I have an 8mb Exetel ADSL 1 connection. No problems until 7/5/08. Ever since, it has been useless! I know of other people in my town with the same problem, some with Exetel some not (all on 8mb ADSL 1 plans).

Here is a speed test that I actually managed to do:

Test Results from Oz Broadband Speed Test
----------------------------------
Test run on 11/05/2008 @ 05:19 PM

Mirror: Exetel
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 19.78 secs

Your line speed is 29 kbps (0.03 Mbps).
Your download speed is 4 KB/s (0 MB/s).

I tried several other times, but could not even get the page to load.

Just wondering if anybody knows what the go is! (located in Central
West NSW)

Yeah there have been a few problems recently I think. I think the slow speeds have been mainly due to packet loss.

I notice you are using Oz Broadband Speedtest. Have you tried Speedtest.net. I was getting slow tests on Oz Sppeedtest then went to speedtest.net and immediately was getting high speeds. Might be worth a try

EDIT: I am in the NOrthern Tablelands

No speedtest is completely accurate, however I find OzSpeedTest gives a more accurate result when I had a look at my line stats.

Incredibly sluggish for me since last weekend actually, so a little longer my way, I am in Albury and on 8mb.
Something is certainly up if so many people (both here and the Exetel forums) are having issues.

Man didn't anybody read what the download speed was 4kb/s! That is sloooow beyond beleif.

You're worried about only getting 436kb/s. Only 109x faster than my connection was!

But the good news is its all good now!

Only took Telstra a week to fix.........

Heres my latest speed test:

The traffic is fairly light on the Exetel network right now. Much lighter than usual actually.

I'd wait another couple of days to see how it performs under a heavier load before deciding that everything is fine and dandy again.

It has never been that bad before, and I'm led to believe it was a physical problem at our local exchange. All users on 8mb plans had the same fault, regardless of ISP. So I'm not going to bag eXetel.

My reply was to COUGAR-BAIT's post above mine saying that is was:

"REALLY slow tonight, AGAIN .. ffs"

As you would notice if you read the inserted quote.

Don't know about anyone else but it's really starting to shit me. It's the second week of things being incredibly slow, even downloading from rapidshare/ megaupload is now only getting a max of 25 kbs, when it used to be anywhere from 150 kbs to 300 kbs prior to two weekends ago.

Still getting 5kbyte/sec down off of torrents for FOUR WEEKS!!!, 25kbyte/sec up, my network setup has been working fine for months until I stuffin' churned to Exetel..

I've only used 15gb off-peak, 15gb on-peak, and its in the middle of the month!!

Total utter ****, I am sooo ****** off with them right now.

ADSL1 8mbit 32/48 user $85 month, Newcastle, NSW region.

Am 8 weeks off the end of my contract, I got about 2 months good service out of exetel, things started going pear-shaped at about April, what a pile of **** ISP.

Eversince April I've been having to consider 1/2 (40gigs of 80gigs total) of my quota worthless.

Think I'll toughen it out I guess, I /did/ get 30 gigs for $85, thats better than any other deal out there so far, so I can't complain really.

I'm using only the most well-seeded torrents, of course, 200> seeds, yet the torrents never start, check this out:

This is april and may downloads and uploads:
i31.tinypic.com/m8p5hi.jpg

Take special consideration to the two right hand colums of off-peak data.

Notice a pattern of reducing download and upload during the middle of the month?

What they do is, not only do you get the inability to download during the hours of 12 midnight and 2-4 am /each day/, but you also get the inability to /upload/ that data, so your ratio is completely fuxxed even /IF/ I did use private trackers, which I don't, I just use well-seeded torrents.

I agree with freax, I'm on the 48/48 plan and it looks like I will not get to use anywhere near any of my allocation for either the peak or offpeak period.

Also last night at around 2am I was getting verrrry slow HTTP speeds. I thought prioritisation is meant to kick in? Will see how I go for the rest of the month. Might even break contract and churn away if things stay this bad.

i have no problems getting 20GB off usenet during the overnight offpeak and so does my friend ( using torrents off a private tracker ) -- both of use are on 8Mbit exetel accounts.

I totally agree! I'm sure that the speed is limited after 12am. However I get really good speeds from about 7am thru to 12pm (and of course thru the "Peak" time.

P.S. I downloaded a few torrents on Thursday evening at around 650kb/s. Not too bad........at least I feel it's acceptable.

I'm at the Belmont Exchange. "BELT"

Btw, anyone know whats happened in the latest Stargate Atlantis episode?

Oh and I would like to enquire what has happened in the latest ep of Lost?

It appears my carrier pidgeon internet service has had a bit of a mishap, you see, they've gotten too much brains and have decided to fly off with my data. :(

My flapping MONEY TOO!! those god damn birds.
