Cable Modem (Bigpond Extreme)
to
SPA3102
to
DLink Wireless Router
to
1 PC. & 1 Network Printer & 1 laptop (wireless)

Works, but I cannot access my router by the browser due to both the SPA3102 and router having same IP address (192.168.0.1). Couldn't manage to get the SPA3102 to work out of one of the LAN ports on the router, but this configuration worries me as the SPA3102 ethernet port connects to the router LAN port and not the WAN port, so is this bypassing the router SPI firewall? Would appreciate a step by step guide to this kind of setup if anyone knows where one is, or they feel like enlightening me. Thank you for any direction here.

sam

the best way to connect things is cable modem - dlink - internet port of spa3102.

each port on the spa3102 will have a different network adress range

eg internet port 192.168.0.xx and ethernet port 192.168.1.xx

u can use the voice prompt system via ya handset to find out what the ip addresses are for each - have the phone connect and discon the telephone line then dial **** then 110#

u will need to turn on the web access via the internet port - can do this via the handset too - 7932# then 1 to enable

you will prob want to turn off dhcp on the spa3102 as its on by default.

hope this helps

Not if the dlink doesn't have QoS for VoIP.

Does it???

I have a similar setup with a D-Link 524, which doesn't have QoS for VoIP. whirlpool.net.au/index.c...iew&model_id=281
I got around the problems you've stated, but I'll have to revisit what I did. Forgot! Hahaha.

Edit. I "revisited" a little......
This helped me: forum-replies.cfm?t=784505#r7

I think it was something like the above link (from modem to INTERNET on the 3102, ETHERNET out from 3102 to a LAN port on router, and another LAN to PC), using 3102 as router, DHCP disabled on the D-Link.
And somehow (?) I changed the D-Link's IP address.
(Hope it makes some sort of sense).

Thanks for your advice, I have finally managed to change the ip address in the router, by unplugging the SPA3102, which allowed me to get into the DI-724P to change the address to 192.168.0.10 from 192.168.0.1 which is for web access to the SPA3102. Its working, but either the web is slow tonight, or it has given me a big hit on my download speed, when I use the Whirlpool Bigpond Speed test link. I also turned off the DHCP in the DI-724P. I still wish there was a clear direction on this, should I then set the SPA3102 to provide set ip addresses to the router and two pc's and printer, and also set the router as a static ip address as assigned by the SPA3102. And I still do not understand if this configuration is bypassing the built in firewall of the router. I will keep searching for information on this.

I think that the best way of connecting them would be...

Cable modem ----- Dlink------ SPA3102-------Computer 1

Then connect your Printer and Laptop to your Dlink. That way you still use the QoS on your SPA for your computer 1 which I assume would be the bulk of your usage.
Thats kind of what I have done and everything is humming... and you shouldn't need to change any IP or DHCP settings.

I'm kinda a newb, so please tell me if this is wrong, I won't be offended :)

edit: And to find your IP for your SPA3102, just look up the DHCP settings of your router, it will have all IP listed. Or use your phone as suggested already.

In my setup, Modem -> 3102 -> Router -> PC, following instructions from a friend, I had to leave DHCP enabled in the 3102, and disable DHCP in the router, as Sam seems to have done.

Under 3102 Router tab, Lan Setup tab, mine is set with Enable DHCP Server: yes, DHCP Client Starting IP Address: 192.168.0.2 and Number of Client IP Addresses: 50.
I think that covers any other IP addresses in that range.
I don't think I changed anything else there.

and also set the router as a static ip address as assigned by the SPA3102.

Under WAN tab in my D-Link, its set to Dynamic IP Address.

But that way, if the D-Link does not have QoS for VoIP, wouldn't you be reducing the quality of VoIP calls?

i think the way the SPA3102 manages QOS is by keeping a certain amount of upload bandwidth to itself.

this is fine if ya making lots of calls, but seems a bit of overkill if you only a make a few calls a day n the rest of the time you've lost 70-100 kbs of upload bandwidth.

i could be wrong, but from reading various forums the maximum uplink speed in the Router - WAN tab needs to b set lower than the real upload speed of ya line. most forums showed 70-100 kbs difference was required.

to me that's QOS with a sledge hammer. the way the new firmware for the Billion 74XX series works where they have prioritisation based on VOIP in use is much better. as soon as a VOIP call is made toher traffic is slowed right down. call finished and things go back to normal.

I look at it the other way around really....
If you "only make a few calls a day", losing bandwidth during those calls is a minor concern. It's all about good quality VoIP calls to me.

I don't seem to have bandwidth problems during VoIP calls.....

My SPA3102 settings: QoS Policy: Always On....QOS QDisc: TBF .... Maximum Uplink Speed: 256(Kbps)

Ok, I seem to have it working well now, and I set it up as follows, though still have to get to understand basics of networks etc.

Cable modem ----- Dlink W/Router------ SPA3102 LAN1, PC Lan2, NetPrinter Lan3, Laptop by wireless. I used part of the following guide to do this.... www.nch.com.au/hardware/setup/fxo.html#AAB , so basically I changed the SPA3102 to a static ip address instead of DHCP and plugged the "Internet" port of the SPA3102 into the Router Lan port. I then set the Dlink up to allocate the static ip address of the mac address of the SPA3102 the same as the static ip address setup in the SPA3102.
Reason I did it this way, instead of Cable modem ----- SPA3102 ------Dlink W/router to devices, is that I still don't understand whether the SPI firewall of the router would still be operating in this type of setup, and I was not concerned about QOS. Thanks for everyones advice in this, if and when I understand this better, I will post more details. I did call MyNetFone for assistance, but the person I spoke to kept going on about it needing to be in bridged mode, and that they could not provide assistance with this.
