I am in the market to replace my SonyErricson(SE) K610i.

Does anyone know of a nice phone that is compatible with iSync that is available in Australia? I was hoping to get it on a $30 - $40 plan, so something as expensive as an N95 is not really an option. I have not been happy with the last 2 SE phones, so I would prefer to stick to another brand, probably Nokia, as I have enjoyed the Nokias I have used.

The nokia 6120 works very well but you need a third party isync plugin.

www.apple.com/au/macosx/features/isync

edit: The list might not be complete. however you can get a plugin from nokia for any nokia phone not listed here

check the Nokia iSync page - europe.nokia.com/A4299040

a google search for "Nokia isync" gave me a heap of other results, such as "unofficial" isync plug-ins for Nokia phones.

also (i know you said price is an issue) the iPhone is likely to be released on Voda and Optus networks around June

Doesn't the iPhone use iTunes to sync? even so, it's much of a muchness really as the final result is the same unless the OP has a specific need to use iSync

Yes. No Bluetooth syncing support (the reasoning would be that there's no chance you would sync your music - and to a lesser extent, movies and photos - over Bluetooth).

Thanks for this, might be an option.

By the way, a guy at '3' said to avoid late nokias, as they had a lot of software bugs. Has any body heard this? Sounded a bit like a sales pitch to me. Maybe needed to move some Motorolas or something.

iPhone is an option, as I would like a PDA/Phone type device, and love the idea of the iPod Touch, especially with the SDK out. If I can salary sacrifice it, it would be a goer.

If you're willing to go up to a $49 plan (allphones) for the Nokia N95, I would recommend it. It's a great phone and works seamlessly with iSync and Bluetooth connections.

If you are a Mac fan is it sensible to be looking at a big phone purchase with a lock in contract today? Won't you be kicking yourself when the 3G iPhone launches here very soon?

As mentioned above the Nokia 6120 classic is a good option (as also a good phone). I cannot recall where I got the plug in (a hacked version of another Nokia profile), but it allows good sync with Mac, and I also use the 6120 as a HSDPA Modem (either USB or Bluetooth). Sometimes it does not hang up gracefully from bluetooth and leaves it as 'Disconnecting' until reboot.

I have a Nokia E65. The iSync plugin needs to be downloaded from Nokia and seems to work reasonably well (a few problems with calendar entries, but otherwise OK). The phone is very functional but battery life sucks if you use bluetooth, wifi, 3G etc. I get about 36 hours on a charge. I'm not the happiest with the user interface, but again, it's very functional.

I think the E65 has just been "retired" so you might pick one up cheaply.

I am too, it is positive to note that there is no negative chatter on the net about it and no big sites have reported any issues.

I've had 3 SE phones, SE 900, P910 and the K610i and have now got an iPhone running on Telstra. Had a few Nokias' too.

I've been using mobiles since they were only available as in-car devices. Then I had those house bricks.

Nothing I've seen compares to the iPhone (and this is the garden variety 16 GB doctored version) !

I wouldn't consider any phone until you put an iPhone in your hands, they're fantastic.

The sync is smooth-as through iTunes. I used iSync on the SE's but this is way superior.

Be patient and wait till the end of June, you won't be disappointed. It is a revolutionary device!

I'll only consider an iPhone when it comes with built in GPS. Even 3G doesn't entice me, because I rarely use the internet on my mobile phone.

Until it has GPS, I'm sticking with my N95.

I found using Google, a plugin for my 6288 that was free and it hasn't failed me yet. Took a little while to find but well worth it

Its all rumor but I am beginning to think that the new iPhone WILL have GPS. With GPS/3G and all the other additions to the 2.0 phone it will be a killer device, why would Apple not include GPS?

Apparently iPhone users use net connectivity and web browsing much more than say Nokia users.
