**Adam Internet has been notified about this forum post**
Hi all,
It has come to my attention through browsing the free content from other ISP's that Adam Internet is slowly, but surely, becoming outdated. (Discluding the FileArena which is pretty decent).
What I am talking about is availability of many more radio stations such as given at Internode: www.internode.on.net/res.../broadband_radio
and maybe a more user friendly customer areas such as with iiNet's new Media Lounge: iinet.net.au/my/media
If anything I am "partitioning" to update the Adam content area, and thought that through getting a list of ideas of what everyone wants to see may give Adam some direction.
Personally, I would love to see unmetered downloads from: Radio Stations: -Happyhardcore.com -Switch FM
Music Stores: -iTunes -Zune
What do you want???

I'm pretty sure that all of internodes local data is also local data for Adam so that radio station etc will be counted as local..

Only the radio stations that internode list in the Channels sponsored by Internode (Publicly available) is available to Adam, the rest are limited to Internode.

I think Itunes is on akamai or something isn't it? So you'd run into the same problem that Internode (or any ISP) would have with trying to include that (Ips are so varies meaning you could download from any country).

What do you want/expect owenob1?!
Your current Adam plan: Home 1500 Average 20 GB Shaped Free Dynamic $49.95 /mo
Equivalent Internode plan: HOME-1500-Power25 25 GB Shaped Free Dynamic $69.95 /mo
Equivalent iiNet plan: Home 4 (bundle) 6 GB 12 GB Shaped Free Dynamic $59.95 /mo
- are the Node radio streams worth $240 a year more to you?
- is the iiNet fancy web page worth $120 more (plus compulsory home phone service) a year?
- As others have said, any of Node's PIPE data is local data for Adam users.
- Adam's CommunityNet - totally unmetered data (brilliant!)
But yes, it would be nice for Adam to have some more local data radio streams.

I extremely happy with what's already offered. Local PIPE data (Internode's games) is where I get all my demos and updates from.
CommunityNet is awesome. I would not go back to Internode ever again, been with them twice before and each time have been burnt, with either them taking services away or hiking up their prices.
I only used the radio stations on Internode because they were there, more of a novelty than anything, don't miss them.
Thank you Adam for providing me with a stable connection (something Internode failed to do and blamed my phone line) and thank you for increasing your usenet from 3gb to 10gb, although I use Astraweb most of the time.

But seriously, For me the main point of difference is price, affordability and continuity of service. I am still yet to get ADSL2 to my house, but it is on its way soon. As a Linux user I am happy to have FileArena with my updates not counted towards my DL limit. In my 'normal' usage, I use around 10% of my local data each month and I am happy to gain this advantage. Some extra radio stations would be an advantage if it does not affect the overall price of the service.

Ok thanks for that link Tex. Hope they add more stuff there to count as local data. Even Whirlpool would be cool to count as Local Data even though it might not add much data by itself. They have the old Big bro site listed on that page and not the new one I noticed. Does the new Big Bro site count as local as well I wonder. Might have to test it out soon.

ABC Playback TV would be great.
However offering that free is very difficault, due to the way teh ABC mirrors. Internode no longer offer ABC data free for that very reason.

Yeah, Akamai is a tricky beast to try and setup as free data, not worth the time and effort looking for a viable way, except having a monkey sit there and pick on each ip each time someone access it :P

radio.3fl.net
something like that.
(used to be local, until Westnet - in their infinite wisdom - started routing it through Ploptus instead of PIPE ...) :|
That said, if it's going to add too much to Adam's costs, then just leave things as they are. I don't really feel like paying a bit more for my broadband just for some radio streams. If I really want to listen to any online radio (usually DI.fm, but these days I also listen to a bit of BBC Radio 4), I'll cop the external data usage on the chin.

Steam already have an Internode mirror for updates which is local data. But you just need to close the updater when it tries to download from another source as you can't specify which mirror to download from. Well there is a workaround to that though.
What I'd like to see as local is youtube lol.

A quick trace to the stream server (streams.radio.3fl.net.au) shows that it's not going through pipe at this time. That's not to say that it won't in the future, but at least not for now.

I thought Internode had the only Steam server in Australia? I know adam customers have peer access to games.internode.on.net, but do we also have access to the steam server?
Cos when I downloaded TF2 though steam the other day my download quota was hit for the entire amount (somewhere between 1GB and 2GB, and with prices starting at 70 dollars per GB on Adam Direct I can see how the trip down to your local EB to buy boxed games could be more appealing for some users).
Anyway, updates for steam games, can you get those from Adams peer file mirrors, or do steam game updates have to be gotten through Steam itself?

Eh? $70 per GB?!?? $70 gets you 40GB external + 40GB local data per month. A typical PC game is 4-8GB.

No. Although all those companies peer with PIPE in SA it doesn't mean the traffic will necessarily go via PIPE. For example Westnet/3FL does not go via PIPE.

We do it, in partnership with Apple.
iiNet customers can download anything from the Australian iTunes store (excluding podcasts) without it coming off their download quota.
iTunes content is served up via Akamai.
Other Akamai content does count towards our customers quota.
