Hi,

Did anyone manage to pick-up one of these yesterday? I went to 3 different stores and all were sold out within hours. Apparently it was a different model from that sold recently.

Am interested if anyone has a review ready yet?

Hmmm, is it just me or would other people avoid electronic devices being sold from a place that sells dog food?

LOL
Just paranoid people!

I love the way some people tend to knock any bargains they see.

I have had marvellous bargains from Aldi in the way of electrical goods and have only returned one device due not to it being bad but due to me realising I didn't really require it.

For a couple of years now my Aldi/Tevion 26" WS 100Hz CRT Flat Screen TV has never missed a beat. Their Tevion 6 Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCR is still performing as per the day it was bought over two years ago.

Not to mention the Aldi, heater, vacuum cleaner, coffee/spice grinder, electric blender and maybe some more that I can't recall at the moment.

Suggest if you think Aldi is only good for dog food you hand the shopping over to a responsible adult in future. :)

If only, I can't stand shopping lol I don't know, I can't seem to get myself to buy anything from a discount store that is more than $20. Maybe it's because anything I have bought from them in the past has turned out to be pretty dodgy.

And you have to pay for your trolley's at Aldi :p Yes, I know you get your money back.

For those hunting for one, I've tried Menai and Bankstown today (in Sydney), and they were both sold out.

My gf and I recently started playing "trolley". When driving, when you see a trolley you say trolley and point at it, and you get a point (trolleys on the same block as a supermarket don't count). See how many points you get driving around, then you'll understand why Aldi have their coin deposit on the trolleys. (fyi, Kunnanurra Coles has it, too.)

I also tried North Strathfield and Miranda - all sold out. It wouldn't annoy me so bad if there was a way of getting out of their shop. You either have to queue up for 15 minutes or climb a gate.

LOL FFS Put your brain into gear and politely excuse yourself past the people waiting inline for the checkout and leave. It ain't that hard you know!

If the item is sold out when you eventually turn up then get there early prior to them opening and stand in line with those wanting to get a bargain. :)

They do still sell SD set top boxes.

$65 is an excellent price for a HD box.

I paid $450 for a HD box in 2005.

My current Pioneer has a HD stb built in.

My understanding is that you can hook a HD stb up to a older crt tv etc and you will receive the HD channels (they have different content at times) It just wont be presented in HD.

So youd be doing it for the content ,not for the higher resolution

Good luck with these. I bought 2 SD Tevion box from Aldi 4 months ago and they were shite and buggy. These look to be a bit different.

Yeah, I doubt it's a HD box. The MTV ones I've seen in Coles are SD. Also, since the poster asked why would someone want a SD STB??, I'm not sure he/she knows the difference between SD and HD.

Of course, I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

Is that so?

I'd have thought that if they wanted to watch abc2, sbs news or enjoy crystal clear pictures with no ghosting or other interference, then they most definitely do.

A person I know who works at Coles (actually a 2IC or similar) says that the MTV brand are extremely touch and go and in her own words "most of them come back".

I have never used them so I can't comment, but if someone who works at Coles is telling me they have such a high failure rate I would probably steer clear. Admittedly though, the good thing about Coles/K-Mart is that they are very good with returns, even if something fails 6 months after purchase they are often happy to replace or refund - most big box retailers will tell you to take it to servicing.

hooked it up for my parents yesterday, it's pretty decent for a cheap HD STB.

no probs, nice un-obtrusive display, clear but not too bright. has VGA, DVI, HDMI (via an included adaptor) component and composite (RCA and s-video) video outs. has coax, optical and stereo RCA audio outs.

only negative i've found is that you can't re-order the order of preset channels, or re-assign the channel number for a particular station. eg if you wanted to change sbs from '3' to '28'.
