I would buy the diamond smaller and has better features. However, their was some issues with slow loading menus because the touch screen application was using all the resources and I have not read if that has been resolved |

seriously...if the iphone 2.0 is only 199US.....u can't even get a normal GPS for that price....... the only thing that will turn me off from the iphone will be the 3rd party software because currently i am using quite a few of them on my WM mobile I really need to see how much it is going to cost before deciding |

i had a play with the diamond the other day. was a large user of WM6, and I must say diamond felt a little sluggish. plus it had an extremely annoying back-cover, cut up like a 'diamond', its crap though – and you'll know what I mean when you get it. mind you, this isn't much worse than the current iPhone, that will 'rock' when you place it on the table :( am an apple fan, and I will buy the iPhone. if you want features, get the diamond. reason for me wanting the iphone over a WM device. I am so sick of windows, would prefer not to use it – ever. |

I would pick the Diamond however with reports of the slowness of the interface and touch flow with times of 2+ second response times when using it does not sound appealing. Hopefully if they address the speed of the interface I would consider purchasing one. |

The iPhone does not cost US$199 on its own. That's just the upfront free, there still is a contract. It will be sold unlocked and on prepay. The price (If you believe Steve Jobs) will be USD199 worldwide. Of course you have to hook up with a telco for access either on prepaid or on some "deal"; up to you. |

Don't buy the 3G iPhone. Wait 6-8 months and I am sure Nokia (Samsung have already caught up with the Omnia) will have a rival with more features and a decent camera. I feel sorry for the current iPhone owners... they must be spewing they spent $500 plus on eBay for the iPhone 1.0 and unlocked it and voided their warranty. Should have stayed with a REAL phone company guys – ie: Nokia! |

I wonder how many people out there are going to be grabbing a iPhone 3G when it does release... can see it now, people walking around with them like iPods. |

Have a look at the 'Fring' application. While it doesn't list Windows Mobile 6.1 as officially supported, I'm guessing it won't take long to get added. I already use Fring to make VOIP calls over WiFi on my Nokia N80. While it would be possible to use the application across a 3G network, the associated data costs wouldn't make it worthwhile. |

Unlikely he will be able to even get the iPhone 3G so you'll be looking at the old, regular iPhone if he can get one. In which case there is zero doubt you should go for the HTC Diamond. That thing is pure awesome. Absolutely stunning device! Sure, the iPhone may have a pretty slick menu, but so does the Diamond amongst a host of other features. I would probably consider getting the Diamond on a plan in Australia that allows for lots of calls and data. You'll probably get it cheaper that way too. |

It's already been a year since the original iPhone, and while the Diamond come close, none of the other manufacturers have been able to meet or beat the iPhone. Even the Diamond's interface isn't fluid enough (and the screen isn't as finger friendly as it is smaller). The i900 feature wise is better than the iPhone but the UI is highly unlikely to be as slick as the iPhone's. There are still some shortcomings with the iPhone 3G, such as the lack of MMS, no bluetooth file transfer, no video capture, and the 2MP camera with no flash or autofocus, but I'd still go for the iPhone 3G because it is just so sleek. You might regret it when everyone else starts getting their iPhones. |

I must admit, that it is incredibly frustrating when one is inthe market for a new phone in Australia! For example – I was all set to go and become an Applie fanboi – but upon looking at what is lacking in the 3G iphone (eg Full BT utility, no video, etc..) I just cant find myself committing to this device. Hooray for HTC – or so I thought!!! Now I find that despite its feature rich spec list and the great reviews on www.coolsmartphone.com I cannot use the current model on Next -g!!!! It is preferable for me to stick with Telstra for now. So I have to wait for the "not released anywhere" US Touch Diamond model.... ...........sigh...................... |

The people suggesting a Windows Mobile device over an iPhone are clearly illicit drug users and you should ignore their opinions. I have a HTC Tytn II and an iphone. The problem with HTC is they dont utilise the device's complete features . Like others above have posted sometimes I find my device to be sluggish. I did try custom cooked ROMs and they do make a difference, but you do void the warranty by doing that. So I would go for an iphone when they launch here. The eco system around ihpone is coming up very well and soon you will see quite a vast array of apps and services for it. |

Seriously, does anyone see the real point of getting an iPhone? It's not the features, since many other phones can match or better it. It is the applications that are developed for it that are going to be reason to get one. Being a developer myself, I'll be getting one to develop my own apps for it. If you want the Diamond, sure, but I can tell you now that the quality and range of applications for the iPhone will be easily on par with other platforms quickly. Mac developers take pride in creating polished, quality software. Comparing my experiences as both a Windows user and a Mac user, I tend to find that the third-party applications that are by small companies are very well done. I don't see this changing for the iPhone. |

In any event, there will be a handset that works on the NextG band – and it is rumored to be this handset that will be released by Telstra in a few weeks (this is what they are calling the "America's" version because it will also work on AT&T's network in the US). |

I'm a big believer in having the freedom to use my phone (or any of my devices, for that matter) the way I want. I don't believe the iPhone allows me to do that. To purchase the iPhone you must agree to Apple terms and conditions. Something I am not comfortable with because Apple control the licensing and distribution of all iPhone applications unless you jailbreak it – which is certainly not my definition of freedom. I asked about buying the iPhone outright and they wanted to "check my account for eligibility" and make me sign Apple's friggin' T&Cs. Why the hell for? I'm buying the phone outright! I shouldn't need to sign squat! The simple act of purchasing the phone should be enough for that. I've been seriously regarding the HTC Diamond since it's release and I believe it to be the perfect iPhone alternative. Battery life is not an issue since I leave my phone on charge every evening and so the only issues I have with the Diamond is the lack of removable memory and the shape of the back panel – both very minor issues in comparison to the more glaring iPhone issues. |

My phone is pretty bad on batteries also because of the 16 million colour display, I think you have to accept the fact that these phones chew up more power. I swap my battery over with another one that I leave on the charger at home. That way when you get home you just swap it over. The HTC "Touch" Diamond has a removable battery, thats one of many reason I would choose the HTC Touch Diamond. http://www.tracyandmatt.co.u Looks like you can also "upgrade" to a bigger battery with the HTC Touch Diamond. |

I've just got the HTC Touch Diamond, and so far it seems like a slick little piece of equipment. The major reason I purchased it was to load Office programs, which most smartphones can do but the Diamond seemed to have positive reviews. Battery life sucks but considering it has a 528MHz CPU I don't think I can blame it! TouchFLO 3D interface is mostly great, except tends to hang up badly on the music tab. Apparently there is a ROM that improves battery life and reduces sluggishness, does anyone know the version of this ROM? Mine is v1.93.707.1 WWE, dated in August. Apart from these little quirks, it's proving a great little device! |
