with 2 screen protectors (normal and anti-reflective) which retail for $20 each and the case.
Just a slight correction here – the screen protectors sell in a pack of 2 for $20 on the Apple store. I.e. you can buy 2 normal for $20 or 2 anti-reflective for $20 for those that only want a screen protector.
Right now i got a black iluv back casing which is pretty slimline and a screen protector on the front.. it still looks good imo and feels ok in the hand but i am considering ordering a nice leather pouch to keep it in and throw the back case in the bin.. just leave the screen protector on it?
This way when its in your pocket etc its totally protected. Then when you get to work or home just leave it out of the pouch on your desk or wherever.
I am undecided whether to do this or not to worry about it and leave back case on it. I have trained myself to not put anything esle in the pocket where my iphone resides. I'm pretty careful about it now.
I am using the Sena case from the Apple store with a screen protector. Works like a treat. Slim package. But can be a pain trying to answer the phone as I have to slip it out of the leather case.
Thats the only thing i dont like haveing to get it out of the leather pouch to answer the phone.. after getting it out of your pocket..
that is the main draw back i can see.
I went to apple website they are asking for $39++ how did u get that for $20? For black iphone do you recommend clear or black AIRJACKET ?
So I bought one.

I saw SwitchEasy Neo Capsule (both white and black) in CompNow Doncaster, Melbourne when I pick up my iPhone 3GS last Friday.
Get the SwitchEasy RebelSerpent. I got mine for my 3GS, its good quality although bit expensive $40 goes with 2 x screen protectors and a little plastic stand for movies.
There are so many cases out there I was gonna just pick one randomly but after reading alot of posts here i made this decisions. InvisibleShield peels off after a few months....and Specks are too colourful for my liking and I hate the button being covered.
Does the Power Support Air Jacket have a matte feel to it? I think it's like the Moshi one, but that has a disgusting circle cutout so you can see the on the back.
Think I'll get one at the store Chadstone tomorrow. I botched my Invisible Shield application massively – and I don't even like the feel of the film either.
I am so lost can someone please help me pick one :

I am a first time iPhone 3GS user and picked up a Switcheasy Capsule Rebel from the Optus World Store, Wynyard, Sydney for $34.95. Extremely happy with it. Good combo of soft silicon and sturdy plastic exoskeleton (as they call it).
I reccomend either the Switcheasy CapsuleRebel (most stores sell them for 40 bucks, Optus stores used to sell them for 30, some mgiht still sell them at this price) or the speck PixelSkin (great case for protection, and the feel of the case itself is quite good).
Got me one of these...
http://catalog.belkin.com/IW
Almost as awesome as the phone, looks all executive and well protected, plus nobody can easily call me an 'iPhone w*nker' without waiting for me to open it ;)
http://www.uniqueinfotech.com.au have stock of both types of Power Support film which has excellent reviews on ilounge.
They are $20 each (anti-glare & Crystal) and can be collected at no cost from their offices in Brunswick, VIC – otherwise delivery is $16.00.
Hope this helps someone.

Yep, I hear that both of these are great cases, but I can't get over the look of them, too rugged/plastic for me....
Going case hunting on the weekend, wish me luck.....
Catch of the Day have a few Apple accesories today, including a few iPhone cases. Most of them are cheap crappy DLO (speaking from personal experience), but the Speck Pixelskin is going for only ten bucks (ussualy retails for like forty bucks) and it's an awesome case (best silicon case ever).
Went into the Apple Store Chadstone and tried both a Air Jacket (black) and an Incase Slider Case.
I went with the Slider Case – they feel exactly the same, but the slider case protects the chrome bezel whereas the Air Jacket doesn't.
Feels really nice to hold, and it's just like their MacBook covers (if you've seen/felt these, you'll know they're really nice).
http://www.goincase.com/prod
Overpriced for sure though, $54.95.

Yep, just saw these at the Apple Store too, for $39.95.
I am waiting for my switcheasy to arrive, a workmate of mine has it and it looks reall sturdy and nice, not your average cheap casing.
as for screen protector, i use bodyguardz, i am not sure how scratch resistant it really is, but i can say that it goes on so nicely, can hardly tell there is a screen protector when you first glance at it, and no orange peel effect, nice to feel too

That air jacket does look good and you can still see most of the chrome bezel.. with my iluv case you can only see a thing strip of chrome bezel around it.

If you're willing to spend just a little extra, I'd highly recommend the Slider Case from Incase. Used it today and absolutely love how it feels.
What are you trying to achieve with the cases? I personally don't care about scratches but I'm paranoid I'll crack the screen by dropping it, what do you think would be a good case that would afford some 'drop' protection?
What are you trying to achieve with the cases?
Non-slip, nicer feel in the hand, cover chrome bezel/logo from scratches and a bit of bump protection.
Cases are there primarily to protect the phone from day to day scratches and unnecessary wear and tear.
If you dont give a sh1t about your phone then there is no need for a case.
Alot of us want to keep our phones in a1 condition for when it comes time to sell.
When the new iphone comes out in say a year, alot of us will most likely look at options to upgrade and that would be to sell our current iphones. If it is immaculate it will be an easy sell and fetch decent money. If it is scratched to buggery then it will be hard to sell and wont get anywhere near the amount of money back for it.
Drop protection is obviously a factor included in the above wanting to keep it in good condition.
If the phone was 100 percent scratch free and indestructible (for humour sake) then no one would have a case as it does take away some of the aesthetics.
I'm looking for something to protect the back and the chrome bezel from scratches. Thinking about picking up the iSkin Solo (http://www.iskin.com/solo/?cart=1246637249375539)
Any thoughts or user experiences?

Selv, do you know if you can pick up one of these at a retail store over here rather than ordering online?
This is the best for me so far. I have gone through:
- casemate leather case (protects chrome bit, but goes too far and makes using the touchscreen around the edges a pain)
- air jacket (sucks because it does not protect chrome bit, and u can get bits of dust stuck between the chrome bit and the screen)
- leather case from jb (same issue as the casemate, thought it'd be better as the entire front is not covered)
The iSkin solo is the best one so far. the silicon is not rubbery so it does not catch dust and lint, and if it does, it is easy to wipe off. It protects the chrome bit, and doesn't go so far out onto the screen. It has a low profile so it doesn't interfere with the touchscreen.
My only complaint is it seems I have bought two, and one of them makes clicking the power button top right harder than the other, so there may be consistency issues with its production.
I agree with Scorpians' post...below.....
AIR JACKET is by far the best I have found.
ditto! Just got mine yesterday and love it! It's so thin it's still good to fit in a car dock!
I found these ones:
http://ledshoppe.com/Product/ts/TS1034.htm
You get what you pay for maybe? But it would be worth the US$6 investment!
ditto!
+1 for the Air Jacket.
"Ultra thin, ultra light, our satin rubberized air jacket is virtually as thin as air. Measuring 1mm, the jacket snugly hugs the back of your iPhone"
Comes with 2 screen protectors.
Has negligible impact on the look of a black iPhone 3G/S but IMO makes it much less slippery and comfortable in the hand. While I was going naked, I was always paranoid it'd slip out of my hand.
I bought this, really business class looking, does not feel rubbery inside your pocket or gathers dust. Does not hide the 'look' of your iphone so the silver metallic surrounding is all visible.
do you know if you can pick up one of these at a retail store over here rather than ordering online?
The StreetWise website has them so I'm assuming they can be bought from the store in Hawthorn (Melbourne). Not sure if there are any stores that stock the iSkin Solo.
koylez, where did you buy yours from?

You should've saved your money and just got the Incase Slider Case. It seems to tick all your boxes (and mine).
I'll take some photos of mine so you can take a look, it really is much better than the Air Jacket if you ask me. Just pricey..
Drop protection is obviously a factor included in the above wanting to keep it in good condition.
So what do you think would be the best case to offer drop protection? I'd happily buy one if i thought it was going to have an effect in that arena.
I'll take some photos of mine so you can take a look
I wouldn't mind seeing a few pictures. I've narrowed it down to the iSkin Solo and the Incase Slider.
Did you buy the Incase Slider from the online Apple Store? Does it come with a screen protector?

Does it come with a screen protector?
Nope, I don't want to bother as the new 3GS screen has a much nicer feel to it anyway. Will get some pics up shortly.
Has anyone tried the otterbox defender case and if so what are you're thoughts?
My job sees me in working in fairly harsh environments and I seem to always be dropping phones.
Another user of the Sena Ultra-Slim leather sleeve here. I'm not hard on my phone re dropping etc (touch wood!), but I do need to protect the screen from car keys etc in my handbag. This does the job perfectly and is not bulky at all.
It means I have to take the phone out of the case to use it, yes, but it's only been a week so far and I'm already used to it. Plus, also it means I get to use the iPhone in all its nekkid glory. :)
The case was certainly a firm fit initially but has loosened up nicely now – still very huggy so it definitely won't slip off, but easy to get the phone out as well.
Anyway, this works for me, and it may for others too. Particularly if you want to carry it in a (suit) pocket etc? As I said, it's not bulky at all.
Cheers
ETA: I also bought a screen protector, so when the phone is out of the case (pretty much only when I am actually using it), it's still protected from minor scratches (from earrings etc).
Catch of the day had some nice cases yesterday, but they didn't sell out so you can get some there for $10 with free postage.
DO NOT POST LINKS!! IT IS AGAINST FORUM RULES!!
I'm interested in one of these, what do you guys think?
It's a plastic back cover that snaps on.

Ok maybe I'm slow but how can you view or purchase any of these items? I logged into COTD then went to the ipod/iphone section from a couple of days back but when I click on any of the items it takes me back to the main screen and the current deal. Is this normal?

Links, per se, aren't prohibited, even if someone yells about it.

be wary of covers that go over the speaker I bought a Belkin one and it has a little tab over the speaker and it muffles the ring tone have just ordered the Air Jacket from Apple as its got cut outs

How many people who have had their iPhone for a while just have one case?
I'm on my 5th
cheap silicone case with a screen protector... Doesn't slide into your pocket nicely & gets stuck in my hair.
Griffin wave case... Bulky, but smooth in my hand. Hard to get on was very worried about doing dammage to my phone getting it on and off.
Sena leather dockable... Like it, get lots of comments. Phone feels very safe with the leather flap protecting the screen. But the corners are exposed and are scuffing a little.
On a wim last night ordered the vaja white limited edition. Worried about the camera corner getting scuffed but it's the sort of case I could sell on eBay and get at least half my money back if I don't like it.
How many people who have had their iPhone for a while just have one case?
I've had the iPhone 3G since its initial launch last year and from the first day I have been using a screen protector and a clear hard case for it.
It's been a year and still using them.
I've been looking for ages now and people think I'm an iPhone addict for having so many cases but the truth is that it's because I haven't found the ideal one. Anyway I may have found it, I'm not sure. Has anyone tried the otterbox defender case? I'm not worried about the bulk, I'm more worried about whether the touch sensitivity is affected at all when the iPhone is in it. Cheers.

for $29.99, one case + two anti-scratch screen protector, it's just perfect.

I am having a tough time deciding on which way I want to go case wise. I got a white iPhone and dont want to hide the nice whiteness away behind a case. I think the Sena with a screen protector is the way to go, for me anyways.

to be honest, no. It looks kinda chepish. I saw one out of the box today at Apple and didnt think it looked like $41 worth of case...

A whole bunch of other styles on Incase's website, some look really nice.
The Apple Chadstone guy told me the Air Jacket was their most popular case, but mine developed cracks after just a few days (I took it on and of the iPhone a few times). A quick google reveals similar stories... I returned it. I found a Hong Kong seller sold me great clear plastic cases for my old Samsung i780 for a few bucks, so am going to try his iPhone cases. I thought paying $40 for an air jacket would guarantee 'good plastic', but this was not the case! $4 would probably be just as good on Ebay!

I believe it's pronounced Va-ha. It's a Spanish thing j=h
But i will almost definitely think of "vagina" every time I look at my case from now on. Good one : )
After much paranoia and surfing various web pages I caved while shopping in Melbourne today and purchased an ISkin Solo. The only other option was the rebel but I really find them too ugly and not that chic, though I *know* they are better really. I know this case is not ideal and really it was pretty expensive for what it is but it keeps the line of this fantastic object and gives a little creativity. My 'plan' to protect the screen a little more than just the screen protector is a pouch that I'll make.
Anyways, its the best I have come up with. The apple reseller store had a lot of choice but each had advantages and disadvantages and sometimes you just gotta live a little......everywhere else in Melbourne just had hideous crap. I will be treating my baby with care*

How many people who have had their iPhone for a while just have one case?
I've been using just an IS front screen protector since Aug-07 on my iPhone 2G.
The back is scratched but not too bad overall considering 2 years of daily use wear and tear.
IMO the 2G phones had better build quality than the cheaper feeling 3G/3GS.

Which store did you buy the iSkin Solo from?
EDIT: And how much did you pay for it?
I'm looking at the SwitchEasy Capsule Rebel Black iPhone Case... anybody know where I can pick one up in Melbourne for around $30 (or less!), all the online shops I've noticed seem to charge around an extra $10.
Well, I did the unthinkable. After a 7km run I was trying to put my one week old 3gs back in my running pocket and dropped it onto a concrete path from waist height.
I just thank my lucky stars it was in a case. I had it in the switch easy rebel serpent ($31 on ebay) and it landed vertically – ie it missed the glass by a couple of mm. The rebel silicon has two very small scratches but the iphone remains as new so it's obviously quite shock resistant.
I knew I would drop it one day but not after a week.
Even if you think you want to use the fingerprintless screen in the 3gs, get a case to protect your investment, that's my two cents worth.
The Optus shop on the corner of Elizabeth and Queen has the Switcheasy Rebel cases in stock. $29 each. Pretty sure they've also got the sliders at around the same price. I've been looking at the Rebel Serpent in there and will probably buy one once my 3GS ships from Apple.com.au this week/next.

Thanks, I should pick one up tomorrow.
I bought a Griffin Wave Case from Dick Smith. It's a bit fiddly but I like it!
The only downside is I have to remove it to charge it in the cradle.

I'm interested in this although I don't know where I can get one :/
Just want something to protect the back from scratches when I place it on tables.
The only downside is I have to remove it to charge it in the cradle.
I gave up on the cradle when I got my case, and having used just the lead for a year, I can safely state it's no issue, and I thought I was going to really hate not having the cradle.
Yeah, you don't know till you try eh? I'll give the slider a go if/when my solo falls apart. Right now I'd rather not spend more money on cases! :-D

I just called them and they said it's up to $45 now. When did you check?
I was in @ 12.30 today (Optus cnr Eliz and Collins store) they had plenty for $29...
Person on the phone must have been mistaken then. Thanks
hey guys,
I've ordered bestskinsever and now waiting for it to arrive...that would protect me from scratches all throughout. I also would like some sort of shock absorber if i drop my phone. I'm thinking of SwitchEasy Capsule Rebel.
Can you guys please let me know where i can find one in Sydney City ?
Online is $40++ pleaseee help.
I have found this one on the net. It looks like in contours the iPhone and has a cutout for the Apple logo.

Would like to hear any feedback.
Just signed up to Vodafone and looking at getting a case + screen protector (hopefully before the phone arrives so I can put it on right away).
Thinking of grabbing the Air Jacket or perhaps the slider (does the slider come with a screen protector?). Is the best place to grab them from the online apple store or is there somewhere else to get them cheaper?

No, the Slider doesn't include a screen protector.
+1 for these ... switcheasy make GREAT cases.

Hey Guys,
I bought my 3GS the day it came out and ironically I wanted to protect it, I had a look at the Apple Store Online and I saw that there were some new cases, "SENA", they are about $50 and I like it as they are genuine italian leather and the fact that if you have a dock it doesn't restrict you yet it still protects it when your not using it :D
When I arrived at the Apple Store they had them in stock and they just came that day! So if you want one go have a look.
Hopes this helps some of you.
Josh

Ironic because... ? Sensible perhaps.. some might say prudent, others would tend towards foresight and visionary... but ironic is not what comes to mind somehow... Ironic would be ordering the case on Tuesday, getting the phone on Wed, then dropping it on Thursday morning while fumbling to answer the door for the delivery man bringing you the case you ordered on Tuesday...

Hey mate,
I'm looking for Switcheasy CapsuleNeo 3G iPhone Case – Black not capsule rebel. Please let me know if you find something cheaper than $40 including shpping.
Well i bit the bullet and bought a Vaja ivolution Top SP
http://www.vajachoice.com/id
A little tip, type in spoilme as a promo code and get 10% off the checkout price on the vaja stuff , helps covers most of the postage.
Didn't really want a full case, but I do a lot of mountain biking, and shove my phone in my Camelbak, I could see the screen getting smashed. The vaja's are expensive, but from all accounts are a work of art.
I will also put a best skin ever on it, have used them for about 4 years, they are brillliant, have got one on my Creative Vision M, the kids Nintendo DS Lites, on the lid of my laptop, even got some on my mountain bike's chain stays where my heels hit it (don't want to scuff the carbon to much :) ) Great company to deal with, very quick postage to Aus, got my 3GS skin in about 4 days.
I also have a Gela skin on my ipod
They are good, easier to put on than the best skin ever type, not as thick or strong though. Nice choice of art work on them if you want to brighten up your iphone.
Cheers
I gave up on the cradle when I got my case, and having used just the lead for a year, I can safely state it's no issue, and I thought I was going to really hate not having the cradle.
I use mine for showing Harvest (time management) during the day so I find it really useful. I couldn't go back to just a lead.
Hey mate,
I'm looking for Switcheasy CapsuleNeo 3G iPhone Case – Black not capsule rebel. Please let me know if you find something cheaper than $40 including shpping.
Am looking for something similar from Switcheasy. Apparently the Capsule Rebel or the newer Rebel Serpent offers more protection than the Neo models. Looks us know if you find these either online or instore. Cheers
Anyone manage to track the Griffin Reveal case locally?

This one is great:

Speck Pixel Case. Great protection but not TOO thick to become annoying.
Guys and gals check out my Youtube channel if you need help with iPhone cases, i do reviews on them, and giveaways if you sub ;)

Plenty of info of the best cases around.
My fave case atm is the iSkin Solo.

They look pretty good, but it doesn't look thick enough to give a lot of protection.

Yeah its more of a anti scratch case then anti drop :)
For a allround case against scratches drops imo the Speck Candyshell is one of the best.

If you look a couple pages back, they were on COTD for $9.95 as well.
I'm still loving my Slider Case though, people are even commenting on how nice it is when I leave it on desks/tables and they pick it up.
Had my 3GS since it came out almost 2 weeks ago. Bought a switcheasy Colors case to begin with. So far i havn't enjoyed the case, its gripppy and protective to an extent but i find that it picks up everything and despite my best efforts to keep the phone clean the case feels like a dust magnet.
Just wandering if the rebels are much different in regards to dust and lint and hair fibers and such.
Just wandering if the rebels are much different in regards to dust and lint and hair fibers and such.
The Rebel wont pick up any dust or lint because they are made of plastic and not silicone, the only downside of them is they are a bit bulky but if you don't mind this they are a good case.

Thanks mate, might have to check it out when i'm out next.
Hi guys,
I got my iphone last week and didn't use it as i was waiting for bestskin (ordered it from USA). It still didn't arrive and made me really frustrated as I couldn't use my new iphone. So i went around the mall today and found SwitchEasy Capsule rebel in black color. It was the only piece they had. Cost me $39.95. I read the posts here that NEO black aren't the best from switcheasy so got this one.
Could you please please let me know if I can use bestskin and Capsule Rebel in combination? Will this impact frequency/ GPS etc ?
Picked up a capsule rebel serpent (the slivery white one) today and so far absolutely love it, it kills the colors i was using previously, the serpent and the screen protector now make it feel safe and protected.
As to the above post from the research i did on cases and protectors if you put the bestskinever or any of the other iphone skins they add a slight thickness increase to your phone and in some cases its enough to not make a particular case fit as they are developed and sculpted for a naked iphone. I believe there are plenty of places out there on the web with peoples experience with certain cases and iphone skins.
Hopefully someone else can elaborate more.
same for above ^^ i live in Melbourne and trying to find Switcheasy Neo capsule, checked chadstone no luck >.< , now Im finding invisible shield or any screen protectors that protect back and front. Where do i find them in Melbourne?
Not sure if this has been posted or not but for anyone wanting to buy the Switcheasy Neo i wouldn't. It was the first case i got when i received my phone and while it looks shit hot at the start i doubt it'll last more than a few months and that's even if you take good care of it and not remove it.
As you can read from the link provided other people have had the same issues i did with the corners breaking off for no real reason and like i said i never even removed the cover once. A couple weeks after the corners broke the whole top part snapped off.
There's also another photo gallery i've found (not mine) but i had exactly the same issues. You'll see what i mean about the corners chipping off in photo one. I'm sure if you do a little research you'll find many more unhappy customers.
If anyone still wants to go ahead then i hope it holds up on you but if it doesn't then don't say i didn't try and warn you ;-)
Picked up a capsule rebel serpent (the slivery white one)
I think you mean 'slithery', with it being a serpent and all.
Just a follow up, received my fake rebel serpent today (ebay link)
Wasnt really expecting much, but i am impressed overall. Works jut the like the rebel, but the plastic feels a slight bit softer. Fit is really good, i actually afraid of putting it in and out due to scratching the iphone :S
All up, for $1.60 i think its well worthy, primary or backup case
anyone have any good tips for silicone cases/skins? friend got a black belkin silicone sleeve from apple on launch day, and its pretty sweet but it cost $44 or so.. bloody absurd.. i've seen the cotd pixel skin $9 deals, but missed them – not super keen on their gimicky nature too..
anyone have any other suggestions or any online order tips for the belkin silicone sleeve?
i got a switcheasy capsule rebel red and black one (go bombers) from an optus world store cost me $20
and its the best case ive bought by far
anyone have any other suggestions or any online order tips for the belkin silicone sleeve?
I like the Switcheasy Colours case, you can find them for about $20 to $25 in a range of colours, one of the best silicone cases around.
(go bombers)
Yeah go Bombers ;)
I like the Switcheasy Colours case, you can find them for about $20 to $25 in a range of colours, one of the best silicone cases around.
Can pick up the colors from compunow store for $19.95 seems to be a standard price when i was case shopping.
Although didn't like the lint catcher of a case so switched to a capsule rebel serpent for $35
Paid WAY too much – think it was $50!!!!!!! Got it from the store on Flinders St near the corner of Flinders and St. Kilda Road. Not sure if it is a next byte..... They had Ivyskin cases on special they were only $20 and worth getting too.
I got suckered for the Red Solo though.... I alway keep the phone in a pouch when not in use.
Hope that helps...wasn't impressed by the $ though, but considering they recommended the Incipio Feather, thought this was a better option. BTW, they have a LOT of cases there....lots to choose, not just one.........
Wow where is the $20 capsule rebel? the last time i see was $29!
I just went into my nearest Optus world and asked what's the cheapest he could do it for I said if he could do it for $20 I'll take it and he said ok

HUH ????? Are you sure they're Switcheasy case, not the 4Mac Fusioncase? I went into Optus store and the Switcheasy retail for $40, 4Mac Fusioncase was $35! I just ordered the Switcheasy Black Serpent from ebay for $35 including shipping. This is sold out in Australia... (limited edition).
sorry where is this store?
It was in Geelong. It has an apple branding on the front of the store also and apparently there are a few around
Sorry its Compnow
http://www.compnow.com.au/
http://www.compnow.com.au/in
After dropping my phone on concrete :( and scratching the sides I got my wife to get me a Capsule Rebel from Next Byte. I sent her the link from work and she went in and said they are selling these online for $22.95 or something like that. So they reduced it to $30! When I asked her where they were selling them for that cheap she said the link I sent her. Which was the switch easy site in the USA! HAHA.
It is a pretty good case. Screen protectors arent real good and I wrecked the first one getting it on and having dust fly up onto the sticky part. Worth $40?? For protection sake yes it is... I reckon the mark up on them would be something in the order of a few 100%
Not a huge fan of silcone cases as they pick up dust too easily.
Frankly, cases are overpriced in retail stores. Many are similar in design. Jump on ebay and look for cases at ¼ of what you'd pay for in local stores.
Even 'name' brands such as Moshi are cheaper on ebay.
My white griffin silicone case is gradually turning yellow... is this happening for anyone else? Paid $10 for it when compnow closed down in chaddy...

I got a RebelTouch for the iPhone 3G (fits the 3GS perfectly).
It was $15 and protects the iPhone well, without destroying its sexy form-factor.
Happy with my Griffin case.
Here are some pics:
Is that taken with another iPhone? Otherwise, use the macro function on your digital camera.
I like my Belkin Silicone case – I got it from the Optus Shop cnr Elizabeth and Collins St.
$29
The screen protector is awful though – its slightly not sticking down at three of the four corners – so will get a nice one off the web soon.
Anyways I would recommend it based on the design on the back (grey and green) and its quite comfy to hold and use.

Same colour as mine!! LOVING IT! Making a pouch too though and it does have a screen protector, I'm paranoid.....DID take out insurance too though.
LOVE how sleek this is and that it covers the rim at the front. Found the Rebels too 'tyre' like!
where did you buy one?
I purchased mine from here and was delivered in 3 days.

if you are game, you can try getting the iskin solo fx, those are real nice.

Nup and meh.
Hmmm switcheasy colors or capsule rebel...
hmmm....?
All depends if you want a hard case or a silicone case.
If your clumsy with your phone go the Rebel, but if your anal like me then go the Colors case :)
Hmmm switcheasy colors or capsule rebel...
hmmm....?
Get both... they're cheap... Get the incipio feather as well.. :)
Why would anyone put ugly, bulky case on iPhone anyway..?!
To hide such a beautiful design is a crime.
Go "naked" I say...

Hey all,
I've seen people recommend scratchproofcovers.com.au for Bodyguardz skins for iPhone 3GS but this has not been my recent experience at all. I've had all sorts of trouble contacting them to chase up an order I was charged for 2 weeks ago and have yet to receive. Has anyone ever had trouble with these guys? No response to multiple emails and no other contact details given on their website. All the while my shiny new iPhone sits unprotected!!
Any suggestions on what else I can do?
I guess you put the cover on your TV, computer and sofa as well...
Anyone who thinks the iPhone design, rather than the UI, is somehow awesome is very easily impressed.

You have just contradicted yourself in just one sentence ;)
Apple store in Sydney CBD.
Didn't realise the CBD had moved to the western suburbs? :P
Just joking mate. I don't work in the CBD anymore so I'd actually not be bothered to go that far just for a screen protector. Anywhere in Western Suburbs?
You have just contradicted yourself in just one sentence
You can't differentiate between the case and the UI? I'm not surprised.
Anyway, if you're just here to troll about not needing a case, in a thread about cases, just go away.

Don't be so insecure, there is help available you know...
In most cases (like yours), it takes only few weeks to get rid of this problem. First step is to to TRY NOT to answer to every post you see on whirlpool forums ;)
Anyway, I will grant your request and "just go away".
Happy now?
BTW; All I said in my original post was "go naked" iPhone is to beautiful to be blemished by cases... Just my 2 cents...
User83142 – "shouldn't I be asleep" – Yes You Should.
Peace....
Oh I have been...just worried I'm gonna get a nasty scratch right down the middle of the screen :(
Anyways I'll just have to keep chasing them.
Incredibly as it sounds, iPhones are designed to be "naked" – just like any other phone on the market. Show me any other phone that has such a "case" following...

It's not always about the looks, it's also about how well it is looked after. Everyone would love a new looking phone after having it for 1 year, or 2, and so on ...
Anyways I don't mind sacrificing on the looks of it a little if it means the phone is in good condition. Just my 2 cents worth.
Still looking for a good place to buy cases and screen protectors in Western Sydney :-)
I'm with You buddy,
Try "sena" slim – not obtrusive in your pocket, but still protects when not in use.

Does anyone know of any other place that sells the Air Jacket Clear case for iphone?
I know that apple store would have it, but right now they only have black ones, and the online store has a 2 – 3 week wait.
Anyone know any stores in the city that stock it?
Cheers!

How much did you pay for your iskin solo on ebay and did it come from us or australia? If US, how long did it take till you got it?
BTW, what's the difference between iskin solo and i skin solo fx?
What sort of material is iskin solo/fx made of, plastic or silicon?
what's the difference between iskin solo and i skin solo fx?
The FX has patterns on the back back were the Solo doesn't.
What sort of material is iskin solo/fx made of, plastic or silicon?
Its like a hard latex sort of material.
The FX has patterns on the back back were the Solo doesn't.
So not much of a difference then. I noticed that same guy on eBay is selling FX for $28aud, but the blue one is $50aud, wonder why?
Its like a hard latex sort of material.
Ok, so its not silicon, because that material drove me nuts with my N95 because it was sticking to the pocket and therefore hard to take it out. Thats why i'm considering the plastic material but these isolo skins look really nice
Just a quick question off topic, how long am i supposed to charge iphone first time around. Just opened it (even though i bought it 2 weeks ago) and i'm about to charge it.
i paid about 33$ (inclusive of postage) for my iskin solo on ebay from an AU seller.
Trust me, you won't regret it. i get compliments all the time and its very durable.

There is only one currently listed from an Australian seller and it is $41.90 + $7 for shipping.
What color did you get? I'm looking at sort of non-colored case. There is a white one, but i can't tell if its actually white or clear case.
I just charged mine until it told me it was full, and nothing wrong with battery life.
Cool thanks for that. And i'm assuming i can use the same USB cable i use for my iPod touch, correct? I don't really want to open the USB cable that came with iPhone unless it makes some difference of course.

Solo's don't come in clear only in white and they aren't see thru unfortunatley.

Ive read somewhere that the 3GS dosnt support other usb cables except the one they come with but i might be wrong?
Just give it a try and you will soon see :)
Get the incipio feather as well.. :)
woah, I'm prolly gonna go with that one.
Just what I need with my BSE.
Cheers for the heads up dude!
Anyone have any experience with Vaja cases?
I want to order one, but they seem rather costly, plus it'll probably take ages to come. It takes 25 days to handcraft the thing, plus delivery...
But they seem great. You can manipulate the colours, add text/graphic and the leather is meant to be pretty high-end too.

Do i need to put in a sim card to charge the phone? I've just plugged it in without sim card and there is no indication whether it is charging or not. The only thing on the screen is a msg asking for a sim card.

i got mine from ebay
i wanted to get an incase slider (as advertised on the apple site for $55, but now seeming discontinued). Instead I found the Aeon case at Crazy Johns today for just $20. Its pretty much the same case except the Incase slider has rubber type material down the inside sides of the case and the Aeon has a similar rubber material on the inside back of the case. this is what it looks like from the back:
http://www.freeimagehosting.
has a nice matte finish. Not bad for twenty bucks.
highly recommend switcheasy's rebel serpent – b/c they are the best of the hybrids – soft next to the iphone so it doesn't scratch it on and off – and full time hard shell around it – to save you from drops.
Best form of protection will always be a total case – but if you are like me and don't like having to deal with a case every time you use the phone – this is a nice compromise – something to put on once and leave
http://www.switcheasy.com/pr
Plenty of reviews about regarding these cases, have a read...

hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it appears you got jipped $19.99
sorry mate
Does it have to be a case? I use a ZAGG InvisbleSheild, Can be found at zagg.com or ebay.
They claim scratch proof yes doesn't hide the look of the phone at all.
ZAGG don't just do it for the iPhone, they do it for the Touchs and lots of gadgets, would recomend to those who like to keep the look of the device but still keep scratch free.
Hah! Up to a whopping 11US cents! Still I'd go the extra cost for the nice metalic red :o) not to mention not having to give my details to e(vil)Bay.
I bought this baby last Sunday for $59AU including Fedex to AU.
Very happy with it.

$60 for a case? – that's a bit much in my opinion.
Five per cent of a 32GB GS, hardly excessive.
---
Still – it's only a phone, not a ferrari.
Fair enough, but for me, a $1K device is worth protecting well, and it needs to look decent (work phone), not just have a crappy silicon case.

I do agree yes it needs to be looked after, but I'm sure there are enough cases out there which serve the purpose at a smaller cost. Anyways, just my two cents worth :)

While I love foofpods and foofbags, it's a matter of time before your iPhone/MacBook Pro slides out and hits the deck.
Happened to me with my MBP and iPhone, so I don't bother anymore.
Got a Red Metalic Incase Slider from the apple store in Sydney (great range in there). I really like it – its slim and looks v nice. They had black, white and a coupl of red metallic in the incase.
http://www.vajachoice.com/i
I had that one back when I had my 3G.
I got a black one. It was a very sleek and nice case. However, putting it in and taking it out was so damn tight, it was like pointless. You could almost break your phone trying to pull it out.
Also after a few months the cardboard backing inside the leather stuffed up and caused a bit of a bump that was weird.
Yeah and it took about 2 weeks for it to come to me as well.

iSkin Revo2 Case (http://store.apple.com/au/pr
Apple Contour Flick Case (http://store.apple.com/au/pr

What do you guys think? Which one would you pick out of these 4?
Just my $0.02...
I got one of those iLuv silicone cases at first.. while it's ok.. I was not that happy with it. It covers too much of the iphone screen and it looks ugly.
So based on some recommendations from this forum I then tried one of those Capsule Rebel cases. Wow! so much better! Am totally glad I got it. Very well made, they cover the back and the sides leaving the front intrusion free. (with just a screen protector there)
I got the black on black so it's not too "loud" as some of the other colour combinations.
Highly recommend the Rebel!!

How much was it including delivery?
Do you think they would changed the design by now? The site says you can return it if it isn't good, so I guess that's a bit of an insurance policy.

