Hi All,
I am currently on a 12GB shaped Cable plan and need to change to the 25GB plan. My bill cycle begins on the 5th of each month so its been less than 7 days into this bill cycle.
Can you change plans mid month and have the extra quota take place right away?

Apparently you only get extra on a pro rata basis. You've missed the boat now but if you change now it should take effect at around midnight tomorrow night. (That's how it worked for me anyway)

Yes, and as Logicprobe says you get a pro-rata quota for the remaining days of your cycle. BUT the amount you have used up to the change is not counted in any way so you should max out your 12GB first.

Yes you can mate, I believe the additional quota will take effect at midnight though.
The way they work out the pro-rata usage thing is by determining how far you are in your current cycle.
If you are about 7 days into your cycle (22.58% of the way through), then your new effective quota will be 19GB (roughly). You will still need to factor in what you have already used. So with your new quota being set to 19GB, and you've used say 5GB already, that leaves you 14GB of usable remaining.
Hope that makes sense?

So if you had used all 12GB and changed up to the 25GB midway into your billing cycle you'd get no quota on that logic.
Fortunately, you'd get 12.5GB for the second half of the month.

The way I understand it, you would get an additional 6.5GB to play with for the remaining 15 days of the month.
(new quota - old quota) x percentage of month remaining
in this case - (25GB - 12GB) x 0.5

Almost right ... In the example above, you would have the full 19gb to play with, the usage from the plan your on beforehand isn't counted ...
so for example, your on a 12gb plan now, you switch to the 25gb plan 1/4 the way into the month .. you would then have
12GB (old plan) + 19 GB (New Plan) = 31GB for the month ..
do note however, the Bigpond Usage meter, will show how much Data you have used alltogether, but will still just show as out of 25gb, dont trust that bugger of a thing
Edit : This thread may provide some answers

Thanks for that Hstroyer, I had no idea that that's the way it works.
Seems a little open to exploitation if you ask me.
Example: I am on the 12GB liberty plan. New billing month, usage = 0GB
I download 12GB worth of whatever.
I upgrade to 25GB liberty and get almost the full 25GB (first day remember).
I get almost 37GB of usage using this method.
Not that I could be bothered doing this, just pointing out that I guess it is possible.

I prefer to use the word "optimisation".

Your understanding is correct.
