I havnt changed a thing in the camera settings yet out of the blue yesterday i took 2 photos & they are tiny (about 20k) when usually they are about 800k. I cant work out what i did ??

Check your camera settings. Flip open the camera slide then OPTIONS/SETTINGS/IMAGE and configure from there. Sounds like you've dropped the settings for images down to 640 or 320.

Can also be configured by MENU/MEDIA/CAMERA/OPTIONS/SETTINGS /IMAGE just quicker the other way ;)

Is there a way on the 6110 to lock certain apps or messages?
or do you need a third party program?
and if so are there any good free programs that can do this?

Thanks heaps

TomTom hasn't released software that works with an internal GPS yet.. Apparently there was talk of it being available in their next version but we will just have to wait and see..

does anyone use their phone to transfer large data files regularly? bluetooth is hopeless for large transfers, so have been using the usb cable, but even then its very slow, about 10mins for 400 mb. on a usb pen drive it would take about 30-60 seconds. are there any tweaks to get it working more efficiently?

Hi all you Nokia gurus out there. I can't seem to navigate to 'contacts' with the navigator.

This is what I do:

1. Start GPS application

2. On lock-on I click on 'Options'

3. Click on 'Navigate'

4. Select 'Contacts'

5. Select person who has a full address as synched with Outlook

6. Select 'Locate'

7. 'Searching' message appears

8. Navigator Message 'No search results. Please check your search string.'

I haven't been able to find anything on the net apart from someone saying to delete the post codes. I'm running 4.22 version software.

The problem is the way the address is stored in the contact details. The only ones it works for on my phone are the ones where the address is broken down in to different fields (ie, street, suburb etc are all different fields) and where the number in the street field comes after the street name, and you leave out the street type (ie, road, street etc)

ie, you store 21 Jump St as "Jump 21"

Yes, you're right. I must say that this is a strange way doing things particularly if you want to properly synch addresses. I have reformatted the Outlook with a nokia subfolder to store 'street name' / 'number' then synched to phone and it does search through Navigator. The post code entry has no effect on searching as one of the other forum members said that it causes an issue.

Go to www.virginmobile.com.au/vibesetup select your mobile model and Virgin will send you the settings for MMS/WAP/INTERNET separately. You just save the settings to your handset and off you go.

I received my nav on Thursday and I'm pretty happy with the phone, with one exception......

Route 66 have an Australian map from Q2 2007, but the phone is still bundled with the map from Q4 2006. (it looks like an additional 20 megabytes of new data has been added in the newer version) I'm not real happy about having to pay 50 euros to update a brand new phone and will be calling Nokia about it on Monday. IMHO the latest map should be pre-installed or we should get a free download to the latest map available at the time of purchase.

Has anyone else contacted Nokia about this, or have you just handed over the money for the new map?

I thought it was a simple answer as they come part of the firmware, but then I thought about it and realised that the maps are actually installed on the microSD card. So they could fairly easily install the latest maps on the card.

Sounds like laziness to me or just squeezing you for the last extra buck.

Not with Optus so I don't know which button is allocated as OptusZoo but if its the Own Key on the side change it by MENU/SETTINGS/PHONE SETTINGS/GENERAL/MY OWN KEY....

If it's one of the soft keys then MENU/SETTINGS/PHONE SETTINGS/GENERAL/PERSONALISATION/S TANDBY MODE/SHORTCUTS.....

Cell Broadcast is part of the GSM standard but isn't implemented in Australia, except for transmitting Cell ID (eg: nearest tower in use, generally shown as a suburb name).

In Europe it's used more widely, providing local information such as traffic conditions as you move between geographical areas.

Guys I've recently added two things to the 6110 wiki. One is how to safely format the phone to just like you took it out of the box in case of major malfunction and now I have just added how to set-up the speed camera file and add different audio files to your landmarks.
The current instructions that we had were quite confusing so I made it very easy with complete step by step instructions.

PS: If you need the latest speed camera LMX file provide me you're email address via whim. All credit goes to Danialislost for creating the file.

icyphish,
Have a look at the Wiki under the heading:
"How to add audio to landmarks and How to setup the speed camera LMX file created by DanialiSlost. Instructions created by unique7"
which is about 60% down the page. (The Wiki link is at the top of this page.)
When you select "Change Sound Setting?" it will search the memory for all(?) possible files - just select the one you want from there.