Nah, they're full of it, they said that's how it's designed blah blah, and wouldn't take it back.

It's really nice, I saw a review on youtube and the guy's phone was falling out whenever he opened the flip. I saw this after I had placed the order and was a bit worried. But as yet nothing like that has happened here and the fit is quite snug.
Anyway the details are if anyone's interested:
cost me US$109.00 (including the delivery of $29) (AU$141)
I ordered it on the 6th July & received today 13th July
I got a tracking email from fedx so I could track where it was at any time. They said the ETA would be the 15th so pretty good 2 days early. (Delivery was to the Sunshine Coast)
I had been using the SENA Dockable Leather case, I decided to place the order for the VAJA as the Sena was hard to use the keyboard (around the edges). When taking calls you could really feel the raised leather around the sides on your face, just didn't feel nice.
cheers
kath
I bought the capsule Rebel today. I feel it will offer a good level of protection, without being too bulky and it looks nice too. I have the white cover with the white phone.
SwitchEasy screen protectors are shyte! The cases are good but my god it is finger print city on the screen films!
Is that $29 AUD?
Yup. All US$$$
The 'in stock' item was $80 (without a clip)
and delivery was $29
I did a quick conversion when posting the previous post but after checking my credit card the actual amount I paid was $137.07 + about $2.50 in currency conversion bits n pieces.
Can you remember how much delivery was?
Don't remember exactly sorry mate. But it was about 15 – 20 bucks when I got it.
Also, I know this might not be allowed, so any mod can edit my post if necessary, but I have a spare invisible shield from zagg, I ordered one then my gf ordered one for me haha, and I couldn't cancel the other one. So if anyone wants one real quick, let me know.
I'm not trying to make a cent from this, just want to get how much I paid for it back, as it's just around on my desk doing nothing.
I ordered two Switcheasy cases tonight (pity the exchange rate has been going down). One Colours – Bleu, and one White RebelSerpent. We'll see if it comes because it says for US Residents only.
Decided the Vaja is too much (going to cost over $100). Can anyone recommend any decent sites where I can browse a selection of cases?
I just want a nice leather case.
witchEasy screen protectors are shyte! The cases are good but my god it is finger print city on the screen films!
Yep your rite, i have one on my phone now and jesus i don't have to touch it and it gets prints on it.
SwitchEasy screen protectors are shyte! The cases are good but my god it is finger print city on the screen films!
Thats strange, I have the Switcheasy Capsule Rebel, I find that the screen protector that came with it is actually pretty good !
Much better than the generic one I had previously.
I dont find it bad at all with fingerprints.
Much better than the generic one I had previously.
well obviously anything with a brand on it will be better than generic, i've also use switcheasy screen protector and it does get prints very easily
well obviously anything with a brand on it will be better than generic,
Yeah, they've got special factories to make really crappy stuff for generic.
i've also use switcheasy screen protector and it does get prints very easily
I had one on my 3G and it was pretty good.
I'm using the screen protector I got with the Rebel Serpent and I'm really liking it. It does hold finger prints, but so far no scratches and no prints that cant be removed with a single swipe on fabric.
Does anyone know where I can get just the screen protectors in Sydney or online? I'd like to keep one or two handy.

Apple store have them Power support crystal film set which are by far the best i have used.

Not that it helps much but type in "spoilme" as a promo code in the checkout section and get 10% off the Vaja Cases. Did that on a ivolution SP top a week ago. Still cost $100 though ;)
Im not a fan of hard cases, silicone cases, screen protectors – I find either of those things is like covering your couch in plastic..
I just went for a leather pouch from HN – Cygnet.

ok i keep that in mind thanks
after a bit of thinking and research i think im gonna go for the switcheasy colors range...
unfortunately i hastily bought a Griffin clarifi case off ebay so i need to get rid of it. PM if you're interested (still brand new in box w/ screen protector) – i'm in Sydney CBD area.
You can buy the incase from the aussie Apple online store ( not in that colour though). If colour is not an issue, look at the spiderfoot website, they make a knock-off of the black incase slider for less than $10 delivered to your door in less than a week! I have a couple of them, and I am preferring them to the Switcheasy rebel, which I also have, because the are so light and slim.
Where is the best place to order a
Switch Easy Rebel Serpent ?
Otherwise what stores stock them?
I've seen them in a few Optus World stores :-)

I got it from Optus World – In Brisbane I bought from Carindale and Valley – got them for $30 as I bought 2 of them
I went to the Apple store today and picked up an Incase Slider cover for my 3GS. It fits and looks perfect. Not too bulky and provides decent armour against most knocks.
I can't decide between an iSkin Solo, Incase Slider or the Contour Flick!
Are the Incase Sliders worth the high price? They seem like they add quite a bit of bulk.
Is the screen protector that comes with an iskin solo any good?
Are the Incase Sliders
Anywhere cheaper to buy an Incase Slider? $54 from Apple store for two bits of Polycarb plastic is an absolute rip! Guaranteed from someone in the manufacturing industry they are not more than $1 to make the set.
Is the screen protector that comes with an iskin solo any good?
Yeah they are mate, they are quite descent.
Bought a Switcheasy Rebel Cherry and Serpent from Ebay. $40 Aus delivered each, came in 5 working days.
Very cool cases, fit nice, look hot.
Hey guys
Just wondering where can I find the Moshi iGlaze in a retail store in Sydney? I've tried all the leading electronic stores and the Apple store on George St... yet to try Next Byte
but many thanks
Are the Incase Sliders worth the high price?
As much as I'd like to say no, they are. I've gone through 3-4 cases with different iPhones (2nd gen, 3G, 3GS) and the Incase Slider Case is by far my favourite.
I wouldn't consider it bulky at all, and nothing beats that smooth matte feeling.
Just wondering where can I find the Moshi iGlaze in a retail store in Sydney?
Try Computers Now, they stock them. Not sure on my NSW geography but Crows Nest is probably the closest?

Hi All,
Does anyone use Beyza cases? www.beyzacases.com .
I had this for my Nokia E71 (Slimline). Made of leather and good fit. After a while though the phone use to slide out very easily.
Incase slider looks good for the dock functionality
seems that the incase slider has a tendency to scratch the back of the ipone.. reading some of the reviews.. I think I might go a leather pouch from Beyza cases
Guys using Rebel Serpent with InvisibleShield skin, I need your help.
I just received my Rebel Serpent, and I am finding that the fit is pretty bad (the silicone sides does not fully come up and cover the silver frame around the glass).
I am thinking that with the InvisibleShield full body skins fitted, its too snug for the Rebel silicone cover.
I am keen to find out other user's experiences.
Also, if you are using Rebel Serpent without any skins protecting the back, does dirt get between the back and the silicone causing it to scratch?
Or am I being too precious and just get over it, an iPhone is still just a phone.
Thanks.

I've got the Capsule Rebel (basically the same) and you can't use a skin under it, doesn't fit.

Had my Rebel Serpent for a week, covers the silver frame on mine :-)
with the serpent can you easily still charge the phone with a belkin charger in the car?
ie. Does the case get in the way!?

without cases are design to be snug fit if you add bulk to it certain case may fit it but won't be on properly such as the chrome frame being expose

Mesky: Thanks for the comments.
Bummer.... Rebel or IS, one of them has gotta go!
i love the Speck candyshell, that will be my next case.
http://www.speckproduct
I've use IS for a year now. it hasn't failed me, but i'm liking the idea of a backing case and a screen shield.

The more I look at this case the more i want it, bad thing its sold out everywhere....Have to back order this sucker..
I just purchased this case:

I got the white version

I ordered two Switcheasy cases tonight (pity the exchange rate has been going down). One Colours – Bleu, and one White RebelSerpent. We'll see if it comes because it says for US Residents only.
Just a follow-up, Switcheasy refunded my money through Paypal, and referred me t their Australian reseller, PCGear. But I ended up ordering one from ebay.
I just got the Switcheasy Capsule Neo, which is similar to the Rebel, but I liked the look of this one better and it looks like it will protect the phone a bit better. It looks great on the phone and I'm very happy with it.
Im looking for something that i can run with. I went into the apple store and those arm bands are ridiculously overpriced! The ones on their site have received bad reviews to boot.
Anyone here use an arm band?
Switcheasy capsuleneo. Period.
Soft silicone membrane that doesnt allow dirt inside, headphone jack and recharge port covers, thin and very stylish finish.
Honestly the only reason it's marked down is because of how tough it is to install... these people must have been using their foot to assemble it, took me no longer than 2 minutes... and I did a perfect job.
Another great one is the the Switcheasy rebel serpent.
If you dont care about scuff marks on the bottom part of the bezel, the contour flick is thin and looks great.
Actually I'm looking to sell my Rebel Serpent, No scuffs, used for 3 weeks before I got the capsuleneo... I don't know if we're supposed to trade here but pretty much immaculate case, I'll include the screen protectors, bottom port protector, I think the video stand is around somewhere as well but useless to me.
Looking for $30. I live at Kellyville Sydney but will post. The condition is pretty much brand new. No scuffs no nothing. I just don't need two cases.
EDIT: Guess I'm not supposed to trade here. Offer withdrawn. Sorry about that.
Got me one of these...
http://catalog.be
Almost as awesome as the phone, looks all executive and well protected, plus nobody can easily call me an 'iPhone w*nker' without waiting for me to open it ;)
exactly the one that I have. Love it and it looks so good.
Rebel Serpent

Looking for $30
Btw ~ arent they are 30 brand new, unopened, unused, in store with a return policy?? :)
I'm thinking about replacing the rear housing of my 8GB 3G as it's scratched and faded.
Has anybody done this?
I am loving my white (off the shelf) vaja case almost as much as my iPhone! It's Lovely. Everybody coments on it. Definitely a chicks case tho.
If colour is not an issue, look at the spiderfoot website, they make a knock-off of the black incase slider for less than $10 delivered to your door in less than a week!
I got mine delivered today (on your recommendation) it's a great fit, a tiny bit has that extra bit of rubber but otherwise looks and feels great.
Will give feedback after some usage.
It was like $6.40 delivered in a week with a skin and a free cord.
Spiderfoot have done well for the price
do the SwitchEasy Serpent cases get less scratched?
http://switcheasy.com/produc
cant really tell what the material texture is like from the pic, awesome looking case though – going to buy!!!

can you please take a photo of it with your iphone in it? thinking about getting one for myself and the wife. the pictures look good on the website, i just want to see what one would look like with a bit of use.

I got no scratch on the Serpent... I heard the normal versions is easily scratched. Yes get it.... looks better in real than on those youtube videos.. Get both colors (white/black), so you'll have 4 combinations. :P, (but its a bit hard to take out though)
If you want to get the switcheasy Rebel Case I found that Optus World in Melbourne city was the cheapest place to get them at $29. Alot of other Optus World's were $49 etc as some claim the Serpent case is a limited addition or they think they are better so charge more because they can.
I have both the serpent and normal black Switcheasy.
But the serpent seems to be harder to track down in stores (I had to order mine from the States). And according to video reviews I've seen, the material is slightly tougher in comparison while scratches (if any) are less noticeable due to the reptile pattern.
Both very sexy might I add.
Anywhere cheaper to buy an Incase Slider? $54 from Apple store for two bits of Polycarb plastic is an absolute rip!
I have an Incase slider and it is very, very nice. I don't think that it adds too much bulk and the look is just so slick while being protective. I would say that the Incase Slider is worth every cent, I am not into swapping cases over all the time and since I got the Slider I've never felt the urge to purchase any other case.
A cheaper option would be the 'Rebel Scholar' cases which by YouTube reviews is very similar to the Incase Slider (same two bits of plastic)
Dropped mine in the carpark at work last night....sooo lucky I had purchased a real lame looking leather case for it a few days earlier. If it wasn't on there I'm pretty sure I'd be posting in the insurance forum about now.....
I've been using the Ghost Armour for a few weeks now and so far it's fantastic!
I'm typically not a patient person so I thought installing it would be a problem for me. I didn't find it too hard though, and have had no issues with screen brightness, orange peel etc.
Certainly recommend the product :)

It looks quite similar, but the gap for the logo is ugly.
seems that the incase slider has a tendency to scratch the back of the ipone..
I've taken my case off a few times to just clean it out and give it a wipe, I can't see any scratches still. It has little rubber "legs" on the inside of the case.

They look alright. Any more pics of them on the phone?
Link to where to get 'em?
Ta!
It looks quite similar, but the gap for the logo is ugly.
I won't be using that no way... the point for having a case is to protect the phone from scratch etc.... with that gap showing the chrome, surely it will scratch in your pocket!

No, i got this one, no gap

Does anyone have a rebel serpent case with a bodyguardz/invisible shield on their iPhone? I've heard some mixed reports about how it fits.
As per my post above:
http://store.apple.com/au/p
Select "Black" color on the right, should be the same case
40 bucks !! Oh give me a break, what a monumental rip-off! It's just a bloody piece of plastic. Whoever buys that should have thei iPhone taken and given Nokia 5110. The yellow one.
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/6742/dsc3770.jpg
nice colorful hard shell

Yeah, where did you get these?
i have one of those hard plastic ones – cheap crap to be honest.
doesnt protect the phone from anything except scratches on the back.
Impact etc would break that baby.
plus the inside of them is rough which will probably scratch your phone. that and if any dirt gets in there it will deff rub and scratch.
switcheasy rebel all the way lol
I'm very happy with the Sena leather case. After 4 months it has stretched just nicely. Best of both worlds in my opinion, no scratches and I still get to use the iPhone naked, as it was meant to be used.
Does anyone know a case like Moshi iGlaze 3g with the rubberised coating but without the apple logo cutout?
I just want something to protect the back from scratches
Pretty sweet for $5USD actually. Is it painted?
No, no paint.
Feels nice, black matte finish.
As it says in description – hard plastic with rubberised feel.
Reminds me of Batman's outfit.
So far, I recommend it. In my pocket, I had a lot of lint that made a lot of dust clog up at the bottom of it on the screen. I took it off quickly, cleaned and put back on really easy. I didn't see any scratches. It has like felt(furry) backing inside to not scratch the back of the iphone.

Sounds just like the Incase Slider. Definitely the nicest feeling case I've put on – nice to know I can recommend a $5 alternative :)

what is with vaja coice websit's loading time??
Google vaja and go to the second link to access phone cases. First link goes nowhere!
I love the look of the naked iPhone. That said i worry about scratches if i drop it. What is the very thinnest case out there?

The material felt awesome (and I don't think you can scratch it), looks great, thin as chips, but it left too many chrome unprotected, so it had to make ways for the switcheasy rebel.
anyone??
You could just buy on the Apple Store and have it shipped to you, unless you want to see what it's like (/forum-replies.cfm?t=1232598&p=6#r111)
so it had to make ways for the switcheasy rebel.
Agreed, got one of these yesterday and i'm very happy with it. It protects the back and the side of the phone (including the chrome) quite nicely and with the included shield, the front of the phones is protected as well.
I had my doubts about the color when i ordered it, but now i actually love it because you can see through it so the beauty of the phone is still visible as if there was no case there at all. I got arctic color by the way, $42 shipping included from www.pccasegear.com.au.
I have an In-Case slider for my phone.
Fits well and looks good too.
http://www.goincase.com/prod
From memory it was about $45-ish from an Apple Store.
Just received my Rebel serpent case, very nice indeed. Only drama I have is the protective membranes failed to stick.
Does anyone know if you can buy them separate ?????
go to www.zagg.com
or
www.clear-coat.com
have tried n tested it on i phone!
no issues!
friends all over d world use it..

Where would I get this in Aus?
Ebay... $26 including shipping. comes with 2 screen protectors + fiber cloth... ( given what the protectors are sold for in Australia, $26 is cheap as chip)

which part are u talking about? Failed to stick? huH? I just received my white serpent in the mail today.. mixed it up with the black one, holly molly... 10/10 for funky factor.

go to www.zagg.com

Saw one in Eastgarden for $50 for the Zagg.. (life time waranty).... can be a bit tricky to put on from some of the reviews..... You can get some of the iphone skins... gela skins...
do the standard capsule rebels have a warranty, i have had mine for a week and a bit of the rubber tore when i was taking it off.
wasnt rough handling it or anything, looks like it tore at a weak bit at the bottom
Got my Vaja case today, very nice indeed! There's nothing like opening a box and getting a wiff of real leather (think I better have a cold shower :) ). Anyway ordered it on the 6/7 and got it today via fedex, so a lot quicker than the 25 days manufacture + shipping time quoted. Fits like a glove and looks great. I really like the front cover, got the ivolution Top SP, means I can throw it in my bag or Camelbak and not worry about scratching the front. I even took the bestskinever front skin off, left the back one on, you can't really see it and it protects the small amount around the camera that isn't protected by the case.
If you have the means they really are the ducks guts.
Cheers
anyone having issues with the capsuleneo if anyones got one? i heard theyre hard to put on and take off.

it's hard at first but after having it for a year now it's quite easy to put on and take off
Hey I was just looking at the Moshi iGlaze iPhone Case and I like the white one except I have a black iPhone... Do you reckon the white one woud look good on a black iPhone?
Also has anyone else got any ideas on iPhone Cases that show the apple logo?
Apple should really bring out they're own line of cases with the official Apple logo.
Hey I was just looking at the Moshi iGlaze iPhone Case and I like the white one except I have a black iPhone... Do you reckon the white one woud look good on a black iPhone?
I'm also looking at this but deciding red or black on black iphone. I like the finish on this but not the Apple logo cutout, I rather it be closed (dust and lint could easily gather).
Yeah I understand what you mean but its nice to have the logo so people can see that its a iPhone lol.
Thats why apple should make their own cases so they can be cases that don't have to worry about copyright
Hey guys, I'm gonna buy a Rebel tomorrow.
Just wondering whether I should pick up the Capsule Rebel or the Rebel Serpent.
Is my assumption that the rebel serpent is a newer model and is therefore better correct?

