Hi. Just bought the 8800GT from Centrecom and went to Asus's Driver page and found some Bios/Firmware update for the 8800GT. Is it worthwhile doing this? i have never flashed a GPU before and Asus says that it will offer Performance increases. Thoughts? |

Use to flash my 8800GTX's, just be careful and you may need another card (to view your monitor so you can reflash) if things go wrong. My very first flashes were on 8800GTX's in SLI :P |

ok.. sounds like a be cautious if you don't know what you're doing but otherwise go ahead. I've flashed phones so i guess by the sound of it, its just as easy as that. |

Usually they have just played with the profiles a bit I believe ie maybe upped the RAM speed etc or adjusted fan speeds. Save your present BIOS, benchmark, flash and check new benchmark :P |

But what i was wondering was does it give you any performance boost? I'd think that it'd be more likely to fix a bug rather than give a performance boost. I wouldn't even consider it as an option until I had problems with the card that the update addressed. |

hmm.. I have a Alpha Dog 8800GT xxx edition.... When I plug it in the screen goes into power saving mode, Ive flashed the mobo but not the grphx card. Got the grphx card good month ago or so. Never got to use the 8800GT :( and currently im using 8600GT 256mb The mobo is P5VD2-x Ive asked before what the issue could be, Ive been told its the mobo that cant handle the grphx for some reason. Only one person suggested to flash the grphx card. What should I do? buy a new mobo or flash the grphx card? (note ive never flashed a grphx card) EDIT: If any of you guys could help me get the thing working on my pc I would be like the most happiest person on the planet :) |

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. +1. Ok, i guess i won't. Just saw the update and started wondering whether it would be a good idea. EDIT: Was updating the Asus NVidia Driver when i noticed the Bios update. Now when i try and install the update it says it can't find a compatible Nvidia Driver on the System. Any ideas? |

Try the drivers off Nvidia's website. If i try the drivers off Nvidia's website, then Smart Doctor will stop working as it needs the Asus VGA Driver. |

If you call trolling helping Sorry to get in the middle, but me and spazza were once friends and he knows exactly where I got my grphx card from. EDIT: Therefore he suggested I take it back to PCCG and get it somehow fixed or replaced. I should be doing that tomorrow. |

OC it instead. k. Guess so, i was just looking at the Reva manager, and it looks good, but i don't want the hugely advanced-oc program, just a set and forget program. I'll just use Smart Doctor which the hyper drive auto-oc, plus its a little bit easier to navigate around quickly. |

but me and spazza were once friends I can see how you used to be friends, such a troll. To answer the question, if you plan on flashing your video card, make sure you have a spare video card there in case things go wrong, preferably a PCI video card. There isn't any point to flashing unless there is a specific fix you are looking for, if it works fine, leave it as is. If you do however, have water cooling, you can use the BIOS flashing to volt mod it to 1.1v for higher overclocking. |