To test the alerts, you can either take it for a drive/walk/ride, or you can set up a "Trip" that takes you through a known camera spot. Then Simulate the trip.
To speed up the simulation press UP on the big button and it will increase the speed (I got mine up to 1100 km/h on the freeway).

Also about the file. It also has red light cameras on the same file not just speed cameras. If you get alerted for a red light camera don't worry thats normal. Obviously the file cannot defrenciate from a red light camera to a speed camera so its just common sense to know for yourself ;-)

Red Light Cameras
Dual Red Light Speed Cameras.
Speed cameras
All on the same file. So it would be great if we had a sound file that just said "Camera Ahead" because this would be more universal.

Just a public acknowledgement for unique7. Firstly, thanks for sending through the speed camera file so quickly (turned out to be the one I had but hadn't installed yet).
Secondly, for your great work on the speed camera install update on the wiki. Great resource for everyone.

I've also updated the wiki to reflect Part 5 of this ever growing thread.

Daniel the speed camera guru, or any other coders/programmers out there, is there someone who wants to update the file? I'm in Brisbane and we have a few fixed cams of our own now that I'm sure a few people would like to see included in the file.

edit: yer, just turn it off then back on, worked for me

on another matter, I wouldn't mind using my phone as a modem with my laptop running ubuntu for when i go travelling. Just wondering if anyone knows if they there is a way to use the 6110 in linux and use any of the 3G data on their plan? (I have 1 gig of 3g data per month with virgin)

Daniel the speed camera guru, or any other coders/programmers out there, is there someone who wants to update the file? I'm in Brisbane and we have a few fixed cams of our own now that I'm sure a few people would like to see included in the file.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear that after DanielisLost disappeared, that there were some guys updating with the new Brisbane fixed cameras and sharing them at another link. (With due credit to Daniel) but I can't find that forum post anywhere...... weird.

Yeah I recall reading posts asking for people to send coordinates of the Story Bridge camera and the other 2. Pity WP only has title search function for it's forum. WIll have a trawl if/when I get time and if I find something I'll post the forum link. Would appreciate if anyone else interested in this could look back through the other parts (probably part 4 or part 3 would be good starting points).

Are you talking about the folder on the memory card, or the menu the game appears under in the phones menu system?

For the former, you can choose whether to install to memory or memory card, but other than that you can't customise it, so no choosing install directory.

Once it's installed though, you can move it to another menu easily enough. Select the icon you want to move, click Options and then Move to Folder

Yeah, that's what I did, it's the good thing about the google site search, it shows the whole thread in one page, so I searched through it..... it's got me baffled. But I'll keep hunting...

I upgraded the missus phone to 4.22 the other day and that all worked fine. But now she's having trouble ringing out. It just keeps saying Network Busy. It will take her about 10 mins to finally get a line out. She's with Virgin.

At first I thought it was just a busy network but the other night from home she tried to make a call and it said network busy. I tried from my mobile (old nokia phone on Optus) and that worked fine. Hers still wouldn't work until I rebooted it and then it dialled out first go.

Any ideas? Bluetooth is turned on for the CK-7W carkit in case that makes a diff.

It's not the phone, its the Virgin Network. They're having huge congestion issues on their 3G network which is supposed to be under repair as we speak. There's a couple of threads about it /forum-replies.cfm?t=933946 /forum-replies.cfm?t=963376 /forum-replies.cfm?t=910806 /forum-replies.cfm?t=740665

I had the same issues and found that using an old 2G only phone or locking my 6110 to 2G only allowed me to make calls without a problem. Try that and see how you go. It apparently didn't work for some people so it may be area dependent.

Cheers

Couple of questions about this phone, I'm upgrading from my E65 which currently has TomTom and a bluetooth GPS.

1. How good is the inbuilt navi/gps? Better/worse/the same as what I currently have.

2. No known huge problems with them as such are there?

Yes, but if you put in St, Street, Rd, Road etc. it will not find the address even though you may have the correct type of road. Wierd?

