Are we able to get them with Telstra or is it only on contracts? I'm currently on prepaid plus with friends offer and finding im using up all my $40 waaaay before i use up the bonus credit.. So thinking of changing to a cap.. $49 cap should be ok.. But is it available only on contract or can we just post-pay it? or preferably prepay it.

Yeh Telstra scrapped their prepaid cap option, I think cause it had to be done via direct debit people were whinging. The friends offer you are currently on is the closest thing they have on prepaid. Have you looked at changing some of your 'friends' numbers, see if that would help?
If you really want a plain $49 cap with Telstra then unfortunately post-paid is the only option

There is a new Telstra prepaid offer for the end of this month that sort of takes over from the old (rather crappy) prepaid $49 cap.
250 minutes of calls + 250 SMS + $60 standard credit = $60 recharge.
If you can use other Telco's, Vodafone has some of the cheapest high spend prepaid offers.

Well that's good to know. I heard the end of the month, yet Telstra packaging says 13th, and our rep was in the other day putting up all the new POS material with the new offer... despite the fact it can't be selected yet.
Damn CPM people

I am on Vodafone now on a prepaid cap but changing to Optus. The Optus cap provides more value than the vodafone cap at around an extra 10 bucks and only costs 1 dollar more and for $50 you get 100mb of data. It is a better deal I think even if you don't use the mytime to call other optus numbers. If you use mytime then add an extra 50 bucks or so to the included value.
In addition Optus allows you to use the amount you pay eg 30, 50, 100 etc as actual credit for premium content and the like whereas Vodafone does not and only allows you a measly 15 bucks on the $49 cap and none on the $29 cap. Hence why I am switching.

That actually sounds quite good. Unfortunately NT is so behind that we don't even have 3G for optus or vodafone yet. And I'm talking about Darwin city here cos i drive in regularly for work and uni. Apparently 3G for those Telcos are coming in a few months but their coverage isn't expanding so I still don't see a good enough reason to switch over..

any idea how long the charge would last? I would find it very good value if it lasted 3-6 months.

$60 plan sounds quite cheap for Telstra. Any ideas on the call rates?

Yea well you can go on that turbocharge on normal GSM and just very slowly use your 100mb of data lol.
