I intend to upgrade to an Annex-M plan with iiNet, so my trusty Billion 7402VGP will be going to join my old hardware collection in the shed. The question is what will I replace it with?
The logical choice would be a Billion 7404VGP-M, but I have heard of too many problems with the firmware – the Draytek Vigor2700VG is a little more expensive but the Annex M support seems to be “tacked on” via a firmware upgrade. Some other all-in-one units don’t have very good VOIP features.
Any suggestions?
BTW: The 7402VGP (5.07 firmware) has been brilliant, pity it will not support Annex-M

7404VGPM and 7402VGP use the same firmware, so if you like your 7402VGP with 5.07 firmware, you can use 7404VGPM with 5.07 firmware.

7404 and 7402 use same version number firmware but are not compatible with each other. You should only use the firmware designed for you router model.

This might be a dumb question (as a newbe) but why cant the 7402VGP still be used with iiNet. I know its Annex A.
In other words, all because iiNet uses Annex M, is Annex A backward compatable, or/and if its not backward compatable, is there anyway to make a 7402VGP with Annex A work on a Annex M system.

anyway to make a 7402VGP with Annex A work It will work - as an annex A connection - so your upstream connects will be limited to 1 Mbit/sec.

An Annex A Router will work on an Annex M service, however you will not get the benefits of Annex M. Therefore, you can use the 7402VGP. You only need to get another router if you wish to take advantage of Annex M.

OK, so that means if I was to go to a ISP with Annex M support, say like iiNet, I could still use my modem/VOIP gateway that is Annex A, and use all its functions.
IE - I dont really need to buy a new gateway, if i am happy with the upload limit of Annex A.
Correct??????
