Hi,
Im looking for free web hosting with unlimited bandwidth because my dad writes songs and records them through his keyboard and would like to upload them somewhere, we would like at least 500MB as we would like to keep the songs up for quite a while and not have to replace the song every time we want to upload a different song/version. Thanks in advance.

Honestly I doubt you'd find one, and if you did it wouldn't be reliable enough for your father.

ok... thanks for your quick reply, anothing thing i forgot to mention was that we would prefer no ads... but as you seem to think it will be hard enough to find one, we may not have a choice. Thanks again.

Get some free hosting for a simple web page, host the videos on Youtube and embed them. Done.

just my 2c if you do find someone that gives "unlimited" bandwidth for free (ads or no ads) more then likely some time sooner or later you will wake up to find the site and or provider no longer there

Hey mate,

I buy a lot of British web designer magazines. Theres a few "claim" to offer unlimited bandwidth. If you can't find anything similar in the US. You might want to pop upto a local newsagency and check out a few British web design magazines.

EDIT: Here are a few places you might want to check out.

fasthosts.co.uk/wd
www.webfusion.co.uk
www.heartinternet.co.uk

Anyways, good luck!

Be careful if you're going for "unlimited" bandwidth.

It could be true that bandwidth is more expensive in Australia, but everywhere in the world it costs money. Because of this, you might (and probably will) find that "unlimited" has some very strict conditions in the Terms and Conditions that mean it's not actually unlimited. For example, unlimited bandwidth - provided you keep it under a few hundred megabytes a day. Or they insist that you have advertising.

So basically ... if you do find one, read the terms and conditions _very_ _carefully_ to make sure it is what you think it is.

You won't find ANY free providers with the amount you are looking for.

Thanks for those, i had a very brief look at those and am about to go back to them to have a more thourough look, how ever i could not find any free hosting on their sites.

So ok... alot of you have been saying 'very hard to find' 'unreliable' how about free hosting with a high amount of bandwidth even if its not unlimited, the amount people would actually be streaming my dads mp3's would be fairly low so ive been considering that maybe 1200MB is enough but im not too sure and i would like contingency of maybe 2GB worth, Once again thanks for all your replys it is much appreciated

Why not just pay $10 a month to a US host offering gigs an gigs of bandwidth (sometimes even terrabytes of bandwidth), that way you get support, no ads, and gobs of bandwidth without any headaches.. It's $10...

Just my 2c.

Like Chris said, just get a paid service. Webhosting is dirt cheap now, you could pay up for a year with a provider and never have to worry about it again.

It will only cost you $30-$100 per year depending on what host.

I would also expect limitations as to the file sizes as well.

seriously check out www.webhostingtalk.com

or check out dreamhost.com - uber cheap

it's worth paying a few dollars a month to ensure reliable webhosting with few restrictions.

$5.95 a month is insane for you what.. Think about it, it's two beers a month.. free - meh, you're going to have adverts, all sorts of restrictions etc...

Though there is an alternative, and that is to host it at home on a pc which a dynamic ip(dyndns) the limitation here is your quota/plan that you are on.

Exactly.. Breezy Hosting Have some cheap plans..
I think from memory about 15GB of space, 300GB Bandwidth, $4.50USD per month...
Quite cheap!

As many people above me, i seriously doubt that you will find what you want, for free.

Free is always good, but then you have to put up with advertising banners etc, which just ruin the look of a page and make it look like a hack job... Paying a small amount per month ($US4-5) is pocket change and it will provide you with a decent control panel, support, extra features, ftp, email accounts etc.

I've used dreamhost before and I've found them nothing short of excellent. The quota also grows every month(or is it week?) The only reason I left them is that I changed to a VPS for $14.95 so I can run my own server.

(Well, there is t35.com which supposedly gives unlimited bandwidth and space on the free account, but with a banner on your pages. Not sure about the fine print of it all.)
EDIT
Actually, its free, but files are limited to 512 kBytes.

There is freewebtown which offers 2GB of Space and Bandwidth free with no ads, however.
Also, if you are just looking for a place to store files only, there are other free sites to look at.

I wouldn't suggest Dreamhost... we had our TAFE website running off of it and it had a habit of going down every couple of days and taking ages to come back up again

You technically can't use dreamhost for hosting "Files" that aren't part of a website.

From their T&C:
The customer agrees to make use of DreamHost Web Hosting servers primarily for the purpose of hosting a website, and associated email functions. Data uploaded must be primarily for this purpose.. DreamHost Web Hosting servers are not intended as a data backup or archiving service. DreamHost Web Hosting reserves the right to negotiate additional charges with the Customer and/or the discontinuation of the backups/archives at their discretion.

I use dreamhost and haven't had any issues with them - my friend swears by bluehost though. I think they are both pretty good. With dreamhost there are tonnes of online coupons available online so use that before you sign up with them.

With bluehost there are coupons available, but not in the traditional sense. You will have to sign up online using a person with some sort of affiliate link. They get some amount of money for having you sign up for 90 days, and then they return some of this money back to you.

+1

I often see people in here complaining that dreamhost went down for days at a time... I've been with them since Mar 2005, and had site monitoring for a lot of that time. The longest ever downtime I've had was 24 minutes when they had some huge power outage in the area and their backup power failed cause of the duration.

And I mean srsly... 6898 GB transfer a month and 588.2 GB of storage for 26 cents a day? Even a homeless bagman can afford that.

You'll be flat out finding an Australian host that can match even 1/10th of those allowances for a similiar price.... and it would be far inferior hardware if it did manage to match that 1/10th.

I've got an account with www.servage.net - they're based in Germany, for all intents and purposes it's unlimited disk and bandwidth, around $7-8 AUD per month.

You can get 25GB extra storage using coupon code "bonusdiskspace" too.

They're pretty good and for that price it also includes a domain name.

It's not free but seriously it's the next best thing.
