Hey.
I need to get a molex to floppy power connector. If you must know why, it is because me asus xonar DX isnt working with both floppy power cables for some reason, so the only other thing i can do is get a cable converter. If that doesnt work, the card is faulty :(
Where can i pick up one of these cables?
I live in melbourne, eastern suburbs. Closest place to my house would be good.
Thanks
Have you tried it with another power supply?
i cant. My other computers have a floppy connector but dont have a pcie slot :(
I cant pull the psu out of their computer anyway, and even if i did they wouldnt be able to run my pc. They are like 300w generic
ok. Is it possible to test the sound card in another computer?
Read his post he already said that wasn't an option.
Try Jaycar/Dicksmith.
ok. Is it possible to test the sound card in another computer?
no, as i said above, no pcie slot.
I'll also add, when i go to 'device manager', under 'sound, video and game controllers' it has 'asus Xonar DX Audio Device' and it looks normal. No exclamation mark or anything showing a problem.
If i go to properties it says "device working properly'.
The only things that have an error in device manager is:
'Realtek High Definition Audio' (thats because i uninstalled the onboard audio)
'SM Bus Controller' (says drivers not installed).
I doubt this is a software thing, i am thinking more hardware, but you people are the experts
My other computers have a floppy connector but dont have a pcie slot :
you do know that power doesnt have to come from the same PSU
leave the xonar in your current computer and take your other older PC and place it next to it
insert just the floppy power cable(from the old PC) into the xonar and leave it booted
so the xonar is powered from the old PC while installed in your current PC
ok, for some reason it picks up the sound now!
If i right click on the sound icon in the toolbar and click 'adjust audio properties' The asus Xonar DX is listed (wasnt at the start) and sound works in itunes.
The thing is, i still cant access Xonar Audio Centre because it says there is no power.
Does the Xonar work at all without power? If not, that means it is the programs fault screwing up, and the card actually has power.
If the card does work without power, then it could still be the card or psu screwing up.
Any ideas how to fix this?
UPDATE: ok i have worked out that only the green line out port is working. Even if i plug the other black and brown cables in it doesnt make a difference.
I guess i need to use the Asus control center program to set it to 5.1, but i cant because it says i need power!
unplug the power for the soundcard, bootup and see if it still works at all
ok i tried that and the sound DOES work, but only 2.1, and it was crackly when turning off :\
This means that the card ISNT getting power... so its either the psu or card..
Any ideas?
you got more then 1 PSU right? swap them around to see if its the PSU that is acting up
yes, but the other one wont power my computer.
I tried the card in the other pcie slot just then, still the same problem.
I wouldnt keep it in this slot because it it right againt the 8800gt and blocks ¾ of the fan.
I feel like chucking this thing in the bin. Its rediculous!
The floppy connection on this card is soo crap its not funny. No matter how much tape i put on it, the thing wont stay in the connector on the card. It always slips a little bit.
Any ideas how i can keep it connected?? this maybe the problem, but doubt it because i held it in tight once and it still didnt work
i already said wot i did in ur other thread why dont u do that?
im not sure what u ment by that. Could u please explain what you did? Sounds like u had the same problem which is kind of a relief.
Did you get the message saying no power?
I just tried plugging my sisters comp into the power next to mine, and put her floppy power connector into the card. It still gave the error, even after a restart with me holding the cable in place.
Her floppy power cable was much better though, stayed in heaps better
You may be able to use another molex plug. When I got my 6600GT there was a molex splitter/extender in the box . I now have the extender on iHDD and the other on the 6600GT .
actually boofhead i remember now i did that other thing first but then it became clear the real problem was actually very simple!!!
the white plastic surround of xonar connector slides freely and it had slid forward not leaving enough metal to connect ur cable so it was loose. just slide the plastic all the way back and now ur cable will fit tight
i think i know what u mean with the white connector, but i cant push it back in.
You sure that will fix it..?
You mean push it towards the card or away?
just make sure plastic is same position as this

yes it slides freely
OMG OMG OMG man
YOU
F*&%ING

IT WORKED!!! you are a champ man.
If you werent a guy i would kiss you. lol.
I have spent HOURS trying to figure this out, almost throwing the thing in the bin, BUT NOW IT WORKS!!!
what a stupid stupid stupid design fault from asus... how was i supposed to know about that clip??
I havent heard about this anywhere on the internet, so maybe only a few have this problem?
Anyway, that was the problem. Your a champ.
EDIT: By the way, it fits very tightly now, almost too tight :D
Thanks again!