Good luck trying to get the Serpent in Australia.... its harder to find than the normal Rebel.. It is newer and it's a limited edition.
BTW, newer doesn't mean better! but for the serpent .... I think it is.... less scratch of the spine plastic, and sexy looking . :)

the optus world store on Cnr Elizabeth St and Collins St, Melbourne had both the Capsule Rebel and Rebel Serpent in stock and had a few on the shelf!!
Melbourne
Too bad I'm in Sydney.
I called my local Optus Store just then... She said they're out of stock and not getting anymore in, because they've been discontinued???
Edit: looks like PCCaseGear has it?
Edit2: Yep, I just ordered it from PCCG.

I currently have the Air Jacket which I really like, however I have just purchased a black and pink case from here:
http://www.sgpstore.com/index.php/cPath/21_28_65
Very similar to the air jacket however they show the apple logo :) Ordered the other night, shipped a few hours later, will be interesting how long it takes for delivery.
Optus World Parramatta (near the level 1 foodcourt) had quite a few RebelSerpents when I bought one last week :-)
I have an Otterbox Defender case (black + yellow, for that "building site" vibe...).
It is honestly the best case I've owned, and I've tried about 5 of them.
Indestructable, solid, waterproof, 6-month-old-baby-drool-proof.
Otterbox's service were great: there was a manufacturing defect on mine, caused a bit of the silicone to break off... they sent a replacement immediately (took 10 days to arrive from Canada), at no cost.
Highly recommended.
I have used a Griffin case and it was too heavy and bulky. Then I found this Speck case on the US Apple online store and fell in love. Bought it on ebay for $50 including shipping and it's the best case I've seen, based on what friends also use.

Good luck trying to get the Serpent in Australia.... its harder to find than the normal Rebel.. It is newer and it's a limited edition.
They're not that hard to find. Stocked at Computers Now, Optus shops etc.
I ended up going with the Sena Ultra Slim Pouch.
Advantages
- Looks great.
- Fits perfectly.
- Protects the phone well.
Disadvantages
- Being a pouch, it only protects the phone when when the phone is inside it. I've already accumulated a few scratches on my iPhone's bezel due to clumsiness while handling it, and obviously a pouch won't protect from that. A 'proper' case that encloses the it 24/7 would have prevented this from happening...but I'd rather have my iPhone 'naked' than cover it up with a plastic/rubber case all the time.
- Unless you're using Apple earphones, you need to remove the phone from the pouch to adjust volume or change tracks, which can be annoying at times.
Overall, it's very nice, and I'd recommend it to others.

People still use those things?
I am.
What's wrong with them?
The 'quality' is atrocious.
Does anyone know of a case that protects the back and the actual glass simultaneously? In other words, a full body case protector? I've used the shields on the front of my iPod touch and they are a pain to put on and eventually begin to peel from the seams. I've seen one case that opens the front like a book but its a bit cumbersome.
I have the Capsule Rebel, and honestly I think it is one of the top cases around. I bought it after watching several youtube reviews with high recommendations. However, there are several cons that you guys may want to know before buying this case.
1. Putting the case on is not easy. I take the case off to wipe the phone when it gets dirty, which is fairly often (dust gets trapped under the rim of the case every time u wipe the screen).
2. Take the case off too frequently and the bottom gets loose and sags a bit.
3. I've noticed scratches on the chrome bezel because the rubber part of the case is a tight fit when putting it on.
4. Take care when putting on the plastic skeleton because the rim of the case pushes against the screen protector, causing bubbles.
As I am not too worried about scratches nor am I anal about bubbles on screen, I am satisfied with my choice.
Does anyone know of a case that protects the back and the actual glass simultaneously?
The Otter Box range is probably your best bet.
Just ordered two easyswitch capsule rebel cases for my wife and my iphones (she's getting the devil red case, Im getting the rebel serpent black case). Getting them from pccasegear.
Basically I went off the recommendations here :)
does anyone know where you can get the Griffin iClear cases for iphone 3GS anywhere in AUS?
i have exhausted all avenues and i like this case!!
Amazon seller doesnt send this item to AUS
Ebay is average $70....FORGET IT!!
Then I found this Speck case on the US Apple online store and fell in love
Each to their own I guess. That thing is butt ugly imo.
I bought a black one from these guys http://cgi.ebay.com.au/OTTERB
Its fantastic, the whole phone is encased and feels very tactile, nice rubber. I can take it anywhere with no worries. The touch-screen doesn't seem to have lost any responsiveness either. Greatly recommend this.
The guys I bought it from are good too. They say it will be from Darwin – Aust. But mine came from their other factory which is in Cal. America. Bought on the internet Sunday night and it arrived Tuesday week morn. And I live 3 hrs south of Syd. Not bad.
Also with the Otterbox defender (which is a beautiful protector) so you dont get a water mark (by having the two screens touching) put an anti glare film cover over you phone before the case. The screen looks fab.

It looks pretty badass. I hate cases in general though, especially screen protectors. I might just go with a leather magnetic-wallet type case, and leave the screen as it is. Should be the best of both worlds, if not be somewhat annoying when answering calls. There's an absurd number of cases out there for iPhones, need to find the one for me!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I seriously can't stop laughing at the number of people in this thread who keep saying that they won't buy a case if it doesn't display the apple logo.
As someone who isn't an absolute wanker, blah blah drivel blah waffle etc
How embarrassing.
Back for some more trolling eh Bob?
"How embarrassing" !
anybody know of a good place i can get beyza cases for the iphone in australia? particularly brisbane
heyas, im a tradie and taking this phone to work with me means i could wreck it easily if i drop it, anyone know of any cases that will help if dropped or help toughen the phone up a bit? thanks guys
for anyone looking for the Switcheasy Rebel Series cases (capsule & serpent) in Melbourne, Optus World in corner of Collins & Elizabeth St are selling them for $29. As far as i can remember, they have all the colours expect the yellow-black ones.
Cheaper than anything that i've seen on Ebay or Any online stores.
Just bought myself a white Rebel Serpent and absolutely loving it.

Hard to go past the otterbox Defender in your situation: http://www.otterbox.com/iphon
I have been looking for a Switcheasy Colors case but cant find except black anywhere, it seems it has been discontinued.
Well my $5USD Spider Foot case turned up today and I am pretty damn happy with it!
Fits perfectly, feels okay in the hand, isn't very bulky at all and will do the job I wanted it for perfectly – protecting the back and sides of the iPhone from scratches.
Very happy.
Many thanks to the poster in here who mentioned the brand and posted the link.
I went with a rebel, and its perfect. my l-shaped headphones fit, the volume switch and lock buttons are covered and are super sensitive, and the ringer is easy to access. The case does an amazing job of maintaining usability whilst offering some hefty protection. I pretty much hate all cases and whilst this is still annoying it doesn't get in your way. There's a shitload of extras in the box too, which is nice.

Speck Toughskin...Im awaiting delivery on mine. I work on a construction site so
I have been looking for a Switcheasy Colors case but cant find except black anywhere, it seems it has been discontinued.
CompNow stock them.
Just got a Rebel Serpent case on the recommendations from the users here.
All in all a really nice case – it's a little thicker than I would like (perhaps 2mm all around the iphone in total).
I'm pretty happy with the screen protector that came with it – much of a muchness in regards to finger prints... so meh...
I thought that the case itself might have been a little more rubbery for knocks etc as the case is fairly hard.
Def would get again, got mine through pccasegear and was delivered the next day.
Thanks for the reviews / recommendations against this case, all in all I'm glad I got it.
CompNow stock them.
Only thing you cant buy online with them, and im about 170ks away from nearest one :(
mate..could you tell me what the correct product name/code is for your case?
there are many options on the spider foot website.
thanks very much!
I own a lot of cases... the Speck Candyshell, Otterbox Defender, Incipio Superhero, A Cygnet silicone case and a Switcheasy Colors (and a Mophie Juicepack, but that ain't really a case!).
The Speck pretty much slays all the others (unless it is hard-core protection, in which case go the Otterbox!) due to the fact it looks good, dust doesn't cling to it and has great access to the charge port/headphone jack while the volume rocker and power switch is fully protected. The only downside is that removing the thing is a bugger.
In my opinion gloss plastic cases rule as they reject dust, as opposed to silicone, which is just a dust-magnet material.
I have a Incase slider coming in the mail and imagine I will probably love that too... gloss plastic but I am a bit worried about the exposed switches...

Whim sent to you!
Here is a link for anyone else who may be interested –
For USD $5.02 and free shipping I am rapt with it. Better than I expected it to be and I am very happy with it.
Cheers!
Hey I have a bit of a question regarding the Power Support anti-glare films.
On the apple.com/au/ site they have 2, an anti-glare and a crystal film. Can anyone explain the difference in picture quality? I'm thinking of buying a pack but unsure as to which one. Also does anyone know on average how long they last?
One last thing, can you only get them at the apple store online, or are they sold in shops as well? I'd like to save on postage if possible.

I cannot advise about the anti-glare, but...
I've had a crystal clear version on my phone for almost a year now, and it shows no signs of wear yet. The second one is still in the pack. Good value. As the name suggests, you are barely aware it is there. It was also a breeze to apply.
I got mine at Harvey's.

The Antiglare will reduce picture quality a little but keep finger prints of your phone, where as the Cyrstal film wont be noticed its even on your phone like the person above me said, but will give you fingerprints and body oil smudges :)
The Rebels come with "Two anti-static Screen Guards". I wonder whether these are anti-glare or crystal... or something different altogether.

They are not related to the Power Support ones, however, they are similar to the crystal screen protectors.
Hmm... just installed the screen cover... its full of bubbles. Like half of it. I tried peeling it off a couple of times to make it better... but to no avail...
Am I doing something wrong :S
ive got the powersupport anti glare screen protector from the apple store with a black incase case. its perfect.
the anti-glare screen protector has a couple of air bubbles at first which totally have dissapeared after about 2 days, its also VERY fingerprint resistant and doesnt leave any marks at all. The incase is probably the best case ive used/seen anyone use in terms of fit/size and also looks.
only downside i guess is that they werent cheap at $19.95 and $49.95, but well worth it, im lovin it. but a good tip about the screen protector is that they are reusable/washable and come in packets of 2, so go in with a friend and its only $10 each.
edit. the case also comes in various other colors, white and metallic etc. i got black, still the sexiest :D

yeah i just threw out my screen covers from the switcheasy capsulerebel case
they were not that great after 1 day with major bubbles that wouldnt go away with the case on...i got my iphone on monday and i bought the crystal ones from apple and with the case has no problems whatsover
much better!!
[edit. the case also comes in various other colors, white and metallic etc. i got black, still the sexiest :D]
Are the metallic colours available in the Australian Apple store? I remember thinking we were severely jipped here cause we couldn't get metallic (locally) but that was a while ago. Mine is a white one on the way, saved about $10 from the apple price by buying on ebay.

the apple store in chadstone had metallic ones.

My screen protector (switcheasy capsule rebel) is still fine after a year.
If you buy screen protector from apple, the staff is happy to install it for you. My old one was so ugly with all the bubbles and this guy from apple did it perfect!!

Really? That was my plan, I just called Apple Sydney up, and the guy on the phone said its unlikely that anyone would agree to do it as they don't wan tto screw it up.
Anyone tried cases from Rebel Scholar?
http://rebelscholar.com/iphone-3gs-cases/
Am quite tempted to get the Olympic Gold :)
Anyone tried cases from Rebel Scholar?
Noice!! $100 a bit steep tho. Youd turn a few heads taking the gold one out to answer it. Let us know how you get on.

Just walk in there....my friend got hers installed yesterday too! But the guy said that he can't guarantee 100% bubble free...in the end, it was perfect. BTW, we went to the one at Sydney George St

Er...wasn't looking at the $100 one mate...Was looking at the cheap $20 one... :D

Yeh, that's where I'm going on Monday. I hope I'm as lucky as you and your friend have been and get someone willing to install it for me and they do it perfectly :P
I received my Otterbox case today and it seems to be pretty good. Good solid plastic type case with a clear screen built in then it is encased in a silicon type outer wrap that absorbs bumps etc. It has a clear plastic covered hole in the back for showing off the Apple!!! The silicone wrap has little clip thingys that cover the headphone and charging jacks.
It also comes with a dinky sort of belt holder which I wouldn't use but looks like it is made of strong sort of plastic.
Got it on Ebay and so far am happy with it.
Greg.
Same here ordered the midnight black
in the carbon fiber?
should of seen me first to get you a price..
over 1k i can get them 30us a pop :p
ive just bought a real carbon fiber case :D
I purchased an OSIR O-Shield carbon fibre case a few weeks ago and although it's strong, light and slim, it also cuts down signal strength as carbon fibre is an RF inhibitor :(
I made a quick video yesterday to demonstrate this – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC78nNSVb7A
If you want a carbon fibre case, why not go for the Aussie product:
http://www.cygnett.com/produ
I got mine from Harveys, and am well pleased.
I honestly did not know cases could reduce signal strength so dramatically. Is this for carbon fibre cases only or does it extend to plastic cases as well?

If you watch the video to the end, you will see the same demo with a plastic case, with no signal strength loss at all.

As cont pointed out, this case is plastic, not carbon fibre. The print doesn't even look like the real thing – more of an "inspired by" kind of deal.
If the weight, rigidity and price don't give the game away, look at the case while it's directly under a light source. As most carbon fibre is used in a weave, you should see the light roll around the material as you rotate the case left and right, and up and down. If the case has a glossy back, the effect is very easy to observe.

Yer, apparently why Apple chose to go all plastic from the 2G to 3G transition... the 2G had an aluminium back cover.
im happy to pay more for carbon, because i know A. its not cheap B. you cant just pump them out mechanically you need some labour to go into it :)

Carbon fibre is certainly a great material for a phone case in terms of lightness and strength (and aesthetics if that's your things), and if you don't regularly venture into areas where the signal is a bit weak, you'll be very happy.
I'm not sure if I'll stick with my carbon fibre case. Even though the signal is a lot weaker in large office buildings, it's still enough (1 to 3 bars) to make and receive calls – MMSs can take a bit longer to send but that's about it. However at the subterranean gym I attend to I lose signal quite a few times which isn't too great when I'm on call.
I'll probably stick with the case until TomTom for the iPhone comes out. If the cradle can't handle the case then that will be enough to make me go back to the Power Support Air Jacket, or to a film based case such as BSE.
Hey guys, has anyone had any trouble getting the switcheasy rebel serpent case on and off their phone? I tried to get mine off the other day and now it appears to expose the chrome bevel around the phone. The cover is brand new. I took it off because I thought I had to do this when I charged my phone (due to overheating) but have since learnt that there is no need to do this – as my phone was in the week 27 batch.

Yes! I've fitted it a few times trying to get rid of the chrome poking out. Last time I got it pretty close by holding the rubber over the bezel as I clipped on the hard plastic shell, but it still pokes out and makes the corners a little uneven on the hard plastic case. I think because the rubber is not an exact fit (close, but not 100%) the hard shell pokes out a bit further than it should.
It's only a minor thing but it does bug me, the bottom corners of the case stick out further and make it slightly trapezoid not rectangular :|
Hi everyone,
Has anyone bought one of these cases:
http://www.more-thing.com/si
If so, are they any good and are they available from anywhere in Australia?
Anyone in Melbourne know where to find the switcheasy rebel serpent in a store that has black.
PCCaseGear have them, however they got rid of 'pick up' from their storefront, so unfortunately you'll have to pay for postage of about $10-12. PCCG are going to reintroduce pickup, but I suspect it'll be a small while before it's implemented.
~Kilborn
spent some time in the apple store and jbhifi looking for cases.
didnt end up buying any...they either make them too ugly or if theyre not, too uselesss (doesnt look too protective)...
the only ones i like is online, griffin elan form leather (ltd. edition white)....but the shipping charge is like $70....-.-

Wow, amazing video. I wonder if the manufacturers know about this. Thanks so much for demonstrating it for us.
Like many, I think the iphone looks best naked and most cases add too much bulk. However, I've had my phone for a little over a week and boy I find little fella slippery!
At the moment I'm giving it a lot of tlc handling but I'm worried that respect will wear off and just know I'm gonna drop it/scratch it with my keys or coins/slide it across a table/floor/etc. So what do others find? I can't imagine how anyone with an unadorned phone (particularly a male), can't have scratched it all over after a few months? I know I've done that to all my other (albeit cheaper) phones.
Choosing the phone seems to be one thing, it seems from this thread there's a longer journey choosing a case!

