Motorola Q9h (NextG) support GPS? View full version

Just wondering:

Any Telstra Q9h users out there that have successfully gotten the GPS working on it?

Apparently only the Q9h version has the GPS hardware on it and that Telstra apparently uses the Q9h AT&T version (rebranded) since they share similar infrastructure and bandwidth.

Anyone got any ideas? I have tried everything from the Docomo cab files (ala Blackjack II) to registry entries to try and get this working, but no luck and just not detecting.. :(

Thanks

I think you mean MoDaCo phone forums Q9H GPS com port hack........

The blackjack II .cab file for GPS is for a different com port and doesnt work on the Q9H.....

You need to go here:

www.modaco.com/content/s...ctivated-updated

Basically the Q9H needs a kickstart application to fire up the GPS...the BJII is the same (I own the BJII)...and GPS works flawlessly. On the Blackjack there is an application pre-installed called GPStest....It never had a shortcut but one was created and posted on Modaco...this gets the GPS fired up.

The Q9H has something similiar and you need to fire up this app first to able to use some other programs....the Q9H com port hack unlocks a different port for GPS (com port 3) as opposed to the Blackjack II's com port 4....software will only work if it's configured to com port three. Things like Google maps and Windows Live work with either the intermediate driver or "set by windows"...they dont need a com port and should work without configuration...you may have to fire up the GPS with some sort of application like GPStest...I am not sure if the Moto Q9H has this application listed in it's registry like it was on the BJII....

You can of course use another program...I used Chartcross GPS initially as GPStest wasnt discovered and set a com port...and then press start. You must stand outside. To be totally honest the phone needs to be Hard reset from the start...install application unlocks....set up the GPS and the program you want to use with it....and then put all your stuff back on. This Guarantees everything is reset...youve already installed a .cab that isnt for your phone and registry entries have been made...you need to make sure the phone is fresh so to speak....

Garmin XT should work very well on your device as it does on the BJII....Getting it is an issue though...the software is around U.S $99.00 but this is only offered to U.S customers...for us it costs more and we cant select the aussie map, it has be purchased seperately....

There's some info over at IPmart forums under the smartphone apps section for Garmin XT for smartphone if your interested in Voice nav for non touchscreen WM6 devices.....Ive posted in that forum a bit.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the answer.. I have tried everything that you have said already last night before I did the post (stayed up til 2AM looking at it).

I finally gave up and contacted the Telstra Rep on this. He has unfortunately confirmed that the Australian Telstra Next-G version of this phone does NOT have GPS internally apparently.

Just asking though - can someone confirm this??

Thanks.

It's sounds like you have been correctly informed. If you have tried everything I would dare say it hasnt got it...you should have been able to get a signal and seen a few satellites if you tried the above posted stuff...Very Unfortunate for you....

I recently acquired a brand new Motorola Q9h from Motorola directly, unbranded, unlocked, so would it have the GPS function?

Only UMTS850 variant has the GPS Chip in the hardware.

The UMTS2100 does not have the GPS Chip on it.

Depending whether you have bought a US version of Q9H or international version of Q9H
