Hi, just building a new system. When I turn power on for the first time. There is a really loud high pitched squeel/beep sound from the video card. If I remove the video card no noise. Any ideas?

MB: GA P35-DS3
RAM: A-Data 2x1G DDR2 800
HDD: Seagate 160G SATA
GPU: MSI 8800GT
Case: CAC-T05
Optical Drive: pioneer burner IDE

Chris.

ps. the fan on the GPU doesn't spin, all other do.

It's the one on the right (you may have to copy and paste that URL to get it to work).

The card may have also come with an adaptor to turn 2x Molex power connectors into a PCIe power cable.

Ha, mine (the cable) is pressed against the frame of a fan in my case. Still works fine though.

just can't get it all the way in, i don't want to force it too hard, i don't think the pins are going straight in to the sleeves.

Mine does need a bit of pressure to go in but not too much. Have you had a look at the socket on the card to see if the pins are straight?

And a really, really silly question, and please don't take this the wrong way, but have you got the power connector the right way up? I nearly jammed it upside once in a rush.

yeah, it's the right way. i've given up. i just can't get it in, goes half-way, to where the pins should go into the sleaves. the sleaves aren't in the middle of the black bit, sort of against the edge. very p....ed off. i'll go to msy tomorrow and see if they can do it. or hopefully have a replacement one. is it a standard connector? hopes....

Good to see it's going, but that's ridiculous... the bundled power adaptor not fitting the card? Wow.

Have fun with that system.

Make sure the power cable has a PCI-e written on the end that you plug into the graphics card, with the other going into the PSU. Which PSU do you have? Is it modular? Either way, make sure you have the right 6-pin PCI-e plug, as other 6-pin heads wont fit into the card. I found this the hard way, apparently I was using the wrong cable.

That screeching sound is deafening, on a few occassions I forgot to plug the power to the GPU after cleaning or upgrading. Its a good warning system.

I have made a video documenting this strange high pitched noise problem. In my case, it was caused by my Tagan BZ-900 power supply.

Here is proof of my issue:
