Have had Optus cable for years now, back in the days where there were no usage metres, just the guides where you had to stick to the average downloads? Or however it use to work.

Anyway, I have only ever twice gone over my limit (12gb peak, 24gb offpeak) a couple of times and usually only get upto 50% usage per month.

Just curious do you guys go out and make sure you use up all of your allocation each month? In the last few months I have been thinking, "Stuff it, I pay enough each month for this, may as well use up the mb's", so have been downloading anything and everything, sitting on youtube and listening to online radio.

Friend said to me that in a few month's I am going to run out of stuff to use the d/l's on lol So also wondering how people use up their downloads. Not that I want to know if it's illegal or not, just a general idea on what people use it on.

I am sure I am going to get pointed to other threads, but I couldn't find any after a bit of searching.

And I thought I was the only one thinking that way ! I get so cheesed off if I forget the allocation period end date is coming up and don't use all my "allowance". I also get a really sick thrill out of getting as close as possible to the 100% useage mark at about ten minutes before switch off time!!

What do I use it on ? Anything at all. During the month I keep a running "wish list" of things to download and then in the last day or so. . . . all systems go ! Thought I was the only one that got a perverse pleasure out of this though!

The majority of people on WP will use all their limit you'll find. I use all of mine 20/40 plan and could do with another 500GB or so haha As soon as TPG enables my DSLAM I'm moving to ADSL2+ on the 150GB plan.

There's always something to download, linux isos, freeware, windows updates and porn ofcourse :D

WP users are not typical users. I have never exceeded my limit. I am on a 7GB peak/14 offpeak plan and have never gone over 4 GB.

I always forget then try to use up as much as I can in the last few days... a couple of times I've come close to my cap but I just like the fact its the best value for money cable you can get 20/40...

movies, music, updates, programs, porn, tv shows for friends sometimes... etc. list goes on but yeah, 60gb a month is hard to hit for me...really need to start thinking up more stuff :p

On 12/24 - the 12gig is usually gone before the end of the month purely because there is 4 people using it.

Hardly touch the 24gig.

I use up my 20/40 1500k plan constantly. I'm pretty much capped in 2 weeks. I've also got Optus to slow my connection down to 1000k to help me stop my downloads. It doesn't work! I need more download quota with slower speeds lol. Damn premium rapidshare account...

I've just upgraded from the 12/24 plan to the 20/40 after going over the limit way too soon each month for the last 6 months or so. I'm keeping an eye on the usage meter (I've said it before and will again - STILL don't trust it!) and it looks like the same thing will happen even on the new plan. I'm with Davo - if only we had ADSL2 now - I need all the GBs I can get! ;-)

I'm on this plan and I use every megabyte! Same as everybody else, I pay for it, so I use it. I also keep a wish list and burn it up at the end of the billing period.

Only been capped once and that was two hours before a new billing cycle.

I think the logic is if you don't reach you quota and you hardly use jack all, then you might as well change to a different plan that is better value...

And yes, i do use my 20/40 gig.

I think that's enough for me. Is not, I will leech stuff off my friends.

12/24 here, and it gets used 100% (and then some) every single month. Internet connection is shared between three computers all watching videos, downloading who-knows-what, playing Team Fortress 2 (okay, that's just me)...

My friend is even worse. He's on one of the fusion plans and frequently gets capped less than a week into the billing cycle and proceeds to download another 10GB on top of his quota.

Last month on my 20/40 plan, I used it all up in a week and a half. Yup.. Bad me.. I usually do it all the time, but now I've decided to use all my off peak for torrents, etc and on peak for browsing, updates and Doctor Who.. ^_^

Whirlpool has more power users than average users. I am on the 20/40GB and we are always over what we are meant to be at. My Little brother likes to listen to "music" with youtube (What a waste of data) I myself use 40-50GB any my older brother gets whats left over (10-15GB).

We always use up the data but try to make it last 2 days before end of month.

My friend is on the 7/14 plan and he hardly goes over 5GB total a month. I am starting to get him to download stuff for me ^^;

I always use most of my 60gig :) I make sure to not blow it all at the start tho by breaking the month up into 10day segments in the first 10days i try to stay under 5-6gig peak and around 10gig off peak.

Then around the 20th i aim for around 12-14gig peak used and 25-30 gig off peak then as the month gets near the end i use all my off peak up. I rarely use all my 20gig peak making sure to not get capped.

But as the Terabytes add up on my NAS I'm finding it harder and harder to use all my limit, just when i think I've run out of stuff to get something new gets released and I've gotta get it :P

I assure you, if you have a girlfriend who endlessly downloads episodes of American Idol, Australian Idol, Big Brother wherever, America's Next Top Model, Australia's Next Top Model, The Biggest Loser, The Gilmore Girls, Ugly Betty, <insert vapid, cretinous Reality TV show of your choice> etc etc etc, you will encounter absolutely no difficulty in using (in my case) the entire 20/40 Gig quota well within the first half of the month and consequently being capped for the (seethingly frustrating) remainder.

If only I liked - or could even momentarily tolerate - any of those shows.

Because ISP's don't buy the bandwidth they supply.

I.e. they would not be able to have everyone on the ISP downloading at whatever speed they have at the same time. They don't have that much bandwidth.

They assume that the users will subsidize each other. If everyone used their bandwidth, Optus would go broke.

I use all my quota too, I was just saying
