Whim Skyride for info or check the EEEPC thread.

Did you use nLite to cut down your XP install?

I have XP Professional on my cute new eeeeee pc.

I installed and followed the guidelines in the manual.

All worked well. I have 30 days before i have to reload.. lol.. damn Dell XP discs.

I have XP Home OEM with licence keys x 2.. but it needs XP SP2 it came up with a PCI error blue screen of death when i tried the XP Home SP1 :(

I ended up installing into the Solid State internal Hard Drive 4 gigs., and have over 2 gigs free.

I moved the Internet Temp files and the My Documents to a 2Gig SD Card.

I also purchased a Western Digital 160gig USB Powered Mini 2.5" Hard Drive.

I had hoped to install XP onto that, and be able to just boot from the USB drive.. but for some reason.. it still installed some of XP on the internal partition.. as I got a NTLDR not found error.

I also tried installing XP on the SD Card and a USB flash drive.. all with no success.

If anyone has been successful, I would love to know how they did it. As I would prefer to leave the Linux installed and just boot to windows when I needed it.

I only really wanted Windows so I can sync my Itunes while I am away on holidays.

The preloaded Linux solution seems to do most things quite well.

EDIT> I also want to know is there a utiltiy where i can save my Solid State drives contents.. ie.e the XP installation onto another drive as a backup? A bit like Ghost... maybe ghost will work.. something to kill more of my sleep..lol

You would have to format them to ntfs file system

You might be able to find some useful instructions here

wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:installxp

Although it looks like too much work for me, I think I'll stick with Xandros for the time being.

Whim me if you want a step by step guide to installing XP (nlite'd) on the eeepc using a single 1gb usb stick. All it requires is 3 files to download, a desktop computer running xp, a 1gb usb stck, and a copy of xp pro sp2, and some patience.

I have XP on my EEE. It has 800mb swap file and 2.1GB free space.

I used Nlite to make a really slim but still highly functional version of XP SP2. Moved the My Documents, Temp file directories, applcation data file directories and most programs to 8GB SD card. Some programs won't install or have limited functionality if installed on SD. Most will work fine.

I've kept the swap file on original SSD because the SD is not as fast as the built in SSD and I don't think it will let you put an swap on SD anyway.

1gb ram and 8gb sd card...windows xp runs sweet! I'd rather have it than crappy sentinmental linux distros. At the end of the day the software on xp is want I'd rather use. Tried unbuntu and stuck with original xandros. Crap. Crap. Crap.
