It's simple, isn't it.

Monthly allowance / days in month * days left in period.

So, if I change to a 12GB Liberty plan with 5 days remaining, how many MB do you reckon I should get?

12000/30*5=2000
12000/31*5=1935.5
12000/(365/12)*5=1972.6

The figure calculated by BigPond was 1920MB. That's 384MB/day.

How do they get that?

This is not the first time I have noticed it. Every time I change to a 12GB Liberty plan, the remaining allowance works out at 384MB/day.

Where do they get 384/day from?

Has anyone changed mid-month to a 25GB Liberty plan? What daily allowance do you get on that change?

I don't think they're Pro Rata calculator works. I changed to the 20000k 12GIG Liberty 2 days before my new billing month. I had only used 6GIG of the month so far to find that I was left with 0MB left for the month :/ .

So I called Accounts on (13 POND option 3), only to receive a 2GIG allowance which they will only ever do once and never again. Thanks BP! :)

Best Option is to call accounts and to post back

Bigpond bills are very confusing when they pro rata them. You have to think how they would think.

They pro-rate for exact days - if your billing period runs from 15/7 - 14/8, for example, and you change the plan on 1/8, your next bill will show a refund of 14 days worth of the old plan fee as well as 14 days charge of the new plan fee - same thing with the usage.

14 days into the month you change plans? For a Liberty 12 gig plan, it works out thus:

(12000 x 14) / 30.4 = 5526.

So if you change from a 200mb to a 12 gig Liberty plan halfway through the month, you get approx 5.5 gig.

i would just try to follow a simple rule of thumb - use up ur allowances before changing plans - that always works.

We know how pro-rata works, it's how they get the daily allowance.

(12000 x 14) / 30.4 = 5526.

Where did you get 30.4 days in a month from? And it doesn't give the number JC has noticed

The figure calculated by BigPond was 1920MB. That's 384MB/day.

384MB/day => 31.25 (exactly) days in a month. If they are averaging, I'm not sure how you can average the days in a month and get a number larger than the largest number you are averaging.

Edit - I know, I know....

According to the BP calculator there are 375 days in a year (31.25 x 12 = 375). Someone put the wrong number in a formula. Simple really :)

It's an average - 365 days in a year - 365 / 12 = 30.416666667 - rounding that to .1 decimal place brings it to 30.4 days in a month on average. It's only an estimation, but it's worked for me in the past - normally is only off by a couple hundred MB or so.

read the contract - the formula should be stated

It isn't. The only reference to pro-rata is in the FAQ's where it says "number of days in the month" and gives an example using 30 days. Not much help if JC is right with what he has observed.

And if you refer to my opening post, I considered that possibility too:

I see they have changed some of the details in that FAQ. It now makes less sense than it did before and they still didn't fix the errors in it.

it easy

use it or lose it policy - change your plan before you use the full allowance you lose the remaning allowance

only thing changes is cost - not data

Considering that I have used 25 to 30GB every month for the past 3 months (on 12GB Liberty plans), I'm not sure I really want to make a fuss about it.