Without fail I've accidentaly dropped every phone I've owned at some stage. All of them have survived with no more than a small scratch/scuff.
The iPhone has a glass screen which I feel makes it a LOT more fragile than my other tough plastic phones.
I also read a lot of people have cracking issues with both the white and black plastic backs of iPhones which leads me to think the plastic apple use is of crappier quality than the average nokia/SE/whatever.
So right from the start I looked for the thickest most bulky silicone case for my iPhone to at least give it some kind of chance of surviving the inevitable drop.
Its a hideously ugly case, but it gives me some peace of mind, and makes the slippery iPhone easier to hang on to :)

I had my Otterbox defender case before the phone came through the door! It may be uuggly but gosh it protects it. The kids can play with it outside it can sit in the muckiest spot or you can text whilst eating KFC. Just a wipe after and whoolah. You get used to its shape after a short while and it feels great in the hand.
+1. I am getting used to my otterbox too after having it for a couple of days. The thing that bugs me most is the air bubble problem with the screen. I have got an additional screen protector on the screen itself (belkin i think) but it still gets the bubbles.
I hear that if you smear baby powder on the otterbox screen it helps. I will try that tomorrow.
Otterbox really looks like it can take a bit of a hiding.
just my 2 bobs worth.
i dont know about your carbon case i (L) mine!! lost no signal in my house i get 1 bar 3G
and im still on 1 bar
its so light and looks so well made!! and it hides the white!!

I don't think the bars on the iPhone represent the signal strength in a linear fashion. When I'm in a really poor reception area (such as underground) I get 1 bar regardless of the carbon fibre case being on or off. If I'm in a really great reception area I get 5 bars regardless of the case. However if the reception is bordering on 4 to 5 bars, then the signal drop significantly (as per the video).
To get some decent data I'd need something that gives accurate, numeric signal strength – but I have no such hardware. Until then I'm just reporting my observations and trying to correlate my signal strength with my phone's location and casing.

Yes, these can be purchased at: more-iphone.com.au
Hope I'm not breaking this forum's rules by posting this link thou!

The best way round this is to get anti glare screen cover, stops the bubbles, looking at the screen you cant tell there's anything there. Perfect!
I got a Switcheasy Capsule Rebel today – Black on Black.
The regular (not the rebelserpent).
Purchased at Optus Shop – $39
I really love this case!!!
I originally had my mind set on an Air Jacket, but after reading through a few posts here I decided to go and have a look at the Rebel.
It fits very snugly, the back casing feels very protective, and I like the extra little value of getting a cloth, 2 screen guards, and a stand for watching movies / clips in landscape mode.
My favourite feature is the top – it clips around and covers all the chrome around the screen, and it sits about 1 to 2 mm above the height of the glass surface – this is just high enough so that it still feels flat and not bulky, but also enough clearance to give peace of mind if you drop it flat on it's front – the glass will not touch the ground.
If you are like me, and are resigned to the fact that you WILL inevitably drop your iphone at least SEVERAL times over the course of 2 years, then the Switcheasy Rebel is definitely worth getting for overall good value and durability. It is not as slim as the air jacket, but i have gotten to like the look and feel of the extra casing – almost feels a bit more 'blokey'.
I dont have a car cradle, so there may be issues fitting it in.. not sure. Also I hated all the other colour combos, and really not a fan of the Serpent edition, so I recommend searching out the black on black colour scheme – really happy with the look.
Hey guys,
Does anyone know a good place to buy Incase sliders within Australia (other than expansys... I think they are still having problems)? The cheapest I could find was $50 which is ridiculous considering I bought one on ebay from the US and had it shipped here for less than this...
cheers!

I initially was going to get the Capsule Rebel but seeing some reviews on youtube I decided to go with the Serpent.

Good sturdy and butch case, very confident it'll keep it safe. Always wanted my phone to go naked since I ever thought of buying but paranoia kicked in!
PS: nikstar44 is the whole case covering all parts of the bezel? And also is your bottom lip near the charger abit flimsy compared to the other parts of the case?
thoughts on contour showcase guys?
I always thought this case was a bit too compromised for its own good... like it wanted to be the Otterbox Defender but without the heft. That's fine but it just looks flimsy to me and I don't think much of the fact that the hinge on the back could well pop open if dropped. It also offers next to no dust protection at all, unlike the Otterbox. In this regard it is kinda similar to the Incase slider. The construction worries me...have a look on Youtube when its open... it looks flimsy as.
However, it does have a holster which is cool (but so does the Otterbox), and there is no silicone which is also cool, cause silicone just holds dust/lint like no-ones business. And its profile appears a LOT smaller than the Otterbox. The ports are also open too so that is cool, no obstacles there.
Cases are a real personal preference (I can't go past Speck Candyshells, I love them) but I would personally pass on this. I just don't think it really offers more protection than a lot of other smaller-profile cases and nowhere near the protection of the Otterbox.
Just my 2 cents.
Anyone know where I can purchase a speck candyshell locally? Can't seem to find anywhere, even ebay..
US$3.60 (inc.postage) for 3 cases. brilliant.

I got a Switcheasy Capsule Rebel today – Black on Black.
me too! awesome case, yes it hides the sexiness of the iphone – but if you avoid the white case (the white develops all sorts of smudges on it) then its a pretty good looking case...
Anyone know where I can purchase a speck candyshell locally? Can't seem to find anywhere, even ebay..
I got mine from mygearstore.com. The shipping is pretty damn fast (I have gotten everything within a week) but there are probably other retailers in Oz that stock them... I just don't know where!
Anyone have any suggestions for a holster/pouch/case?
I'm umming and aahing about what to do. I've got a Rebel Serpent which I love and is great. When I'm wearing my jeans I can get away with putting my iPhone in my pocket, it's a bit fiddly to get out but it's ok. There is no way I can put it in a pocket of any other pants as, being a girl, most pockets on pants are next to useless. I used to carry my Nokia E65 in my coat pocket but again coat pockets are too small and it'll get warm again soon. I just want to be able to take my phone around work (uni) without having to physically carry it. I also tend to try not to take a handbag with me if I can help it and shove stuff into jeans etc. I'm not used to having my phone tucked away in a bag!
Should I go the holster option? Too bulky/bad look for a slim woman?
Should I go the holster option? Too bulky/bad look for a slim woman?
I don't see no problem with it.
just put on my capsuleneo yesterday and i must say i am really loving it! it looks sleek it wasnt hard to put on and it still feels really slim im loving the nice matte and shiny black together!:) best case ive had so far got it off ebay for 35 shipped.
this arrived in the mail yesterday. http://www.ultra-case.com/product.php?pID=19
fits quite well and looks pretty. it shall do for now.

adding weight to this too – would love a holster (like shoulder, neck etc) to go with my iphone/rebelserpent combination. Would be nice to leave the handbag at home once in a while...
Anyone have any suggestions for an armband? I did see the Belkin one but the reviews looked rubbish.
http://www.moncarbone.com/ about $60
Mine arrived today it looks great on the phone although it doesn't offer much in the way of protection for the front of the phone so am not sure if I will be using at as my main everyday case.
I was in the Optus World shop in the Queen Street mall here in Brisbane, returning my iPhone on the Opt@rse cancelled plan and they had a heap Switch Easy Rebels in store plus the Serpent. So if anybody is interested in grabbing one of these excellent cases they are now starting to appear in the shops again.
I am still considering buying a Rebel Serpent
After going through many cases, I use this case.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/
This is the best crystal case in my opinion.
I use it with bestskinsever.
I think my iPhone is protected quite well.
Hey if anyone is looking for the Switcheasy Rebel they have some in DJ's Sydney CBD (Market St store) on the 7th floor – they had black/white, black/black, black/red & green/green..$39.95.
I got the red/black one and it looks really really cool.
Always wanted my phone to go naked since I ever thought of buying but paranoia kicked in!
I know EXACTLY how you feel. :)
Am getting a Rebel Serpent (Black) too and waiting for it as I got it from eBay.
Personally, I won't have a case without a hard screen cover. I've got both the Ivyskin Quattro T4, & the Otterbox Defender.
I use the Ivyskin most of the time (around the house/car), it doesn't have as much dust protection but fits my Yamaha amp dock without removing, the silicon feel doesn't collect any lint/dust as its not real silicon but more like a silicon paint.
The Otterbox is used when I go away on weekends but suffers slightly from the oil-slick issue under the screen, I found the perfect fix for it was to also use a power-support anti-glare film, it had to be applied very carefully though as the slightest bit of dust creates a bubble (it comes with a sticky cleaning film). The problem for me though is the Ivyskin doesn't fit when the film protector is also on, well it does but its such a tight fit that it doesn't come off without nearly breaking the Ivyskin, I've removed it and just put up with the oil-slick for the little time I use the otterbox.
Has anyone had success with like BSE and a rear cover without it peeling or looking like yuck? Considering this option now.
Yes, the Rebel Serpent (Black) looks cool.
But nakey iPhone is win!

This is going to sound somewhat excessive but I have a customised skin on the back of the phone plus a Rebel Serpent case.
I'll go naked towards the end of my contract though, I just can't trust myself with my clumsy hands. And besides, I don't want people to realise I have a 3GS, I'm an easy target on the train.
My SwitchEasy RebelSerpent arrived today i like it very much.
I used the screen protector that came with it but i was having problems with
bubbles tried it with both but no luck.
Anyway i ended buying the Crystal Film Set from the Apple store, and it attached
itself so nicely no bubbles at all and its hard to tell that it is on.
Could be after 2 tries with the other too i came good with it. But don't think so.

cheers

Yeah I found the Power Support protectors go on real easy compared to the Switcheasy ones... get what you pay for I suppose
ffs
ive looked everywhere for a half decent looking leather case
they do not exist
how can there not be a plain leather flip?
Power Support's Air Jacket + anti-glare film
That's all you need.
Air Jacket is by far the thinnest iPhone condom out there
it's like it's not even there.
And the Anti-Glare film prevents any finger prints so you will never have to clean your iPhone screen again.
anyone know of any nice cases around town hall sydney ? looking for something that's not going to take the sharpness look off the iphone..
Just got my Moshi Iglaze 3g in the mail today, cost $25 inc postage off ebay, came from San Francisco, ordered Thursday morning so took under a week to get here. Very easy to install and looks great, very slim and protects the corners well. Not sure that i will keep the screen protector on that came with it as it doesnt seem to stick down properly around a bit of the edge.
overall very happy with it.
I've spent $300 over the last 12 months on cases. Yes, it's sad. I have a $15 fake leather rigid no-brand slip case, 2 silicon covers (Speck and Gecko), a Belkin Flip Folio, a foof soft slip cover thing, a Capsule Rebel and a couple of REALLY cheap but pretty snap-on covers for the back of the phone.
Right now I'm using a $5 clear PVC cover and a gelaskin. Slips easily into my jeans and lets me enjoy the gelaskin while retaining some impact protection. Here's a pic: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/67170/iphone.jpg
Anyone know of places to get decent cases in sydney cbd ? i've been to many shops these last few days and they seem to have crappy/ugly looking ones. Looking for invisible shield or something similar..
I got my two Zagg Invisible Shields that I ordered a week ago direct from Zagg.
Applied the backing to my iPhone tonight and and very happy with the results so far.
After reading about how many people have taken upto an hour or more to apply the backing, I was careful to watch a few video demonstrations of applying it and reading all the tips I could find.
I was also worried about the water getting all over the device!
However, when it came time to apply it, I just followed the basic steps, sprayed the sheet, sprayed a little onto the back of the iPhone, lined up the camera slot and dropped it all into place.
It fit perfectly first go and from first unpeeling to leaving it to rest and dry, it only took about 10 minutes!
(Definitely not the hour+ some had suggested)
There are the expected streaks and micro-bubbles that have been reported, but I'm hoping like everyone else that they go away after a few days.
Water wasn't a problem, definitely no way you would trigger the water damage tags unless you sprayed directly into the headphone jack or interface socket!
I've now had the chance to try out an Incase Slider for a few days. Prior to this, I was using a Sena Ultra Slim pouch.
Positives:
- I feel much more confident using the phone – I'm not worried about dropping or scratching it anymore.
- It looks decent.
Negatives:
- Dust and fingerprints are harder to wipe off the screen. Dust also seems to collect around the edges of the screen, which is a bit annoying.
- It feels bulky compared to the naked iPhone.
I still haven't decided if I'll stick with the Slider, or go back to the Sena pouch.
im not even using a case no more, was using the iskin solo, then found the phone was overheating, now using it naked :)
Been using a black SwitchEasy Colours since I purchased my iPhone 3G 6 months ago. I've dropped it a few times from 4-5 ft and it didn't even make a mark on the case. I'm using the screen protector that came with it – can't fault it.
It fit perfectly first go and from first unpeeling to leaving it to rest and dry, it only took about 10 minutes!

+1 the wife put mine on the other day full body looked a little to easy.
Maybe all those years of contacting the kids school books.
When i got the iphone i was adamant about having a case and keeping it on but now I just cant do it! It feels so much nicer in the hand without it...
I'm now team no case :) screen protector yes.
Got a Incase Slider today, bloody awesome cover. It looks like hard plastic but its actually really grippy and has a rubbery feel.
I had a Rebel Serpent for two days but it was too slippery, bulky and the buttons were covered by hard plastic.
I have the silicone case and screen belkin screen protector. I see lots of people with naked iPhones and it makes me wonder why they don't have some sort of protection
When i got the iphone i was adamant about having a case and keeping it on but now I just cant do it! It feels so much nicer in the hand without it...
I was the opposite. Right from the beginning, I was determined to go caseless...I thought that as long as I was careful, the phone would be fine.
Of course a few weeks later, I managed to get a nasty set of scratchs on the chrome bezel. I've learned my lesson – I'll be using a case from now on!
I highly recommend the powersure screen protector. By far this is the best. Fingerprints on the screen are minimal. I also have the 'backing' from bodyguardz. This is a little painful to put on but works well.
To top it all off I have a Beyza slimline case that has an open cut at the bottom to charge while the phone is in the case and an exposed top to get to the power button and headphone jack. Overall this case looks great and does not add bulk to the phone.
I just got an otterbox case
I've only had it for a couple of hours but so far it's not annoying me!
I think it was about $50 *from ebay*
I use the Otterbox on my two iPhones, my iPod Touch and iPod Classic.
While some think they are a little bulky I like the protection they give me.
monocarbone.com....very nice carbon fiber case, noloss of reception and the thing is tight as on the phone....
+1 the wife put mine on the other day full body looked a little to easy.
Maybe all those years of contacting the kids school books.
Yep, I just put one on my wife's iPhone too and it looked even better on the white model!
Cant see any streaks or bubbles, and it only took me 5 minutes.
Also, mine has nicely dried and all the microbubbles and streaks are gone, so I'm very happy with the results.
Will definitely recommend the Zagg Invisible Shield to those who want to go case free. (I was even confident enough to do the 'key scratch' test on it infront of some friends, and performed perfectly!)
bought myself a helium digital leatherback flip, really nice case cause i wanted a leather flip =D my other case is an incase slider for when i get sick of the leather lols
Of course a few weeks later, I managed to get a nasty set of scratchs on the chrome bezel. I've learned my lesson – I'll be using a case from now on!
ooo yeah i've scratched the top corner plastic.. but black nicko pen covered that nicely! I thought about going back to case but that didn't last long. What to do :) It's risky!
I have (a couple of hours ago) received my Incase slider (white for a black 3GS) and I LOVE the feel of it. I have had my screen protector bubble a little at the bottom, but I had read enough about them to know this might happen and it doesn't really worry me.
I am a massive Speck candyshell fan so thought I would do a quick comparison of the two...
1. Phone protection:
Well this is interesting as the candyshell has a bit of a buffer between the phone and the case as the inside of the case is FULLY lined with a soft silicone, which means that I am not too concerned about occasional drops. The Incase has two thin rubber-like rails that grip onto the phone and create a very snug fit, but I don't have the same level of confidence re: drops as I do the Speck. The Incase is just too form-fitting for me to be convinced here.
However one area where the Incase excels I believe is bezel protection. With the Speck, the face of the chrome bezel is exposed. Now how easy it would be to scratch this is something else entirely as the protruding lip of silicone around the face of the phone creates quite a lay-on-the-table design. Regardless with the Incase the bezel is completely covered. This is a good thing.
A bad point about the Incase (at least I see it as bad) is the buttons are fully exposed. With the Speck, only the ringer switch is exposed, which means no scratches on the covered chrome switches, and also less places to have lint/dust sneak in.
2.Ease of use (on and off):
I gotta rate the Speck and the Incase pretty much the same. They are both very snug fitting cases, and while it may be a *smidgen* easier to remove the candyshell, its not really noticeable. In my examples, BOTH are a bit of a pain to remove compared to something like a silicone case... but this is a hardshell trade off that I am more than happy to live with.
In terms of the access to buttons, the Incase is slightly better than the Speck due to the fact all buttons are exposed, and not covered by the case at all. The Speck's sleep button cover is notoriously annoying as there is no physical "give" when you press the button, but the Incase does not have this problem.
Also, there is a possibility with the Incase that your particular screen shield may well bubble a bit due to the tight fit of the edges. This is not possible with the Speck as no part of this case touches the face of the phone.
3. The feel:
The Incase wins hands down. It is less bulky than the Speck, and has no silicone-feeling parts exposed at all (which I hate, nothing worse than lint-magnet silicone). The Incase is smooth and form-fitting and it's a great feel. While the Speck also has a smooth feel (bar the logo, which is silicone again) the silicone-meets-hardshell design makes the form feel bulkier in my hand. Also, the join work in the plastic of the Incase is of a higher quality than the Speck, so you don't feel ridges when you run your hand over the plastic edges.
4. The Price.
This is where I have noting but criticism for the Incase. Basically, to get one from the local apple store means you're up 50 clams (or thereabouts) and when you import them (as I did) it ain't much better. In Australia, you also only get four colour choices (white, black, grey and BRIGHT pink) which is ridiculous, as one look at the Incase website reveals a veritable rainbow of colour. $50 for a plain plastic case is insanity.
The Speck offers (arguably) more protection, just as much if not more engineering and a similar look for $36US including shipping via international courier. I'm sure if sourced locally you could do better. Not to mention that it comes in six or seven different colour combos that I am aware of, including straight colours like white and black. Variety is the spice of life if you ask me, and Incase offering 4 straight colours in this country is ridiculous...
5. Winner?
Nope. I ain't gunna play that game, I have had the Incase for two hours so am not in the right position to say "yay" or "nay" to one of them. What I will say is that at this stage, the Speck offers more protection and value for money than the Incase. What the Incase does have over the Speck is a better feel in the hand, and a definate "cool" vibe that might well give it an edge.
Hope this might help any particular purchasers :-)
May I ask where from and how much?
chatswood apple store sydney $49.95
you can also order off the apple store website :)
Yeah nothing beats the Incase IMO. There's a replica from spider-foot.com (posted on here sometime back) for $6 shipped.
Case Mate also sell a very similar case for $39.95 but it uses a little "clip" to keep them together (same as the spider-foot knockoff).
Frankly, spending the $49.95 for the Incase Slider Case knowing I will never buy another case again makes me justify it. So many people have bought multiple cases that total more than $49.95, and they're still not satisfied.
Btw, couple it with the Power Support Anti-Glare Film (also at Apple stores) and your iPhone will look quite impressive (mine does :D).

