I thought it was supposed to be February, but the best way to know is to ask a Telstra salesperson or manager.

the hiptop 3 recently went down in price to $469 while the Slide is $679. the LX will probably be the same price as a Slide or slightly more. u can pay them off over 24 months so it works out to be like $30 a month for the handset.

if price is an issue for you, get the hiptop 3, otherwise go for the Slide or LX

the hiptops are seriously life-changing mobile devices, if u get one it will become your new best friend right away. (it might sound sad but it's true. lol).

good luck!!

p.s. I'm writing this from my hiptop 3 :P

And another question lol

You know how u have the hip top 3?

Is the batt life good??

AND

How the screen twists - Is it easily to break? LOL

Thankss :D

the battery life on hiptops is only about 1 to 2 days but I've gotten used to it. I pretty much just charge it every morning for a couple of hours and I'm good.

the screen on the hiptop is sturdy as. it would be VERY difficult to break or snap off. I would open and close my hiptop 2's screen up to a hundred time a day for a year and it still snaps open as good as new.

the Slide screen just slides up by the way which is kinda different

No word from Telstra or on Telstra dealernet. I've got the Slide but I really want the LX too. I'll be sure to made some noise if i hear anything. If the unlimited plan suits you, the hiptop is the best thing that ever happened to mobile phones fro young(ish) users. I love mine.

April release at this point.

LX has no advantages over the slide except for a slightly wider screen. (And like all but the Slide it is made by Sharp)

And just on the swivel... I've never seen a broken swivel from my hundreds of broken hiptop customers. When the hiptop (2) launched, the Danger rep demonstrated the strength of the swivel by dropping it upside-down with screen open a few times; still good as new.

The keyboard on the LX is much better.
The screen resolution is much better on the LX (and bigger screen as stated above).
The LX has not had a worldwide faulty batch like the Slide had.
The camera from what I know on the LX is slightly better.
The reception quality on the LX is better with a bigger antenna inside.

hey missy,

ive been into the telstra shop a lot lately as my hiptop 3 was getting repaired, and they somehow managed to lose it somewhere between it getting sent back from the repairers and receiving it back at the store. anyway, so during this time while they were trying to figure out where it had disappeared to, i managed to get out of them currently it seems it will be an april release, although this is very much not a definite thing yet. basically their line of thinking is so far telstra likes to release a hiptop every 6 months, and this is 6 months from the slide. so although no date has been set(that he told me) its looking hopeful. i cant wait to get rid of my 3 for the nicer screen on the lx..but i am also tempted to find something with video capabilities. anyone have thoughts on what to suggest?

meanwhile...
anyone know definitively if a sidekick from the states etc would work here? more specifically, an lx...?

Microsoft just bought out Danger so hopefully this doesn't affect new releases.

I have to agree....the resources consumed by a Windows Mobile Phone is great means poor battery life plus lagginess

No it wouldnt. As answered in every thread about the Hiptop you cannot use a hiptop or sidekick on any other provider than the one it is sold by. It has to work through dangers servers and cn only use the servers if you use it through the provider selling it because of the software on it which cannot be overwritte. It would be like using the hiptop on vodafone or similar. Wont work.

Ok so went to the latest Telstra roadshow thingy, dull as always, but spoke with the Danger Rep and apparently Telstra have said 'no' to the LX as of yesterday. Apparently this is due to the closure of the 2G network in 2010 and 2 year contracts. So all those eagerly awaiting the LX's arrival in Australia should possibly start looking elsewhere.

For me it is now a toss up between the E71 (rumored) and the Slide, I love my hiptop, but the E71 might just put me back on a Nokia.

i have a hiptop 3 they are pretty good it has the trademark swivel screen, qwerty keyboard, internet, msn and yahoo,1.3mpcamera,bluetooth(only works with a handset)supports mp3playback and supports memory card

the sidekick slide is the same features except its made by motorolla it is lighter and thinner and smaller has better screen resolution and has a 2mp camera and has slide instead of swivel these are alot more of a sleeer design it comes in blue and espresso(darkish brown)

the sidekick lx is exactly the same as a hiptop 3 but is again thinner and lighter(it is not a hiptop 4 theres no such thing yet)it comes in more colors

ok im a bit new to the whole hiptop stuff so bear with me haha:

what does that mean for existing hiptop owners? ive recently wanted one and am looking at the hiptop slide, does that mean the contracts will change for the other hiptops?

No, contracts will be the same, it just means that we will not be getting the HiptopLX.
