What are the changes required to be done in a small 4 port calble/dsl router ( Link Sys) BEFSR41 ( Model No ) so that i does not act as a DHCP.

in our network the ip range is 19.168.0 X

how ever when i connect my machine through this router i get an ip 192.168.1.X

I just dont wanna be in a mess !

So i turn of DHCP in the router and DNS and gateway should be the same which is for the rest of the network rite ?

Also which ports do i need to open for Remote Desktop ?

Thank you in advance :)

cheers,

zllauh

ok the BEFSR41 is a simple router

obviously the cable modem connects to the wan port of the BEFSR41

then the BEFSR41 should be doing the dhcp serving

how is this set ? , are all comps static ip addressed ?

only if something else is doing the dhcp serving

www.portforward.com/engl...mote_Desktop.htm

you will note that you need to set static ip address to make this work

more info on how your lan is set up plz

HI Pete,

Thanks for the response,

really appreciate it :)

In our network we have our server which does the DHCP, ( its 192.168.0.5)

the gate way is 192.168.0.1

so i enter this in the router and turn off DHCP rite !

hmm quick question for you,

why do u think i should assign a static ip to my router ,

??? if this is for remote desktop then i am good to do it , or else i dont think i would ,

hope to hear frmo you soon :)

Best practice.

Network infrastructure needs fixed IP because its... well... a network (interacting with other devices).

there should be a field in LAN configuration or DHCP configuration page to allow you enter the IP range given by router
