I asked TPG whether I could get one of their adsl2+ plans with a Telstra Homeline Budget landline plan and their answer seems to be no:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your email.

In response to your enquiry,

As the ADSL/ADSL2+ service is running over an existing phone line, we do require a number to check whether the service is available for you. If you would please be able to provide us with a phone number, we will be happy to test that for you.

The telephone line needs to be under the Telstra Network and therefore a Telstra Wholesaler such as AAPT is also suitable. We recommend that before connecting with a company that you check if they are using their own infrustructure or if they are utilising Telstra's network.

The Homeline Budget plan of Telstra is normally running on a Line Sharing System wherein TPG is not compatible.

TPG is unable to provision ADSL services to most numbers on the Optus network. The majority of Optus numbers will have their profiles ported from the Telstra network, on which TPG exists over. Without access to the profile, we will not be able to test and provision ADSL service on the number.

Kind Regards

I have ADSL2+ with TPG + using Telstra Homeline budget.

However for some reason my IPTV doesn't seem to be working with it. I have tried every possjibility there is and have sent the iptv team for *futher investigation*. So i'm wondering if there is a connection for the issue with the reply you received from TPG.

Anyways....yes you should be able to get it unless they have changed their terms and conditions recently in the last 3 months or so.

Yeah, me too.
I've been running homeline budget and ADSL2+ for a while now with no problems.
IPTV works fine for me too, so if that's an issue for some people, I would suggest it has more to do with their modem/config.

I guess that the TPG idiot just performed a copy and paste. Going by the responses here and the stack of threads I will go for it. My situation is less common in that I am starting with nothing. Thanks all.

my gf just had telstra connecting her home phone on Homeline Budget, called TPG and they did the checking over the phone, no problems. All we're waiting is for Telstra technician to do their job now.

why don't you give TPG your new number and they'll tell you straightaway if you can get TPG internet or not.

I think the issue might be with a new ADSL2+ service where you already have Homeline Budget.

In this case it might have to be a case of changing to Homeline Complete, getting ADSL2+, then changing back to Homeline Budget.

It is against Telstra's T&Cs for the Homeline Budget plan for users to utilise an xDSL service that is provided via LSS (as TPG's ADSL2+ is). However, changes due to what I believe was to separate Telstra retail and wholesale further, Telstra wholesale cannot see the retail PSTN service you have and therefore cannot reject the ADSL2+ application. All they can confirm is an active PSTN service on the provided phone number / address.

Ref: www.telstra.com.au/homep...ompare_plans.htm
HomeLine Budget customers agree not to acquire services from other carriage service providers by dialling their access override code and must not acquire a broadband service from another service provider which is provided using line sharing technology.

As others have said, don't mention the current PSTN service you've got when applying as TPG doesn't need to know.

So I apply for a HL Budget and only say that I will be applying for an adsl service from isp X then apply for an adsl2+ plan from TPG and say that I'm on whatever pstn plan they think I should be on then cross my fingers that everything works out. Thanks for the advice.

Don't tell telstra you're planning to use another ISP. If they ask, just say that you want a cheap line for phone calls. If you tell them that you're planning to go with TPG they will force you on to a more expensive plan.

Similarly, I wouldn't go out of my way to tell TPG you're on a Telstra budget plan. They certainly didn't ask me what plan I had when I signed up, and from TPGs point of view they wouldn't want to turn people away just because of the plan they've got with Telstra.

Hi There,

Here is my story cut short:

I moved to a new flat - read in here that I cannot apply for homeline budget if I get wanna get ADSL 2+ with another provider.

I called telstra and told the guy twice that I am getting ADSL 2+ with someone else and that I need a plan that I can get but he still assured me it was homelie budget so I took it.

Got ADSL2+ with TPG with VOIP but at the start my line was all crackly in my new place and I could not get a decent phone call when it rains and it kept disconnecting my line so the wife started using the normal line as VOIP was unusable which made me switch to the higher plan "as the price of a phone call was less expensive"

My line is back to normal and I just sent an email to Telstra and they put my line back to homeline budget so I am paying $20 back again.

Hope this helps.

I got TPG ADSL 2+ two weeks ago. I got Homeline budget on a brand new connection 5 weeks ago.

Get the home line budget first then TPG.

No probs.
