Good day guys,

I just wanna share with everyone what i have experienced today when i asked WN about churning away from them to another ISP ( ADSL1 to ADSL2+ provider)

My situation is i have completed my Contract with WN and churning away to TPG adsl2+. I checked with the accounts dept and they told me that its best to do the transfer within this month before the next month else they would still carrying on billing the next month if TPG have not completed the transfer. Also although TPG said 3~5 days to complete the transfer. i would give them a day or two extra to be safe. Since i have finished my contract there is no fee or cancellation fee, only when TPG has sucessfully provisioned my line to adsl2+ codes i would give a ring to WN to tell them to close my account with them.

So far the service with WN been great but i was after adsl2+ plans without signing up phone plans and the quota was a bit more would be good. So i decided to seek somewhere else and that lead me to TPG. But i will recommend WESTNET to anyone if they are not picky on their demands.Fast downloads ( peak or non peak all the time the speed is maxed out) great service desk and not to mention, gives prompt help when needed.

Thus, i will write once again when i cancel from WN and upgrade to TPG. Do look out for it.
Thanks for reading this. ^_^

Due to the present situation i will have to upgrade to TPG next month due to lack of time to get the churn process completed by TPG.

I've also found Westnet great since I joined 9 months ago but the lack of unbundled ADSL2+ has made me look elsewhere for a few months now.

I've also just purchased a new ADSL2+ router which gives me more motivation to move away to ADSL2+ since its now much easier with SST.

I know Westnet will be getting ADSL2+ from iiNet but with no given time frame it would just be easier to move.

TPG is also on top of my list since I do use my 20/40 data easily and the 40/110 TPG plan does look appealing.

We will probably have to sacrifice a few things like reliability, speeds, latency and of course the award winning Westnet call center [which i haven't had the pleasure of using yet :p].

Let us know how you go with the change over when it happens next month.

Thankfully there is no 30 day written notice to leave Westnet which should make the process smoother.

Also Westnet should receive notice that you have moved and cancel your account automatically, but like you said it would be best to give them a courtesy call to confirm this when the changeover happens.

Cheers

Sometimes when you swap between infrastructure the churn reports aren't generated - definitely let WN know when your churn is complete ;-)

I have a sneaking suspicion that unbundled dsl2 is just around the corner for Westnet. I'm holding out.

You're probably right. Anyone wanting to move to iiNet should definitely wait.

But if anyone wants to move to TPG I don't see the point of waiting. I don't think Westnet will have anything close to the 40/110 for $70 that TPG has.

I thought since the takeover that unbundled ADSL2 was planned? Or is that just on the iiNet side of things.

i moved away for other reasons, but bundling was getting on my nerves as well.

Thank you guys for your feedback i think everyone should contribute about leaving westNet and their good or bad reasons. I reckoned westNet made me really comfortable at this point but every one is always looking up for better deals and that gives improvement to the company as well due to the feedback we give to them. Thus, i hope when i do go back the westNet i hope to see better products like better quota as well as no bundling of phone deals...

Anyway overall westnet is a 9/10 from me.

Same issue for me. I've loved my time with Westnet and I've had no issues at all. But I'm beginning to feel the need for ADSL2+ and I don't need a bundled phone. So when I upgrade it won't be with Westnet under the present scheme.

Wow you could do a lot worse than 9/10. I've had a look at Westnet, their price points etc are very competitive and word of mouth has it that they are a very, very good ISP overall.

Sometimes i get the feeling that people expect too much from an ISP. It's an internet service, its not suppose to cook you dinner or anything! ;)

not so sure about that, there is no timeframe at all for when will westnet offer iinet's adsl2+ plans (I asked a couple of time in the "iinet buys WN" thread), so at best I'd guess 6 months, worst couple of years if they keep iinet selling adsl2+ and westnet adsl1.
Short answer, you want unbundled adsl2+ or naked, go tpg/iinet when you want, don't stay back because maybe something might happen one day. If you can live on 1.5 and/or CBF churning, well, stay and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure a REP did say it would be a few months. I don't think it will be longer than 6 months.

But as you say its not exactly hard to move with the beauty of SST now. :)

As for my speed I have no problem with 1.5Mbit. It's the lack of data thats causing me headaches. 20/40 just isn't cutting it anymore.

But looking over at TPG, all those threads about proxy/speed/drop outs is also giving me a headache. haha

Just then I asked a friend on TPG ADSL2+ to run a ping 72.233.5.106 -n 1000 just to check how good the connection is to my server and he returned with 21 dropped packets while I had 0. It does make you think twice.

Quality or Quantity?

Cheers

If you churn from Westnet to iinet would you be charged a churning fee? I asked since they are the "same" company now.

They are still a separate company and will continue to run separately going from what iiNet have said.

$39 isn't much anyway and its far less than what others are charging for a SST.

Yeah $39 isnt much but some ISPs are offering free churn until 30/06/2008.
iiNet doesnt have any contract break costs though so that sort of even things out.

Free churn on ADSL plans only I assume? The only $0 SST ISP I can think of right now is TPG on an 18month contract.

SST transfer fee

Internode $88
aaNet $99
TPG $59 12months, $0 18months
iiNet $39

Do you know if TPG resells some of Optus's ports for DSL2?

When I churned from Optus DSL2+ to Westnet DSL2+ there was only like a few mins downtime as all that was really needed was the codes being re-programmed.

The thing I did notice straight away was that Westnet's network was a million times better then Optus's network for routing and speeds.

No they do not.

If you want to move to TPG you will have to move your phone line back to Telstra and then apply for TPG as a new connection once your line is up and running on Telstra gear.

This is the downside of being on Optus and Iprimus ULL hardware or any other ULL provider.

This is the main reason why I would never move to Westnets ADSL2+ ULL optus ports. It's a pain trying to leave them and very expensive and lets not mention the downtime involved in the whole process.

Cheers

moved to iinet, same price ($80), but I get adsl2+ speed instead of 1.5, and VOIP, but iinet's rates are crap compared to other VOIP providers.
I paid the connection fee so I can leave in 6 months – but iinet just gave us an extra 5 gigs peak (25/40), so I'm not complaining so far.

WN was fine, but I just couldn't be bothered waiting for them to offer adsl2+ without this stupid optus ull thingie. And now iinet has 3FL's mirrors in its free zone anyway :)

I'm guessing Westnets ADSL2+ Powertel plans will be very similar to iiNets. Unless they purposely want to inconvenience people by making them transfer to iiNet and paying the $39 SST churn fee to be on a better plan.

25/40 is great, but I honestly expected a little more from them with these new plans. I expected a quota increase in the off peak period but to my surprise that was left untouched.

probably, but I didn't want to waste 6 months on 1.5 waiting for them :)

As for quota, I was expecting 20/40, as I had on WN, so anything above is a bonus :)

Yeah, It's only $39 to move to iiNet anyway so not a big deal.

Hopefully Westnet is getting close to releasing ADSL2+ and VOIP soon.
