I think this is a new deal from 3.
you get 3GB for $29 and you pay $5 for the modem each month.
But what i was wondering is if you have to pay the $5 for the modem if your already a 3 customer(which i am), because with its new 1GB deal it says if you are already a 3 customer you don't have to pay anything each month for the modem.
Anybody know if i have to pay for the modem when i hopefully soon get 3's 3GB deal???.

Yes.

Either modem is available for free, for existing Three post-paid mobile customers, who take out a new Mobile Broadband plan, on a 24 month contract.

It surely seems to work. I just upgraded my 2 GB for $29 OTR "plan" to the new 3GB at $29 OTR plan over the phone. Was very simple and if I haven't overlooked anything this would give me an extra GB for the same price. Sounds good to me.

Did they initially try to tell you you had to agree to a 24 month contract (despite owning your modem outright) to get that extra GB?

Hi,

I just signed up today to the 3GB plan for $29 per month using my own HP mini-PCI express card WWAN modem. No run around about having to sign up for 24 months :) Only thing was that I had to bring my laptop in to confirm that it would work and agree that some features and functions may not be available as it isn't a 3 branded modem. All in all I was pretty happy to confirm it would work in the shop before signing up anyway. Now I just have to wait 24 hours for the SIM to be activated.

btw: does anyone know what the default pin on the sim card is? Is it 0000?

update: the pin is 0000 and i am now activated d/l is about 384kbs as expected as I live at the bottom of a hill but I have cable at home anyway.

Thanks.

I was waiting to see if the 6GB for $69 would automatically turn into the 6GB for $49 but it didn't so rang up and got it changed.

The only attempt at putting me on a contract was: he asked if my modem was new. I said yes and he didn't bother trying to get me on contract...

new rate will start at the end of my current billing period...

Hi,

The model no is: GG590AA
The model description is HP 2300 Broadband Vodafone Wireless Card but be rest assured it is actually Generic and not tied to Vodafone. I checked with HP before purchase.

Cheers,

Ray.

Are you paying an additional $5 per month for the modem?

I signed up in store to 3 yesterday, $29 for 3GB no contract no modem.

I own my own dongle which is a 3 from dick smiths.

A quick credit check some paper work charge on a credit card.

2hrs later on line and working.

I was told 4hrs, however you need to wait overnight for your account details to be on line and do any updates (that is another story).

After waiting 6 weeks to relocate ADSL 50m and still not having a service, ditched Optus and signed up for $29 3GB. Came home, plugged it in, and I have internet again. Love it. Certainly slower than ADSL2+ but it's fast enough, no contracts, and works NOW.

How good is the 3 network in and around Brisbane and north to Redcliffe and Bribie for mobile intenet? Any unpleasent charges for roaming off 3?

The $29(+ $5 for modem)for 3 gigs seems like a great deal. Is it?

I'd value some feedback as i am considering getting one of these for my uni student Son.

Thanks!

The modem is default 3 only (i think) so you only have to watch your quota to avoid the 10c/MB excess.

if you turn on National Roaming you risk getting hammered bigtime.

I'm going to have to upgrade my connection to 4GB for $49 I think.

I seem to be chewing up the usage allowance. I suppose I am not used to being charged for both upstream and downstream usage.

Seamus, as far as i'm aware 3 Charges for both way's uploading and dowloading are counted towards your monthly allowance.

Yeah, I need to get out of the habit of letting it idle. :)

I went OTR recently from a 12month/1G/$29 plan but could only go to 29/2G online.

I tried customer care today and got a very unhelpful person who said I can go $29/3G for $5 extra a month contract but I can go $49/6G for $49 a month no contract! Was really interested in getting on the $49!

Now the $49/6G option has the same T&C as the $29/3G plan but he "could not" change me to the same price plan as the option for transfer to $29/3G was "not coming up".

Any suggestions.

Try 3 Care again and be more insistent. When it does not come up on their automatic system suggest that it needs to be done manually. Have the following page (www.three.com.au/cs/Cont...ilebroadband_mab) open while you talk to them and make it clear that their website states that $29/3GB is available without a contract.

I went through it a couple of weeks ago and eventually convinced them to do it.

Thanks

I had that page up and he was not for changing. Will try again when I have a bit of time.

I also wonder whether it may have something to do with the final payout for going OTR not having been processed yet.

Will keep trying...

I'll have to try contacting a real live humanoid in the hope I'll get lucky, but one way or another I have to "up" the allowance because I'm over the limit again and still have a week to go before rollover time. :)

Ah, stuff it. I'll just go online and upgrade it.

The plans available to me without cancellation fee are:

• Mobile Bband 24m $49 - 4GB; and
• Mobile Bband 24m $69 - 6GB.

The plans available to me incurring cancellation fee are:

• Mobile Bband OTR $29 - 2GB;
• Mobile Bband OTR $49 - 4GB; and
• Mobile Bband 24m $15 - 500MB.

Looks like I might as well just upgrade to the 4GB. I need it. C'est La Vie. :)
