So I get this email from Dodo this afternoon saying my CC will be debited about $160. Strange I thought since im on a $34.99 3000MB wireless broadband contract. So I went into the statistics section of the Wireless Broadband connection software that Dodo supplied me. My usage was about 550MB for the month according to that and only 1000MB for the past 2 months since I joined them. So I get on the phone to the billing call centre and am told that I have used almost 4000MB. This came as quite a shock as I regularly monitor my downloads in this usage software. I tried to find out why there would be such a discrepency and was told I would have to speak to someone from tech. I was transferred and explained the problem again. The guy was clueless and said he would consult with someone else and call me back in three or four minutes. This was about 45 minutes ago now. I am about to call back to speak to them again. Anyone else come across something like this discrepency with usage?

if your wireless is unsecured other people can steal your net. This happened to a friend he found out someone near him was using his unsecured wireless

Well he wasn't able to help me so I ended up having to send an email with a screenshot of my problem and I will call another number tomorrow during work hours apparently. I can't believe this nonsense.

I have recently had the same problem, although my usage is out by around 9 gig. As far as I am aware my connection is secure. The modem connects directly into my computer and there is no wireless net work. Is there anything else i can do to make sure it is secure.

So far I have received no satisfactory explanation from Dodo. Apart from that the connection softwares download meter is a "guide" only. Would have been nice to have been told this earlier and with a difference of over 9 gig its not much of a guide.

At least I now know that I am not alone in this problem. Will keep you posted on any developments

From all of the customer service issues I've been reading, I'd give Dodo the bird and go with someone else.

Customer service isn't cheap.

Hey,
My girlfriend seems to be having a similar problem.
She was with Virgin previously (but thats a whole nother set of dramas) and we changed to Dodo as she also had her phone there and it kind of made sense.
But the amount of data being used seems out of wack.
She previously was lucky to exceed 300-400mb for the month but since being with Dodo she has exceeded the data usage limit each month in about 2 weeks (she is currently on the 3000mb plan so 1500 peak time data).
I believe the router setup is fine as it is using WEP and I haven't been able to find any sign of any one else using it.
Is there a third party application for monitoring traffic?
Obviously this appears to be a pretty common issue?

Yes and it works well for your computer. However, if are using more than one computer or someone is tapping into your wireless then it will not be able to display that usage. Just google netmeter freeware.

Sorry I didn't reply. If you have this problem you need to call dodo complaints and register a complaint. They will not help you, maybe offer a small refund if you are lucky but its a bunch of bs. Tell them you are going to call the telecommunications industry ombudsman. After you finish with dodo complaints, call the TIO and lodge your complaint there. They will give you a number of someone higher in the food chain at dodo. Eventually they can refund your money. Do not give up. That is what they are hoping you will do. Keep fighting.

Mkas,
thanks for that, I actually found one that works from the modem somehow but seem to have lost the url doh!
Using a pc based one is no good as we use 3 different lap tops there but also use the same laptops on different networks at work.
Shootdodo,
yeah well there hasn't been a working phone line for a month and we constantly get told they will get a "level 3 service technicioan" to call back so I think I have reasonable grounds for complaint on both contracts.
See what happens. I will probably just cop it to get out and then sign up with TPG...
