Anyone having a problem with the time adjusting itself all the time?
I set the area to GMT +10 Sydney, and sometimes it just changes by itself to GMT +10 Vladivostok and the time changes to 3 hours back somehow.

All networks have been saying they won't stock the TC.
HTC said they were testing since Dec.
Given how long TYTNII took to come out, I'd say another 6mths at least.

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd share my experience with the TC. Got it two weeks ago. Had problems with VPN and then a couple of days ago the phone functions stopped working.

Rang HTC support. These guys are great. Pick up the phone after the second ring and get a real person who knows what they are talking about. In australia too! Told them the problems told me to return it and as it was within two weeks of purchase I'd get a new one.

Took it back to HN and they sorted it for me ... 24 hours later I pick up a brand new TC.

Talk about great service. Although dissapointed the first one failed great to see that HTC back up their product so well.

I just backed up my phone using spirt back-up, to my surpise all my calander information was gone, lucky for me I was able to re-sync and all is fixed. But wasnt a back-up meant to keep that information as well???

Is there a 3rd party program to do a better job?

Has anyone had problem joining the HTC club, if the have bought the phone from eBay?

Hi giproblue,

Does Harvey Norman stock TC?

If so, from which store did you buy your TC? Did you buy it outright? How much was it?

I'm interested to buy one but prefer not to buy it over the internet.

Thanks.

HN do stock it. I got mine from there. I believe they're about $1199 from there. Although it could be more HN are often at least $100 more than everywhere else. For example when I got mine they had the original HTC Touch for $699 whereas I see the Touch for $599 everywhere else. They had mispriced the cruise at the store I went to which I didn't realise at the time as I didn't know the rrp and I got it for a lot less than retail so I'm not sure how much they normally charge. It was the last one at the time but they definitely stock it.

I got mine without a car kit, and now I’m looking for one, however I always got the manufactures products, as this time there will be a huge difference in price I’m thinking of eBay. But I’m no electronic expert or have experience buying from eBay. I’m not sure if a car charger from eBay that claims to compatible with half a dozen products will not over charge the circuits and blow a chip or two.

I just noticed on my screen, when there is a clear white page there is a bit of a discolouration (instead of white it’s grey) and only a little patch, say 3mm x 3mm. However when there is colour say a picture you can’t see it. What could that be? I’m thinking either the screen protector or a faulty screen.

After a week of usage, the phone is everything I thought it would be, as a phone its easy to use and quick (ok not nokia quick)but I'm happy.
However as a GPS its pretty laggy and slow, I'm using TomTom6 and on the Asus A636 with SirfIII its much smoother and faster to respond even though its got a similar processor and RAM. So if anyone is getting it mainly for the GPS.. think hard.

I found that out with the P3600i i had. GPS had 'wow' factor - when it worked - but most ogf the time i wanted to throw it on the road , and it wouldnt lock onto satellites for about 10 mins.

At least this TC seems better, and works well enough. It will never be as good as a sirf III or dedicated car gps, but handy if you dont need GPS often.

Because of my concerns with the ability of the Touch Cruise as a phone (thanks to the input of fellow Whirlpooleans), I emailed HTC support (in Oz). I asked if either the Tytn II or Cruise can be connected to an external antenna in order to improve phone reception. The (very prompt) reply was that there is a "GSM RF antenna port next to the GPS port. On the Touch Cruise, this can be accessed by removing the rubber plug, however on the TYTN II, the back cover must be removed in order to access this port."

Can anyone confirm the existence of said port? Is it worthwhile?

Additionally, on the forum on the Expansys site, a number of people have expressed difficulties with the touch QWERTY keyboard - evidently there is more than one keyboard configuration option, but the chosen setting is not recalled when the device is next turned on/used. Anyone have similar probs? Is there a fix?

Thanks in advance.

I still can't for the life of me work out why some messages wont send or receive. Very annoying and disappointing.

The message(s) could not be sent. check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again.

initially i thought it happens if messages are too long (ie a few replys in the thread) but even after deleting the original reply message doesn't work. I've also tried cutting and pasting to NOTES then compose new message and pasting my text back in. Doesn't work.

Was hoping someone knows what going on here.. happened with my p3600i as well so must be crappy windows limitations or something. It just isn't as reliable or powerful enough but most of the time works ok.

Appreciate any insight to this bug. perhaps gmail isn't truly compatible or something

The 20 button "Touch Keyboard" (qwerty) sucks but i like the 12 button "Touch Keypad" with XT9 is quite good - better when using your finger than the stylus, as the stylus doesn't always register. But you are right - XT9 defaults back to ABC.

