Hey guys,

A mate of mine has an old Sony Vaio laptop, model number VGN-FS15C.

He bought it a while ago when it first came out, but since he's moved into a different house, the original driver CD is lost and it desperately needs a format.

Upon looking at the Sony site, or anywhere else, I can't seem to find anything on this model, let alone drivers.

Can someone point me into the right direction to get these files? I need to find these before I install a fresh copy of XP.

From the Vaio support website the closest match i could find was the VGN-FS115B. However from that link you should be able to look through the drivers yourself and choose to download the original ones in one nicely zipped pack. :D

Upon searching for the model you gave, it looks like the model you gave is a japanese model?

Yep. That makes it even harder... :(

Yes, but surely those drivers weren't meant for this particular model? Will they cause any conflicts/things not working properly?

He's already had the laptop formatted once with a splicing together of drivers from different models, and since then he has no sound support at all. :\

I can't guarantee anything as i do not know the particular hardware you are trying to install. If you can find out, for example, the make and model of the inbuilt sound card then it should be relatively easy to find the drivers :D

On a side note, nearly all mid range Vaio's (like my own) use the Realtek AC97 drivers. You could try them from here.

The worst that would happen is they won't work and you can uninstall them :)

That's hard too, because I can't seem to find any info on this model.

Cool, thanks.

Another thing that hasn't worked since the last format is his wirless LAN device. it refuses to detect any nearby networks. when looking at the driver it uses, it just says something like standard Microsoft compatibility driver.

Is this normal for a centrino laptop, or should it have it own sony driver?

From here you can pretty much see all the specs of the laptop. :)

It does have the AC97 drivers so they should work. As for the wireless and any other hardware a good free program is Everest. It should give you the manufacturer and model of each hardware piece.

Another educated guess would be the Intel 2200 as the inbuilt wireless.

Generally the Windows driver should work fine, but i usually just use the Intel driver for stability.

Hope it goes well :D

So I don't need the Sony driver for this then? Just download a centrino driver from Intel? (is there only one to choose from there?)

Thanks for your help so far!

Yup sony just using Intel parts as many other manufacturers do :P There are loads of different types of in-built wireless models that manufacturers but sony seem to use Intel's 2200BG quite a lot. The link i gave you in my previous post is for the 2200BG, you just need to choose the operating system of the computer.

Thanks for your help so far!

No probs :P

Sorry I can't help with the VGN-FS15C. I emailed Sony and they sent me the link below. Maybe try emailing them nicely? :-)

You can get drivers for the Sony Vaio VGN-TX27GP, VGN-TX26SP and VGN-TX26GP

I think that emailing sony was the first thing that should have been done to address this situation.
