hey guys i just did a fresh install of vista business n, not much of a choice really, but its what i have and now i have a big amount of audio files. they are all tagged properly with tag&rename
so all teh fields are pretty much filled out eg
artist
trackname
year
genre
track#

btw this was all done on nother vista verssion and now that im with business when i go into the folders of the tracks etc only 1st field is filled out which is the 'name' and 'ratings'
nothing else so all songs are pretty much organised in 1 order a-z or z-a
any ideas on how to enable this or do i have to suffer, plz dont reply by saaying just get another version of vista lol
thx alot

The N version means restricted media capabilities. The N version has no Media Player 11 and related components.

Having said that, it looks like you just need to customise the view in Windows Explorer.

Open explorer Win + E and go to a folder containing your song files

Right click on the folder icon and select "Properties" then select "Customise"

under the section entitled "What kind of folder do you want?" select either "music details" or "music icons"

then click apply

When you enter the folder now and see your music files, and select the "details" view you will see the default music view which has the following columns:

Name - Artists - Album - # - Genre - Rating You can then add or remove columns by right clicking on the column header bar

If none of that functionality is in your Vista, then you really should consider getting a different version without the severely limited media capabilities associated with N versions.

Go and download Media Player 11 from here:
www.microsoft.com/window.../11/default.aspx

As written down the bottom of the page:

Windows Media Player 11 is designed to work with all editions of Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), and can also be used to restore Windows Media Player and related technologies to N and KN editions of Windows Vista.

Curious you'd be installing the "N" version - considering the only market it's ordinarily sold in is the EU.
Mind if I ask what reason you had to install Vista Business N? (Can think of a couple of reasons, one being that this is a machine owned by a company in the EU).

But yeah, the suggestion by Sirikan (installing Windows Media Player 11) should work (be surprised if it doesn't).

I am not 100% certain, but I doubt it. Windows Explorer and MP11 are separate.

It should. That functionality that you are missing will probably be part of the shell extensions Windows Media Player will register when you install it. Can't hurt to try :).