It's a nice match :)
Do you get people commenting on it? Everytime I pull my phone out my pocket at work I get "ooooo that's a nice case" and then they see the film and go "oooooo no bubbles that looks sweet!"

Bought it, using it, love it!

haha i get the awesome screen protector, looks like its not even on there!
Not sure if anyone has posted this already but here it is anyway.
iSkin Solo FX now available from Apple for $49.95 and free shipping of course.
Is this the best case for protecting against drops?
Yes. No others come close for drop and dust protection imo
http://www.maconline.com.au/
does this case cover the plugs and adaptors??
It doesn't cover the headphone jake but it does cover everything else and has a little adapter which covers the connector on the bottom.
Yes. No others come close for drop and dust protection imo
Cool. Only available online and from the US?
Do you guys reckons its worth investing in a mophone juice air pack ? or just get a normal case & forget it
My mate has a case which is from Gizmobies (or something like that) and I was just wondering where I could get it from? Is it a special shop or just any shop that sells em? Anyone know any places that sell it in Parramatta region in Sydney?
Only available online and from the US?
Got mine from http://cgi.ebay.com.au/OTTERB
Took a week from payment made (im in the middle of nowhere) and they contacted me when needed. Recommend them.
i bought my capsuleneo from him too great seller. however my speck toughskin didnt show up so i got a refund top bloke
I guess no one has bought this case that I'm looking for ...:(
Edit: Anyone at least know a good place to buy good quality iPhone cases in western Sydney???
You can get "Gizmobies" at Bondi Junction Westfields and Chatswood Westfields. They have dedicated Gizmobies booths. Some of the major telcos may also have a limited range in store for Iphones as a wholesaler is now stocking a range of 10 styles just for Iphone. The dedicated booths have over 100 styles and have other devices available as well. Cheers

Ah, interesting. Thanks dude. Yeah my mate told me he bought his from Bondi but I figured there's several of these stores around Sydney. It's a pity I don't live anywhere near there :(
Will probably have to pop in one day when/if I'm in the area as going there specifically just for a case I cannot be stuffed doing. I'll look around Telco stores too and see if there's anything.

Got mine from ebay after much research – this was the cheapest and best deal I could find .... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBa
Great communication and took just over week to get here
do you think if i put a 'best skin ever' on my iphone (white) it would make the back over heat it? or will it be fine ?
Anyone got a Vaja case ?
they look amazing
http://www.vajacases.com/home/home_en.html
Where can you get em from? Besides online.
Ideally somewhere in western Sydney for me would be good.
Edit: Forget that. They're a rip off.
I'm having trouble trying to decide on a case for my 3GS. My problem is that I regularly dock my iPhone in my FM transmitter (it's a Belkin Tunebase one with the dock) and our speaker dock at home. Because of this I really need a case that I can easily slip on or off. Even one like the incase slider probably won't work with the FM transmitter dock. The cradle it sits in on the dock really hugs the phone so no real room to have a case on unless it's really thin.
I'm just not sure about the silicon ones. I'd be able to slip these on or off but do they attract dust etc real bad? I've heard they do?
Anyone got the same FM transmitter as me in their car? If so, what case do you have?
No, they're high-end. Major difference.
As are these
http://www.theiphoneblo
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
But they are definitely A HIGH END RIP OFF! :)
But they are definitely A HIGH END RIP OFF!
I've had Vaja cases in the past, and while I'm unlikely to do so again, they're not a rip-off.
i have ordered one of these off ebay for $10
http://www.otterbox.com/i
its only a silicone case but i have read some reviews and watched some videos on youtue about it seems to be very good
and for $10 ya cant complain
My choice is probably JB hifi
they dont have a wide selection but better then some stores.
i went to the apple store in the city and i picked up a agent 18 gloss clip on back cover for it, plus a anti glare film.
i have ordered one of these off ebay for $10
Would you have a link please. I have tried to search but obviously used the wrong terms.
Thanks

Just bought a gizmobies case from Bondi today for $25 and it's excellent. Makes the iPhone look even more sexier!

Which pattern did you get ? And did they show you how they stick to glass and smooth metals ?

Yep. I stuck it in my car windscreen to test it out. It's quite funky. I got a green one with some funky designs and a dragon on it.
Just bought a gizmobies case
Can you tell me a little more about these?
The designs on their website look the goods but the site itself tells you SFA about the case itself.
What is it made of? How does it feel? How does it fit? How the hell does it stick to a windscreen and how well does it stick there?
Cheers!

They are made from a thickish PVC material (3M product), that does not scratch. You can indent them with your nail and the impression just pops out. Virtually scratchproof. The sticky bit is also 3M and you can remove it without it leaving any residue on the phone/device – it comes off clean. As for sticking, well, you have to see it to believe it. I am not a fan of using the Iphone on the windscreen as the back is too curved to get a good grip, but my Ipod will stick for hours. As they stick directly to a device, no dirt can get between them and the device to scratch the back. This I find is an issue with silicons and even the hard covers that have a little 'give' in them. To a degree because the front is raised, you have some protection for the screen as well.
Definetly makes the phone grippier without the same 'sticking' issues that silicons and TPU's have going in and out of your pocket.
Lots of new 'surprises' coming soon too. You'll see these for quite a few new phones soon. Great product and one that actually has a lifetime warranty that the company upholds. Nothing else I sell has that backup.
Cheers
What ^^^^ he said.
It's not really a case, but more a skin. It feels excellent when you pick it up. Makes the phone look a lot better and that's say something considering it looks sexy as it is. How it sticks to glass, I have no idea, but it does a pretty damn good job of it.

The yanks put a man on the moon as well – I don't know how they did that either :)
The skins are made in Las Vegas, so I guess that says enough LOL

Hehe. You got one of these as well?
Are the gizmobies any different to gelaskins? What's the local price?
I have no idea what gelaskins are, sorry. I got mine for $30 today. A little expensive actually, but I'm still happy with it.
I too have Gizmobies. The $30 is good value considering they have a lifetime warranty. I've seen lesser quality stuff in some shops for the same price. I bought 2 for $50 and saw the gelaskins, they are just a sticker and provide no protection or the 'sticky' abilities of the Gizmobies. I had a gelaskin to start with and when I took it off, it left all sort of shit on my iPhone, that I had to remove with metho.
I've just ordered some more gizz's for the wife and kids. Love um !
The only thing that annoys me about the Gizmobies case is that it doesn't protect the sides of the iPhone :(
Can someone take a photo of the gizmobie? There's not much online about them. Can they be ordered online?
Do they offer any impact/drop protection?

+1
Would like to see some detail shots of the fit and finish of them if possible.
Could anyone please recommend a case suitable for taking the iphone snow skiing ? I tried the search function but nothing came up.
Cheers
Poncho

I asked the guys who sell them and they say no to online at the moment as the Aussie distributor is getting set to roll out their site soon. They are available in QLD and NSW from shops so far from what they told me. 2 Places on the Goldie have a big range, one at Harbourtown and one at Centro in Surfers.

Otterbox............ importer has no stocks for a week or so available for shops, so you may need to go online.
I saw this really cool iPhone case this morning on my tram ride to work. I asked the lady the name of the case – she had no idea! It is a case with a shiny/silvery back plate with the see-through Apple logo at the back. It is very slim.
Would any one of you might know the name of this case I am talking about so that I can find out where to buy from?
Thanks in advance.

Perfect, just down the road. Will have to stop by this weekend.
thanks for the info
I must got a Capsule rebel red devil, a legit one from telstra shop. Nice case
Beware of many cheap imitations of this case from China
It is a case with a shiny/silvery back plate with the see-through Apple logo at the back. It is very slim.
It might have been the incipio Feather Case that you were looking at, seen a couple of them around and sold a few, so they are around. How shiny was it? If its very shiny it probably is not this.
They are a bit see through, 1mm thick.

I'm in Hong Kong atm and that sounds like the typical cheap hard-back clip-case which seems to be a very popular one around here. The apple logo is cut-out on the back and it comes in heaps of colours and patterns. Most of them are shiny. It's only about $5 Oz here.
I bought a Capsule Neo copy today at the phone markets in Mong Kok. $6 Oz and it looks great!

maybe you saw a moshi iglaze case
something like this?

maybe you saw a moshi iglaze case
The one I was thinking he saw is not like this. That is a round cut out. The one I have seen all around HK has an apple shape cutout just around the iphone logo.
Hey guys,
i'm looking for a case that has a rubber interior and hard shell outside. Particularly one that is thin but able to protect the iphone and it must not have any patterns. Hopefully one that has just a black outer shell that wraps around the bevel edges as well.
I have only seen one so far like this: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/reveal
Anyone know where i can find one in Sydney, shipping costs are outrageous to Australia on the site. If possible, anyone know a store that sells it cheap with low/no shipping costs or suggest something similar (prefereably the same)?
I can tell you what NOT to get. Do NOT buy one of those cheap chinese iphone screen protectors from telechoice (or whatever its called). Just bought one for 10$ today. Crap. It doesn't stick properly and has dust bubbles everywhere
They are a bit see through, 1mm thick.

Not this one. Thanks, anyway.
something like this?

It is the one! Thank you. :D Now, I just have to find a local store that stocks this case.
Cheers!
Got my Speck PixelSkin yesterday. Looks great! :D
No offense but eew! These cases are rugged but butt ugly. They add so much bulk to the device I might as well own a WM or Nokia phone.
I must say, the Switcheasy Colors are much nicer than people think they are – $20 for the case + 2 screen protectors. Loads of colours too.
I'm still amazed how people think the Rebels look good though :/
It is the one! Thank you. :D Now, I just have to find a local store that stocks this case.

ur welcome!
im looking for a new case as well... dont know what to get, ive already got a cynett one, iskin solo, and a incase slider.
Need something much thinner, not looking for any invisible shields or anything like that
any invisible shields
Bloody invisible shields and their finicky installation process. I am over it! The one on my iPhone 3G is coming off at the end. I had to rub in some methanol before it would stick back in.
No more invisible shields for me either.

lol i ripped one off my old 3G and it pulled my screen up slightly!
i need a new case, currently using it naked..
any suggestions?

Err not really. It is actually one of the better looking cases in the market and are known more for looks than hard on protection. And it doesn't add much bulk tbh, it's a fine looking case. I've got so many comments from my mates about how good it looks. Hope you're not confusing it with Otterbox Defender :D
Also, every nice protective case will some bulk to the device. If it doesn't, then it doesn't protect enough.
Hey guys, been searching around for iphone cases myself, here are some brands/cases that you guys might want to check out.
rebelscholar – nice hard shell cover, like the incase slider but with more variety of designs
otterbox – great protection
ifrogz luxe case
speck candyshell
xtreme mac tuffwrap
iskin solo/fx
hope this helps,
cheers.
Guys currently using the Power Support Air Jacket case which I bought at the apple store when I purchased my iphone 3gs a fortnight ago but am getting over it as I don't like seeing tiny specs of dust on the back which seem to seep thru the camera opening etc. Though the case is so light and thin at times you forget it has a case it doesn't offer real protection against drops and the dust issue.
Been looking at the SwitchEasy Capsule Rebel Tiger iPhone Case on the internet. Anyone used them and have any suggestions as to whether I should or shouldn't get one of these.
pccasegear are selling them for $29.00 .
It is actually one of the better looking cases in the market
Maybe I was looking at the wrong pictures from my google search. Could you please provide links to some pictures of the case you are referring to in order to avoid any confusion. Thanks a bunch! :)

Some people love their looks – I'm not one of them. Having kept an eye on this thread for some time, I've decided that what makes a case look and feel good is a very personal choice... I don't think there's a single case out there which would be unanimously well-liked.
i use the SwitchEasy Capsule Rebel case for my new 3GS ...

Apologies for the late reply and blurry pictures, but here's a couple of pictures of my gizmobies case. They're not great pictures, but it's something I guess :)
Dude were did you buy that case from?
I'm still amazed how people think the Rebels look good though :/
I agree, really don't like them, with them on, the iPhone feels like a brick.

