Just for the record, I haven't yet upgraded the firmware on the modem after the last debacle. At about 6:30 I tried to ring my parents a few times who live on the north coast of NSW and kept getting a message "all lines to the are you are calling are busy, please try later". Hmmm, tried calling my mobile phone sitting next to me and got the same message.

Rang home from the mobile, it went straight to voicemail. Tried again and it rung. Rang my parents from my mobile (Optus 3G) and it worked fine.

Just tried again, it took 3 tries to get the home phone to ring from the mobile. First got voicemail. 2nd engaged, then 3rd it rang. What gives? I doubt it is problems with the Optus network as first go on the Optus mobile got through to the call I was trying.

Yeah I've had that experience twice out of twice when I went to ring home.
I don't ring home very often and only those two times.

Mine was worst, first time it rang but call timed out after quite a number of rings so I thought hmm, maybe mum is outside in the garden.

So I ring again and get a busy signal.

Third time I ring it says the mobile device is switched off.

Ring mum on her mobile and she says no the phone didn't ring, don't know what you are talking about.

Worth noting that these issues are not always VBB@H specific. My wife reported getting a message about my mobile number being disconnected this afternoon. At the same time I was trying to reach Voicemail from my (Virgin) mobile and got nothing first up, then message saying all lines were busy - evidently some brief problem with the Virgin service where I was (was fine few minutes later).

Optus seem to have had problems around the times you have said. A thread here reflects that forum-replies.cfm?t=941556

We had an outage on part of our infrastructure that affected Virgin customers (both mobile and Broadband At Home) from around 6pm to 8.30pm. The symptoms were that only around 1 in 3 outbound calls from a Virgin Mobile device were able to connect. SMS was unaffected, as were inbound calls from other networks.

Correct as this did happen … once … but the appointment that I missed should have generated a very irate call but there was none : )

But only around 1 in 3 outbound calls from a Virgin Mobile device were able to connect

Not in my case … continious attempts at using the VBB@H service and a couple of attempts at using the moble were not

What will be the next major outage ? There appears to be times when the perfect storm will happen … the last was the 5 or 6 Jan - a Sunday when everyone who have been away on the Xmas Break came home and jumped on the Net … this was an Internet Outage BTW.

Robert T

Do you have any ideas when the next major overload will happen ?
This is IMHO predictable from past experience …

Thanks Robert. Though you can put my percentage up to 0/4 being able to connect.

It is also interesting that twice now I have called home from a mobile (one Telstra, one Optus) and the first time each go it went straight to voicemail without ringing. The second try immediately after worked. And no, I was at home both times so I know the phone wasn't in use. That's another slight bug - at the same time the internet was working fine.

The first one I needed to get the mobile number of a Telstra SIM I had in a work device, last night was testing the service after I couldn't make outbound calls.

Hey Whirlpool Mods, can we change the title of this thread by adding a "r" between the "t" and the "a" in "outage?

Service Outage 1 week on the home phone from 1004hrs on 15/4 to present No reply to emails by CS. Previous month for 4 days on the same date as though Optus has lost the plot with Telstra. Last time said call them on the phone. Thicker than a Brick at CS.

Letter to CEO but what hope.

Still no action at 8.45am, even though they start at 7am. Get to it, fellows.

Phone not working here at 6pm. Can't dial out. It was working before because it gave me the optus message when trying to call a 13 number this afternoon. Seriously Virgin, how about fixing the 13 numbers, its been a long time since these problems started and it's still no better.

This is one issue where Virgin are not the ones at fault. In my experience if you let them know the number you can't call they are very helpful about trying to get the provider in question to recognise the Virgin phone numbers - Virgin cannot possibly know if all 13 numbers are working and are reliant on the other providers getting off their arses and updating their systems or VBB@H customers telling them when they can't reach a 13 number.

We no longer have to worry about this issue as we have ported our old number over long ago.

My internet has dropped out (and I have to hit the connect button every time) about 15 times trying to download a 220 meg file, it stays on HSDPA with 2 bars and -93. Is this the same problem everyone is having?

HSDPA at 93 should work

See /wiki/?tag=virgin_broadband_aerial_antenna

But I have had to reset at 75 HSDPA because nothing was happening.

If the internet is playing up it is likely that everyone has given up.

Find out tommorrow ?

I feel your pain on that issue.. But it's the only way to keep it working, The only other way is streaming like a radio station whilst you use the net so it wont cut off,
Only problem is we cant do this anymore so a self made fix isn't allowed :(:(

Lucky you

I am still on GRPS for the third day and still trying to get a response from Robert since Satuday about when its going to work as advertised and a exit.

This is just not worth the frustration any longer.

No mine is more like the tower will be reset on one day, I will then get 2 good days and then on the third day it will fall over again.

This happens twice a week with frustrating regularity.

Then add the constant internet interruptions and the phone drop outs.

I cant understand how they can continue to advertise this.

I am. I posted in another thread that I've been having problems since Friday, when there was no rain at my place, but there was rain elsewhere in Victoria.

I'm mostly on GPRS, occasional HSPDA flickers but nothing solid since my 3G strength has tended to be around the -110dBm mark since the rains came.

VIC: 3199 for the record. This seems to happen every time it rains, thank G-d we're in a drought or I'd be really stuck!