All these frigging little bugs are annoying and iu'll probably just get a nokia next time.

I only see one port. With the rubber bit you peel back labelled GPS. Haven't used it though. Manual does not say anything about a GSM RF antenna port either. Another problem I have is Wifi connection at home. I have a very simple set up with 'open' authentication level and WEP for encryption. It doesn't require the original card, it comes with an activation key. I bought a 8Gb card and copied it across & it worked fine... remember to copy via the usb adaptor instead of with activesync, because activesync takes ages.

May look better but O2 has copped a bad wrap lately mainly for customer service, warranty and build
as far as build goes the Orbit II is a rebadged HTC Cruise should expect build to be simliar..02 are no longer in Australia and yes have read bad accounts of service but no more than other brands ...we had 2 x 6280 (had 5 'new' replacement units and ongoing software issues), new palm treo 750 used for 1 week has unresponsive screen and it was a replacement unit!!
Cruise was going to be my next pda but will wait to see what issues (if any) surface as my current 02 Orbit (aka HTC P3300) is working fine...

Another opinion after one weeks use and some tweaking. This is my second smartphone (the first was a HTC tytn (Dopod 838 Pro)and I would not recommend it for those who primarily want a phone or those who not technology savvy.

Compared to the Tytn, the extra memory on the Polaris improves the user experience immensely. With the tytn I found it ran out of memory during the day due to memory drain and I had to reset it at least once a day to regain functionality. I don't really miss the keyboard but I had to install Tengo because the installed SIP's are a bit flaky.

The smaller form factor and weight means it can be comfortably carried in a pocket instead of in a holster on the belt like the tytn was.

Compared to the tytn the screen resolution is much better and brighter. In fact the screen is nearly perfect. One thing I have noted with battery drain, is that GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth do not drain the battery a great deal. It is the screen that really sucks the juice.

I love the touch flo because it makes it so much faster and easier to use. I added another side to the cube using a tweak from xda developers and was surprised what a difference such a simple change like than can make to usability.

Mine came installed with Tom Tom and I find the GPS is fast and easy to use. In fact better than my Tom Tom One which is a stand alone GPS.

I thought the screen would be a fingerprint magnet which it is but not really a problem because they clean off really easily. Leaving the phone in my pocket is all that is required to keep the screen clean

Cool - I'm trying to work out if running TomTom on one of these rather than a stand-alone GPS gives me a better set of features - main fear being it would be slow.

Can anyone comment on the performance vs the older P3600i? Is the GPS and general usage better with the TC? Or could I save my $$ and just get the P3600i?

Thanks.

I had one but now got a TC. The P3600i seems more zippy and responsive, however really falls down due to lack of memory, especially running several programs at once. i had it loaded up with everything that these come with (ie touch today screens, dialpads, mem mngr ) stock, and it slows it down.

You'd have to ask a few more people but personally i found the GPS on the p3600i very disappointing.

I have just done some tweaks to the way the cube flows, it is so much more responsive and quicker. I only need very short bursts of the thumb, one handed operation is now possible without looking like a tool.

Oh yeah got any details on this - i also heard you can add a 4th face to HTC's 3-sided cube?

I found you can almost get away typing with one hand using the Touch keypad if you're careful!

together it seem to work well

is anyone getting weird battery drain problems?

I've had mine a week (had a dopod 810 before this) and if I charge it and leave it overnight it drops 2%.. not much.. but when I take it to work and leave it in my bag - in a room that has no 3g receptoon.. it drains by 50%! and thats not using it at all during that time..

Weird.. i thought maybe the data link might be open but it can't be as there's no 3g..

My battery doesnt drain anywhere near that much. It actually lasts about 2-3 days before its low enough that I throw it on the charger but its never critically low.

users experience
I have had ny T.C for 2-3 weeks .After some time familiarising myself with unit <not fully there yet>am really enjoying it.
Had several Nokia phones and despite comments to the contrary the phone reception< on next g>is very good certainly no worse than nokia and I feel better with no drop outs clear sound.
Also the connection to blue tooth <old blue ant unit>is quick and reliable compared to the nokia which was very spasmodic
The screen and touch cube is very nice although it does not like bright sunlight
The camera is sluggish but better after spoke to HTC and advised to change some settings<cant remember exactly what> but photos are fine.
Mine was Australian unit came with Copilot,as am travelling oseas got a copy of tom tom with o/s maps and found it far more user friendly.I have also found the unit to be really quick and quickly readjusts alternate routes.
Can use most functions well with fingers wifi works well as does internet .
I recommend highly and would not go back to nokia or similar
Any easy tips for downloading music have not done this yet.

in a room that has no 3g receptoon

Thats your answer. When phone reception drops, phones usually bump up their power to try and detect/get a signal. Hence no reception, phone is transmitting at full power trying to get a signal. Well thats my theory.