I actually find the route66 software a lot better than the tomtom(i also had tomtom on an e65)you will find the menu system may be a little tricky at first but it actually isnt too bad,you will find that the whole programme runs a lot smoother than tomtom on the e65.
as for known problems,im on my 2nd 6110 in 4 months, the first one died and im still awaiting its return from the techs.

When I call my GF (and when others call her) there is a wind like sound, and we can barely hear her? also happens with head set and such.. any ideas? I'll try take out the battery and see what happens.. but have no other ideas.. doubt it's firware related.. only started the other day.. and I fear giving it back for repairs will take a LONG time (all phones..)

The M575

have you tried playing around with the volume during calls? if you do find a problem with it, try take it to your nearest nokia repair centre rather than your phone store. i was quoted 3 weeks by all phones when mine had problems. i took it to nokia repair centre and got it back in 2 days. :)
oh and if you bought it within 30 days from retail store i think they offer you a swap for another one if there's problems, friend of mine had that done.

Krusty32.

1. Open Nokia Navigator (the GPS software),
2. Select "Options"
3. Scroll down to "Trips" and select it.
4. Select "Plan new route" - Rename trip or just leave it as 'Navigator(01)' and "Save"
5. Select "Departure" - "Set departure" (I did a Free Text search for "mascot" and selected the suburb (NSW).
6. Select "Destination" - "Set destination" (This time I searched for "Ramsgate" and selected the NSW suburb again.
7. Select "Options" and scoll down to select "Simulate route"

It should start straight away. If you want to speed it up a bit you can select 'up' on the centre button ('down' to slow) but if you go too fast the speed camera alert might be 'masked' by the voice directions.
If you select the same route, you will get 3 alerts on General Holmes Drive (about a minute or two after you start the route).

Both Speed Cameras and Red-Light Cameras will give the same warning, and both types are on the route.

in my quest to find a streaming internet radio station application for the 6110 (luckily I have 1gig of 3g data a month), I came across the open s60 internet radio app which looked promising. however it is really old now (last build was november 2006 i think), and lot of radio stations dont really work well on it.

A bit more digging led me to Nokia Internet Radio Beta (europe.nokia.com/A4678057). Looks promising, it comes with a directory listing with a lot of radio stations on the list already and it works quite well. Apparently you can add your own stations at this irbcast.nokia.com but I can not open that page at the moment.

Anyone else know of internet radio streaming apps that work well on the 6110? (I am trying to stream a station which is 48kbps aac+)

edit: the irbcast.nokia.com webpage works if you go from the front page of the noke internet radio site, it uses some redirect page to it. also it looks like to add a station to the registered list, you have to get the owner of the station to register for it. already got in contact with the radio station i would like and they are attempting to register now :)

well my mums phone has been screwing up every few weeks.. it just freezes.. nothing can fix it unless you take out battery! so we took it back to shop and they said it'll take around 5 weeks to 'repair' and they will install new software on it and such! PFFT! so I'm just going to update to latest firmware and pray I guess? If not, direct to Nokia me thinks!

Can the 6110 be used as a data storage device? I'm thinking about buying a larger micro SD card (4 or 8Gb) and using it to store data. That way I can ditch the USB thumbdrive. Does PC Suite need to be installed on the target computer or will it see it as an external hardrive (similar to connecting to a PDA) if connecting thru bluetooth?

No. When you plug the USB cable into the handset it will pop up with a menu and you can select to use it as a data drive only - no need for PCSuite.

If you use Bluetooth it will be painfully slow. I had it hooked up via Bluetooth using the software that came with the Bluetooth jigger I had plugged into my PC without an issue - except the aforementioned speed of course.

Cheers

Hi people.
Have been reading these threads b4 getting a 6110.
Got it, and is the best phone i've had.
I ended up buying the map update(2007 Q2) and after giving my c/c number and downloading and installing, they never ended up charging me for it.
Don't know why, but very happy.
BTW the new map doesn't seem to be any different to the 2006 Q4 one.

there are usually subtle differences in the maps :) I know in my area there will be quite a few in the new maps.. and about the CC, keep a look out, sometimes the charge isn't instant ;) I've had ones which have taken a few weeks!