I gave mine to the wife, which is perfect for bouncing around in her handbag
Maybe I was looking at the wrong pictures from my google search.
Or maybe you were looking at the right ones and you genuinely didn't like it. :D It all comes down to personal preference I guess as already said by Bob the Kelpie. But I found a few pics on google anyway (in which at least to me, they don't look ugly :))

Looks like I was. You cheeky bugger! =P You got together images of the black Speck case. Now that I had a good look through the links you posted above, I have to admit the black speck case doesn't look that bad after all. I was seeing all sorts of funny colors before – from green to orange to pink which made the iPhone look like a kid's toy with the Speck case on.
Thanks for the links, GH. :)
Man, i've viewed heaps of YT videos on cases lately..
Looks like the best case with a holster/belt clip is the Otterbox Defender yeah? Seems to have everything I need + you don't need a separate anti-glare/fingerprint cover for the front either right?
SwitchEasy Capsule Rebel
It's not cheap (when you count shipping), but PC Case gear stock these and ship next day. They've got a nice range of colours too.
(I know it's not "in Brisbane", but hope it helps anyway).
I have an Otterbox and use it mainly when I am doing construction work because it basically seals the iPhone and helps keep dust out. The only issue that I have with this case is that it can leave a "watermark effect" on the screen, because the screen and built-in screen protector don't always touch properly. One solution is to clean the inside of the Otterbox screen protector with an isopropyl/water solution (like you would use for cleaning LCD TVs) and wiping the (clean) palm of your hand on the iPhone screen a couple of times. Another solution is to add a screen protector to the iPhone before putting it in the case. I have found though, that you may still need to use the first method, to stop the "watermarking effect", even with the screen protector on the iPhone. But it is a great case, especially if the odds are high, that your phone is going to get dirty. It adds quite a bit of bulk to the iPhone and a lot of my friends say they wouldn't use it because of this but it is the best solution for me when doing constuction work.
James Edward McCarthy writes...
It's not cheap (when you count shipping), but PC Case gear stock these and ship next day. They've got a nice range of colours too.
(I know it's not "in Brisbane", but hope it helps anyway).
I just got the black Rebel Capsule Serpent from them. The shipping hurt ($30 case, +$16 for shipping) but I have absolutely no worries about damaging my iPhone now.
Much niceness.
Received my Mophie Juice Pack Air from Warcom yesterday. Great service from them.
Got it on the phone now to give it a run to flatten the battery in it so I can give it a full charge before heading off on a 20+ hour trip to Europe.
Hasn't added as much bulk to the phone as I expected it would TBH. I was using a Spider Foot Incase Slider clone case anyway so the jump from a cased iPhone to a Mophie cased iPhone wasn't all that big. It would be a big difference going from a naked iPhone to a Mophie cased iPhone however.
I haven't turned the "case" on yet, I am going to drain the iPhone internal battery to 5% and then flick the switch on the Mophie to see how it goes with powering/charging the almost flat iPhone. This will just be using the charge that the Mophie ships with. The LED's indicate it is fully charged from the factory but I have no real way of knowing at this stage.
My only minor gripe with it is the fit of the top section of the case. It doesn't fit perfectly flush with the top of the iPhone, leaving a gap of approx 1 mm between the top of the iPhone and the top of the case. As I said minor but still there and presumably easily avoidable at manufacture.
Dude were did you buy that case from?
It's called gizmobies. I don't know where they are outside of Sydney, but in Sydney you can get them from Chatswood & Bondi Westfields.
Do a search on youtube for The Otterbox & talcum powder as applying a very small amount of talcum powder fixes this issue.
Blah Blah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm ok im in Melbourne :S
I just bought a Incipio Feather case. http://www.myincipio.com/cate
I wanted something that wouldn't add too much bulk but add some protection to the sides and back of the phone. Lots of cool colours to choose from too.
It got some good reviews on youtube.
When i bought my ipod 4-5 years ago, i bought a bunch of "socks" and i still have like 3-4 new ones.
Are they sufficient to protect the iphone?
Your iPhone is a piece of glass on one side, and shiny metal on the other.
A sock will protect it to an extent. So will candle wax.
Depends on what it needs 'protecting' from.....
The sock will protect from scratches from small materials on a table at work or just sitting there at home or in the car...
Its not going to protect it from a drop, doubt many of the "cases" will really protect from a drop (its all down to luck).
anyways i just have them and thought i will just use it.
As to the rebelserpent... what is the screen protector like that comes with the case?? Is it any good? or should i get the crystal film from apple?
I also looked at the noel collection from MORE. They look pretty good
I was using the iPhone with Invisible Shield and the Sena leather case. Dropped the phone (without the Sena case) on some tiles....1 corner bashed in. Small gap between chrome and plastic near the port at the bottom.
Stripped the IS off the back and now using Rebel Serpent. Fully protected now. Should have done this earlier.

See, this is why I think the extra bulk is worth it – you don't regret putting looks above protection until you drop/scratch the thing once. Chances are, it'll happen eventually, as you'll carry it with you every day.
I don't mind a bulky phone anyway, as I carry it in a holster – not in my pocket (I couldn't imagine even a naked iphone being comfortable in a pocket).
gizmobies.net.au (nothing is sold through that website)
I wish I knew that website before I bought mine :)
It's been mentioned here a few times I think but I'm using a combo:
Screen:
http://store.apple.com/au/pr
Casing:
http://store.apple.com/au/pr
The "in-case" "Slider"...
There's reports of marks left on the phone or the rubberised liner pieces coming away, but I've experienced none of this. Nor has it ever come apart when pulling it out of my pocket, only ever had issues pulling it apart when I wanted to clean some lint out of in-between the casing and phone....
Great case, very happy.
I'm still having trouble finding the 'perfect' case for my 3GS. My trouble is I have a Belkin Tunebase FM transmitter which has a dock as part of it. To dock the iPhone in it I need to remove whatever case I have on it as it's quite a tight fit in the dock's cradle.
I don't mind the Switcheasy Rebel Serpent but it wouldn't be any good with my FM transmitter situation as it doesn't look quick to take on and off.
My other option is some sort of leather case to slip it in and out of perhaps. Any other ideas?? Anyone else have the same issue?
Is the Phone Devil one of the better screen protectors?
Not sure which screen protector to buy. Just looking over youtube reviews now.
From the reviews on the apple website, the crystal film seems to get 90% positive reviews, so i think i will go with that one...
I don't really like the "slider" casing from Apple, it doesn't look very attractive to me, as i don't really need mine to slide...
I'm really just looking for something slim and protects a little.
As much as i like the iphone (and don't want to damage it), im not going to have it wrapped up in a pretty ugly plastic case. It really defeats the purpose of having an iphone.
Thats why i kinda like the MORE. cases, as they look pretty good, and it will protect it for a while.
Im really looking for something that will protect it for the 1st year (max), as the 2nd year i think i will just take all the casing off and screen protection off, as after that if i drop it i won't be as painful.
As much as i like the iphone (and don't want to damage it), im not going to have it wrapped up in a pretty ugly plastic case. It really defeats the purpose of having an iphone.
How? So you can look "fancy" when you hold up the Apple logo down the street?
I don't really like the "slider" casing from Apple, it doesn't look very attractive to me, as i don't really need mine to slide...
It slides on so it's not going to pop off easily like other cases, and the bottom part slides off so you can connect it to a dock – if you're not doing that then you're not going to be sliding anything. If I dropped my phone, I'm pretty sure the case is going nowhere as it's such a tight fit.
Don't bother with films unless you get an anti-glare one – the protection films are pretty useless IMO.
Hard to tell how a case looks from a website, but here's the Incase Slider (posting these again cos it's a great case IMO).

Note: Photos taken before I bought the Power Support Anti-Glare film.
My iSkin Solo FX just arrived this week and I'm loving the feel of the gel-like rubber case – it gives me a good grip but doesn't feel overdone. The reflective mirror screen protector works very well indoors but today, I found out that it's too glare-y when trying to use the phone outdoors in sunshine (was trying to take a photo and could barely see the screen). Auto screen brightness also seems to be not enough anymore with the mirror shield so I've had to turn off the auto. Otherwise, well worth the money spent. :)
Not sure where it can be bought in Australia – I got mine from ebay (cheaper than from the iSkin online store).
http://www.iskin.com/solo/features_fit.html
EDIT: was browsing on the Apple store and they have the FXs but only in 4 colors.
well sorta yes!! why buy a $1000+ phone when you are just going to wrap it around with protection? Its the same reason why people buy ipods... it is just a trend, when there are better phones out there and cheaper no?
Don't get me wrong, i understand why alot of people do do it, simply because it is so expensive. Therefore some protection is needed.
Please explain a little on the protection firm... i've been doing some research on whether to get it or not... im not usually a clumsy person... my old phone nokia 8800, i've never dropped it (in like a whoops it slipped while i was talking), the only time i've dropped the phone in 3 years is running for the bus and it dropped out accidentally (as i catch public transport like once every 2-3 years, and i drop my phone in that one time lol)
The only thing i sometimes do it put car/house keys in the same pocket as the phone... would that scratch the screen? that is probably the only reason im thinking about getting screen protection and a pretty slim case at the back. As i know i don't drop my phone at all (fingers crossed).
On the glare thing... is it really that bad?? i've read some bad reviews on the anti glare film as well. (imo it is something you either do need it or you don't isn't it?) kinda depends where and when you use it...
I will get either the anti glare or crystal film probably depends how i feel... but i do want protection of the screen from the 1st day..
Just curious to anyone who uses the iphone as a gps in the car... will i need the anti glare for something like that? driving in the sun...?
the crystal film seems to get 90% positive reviews, so i think i will go with that one...
That's the one which is less "cloudy" than the anti-glare at first glance, but fingerprints are more noticible on it compared to the anti-glare.
What negative comments have you heard about the anti-glare? That's the one i'd be going for personally.
i heard it has a matte finish and some pixelation , not as shiny and clean as without it... i guess that is why there is glare lol
I've got a carbon fiber case. Cost me a bit, but it's three layers and looks the goods. My phones have like concrete, so I thought it's worthy spending a bit on it to get a decent one.
Hard to tell how a case looks from a website, but here's the Incase Slider (posting these again cos it's a great case IMO).
Great pics, they really capture the Sliders fit. I have mine in White and think it's the best thing since sliced bread. It was mentioned above:
why buy a $1000+ phone when you are just going to wrap it around with protection? Its the same reason why people buy ipods... it is just a trend, when there are better phones out there and cheaper no?
This is true, but in my case I have protection now as a result of damage received without it and I highly doubt anyone here has purchased a casing out of a "trend"....
(this happened 4 days after receiving my iPhone 3GS direct from Apple)
I had ordered my casing but it hadn't arrived, I was moving house and was filling the trailer on the back of the car, I left the iPhone on the top of the dash (BA Falcon) in front of the steering wheel, I thought it would be fine while I threw a few things in the trailer...WRONG!!.
I had placed it face down so that it wouldn't go anywhere but I hadn't counted on it ringing (DAH!!.....It's a phone!!) and when it did, the vibration caused it to move!!! It dropped off the dash, bounced off the drivers seat, hit the bushes opposite the car and then directly onto the concrete driveway. Needless to say it had a gouge on the corner, scratches all over the back and basically looked pretty ugly, I swear it flipped (In slow-mo I might add) about 100 times, the bounce off the drivers seat really propelled it.
I watched in totally dismay from the rear of the car!!!
Buy a casing?.......absolutely bloody right you should. My 3GS wears a slider now in order to hide the gruesome scars, I was lucky the main impact was the top right corner, the screen is un-blemished and with the slider on you cant tell what it's been through, still.......my advice to all is buy the case immediately, in fact decide on a casing and purchase it BEFORE you buy the phone.
My placing it on the dash of the car may have been a moment of poor judgement, but we all do this from time to time (I was racing against the clock to get things finished), accident's do and will happen despite being extra careful. My last two phones are still unmarked and I would consider myself a tech whore, I have always looked after all my things with severe OCD, don't kid yourself what happened to me can happen to anyone.
Just buy a case!!! $40-60 bucks versus a scratched and battle weary iPhone that looks like puss without a skin on!!!
My other option is some sort of leather case to slip it in and out of perhaps. Any other ideas??
You might want to try out http://www.beyzacases.com/
This was mentioned in the thread earlier and they have plenty of leather protection for the iPhone.
Mophie Air battery case update.
Well the initial charge the Mophie shipped with was next to useless. My iPhone got to 10% last night so I flicked the switch on the Mophie to the on position and as expected the iPhone beeped and showed the battery icon changed to indicate it was charging.
The initial charge in the Mophie got the iPhone to 34% before going flat and shutting itself down. The iPhone battery icon changed back to the normal battery icon to indicate it was running off the internal battery again.
I took the Mophie off the iPhone and charged it over night on a wall plug adaptor. Fully charged as of this morning so it is now back on the iPhone which is now at 33% with the Mophie turned off.
When the iPhone gets to 10 or maybe even 5% again I will flick the Mophie switch back on and see what happens with it fully charged.
Will report back when further results are to hand!
If you are after a waterproof phone case then
You sell these, correct? And have already had a post removed about them?
Much better to admit your involvement rather than try to pass off as a disinterested party.
Just ordered a SwitchEasy Capsule Rebel Tiger iPhone Case off rushfaster.com.au as www.pccasegear.com/ were out of stock.
pccasegear had them advertised for 29.95 + 12.00 delivery but have been out of stock for the past month. I logged on to rushfaster and saw a price beat deal as they had it advertised for 39.95 + 9.95 delivery however only charged me for 38.95 all up inclusive of gst and delivery.
Have read nothing but positive reviews on these and they offer strong and sturdy protection.

SwitchEasy Capsule Rebel Tiger
You'd think the marketing department could do better than that behemoth mouthful, considering it's a good priced, good looking unit.
I just received my SwitchEasy Capsule Neo from an eBay seller in the US. $34.99 including postage and it arrived in 7 days from date of order. Very happy with it!
Ordered a case from ultra-case.com this week, they have some really nice looking cases. It cost 34.99 including postage. Will let you know what its like when I get it!
Can anyone tell me if the Incase Slider will add extra bulk to the phone to stop it fitting into a standard slip in pouch?
I've been using an iLuv slide on style black plastic case which is pretty bulky and was wondering if the Incase Slider has less bulk.
Can anyone tell me if the Incase Slider will add extra bulk to the phone to stop it fitting into a standard slip in pouch?
Yeah wont fit mate had the same problem...
Of those of you that have the Incase Slider, have any of you noticed any buffing or scratching of the iPhone under the case? There's a few reviews saying the case damaged their iPhone, just want to see if that's the case, or just a grumpy competitor putting in a dodgy review...
There's a few reviews saying the case damaged their iPhone,
That guy (it'smemorphius) on Youtube who reviews heaps of cases has said that the Rebel Scholar improves on the Incase Slider in every way, including price – says the $19US models are just as good as the $100US ones.
Anyone know where I can purchase a Rebel Scholar either here in AU or somewhere in the US that will ship it here?
I put on the bodyguardz skin when i got my iPhone. It was quite easy, i don't know what all the fuss was about?
In any case, i'm happy with the skin, i really only wanted something for scratch protection and did not want a bulky case. So fits my criteria perfectly.
Anyone know where I can purchase a Rebel Scholar either here in AU or somewhere in the US that will ship it here?
Does anyone with a screen protector (such as the Power Support Anti-glare), ALSO have a case (such as the Rebel Scholar), and does the case rub on the protector at all causing damage/bubbles to the protector?
For anyone interested here is an update re my Mophie Juice Pack Air.
My iPhone got to 2% battery last night so I flicked the power switch on the Mophie to the on position. Phone beeped and the charge icon appeared to indicate the battery was charging.
The Mophie got my iPhone to 67% charge before it obviously went flat itself and stopped charging. The iPhone battery icon had returned to the normal battery icon indicating it no longer recognised the Mophie as being plugged in.
One thing I did notice last night with my testing is that when I plugged the supplied usb cable into the Mophie with the iPhone installed and then plugged it into the computer iTunes did not recognise that the iPhone was plugged in and therefore did not sync. I was under the impression that syncing is possible with the included cable when the iPhone is in the battery pack. Clearly not in my case! I did try flicking the power switch on the Mophie to see if that had any effect but it made no difference. I could not sync the iPhone while in the Mophie. Wasn't a major issue, I will just need to remove the iPhone before syncing in future.
Hmmz ... having trouble deciding between the Moshi iGlaze case vs the Case-mate barely there case for an iPhone 3GS.
The prices are from Streetwise.
Moshi iGlaze for iPhone 3G/S: http://www.streetwise.com.au/
$44.95 AUD
Case-Mate Barely There for iPhone 3G/S – Metalic Silver: http://www.streetwise.com.au/
$29.95 AUD
Would the expensive case be better quality and the one to go for? Both look almost the same.
Does anyone with a screen protector (such as the Power Support Anti-glare), ALSO have a case (such as the Rebel Scholar), and does the case rub on the protector at all causing damage/bubbles to the protector?
The reviewer here has a screen protector on his phone while he tries out the cases. It's a long comparison vid, but it should help you out. Check out his other reviews – goes on a bit (averages 8 minutes for his videos), but they're well done imo.
Anyone know where in Sydney I can find a Switch Easy Capsule Neo 3G White ?
Not in Sydney but I just bought one from eBay. Took one week to arrive and I am very happy with it.
Sorry about the massive link; I can't work out to insert a hyperlink in this forum...
Cheers mate, how do you like the case ?
I really like it. The protective film on the screen was a bit tricky at first but they provide 2 so you can completely stuff one up getting it right! It also comes with 2 silicon skins (fits underneath the hard case) and a stand that supports the iPhone in landscape position for watching video. I feel much less anxious having it in my handbag (yeah, I'm actually not a "mate" as such...)
I feel much less anxious having it in my handbag (yeah, I'm actually not a "mate" as such...)
It could have been a manbag! lol
yeah, I'm actually not a "mate" as such...)
Sorry about that, we can still be mates right lol
anyways yeh ill look into that, never realy bought anything from overseas, normally just here in AUS from ebay though im sure it wouldnt hurt trying :)
Sorry about that, we can still be mates right lol
Sure we can! (Just don't tell my husband). I have bought a few things from OS through eBay; never had a problem. Of course, I always check the feedback as with any purchase.
Sure we can! (Just don't tell my husband).
(I won't as long as you dont tell my fiancee) :)
Seems like thats the only one on ebay as well most others are the black. Might also have a look at other online stores to see if they are selling them.
Anyone know where in Sydney I can find a Switch Easy Capsule Neo 3G White ?
Try out pccasegear or rushfaster. Only a couple days for delivery.
Seems like thats the only one on ebay as well most others are the black. Might also have a look at other online stores to see if they are selling them.
The one I bought was white, and the one I gave the link for (which is current) is white too.
Rebel Scholar improves on the Incase Slider in every way, including price -
It's basically identical, nice colours. Uncanny thats it's near identical, including the inner strip liners (which apparently caused the marks on a phone using the incase slider!!)
I have no extra marks on mine bar the gouges caused as a result of my accident (see previous post).....The slider is a good case, no buffing, no rubbing here!!
If the rebel came in at a better price and was available locally I'd of purchased it, where's it available from?
Try out pccasegear or rushfaster
Yeh rush faster seem good though they want $59.95 thats with postage.
Pccasegear seems like they only stock the black.
I reckon you need to get on line to find one.
I don't like rubber or silicone ones as they grip too much in my pocket, so I got a carbon fibre on. Might look like a tosser, but that's how it goes.
has anyone bought from these guys before ?
http://www.playboxzone.com.a
Excuse me for jumping in but I have a carbon fibre case which I ordered from monocarbone and love it the fit is excellent. Highly recommended if you like the high tech carbon fibre look
Mine cost about $72 delivered but the cost varies depending on exchange rate.
Although this guy reckons he can get them a lot cheaper so it might be worth sending him a PM.
See these posts.
G'day yeah i love my monecarbon!!!
i was thinking of importing them but just didnt have the time and wasnt sure of the client base but im more then happy that i got one :D
makes the white iphone the clear choice to get :D looks really neat with a white iphone
makes the white iphone the clear choice to get :D looks really neat with a white iphone
Can you post a pic as I would be interested in seeing how it looks. I have a black iPhone and purchased the midnight black one.
I don't know how true this is, but I got directed to this warning video showing carbon fibre interfering with the iphones reception... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC78nNSVb7A
Might want to cover yourself with the retailers selling them before buying...
Well, I've had my Incase Slider for about a month now. It's strong, aesthetically pleasing, and protects the phone well. Thumbs up.
I'd probably get the slider as well, since the Rebel Scolar is hard to come by in Aus, though I might still be cheaper if you import one, so long as you don't mind not seeing it in the flesh before buying it.
The thing is, i'm a techie, so i'll need a bit of protection & a belt clip as that's how I like to carry these things + my pockets are already full of other stuff (including my work mobile), so i'm thinking of getting the Otterbox Defender before I purchase the iphone.
After doing a bit of research, I decided on the following for my new iPhone:
SwitchEasy Rebel Serpent
http://www.switcheasy.com/pr
SwitchEasy Vision Clip 2
http://www.switcheasy.com/p
Zagg Invisible Shield
http://www.invisibleshield.c
My iPhone will certainly be protected, not looking forward to getting the Zagg on, sounds like its quite difficult.
Bought items off distributors, vision clip off ebay. Not cheap but I reckon I better protect the investment!
Anyone else got these, from what I could tell they are good quality products.
After doing a bit of research, I decided on the following for my new iPhone:
I'd love to know how that belt clip works with the Serpent. They should be easier to come by in Aus I imagine, compared to the Otterbox Defender anyway.
Zagg Invisible Shield
Just want to know, what made you opt for the Zagg over the Power Support Anti-glare screen http://store.apple.com/au/product/TS504LL/A which seems to be the user favourite?