Turn the phone off when at work if you know you have no reception.

Interesting theory.. I was thinking that myself.. yet the pda i had before which was 3G never did it.. I'll give it a go.. my only other thought is that I left the data on and then your theory might be possible ie: its searching to find the data connection..

could be a fault with the Cruises

I have not had time to keep up with all the posts so bear with me.

I am keen to purchase this phone but want to do so via one of the big providers (3, Optus, Telstra etc.). I just don't have time to configure this phone myself (sick young child, patient wife etc.). I have been into the stores in town in Brisbane (2 weeks ago) and they gave me the run around (never heard of it..., don't stock it etc. etc.). Been to the HTC Australian website and in their "Where to buy" section they list Optus, 3 stores and Dick Smith electronics...
very confusing.

Can someone tell me if and where I can talk to someone from one of the networks about purchasing this phone on or off contract?

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know how to do away with the Copilot icon and title on screen? Seems pointless, as the bottom-left hard key runs the same application. And how do I get rid of all the language files except English? Do I have to do it via PC?

Also having trouble manipulating the settings for the SIM PIN. If I don't touch the unit for about a minute, I get locked out and have to re-enter the PIN. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

I am new to pda. I am planning to buy TC from ebay....I am not sure whether the phone is australia version or not.

Do you think it will work with Optus/Telstra/Three/Voda? (it's a quadband phone...so it should work right)

Where can I get the Data/Mobile Internet/3G settings?
Do you guys use WLAN or mobile 3g network to access internet/emails/msn? WLAN in my office is restricted to certain users only.

btw, which carriers do you use?

Thanks.

you can be pretty sure it won't be.. can i suggest if your not comfortable flashing the rom (or have no idea what I mean) pay a bit more and get a local version.. I got a Dopod from ebay and it was fine but I did a lot of research first and flashed it with a custom ROM.. if the flash went bad however I was up s%$t creek with warranty..

The cruise I just got I bought from a local supplier.. I couldn't be bothered going through all the research and risk again..

The one from ebay will work here but you'll need all the settings for your carrier.. or go over to xda developers.. there should be a CAB with australian settings you can use..

I too am considering an ebay Cruise. I'm looking at one where the stock is in Melbourne... I've contacted the seller, and he has informed me it's an import, and can't verify if it'll work on Next G. I haven't bought a phone for 3.5 Years, So I'm a bit clueless. Internet on my V3 RAZR was so slow it was unusable. Because the cruise has HSDPA, this means Internet will be fast yeah? I've skimmed the thread and aparantly you need a US model that does UMTS 850Mhz, to be compatible with Next G. Is Next G and HSDPA the same thing?

And If I do end up with a Euro phone that doesn't support UMTS 850 can I just get some firmware from xdadevelopers.com and flash it to an Australian firmware?

I'm going to be travelling to Europe for 6 weeks starting late June. So I want to get the phone ASAP so I can get used to it. I don't want to be overseas with a phone, finding I need to install half a dozen apps etc. I would like to get an Australian one, but they seem to be $1200, the ebay one with 8gb card is $925 (inc delivery), there are other ones cheaper, that are located in Hong Kong, but I don't know how long it will take to get here.

I believe the phone supports all HSDPA frequencies - it figures it out itself. I bought mine from the UK and it tells me that 3G is available i.e the 3G icon is displayed. Other times I get the H icon for HSDPA available. I use GSM on Optus at the moment.

The phone will download and configure itself from the mobile phone carrier when it connects - will that is what mine did for GPRS settings. Can't think why it would not be the same for 3G type settings.

When you buy HTC TC from Asia-Singapore/Malaysia, you'll get a preloaded licenced GPS nagivation software -> Mapking R12. But if you buy in Australia, the HTC TC will be preloaded with CoPilot 7 Live GPS nagivation sw.
I need australia maps though.

But I dont think you will get a used unit, since these guys have had the phone in stock for several weeks now and even before the release of Asutralian stock.

WRONG. There are two models of Touch Cruise one is made for Europe this supports 2100 UMTS/HSDPA and one for USA which supports 850/1900 UMTS/HSDPA. Obviously this means one can not blindly purchase Touch Cruise and expect it to work on network of their choice.

O.P if you want to use Touch Cruise on NextG ensure it is the model that supports 850.

Thats because HTC Trinity supports tri-band UMTS/HSDPA whereas HTC Polaris doesn't.
