How to install PCLinuxOS on Xubuntu? View full version

Have been playing around with Xubuntu on a spare Compaq laptop
with 20GB HDD & 256MB RAM. Have not been able to get my networked printer to run or an optical USB mouse (Touchpad OK)
Does connect to my local network

Would like to try PCLinuxOS, read detailed guide re install, but that was for a Windows PC, which seemed to indicate you run the Live CD from within Windows?

How can I install PCLinucOS over Xubuntu? Do I simply boot from the Live CD or have to do something else?

Thanks

That should be all that is required , it should just overwrite you xubuntu install...actually from memory pclos use's disk-drake its own partitioner, but just tell it to use your whole disk if you want to replace it.

cheers

WOW! Have installed PCLinuxOS over Xubuntu this afternoon and very impressed with it

Took a bit to get connected to my LAN & get the networked printer running (don't list my new HP, but choosing another model got me up and running) Had the ISO since last year, heaps of updates when I ran synaptic manager!

Now for a Linux newbie using Windows XP, I found PCLinuxOS much nicer, familiar and more intuitive than Xubuntu, closer to my windows experience

Having spent a couple days playing with Xubuntu, some things seemed more familiar anyway, great "how to" videos from the Ubuntu site, even if they are of an older version and different to current Xubuntu, helpful nevertheless!
Could not get my optical mouse or printer working under Xubuntu

So far, very happy with my switch to PCLinuxOS

Welcome to linux...

PCLinuxOS has great hardware support and more things work "out of the box" than with most of the "buntu" variations.
Give Mepis a try too, it's another great system.