This is fantastic case. I use one myself. The only thing is that somehow, the black is a bit of a lint catcher (as compared to the Rebel Serpent Artic that I also have) so you might need to take it out and clean it very week if you're particular like me. :P
I'd probably get the slider as well, since the Rebel Scolar is hard to come by in Aus, though I might still be cheaper if you import one, so long as you don't mind not seeing it in the flesh before buying it.
i just ordered a rebel scholar, can't wait!

sure thing, it should be here in 5 days or so ill keep you posted :)
I'm buying the Power Support Anti Glare and the Incase Slider (White).
Watched hours of reviews, and Incase looks the most sleek and aesthetically pleasing out of all the cases I have seen. Also, the Anti Glare shield adds a silky smooth matte finish to your iPhone's screen, stopping fingerprints and diffusing light refractions.
Together, I think they look great, and don't lessen the iPhone's attractiveness at all.

I'm buying the Power Support Anti Glare and the Incase Slider (White).
Yeah that's the other combo i'm considering, though, if I went that way, i'd need a leather belt holster for protection.
The Otterbox Defender is an all-in-one solution, but it's bulkiness has me worried...
I'm buying the Power Support Anti Glare and the Incase Slider (White).
i actually am using that combo at the moment, and yes it looks great! Only thing for me was the case heats up really easily imo
the griffin reveal
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/reveal
it only just came out and dont think it has hit Australian stores yet, but when it does im certainly getting it!
The vision clip should work fine with the serpent.
I decided on the invisible shield after watching about 4 or 5 you tube reviews and reading the forums – seems like that stuff although hard to apply is rock solid. With the vision clip, that will provide the protection for the front.
In reference to the serpent collecting lint, well where I am from its more likley to get red dirt, will be a good test for it. Black would definitely show it up more than white I would imagine.
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/reveal
That looks good. Nice & sleek. Together with the Power Support Anti-glare shield & a leather case, I might have another combo to think about.
So many choices, but not one clear winner for my needs.
Let us know how that goes, pies24?
My case of choice:
http://www.goincase.com/products/detail/CL59161
I'm sure the hard ones will protect the phone but I feel more comfortable having a silicone case. Now I just need to get a screen protector.
I was just having a look at that incase website & found the most glorious looking cases.. http://www.goincase.com/bambooslider/
I can't wait to see these things.
So would you recommend people go for the smoother designed "Capsual Rebel" to avoid the constant cleaning?... http://www.switcheasy.com/pro
Well, from my personal experience, the black Rebel seem to gather a lot more lint after a few days as compared to when I use the Rebel Artic (which has the transparent / white siicon material)
However, if you have a black iphone like i do, with the Rebel Artic, the back may have blotches. My mate has a white iphone and when he used my Rebel Artic, the "blotches" didn't show as much.
Hope that helps.
I just picked up a switch easy rebel in the blue colour and it was very easy to install and very stylish. I am quite happy with it – I bought it from an Optus show for $40.
My Incase Slider's rubber strips keep leaving marks on the back of my Iphone, which take a bit of rubbing to remove. I can see it leaving permanent marks after a while.
I'm going to try Bestskinsever for the back & SGP Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint on the screen.

They don't stock Rebel Scholar cases.
Does anyone have any proven & recommended suggestions for a belt clip/holster that would be a good match for the Incase slider or even the Rebel Scholar?
got the moshi case
http://rushfaster.com.au
really nice and slim and the texture makes it easy to hold – it's a overpriced in australia though (cheaper overseas and via ebay) but easily the best case i've seen in terms of actual appearance (doesn't really affect the look of the phone at all.)
got the moshi case
Nice & thin. Love the red/rust colour. Good for those who are after a bit of scratch protection, but the exposed chrome on the top & bottom might be something to look out for + it doesn't look like a lay on table design?
Well, with so many cases to choose from, i've decided to take the less risky approach & go for the cheapest case with the most positive reviews....the Rebel Scholar.
Probem is, I don't think I can buy from their site directly. Where have people been buying these cases from?
http://rushfaster.com.au/pro
Just got and installed my SwitchEasy CapsuleRebel 3G iPhone Case – Tiger from rushfaster and can recommend this case highly for what it does.
I had an anti glare screen protector on from beforehand and had no need to replace with the protector that came with the case and the case fitted perfectly.
If you want a case that looks & feels good, isn't bulky and offers ample protection then I highly recommend the switch easy capsule rebel tiger.
I'll post up pics later.

Might want to cover yourself with the retailers selling them before buying...
I made the video (along with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNsTUPPIFfo).
I don't know if it's the carbon fibre or the coating but the case certainly cuts down NextG and wireless signal strength. I've yet to see anyone who also has a carbon fibre case post results when in non-optimal signal areas, or how their wireless signal strength is affected.
I've moved back to a Power Support Air Jacket as the wireless signal strength at home with the carbon fibre case on caused it to keep falling back to NextG. Now I get good signal in all areas of the apartment.
really nice and slim and the texture makes it easy to hold – it's a overpriced in australia though (cheaper overseas and via ebay) but easily the best case
I bought a black Moshi iGlaze case last week from Streetwise for $45. It looks fantastic on my iPhone 3GS. I will be buying another one soon for my iPhone 3G to replace the ZAGG invisibleSHIELD which is starting to peel off on the sides. I might get it from e-Bay this time for ~ $25 (inc S & H costs).
Well, with so many cases to choose from, i've decided to take the less risky approach & go for the cheapest case with the most positive reviews....the Rebel Scholar.
Probem is, I don't think I can buy from their site directly. Where have people been buying these cases from?
ive ordered mine directly from their site, its arriving on thursday via fedex :)

Nice. Let us know how you go. Which case btw?
My lappy had an old version of IE on it, so the checkout page didn't pop up when I went to purchase. Main PC with FF works, so when i'm ready I can grab it from there as you have.
about the same price as another scholar
It still works out cheaper than getting an Incase slider locally.

I bought a hard back cover for my iphone, and thought it was great, when i took it off i noticed that in all four corners it has been indented. Was not happy, now its a naked iphone till my silicone case comes, even tho i do not like the look of them!
$17 USD to aus LOL
about the same price as another scholar
If you buy 2, the postage stays at $17. Not sure about more than 2 as I haven't tried it. Buy a spare or buy one for a friend and halve your postage. :-)
i went and had a look at the rebel cases at optus... they only sell the old ones... does anyone know where they sell the Rebel SERPENTS in Sydney?
Okay I think *everybody* should go buy this case. Now.
http://www.case-mate.com/iPh
They need to be in stores, it's around $35USD in shipping for what would cost an American $0.99 shipped.
Novelty present idea :D

Some great looking cases here, have ordered one but yet to receive it.
finally got my rebel scholar today after missing the fedex van!
pics are here: http://img268.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=img0005hr.jpg
currently using it with the power support antiglare screen protector.
awesome combo!
Has anyone used the Speck Candyshell cases? I saw a few reviews on youtube, and i like that more than the switch easy ones, as they are simpler.
Does anyone know where i could get that in Sydney?? (edit.. they sell it a david jones in sydney).
But i will want to know if anyone has used it on here thanks.
Anybody know of a charging dock suitable for charging while rebel scholar or incase slider fitted?
Aren't those cases just designed to have the bottom section of the case removed when you put the phone in a dock?
Every pic I have seen of those sort of cases just has the bottom removed and the phone in the dock.

Yeah that's what I thought. Pretty sure you can't just plug them into a charger with the whole case on. I could be wrong though...have a look around for different iphone chargers to see if one accommodates these cases.
the bottom on the incase slider and the rebel scholar is removable for charging on the standard iphone dock, thats what i do right now :)
I'm interested in a leather case with a battery (for charging the iPhone, not running off it).
Any recommendations?
thanks.
For the first time in more than a month, I've tried removing my Incase Slider using my iPhone caseless.
It looks and feels sooooooo much better without a case. I think my iPhone might be going naked again!
I'm past the initial 'obsessive' stage of ownership, so I no longer care about scratches much.
I've just ordered my second Piel Frama from Spain. I've had the other one for two years and got it for the 1st generation iPhone. I'm upgrading when I get a 3GS.
Its a wallet that holds the iPhone, cash and credit cards etc.
People always comment that it is a practical idea. Its not the usual thing but is worth looking at if you don't want to carry a wallet and iPhone.
The Piel people are good to deal with and maybe you can get the products in Australia somewhere.

This looks promising:

I bought the iPocketWallet for just this reason and couldn't be happier .... http://www.ipocketwallet.com/
You just need to get used to carrying the wallet in your front pocket rather than back pocket :)
(and I have an OtterBox for when I go camping too)

Although the slider case can have its bottom half easily removed for charging, doing it 2 times a day to charge in a dock is not ideal for me..........that said I have since learned, many changing docks/clocks, can charge the phone while in the case by not using the specific apple mold in the dock.

If you could pass on the names of these it would be fantastic. Thankyou.
Under the advice of many users on this forum, I went and bought a iSkin Solo and found that the mute button on the side and the hole for it were not aligned properly. Very good case other than that small discrepency.
I then went and bought a Capsule Neo from Switcheasy. All the holes line up perfectly and i feel the phone is well protected. I like the look of this case and the functuality that it gives you is superb.
I think we are on a different pages, I am referring to charging the phone in a dock whilst not removing any portion of the case, and have learned, this can be done by not using specific molds normally supplied with the dock.
Re your question:
Rebel scholar, and incase slider are meduim protection cases that 1. fits the iphone perfectly, 2. able to be charged in many universal docks without removing any portion of the case.(although bottom ¼ can be removed easily)
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/reveal
I just received the griffin reveal off ebay as it is not out in oz yet, and it is exactly what ive been looking for. Has a rubberish type material around the sides so it can absorb some shock if its dropped, hardly adds any bulk and shows off the back of my iphone. i love it!
i really recommend this case. Theres heaps of reviews on youtube. Check em out!
Yeah, interesteed in the Reveal but not sure about the hard plastic back against the back of the phone like that... possibly some potential for scratching if dirt gets in via the connector port or camera window. I'll still order one when they are local though. ;-)
In the meantime I've just ordered a couple of the Scholars to give them a go. They cartainly seem on the ball.
As far as silicon cases go, i've been impressed with the el-cheapo iLuv case... for $15 it seems to do the job.
You're right about dirt getting trapped in there, I have a skin on the back of the iPhone so I've never worried about any potential damage.
It looks fantastic though if you're after the naked look but with some form of protection from scratches and minor bumps.
Sheck Candy Shell anyone? anyone have experience in those?
You said you've *watched the Youtube reviews, what more do you need to know?

Well its always good to hear different opinions from different sources.

We are on the same page, I am after a dock that I don't have to remove iPhone from case to charge. I have googled etc but am unsure about ones that actually work.

The Rebel cases from Rushfaster come with a universal dock adaptor. Works a treat:

That looks really nice. This will save me from getting a separate wallet as i need a new one. Is this possible to buy locally or really have to order from US?
Is this possible to buy locally or really have to order from US?
Pretty sure only from the site BUT I have a vague recollection there was one or two on eBay last June (when I was getting mine) ... I ordered from the site direct – the shipping cost was included in the price (which I think was less than the current price).
Posted fairly quickly (ie few days afer order).
Why not email him and ask the question.
Anyone with the Rebel Scholar/ in-the-know, is the inside of the case on the velvet feel ones made of the same material? Wonder if that would avoid the effect of dust particles grating the inside of the phone like silicone or hard cases?
It's a wonder more case makers arn't picking up the idea, seems like the best of both worlds; no fingerprints (unlike some plastic or other hard cases might show), while still being easy to slide out of your pocket, and not pick up lint (unlike some silicone cases...)
Bah...just noticed that removing my Incase Slider put a long vertical scratch down the back of my iPhone. It also appears to have created many small scratches on the bezel.
No more cases for me!

That's what I like about the SwitchEasy Capsule Neo; the thin silicon cover that fits underneath the hard cover. Best of both worlds!

Amazing that.
My $5.02 USD Spider-Foot.com iPhone case is still in perfect condition and my iPhone inside the case is still in pristine condition. Not a mark on it from the case at all.
So glad I spent up big on my case! LOL!

agree, no scratches from the case itself on / off – which was a bug bear with my last non-iphone and case... that's what sold me on the switcheasy range...
sorry to hear about your scratch james – you did all the right things...
Just checked my fedex tracker, my Rebel Scholar case gets delivered today... WOOOOOOOT!!!!
What number did you use to track it down???
nyone with the Rebel Scholar/ in-the-know, is the inside of the case on the velvet feel ones made of the same material?
No, the insides plastic with the rubber rails.
I just received my Scholar today, and for anyone thinking of buying one, DO IT!!!

Ouch, sorry to hear about that.
I think one thing people overlook is that case or not you still need to keep it clean. Dirt will always get in and potentially work its way between the phone and any points where the case in contact with the phone.

Yeah, & I guess carrying it in your pocket increases the chances of this happening. All the more reason to look for a belt-clip/leather holster I think.
No, the insides plastic with the rubber rails.
Ahh, ok...
Looking into it, this guy seems to think that the rubber doesn't come down far enough to save from scratches? Can anyone confirm?
Damn, I spent over an hour today walking around the different places that sell phone cases but couldn't decide on one so my new iPhone remains naked :)
But I'm thinking one of those flip leather cases might be the most practical.
Just used the fedex tracker number that rebel scholar sent with the payment email from paypal
All I have is the transaction ID, which isn't recognised by the Fedex tracker.

Anyone suggest a case that does well against dust?
Otterbox Defender
http://www.otterbox.com/ipho
I have one for when I go camping and such – very good, strong, robust, secure and dust resistant
They also have a new case out the Commuter but I haven't seen any reviews on it yet
http://www.otterbox.com/i
Where can I find one of these don't mind if its a US site SwitchEasy Capsule Neo. I had the same problem when I took the hard back case off I was left with indents and scratches. Was not impressed. At the moment I am using a silicone case one that just covers the back. Fingers crossed nothing more happens. Has anyone tried black nail polish on chips and scratches?
