Sounds OK to me. Are you are on DSL Direct? Speed depends on many things including quality of the line and distance from the exchange. I am 4 kms away on DSL Direct.

Test Results from Oz Broadband Speed Test
----------------------------------
Test run on 11/05/2008 @ 10:36 AM

Mirror: OptusNet
Data: 9 MB
Test Time: 15.69 secs

Your line speed is 4.82 Mbps (4819 kbps).
Your download speed is 602 KB/s (0.59 MB/s).

Under speedtest.net I get
dowload 5233 kb/s
upload 591 kb/s

The OP never said there was a problem. They wanted to compare speeds.

Be careful with speedtest.net, cnet.com.au and a few others. Depending on how the test is coded and carried out with your firewall enabled you may get an inflated download result.

(This has already been documented in quite a few Web testing sites)

Speedtest with my firewall will run from 12000kbps to 17000kbps

(My Sync speed is 7300kbps so you know something is not right)

With the firewall off I run correctly at around 5800kbps

The Oz Broadband speed test is NOT affected by my firewall.

I am around 1,8km LOS, 3.2km (cable length) from the exchange with Attenuation of 41 db and a Noise Margin of 11.8 db.

Test Results Oz Broadband
Mirror: OptusNet
Data: 3 MB
Test Time: 4.3 secs

Your line speed is 5.74 Mbps (5739 kbps).
Your download speed is 717 KB/s (0.7 MB/s).

Hi Tatts..

With the speed you're getting I reckon you'd be faster than a fair majority of people on ADSL...

Welcome to Whirlpool too by the way,
Anthony.
